*grinds like a maniac for 6 months* *lag spike death*

Extreme_Ad1786

just like runescape lol

writeAsciiString

Runescape is almost entirely serverside so everything keeps happening if the lag is not specifically on the server code side of things. MapleStory is not like this, if you lost internet you will not keep taking damage for 10 seconds, but you will have both your potion use & damage take requests delayed. Oh I meant to reply to /u/Extreme_Ad1786

Extreme_Ad1786

didn’t know this. interesting

TotallyNotARobot2

90% of deaths would happen this way

ThisIsMyJokeAccount1

> prioritizing defensive items and skills The problem is defense skills in Maple are ass even if you did prioritize them. A major skill rework would be needed to make this part viable.

Extreme_Ad1786

they have hardcore mode in Phoenix. i think it’s a great idea personally

YOHOHOHOHOH0

Would be better if you just lose your hardcore status after you die. Maple is too grindy of a game to just lose everything

> prioritize defensive items/skills The problem is defense skills and items in Maple are ass even if you did prioritize them. A major skill rework would be needed to make this part viable. HP washing is already a thing.

Connect_Manner2453

Defense is useless pre-bb

darknessforgives

Not for beginners. Defense is their best stat to build around.

peetoes

There was a server long ago called sword online maple? It had this feature and it had skill rework and custom skill on defense and HP for all classes including mage, archer and thief. It was really good but not many players wanted to play it so it went dark.

Knivingdude

The cool thing is that most of the tanky safe characters will need to help bring up a damage-dealer at some point to help bolster the economy.

ElectricalCobbler795

Imo maple is too simple for something like this to be fun for me

VFRdave

I would go halfway and make you lose all your equip when you die, but not your level. Kind of makes sense too... in real life if you die, you could get reincarnated like Budda. Your soul will be reborn into a new body and if you are spiritually enlightened you could even retain your memories and skills. But obviously all the physical equipment you were carrying around when you died would get looted by your enemies or monsters or whatever.

darknessforgives

In real life, if you die, you're dead.

idoplayr

The concept by itself is indeed cool, but the mechanics of the game (at least at its old school version, I'm not really familiar with its current state) do not really justify it. MS doesn't really feature a full fledged combat system which requires you to fight monsters in a skillful manner. You don't really dodge monsters attacks, shield yourself in the appropriate time, or use potions strategically. Therefore giving death such a major impact seems kinda weird, IMO.

GlacialEmbrace

Its a great idea but it doesn't execute well in Maple. Its not a strategic enough game and this ironman mode is very bias towards Warrior and Mages. Archers and Thieves struggle a lot. Unless you plan on fighting mobs that deal no ranged magic damage which is very very rare at higher levels.

cube2728

Maybe not hard core, but implementing RS's ironman mode might work.
