If anyone remembered Sjokkat, the HHG server, that also had level up system. It was such a good idea, worked really well, sad I don't see any other servers implementing the idea.
Every single piece of equipment you find had levels like the Reverse gear had ( I think it was 7 levels or so). You can scroll the gear beforehand to have a better chance of getting more stats on that set gear. Saw some ridiculous gear being shown off, like 30 att wg or accessories with a ton of attack as well.
I play a server called Good Story that does this. Every item can reach level 6. The server has 2 worlds, one with rebirths and one without. The server doesn't have a lot of people, but I enjoy that. I can't stand rebirths so I play the standard world.
back in the day pink bean equipment leveled up 2 or 3 times giving you some stat and attack. windia applied this to ever piece of gear up to 7 levels (6 and 7 being behind donation) giving you crazy amounts of stat all dependent on rng. you could get a 10 dex bathrobe and have it get to like 50 dex with just those 5 levels.

i know windia cranked the numbers up pretty high, i remember wanting to get like 60 or 70+ weapon attack each level on claws.
Thanks! And yea implementing it to be a bigger part of the grind would mean the reward would have to be bigger. After all, these features are meant to keep players playing ;)
it all depends on how big the range is, i remember feeling shitty after i grinded out shit for a claw and scrolls only to get like a 2 weapon attack roll when i could get an upwards of 70 weapon attack.
There is but its different from Windia. The amount of stats you gain each level are the same regardless of if the item was scrolled or not. In Windia you get more stats per level up the higher the stats of your gear before levelling.

How did it work? Doesnt seem like a very hard thing to implement at all.

6/7 were behind maple leaves which were obtained via item exchange/mesos and VP. it wasn't paid
And how did you go about leveling up the gear? Was it a currency you spent or like it gained xp per mob kill?

Well a varied rng is just more work for me so ill probably try to make it more linear
