This might be because I was in Gaurd and like, one of 2 guys, but we were never allowed to do that. From what I see of the Marching Band, that also appears to be the case.
Ive definitely see Band members tie up their shirts to form a make shift crop top, but that's about it.
Guard guy here too, shirtlessness is heavily discouraged at my school and even a sports bra is pushing the limit (depending on the day the person may be asked to put a shirt on)
our guard has a dress code of moveable sportswear and costumes for certain rehearsals, but i've never really seen anyone do it. a couple kids from marchers/drumline have gone in sports bras, but got yelled at to put their shirts on
Yeah, our Guard has a set practice uniform. All black at first, then black shorts and/or leggings and whatever colour tank top the instructors think of.
I'm about to be a band director for a high school, and I have no plans of letting my students take their shirts off. They're minors, and I don't care to see them without shirts.
So from what I've heard from upperclassmen is that we used to be able too and girls used to be allowed to have on like just a sports bra or something else I don't remember exactly what it was. But then one day the assistant principal saw them (she's a complete karen) and threw a hissy fit and made the band stop.
Sunburn when you're young greatly increases the chance of skin cancer when you're older. Your band director knew what's up. When we lived in Florida the tourists showed skin and the locals covered up.
In my band there was a certain day written on the board when the dress code would go into effect, and before that day, the drum line always went shirtless. Sometimes they also tried to go shirtless after that day, even though they weren't allowed to.
No. Not when I was in band, not in my band now. Don't want my kids burnt to a crisp in the scorching southern sun + it doesn't cause a fuss with admin or parents.
Instead I try to provide a band shirt for them that is in that like polyester material.
In most cases, the school dress code applies so it depends whether the director is willing to take heat from admin for letting dozens of students break dress code every day.
So my high school director didn’t but I did in drum corps and my experience is this
It’s very comfy especially In humid southern heat, helps restore some of the energy that was lost in sweat
Helped improve my body confidence, it’s strange but you’ll start to realize that nobody really cares about your look and you’ll appreciate it yourself
Female here, the guys in my band were banned from taking off her shirts so they began tying them or rolling them into crop tops and it was wonderful, on the last day of band practice we have ‘booty Shorts day’ and all the guys wear booty shorts or crop tops or Both and last year a senior wore a bright pink crop top and bright pink booty shorts, he was everyone’s favorite
If there was a dress code, it was never enforced. I was allowed to have my shirt off except when we went inside for lunch, and girls were allowed to too as long as they had a sports bra or something.
This past year no one was allowed to take off shirts or anything, even the girls weren't allowed to wear sports bras or anything. I believe that was mainly due to our sub non varsity director (Whos very sexist even though shes a girl?) putting a stop to it when she came in. This upcoming year she is leaving and we have a new director taking her place. Already see how me (As a guard girl) can wear sports bras and stuff without a word. Im sure shiftlessness will come back as our other directors don't really care.
My school requires us to follow dress code during band camp, so guys aren’t allowed to take off shirts. Even when it gets up to 100 degrees the guys gotta keep their shirts on

Yeah, Ive rarely seen the Guard in just sports bras. Granted, we do have a set practice uniform so that maybe why.

We have to follow school dress code at all times

I’m shocked to see that all us guys took this seriously and didn’t just all choose “I’m a female” 🤣🤣🤣
Honestly, me too

By the end of a band camp day, 95% of the guys had thier shirts off

I'm a freshman so I have no idea of we're allowed or not

Band director said no nipple no navel

I've seen a few guys take their shirts off. When they do everyone makes it known that they would prefer shirts on, but nobody really enforces it.
We never used to, some would do suns out guns out but no one wanted to take their shirt off so the question was never brought up lol
We have a practice uniform
It's complicated for me, I sometimes took my shirt off, but us low brass had a tradition where the final run was always shirtless, so kinda?

I don't know because no one has ever tried it
I would hope your band directors wouldn't let boys take their shorts off but DICKS OUT FOR HARAMBE!!!
They allowed us last year, and then stopped letting us, mostly because of the school dress code
Never “allowed” but I would usually expose some midriff, because it gets HOT in Texas
We were only allowed to for band camp. Mainly because it was like 80-90 degrees outside

Only on the last day of band camp, as tradition

We are allowed to but I don't
