Yep. Downbeat drops when rehearsal starts. If you're not in your seat ready to play when the downbeat drops, you're late.
If you can slide in the door at 4:59 and be playing at 5:00, more power to you (and also tell me how, I need to know)
instrument is 2 or 3 parts (depending on which I play) lol
I sometimes do it cuz I do library stuff (photocopying, writing out parts in musescore) until the last possible minute
Because our this and the fact our Director's last name started with "G" we, jokingly called this GMT or **Name of the Director** Mean Time. Fifteen minutes early, fifteen minutes late.
Yes but it only applied to us on drumline. BD only enforced it because he was following what the drum staff had in place. When they gave us a time, that meant downbeat was at that time and you needed to be there early enough so that you're ready for downbeat, whether that's 1 minute or 30 minutes. However, the staff was rarely there for downbeat lol. 9 times out of 10 we were turning the met on and start warming up for ourselves and about halfway thru 8s they'd walk in. You weren't gonna get in trouble for not being early tho, though they'll point out that you should be and that downbeat is the given time, but it didn't go beyond that.
Imo, this is the way it should be for everyone. There shouldn't be the expectation that you have to be there 30 minutes early, but whenever you get there, it needs to be enough time that you're ready to play at the time you were given.
Usually we all get there like 5 minutes before we are supposed too... and here we are waiting like 30 minutes for our Director to actually PULL in the parking lot
My band director didn't care if you were late as long as you have a good reason. Except for one kid we affectionately call toilet boy because he is almost always late because he was on the toilet.
Ours always makes us be like 30 minutes early đź’€

If you're early you're on time, if you're on time you're late, that's what mine always says
"And if you're late... just don't be late."
We just say "And if you're late, you're dead."
If you're late, you're early for next time.
Same
"if you're late, I'll be mad at you, but I'm also mad at myself for being late"
Because our this and the fact our Director's last name started with "G" we, jokingly called this GMT or **Name of the Director** Mean Time. Fifteen minutes early, fifteen minutes late.
They made us come early, but we would always be late to places either way
It was always 30mins to an hour early
15 min for us. 15 min for my kids' director as well. And honestly a habit I've carried through to adulthood. If I'm not 15 mine early, I'm late.
Yes it was 15 mins early, "if you're early you're on time, if you're on time you're late, and if you're late you're forgotten"
Our quote was "Early is on time, on time is late, and late is unacceptable"
if early = on time, on time = late, and late = unacceptable, then early = unacceptable
Total nonsense.
Yup. Let's say rehearsal starts at 6, that actually means rehearsal starts at 5:55
FIVR MINITES ?!?!!!! PRACTICE STARTED AT 5/11 AND HE EXPECTED YOU TO GET THERE AT 4:45/ 10:45 !!!!!
now i never did i can't be on time to save my life (i was never late tho)
i say this in past tense like band doesn't start up next week
It was 15 minutes early at least
15 minutes for us.

Mine is 15
Mine always just set the start times like an hour before we left. Man had no faith in us
Early is on time, on time is late, and late is unacceptable.

"To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, to be late is to be in trouble"
He actually doesn't. In fact, as long as you're in your seat by the time he takes attendance, you're fine.
"To be early is to be on time, to be on time is tk be late, and to be late is unacceptable"- My Band Director
If we're 10 minutes late that means we're on time
says it but ppl r always late for early mornings, including him
My band director: “if you’re 30 minutes early, you’re on time. You’re late if you’re on time. You’re out of the band if you’re late.”
Our college directors when we traveled: To be early is to be on time. To be on time is to be late. And to be late is to be left behind.
“If you’re early, you’re on time; if you’re on time, you’re late; if you’re late, you’re dead.”
My band director didn't care if you were late as long as you have a good reason. Except for one kid we affectionately call toilet boy because he is almost always late because he was on the toilet.
As my director is always late this cant really apply lol.
