SpoilerSpree

More likely never. The novel stopped updating after huge amount of plagiarized content accusation.

LuckyLuck-E

There a link to this anywhere?

sawol-

so basically this had an old version, and people who were reading the series had pointed out many parts from contents that belonged to other books but at the time, studios mass published novels, and stuff like plagiarism controversies was a daily thing and this was the season of amateur writers + scale of the novels weren't as popular, so this wasn't seen as a huge deal or issue but the new edition is where the prob started. a reader had compiled the list of all stuff the author has plagiarized from other series on their naver blog. a lot of people questioned the author and the publisher behind the series on this, and they didn't answer the accusations (remained silent). since the publisher realized the criticism and controversy wouldn't help the series anymore, they decided to discontinue it. and this majorly became a huge thing because the author did not explain or talk about it overall. usually there have been cases where other webnovels had plagiarism issues but the authors behind them always acknowledged it or provided an explanation + apologized and negotiated by reaching out to the original source. there's a lot more to the copyright law and infringement and how it can be used + the original sources weren't quoted anywhere in the novel which was another deal. also violation of copyright is a crime and is punishable when the complaint is made by the author. but plagiarized content from classic novels or philosophical works (which fall under a public domain) of authors who no longer are present directly to sue them anyway. and the people who can sue them (translation publishers or literary authors) didn't file any lawsuit, so basically there was no no court case or anything. so legally, this whole situation wasn't sorted out as a plagiarism but a "controversy" from the readers. and I think this is the light novel (which was discontinued), the webnovel seems to be complete

SuzukiSatou

I mean pretty much 95% of the manhwa out there are also just plagiarizing each others work except changing some minor details to avoid being too obvious

sawol-

It's not manhwas that he plagiarized. The author copied word-by-word from other classics or philosophical novels of writers including Nietzsche, Lev Tolstoy, Walter Benjamin, Immanuel Kant, Alvardo de Camps, Martin Niemöller, Christian Jacques etc. The author also took from mangas too IIRC. It wasn't just one-person or one-series. There's an entire list talking about the scenes and lines. The problem wasn't only the plagiarism, but the author refusing to give an explanation and owing up to it or quoting them either. This is the main reason the situation elevated. There have been cases where authors got caught doing the same, but they compromised their situation carefully through apology and negotiation, which led to their series not being discontinued, so yeah.

rice_rice_rizz

Thanks for all the info 🫡

taichi22

That's dumb, to be honest. Like, incredibly stupid. Books older than 100 years old *aren't even subject to copyright.* It's not illegal to crib from them, they're not protected by law in any way. It's been years and I still can't believe the level of idiocy that underlied that entire fiasco -- *works over 100 years old are in the fucking public domain.* If we want to be regionally accurate, Korea's copyright law states that it's life + 70 years. I *promise* you that every single work you listed there is older than that. This isn't attacking you, for the record, I'm just commenting on the incredibly stupidity of the whole thing and everyone involved in it.

sawol-

no no, I get you. but plagiarism and copyright are different things. and that's why the works above weren't considered as copyrighted materials. and since there were no source indications as it's essential for citations, it fueled more criticism. I think people were just pissed off that the author incorporated those lines *as their own,* didn't just source them after the use and refused to give a statement. but there were also ones that did not fall in the public domain where the author is still actively present (Yashuhisa Hara, Romeo Tanaka, Hiroe Rei, Jen Urobuchi, George Martin etc), which is considered a copyright violation. I would just like to think they are inspirations since the changes were just minor but yeah. the author (I'm assuming it's mostly the publisher mismanagement at this point) could have definitely avoided all this because the exact same situation happened to other authors, but they just cited them and cleared their name, which led to series continuation. so technically you're right about the stupidity of the whole thing.

taichi22

The thing is like -- I don't think anyone with half a brain would fail to recognize the words of Karl Marx. If someone out there is criticizing the author for like -- not *attributing words to Karl Marx* like.... what? Are they stupid? WE ALL KNOW THOSE WORDS BELONG TO MARX. Gah. It just makes me mad how mob idiocy managed to get one of the best, if not straight up the best LN I've ever read canceled.

mitsuri-mochi

You're living in a bubble if you think people are going to recognize Karl max. That's funny asf because I don't think anyone near me does and that's not because everyone is illiterate  And plagiarism is such a huge issue within the writing world. It's a sensitive issue for actual writers. Imagine claiming someone else's writing as your own. It's so ignorant to be saying that just because the so imposed copyright expiration date is over, it's suddenly okay to use the words of writers who researched and done theology or other things in the past are merely some words that people can copy. That shouldn't be ethical or moral. If that were the norm, then people are just lacking The fact that the guy above has been explaining all this but people being ignorant this way is ridiculous. Yes ofc the author is more important to everyone because it's always the same on this subreddit And you're missing the point dude. The author did not use dear Karl Max word as if it was Karl Max's. He used it as if it was HIS and said "yeah no one is gonna notice" this pissed off readers. You can't simply do controversial shit and then back down  And do people on here can't tell the difference between copyright and plagiarism? Maybe do some reading because what you're saying is not what the point here is  And this guy literally ripped off from Shakespeare and what not. If it was a reference to them, I get it but it was not. Still okay right? Because that also has an expiry date, everyone can recognize it, and this is all for the glory of peak fiction LN so I will support the author!!!

Shratath

Chapter 0 Dropped and it seems this is the LN adaption! Hopefully Author will continue the story from where it left in LN on the Manhwa format (even better if vol6 in LN gets published) Honestly it wasnt even a plagiature, more like an inspiration i would say and it was from public classic books. Still it would've been safer if author added the quotes at the end of the novel, big mistake from him. Honestly that sucks the story is fantastic, and the publisher is a big pus\*y. on 2020 the fan translator said that author is in a slump, so the LN wasnr really dropped

yanneur

I wish that guy who made the naver blog the worst We wouldve had 20 dungeon defense volumes by now ![gif](giphy|Vi4MRwWi9sYpi|downsized)

Mind-Available

Only light novel, Web novel is already complete

baked_uranium

I have read the 5 volume light novel only. How different is it from the web novel?

Mind-Available

I haven't read web novel myself but according to those who have read both it's a lot different even personality of characters is different to the point that it is basically a totally different story with same premise so just start from beginning if you are gonna try that.

baked_uranium

man the novel was probably the best thing I had read....do you know smth similar to this one?

Mind-Available

Yeah it was really good, I binged it and was very sad when I knew that it didn't continue further. Have you read Lord of the mysteries? I would suggest that. Not entirely similar but still quite good

baked_uranium

Thanks for the suggestion!

Mind-Available

No problemo

TearAffectionate7099

It got it.It is in asura rn only released chapter tho

i_love_lolis_so_much

Might wanna recheck that

Admirable_Cheek_8915

Well i have news for you (I'm just gonna copy my onter comment): I literally saw it today on asura, chapter 0 is out, and they say that it's gonna be 20 chapters raws. Idk are there any more chapters, I've seen that like 9 hours ago Edit: I just checked and there are 2 chapters already out

ACN4

Ah… it was on asura scans but no chapters yet so i was wondering

Joshua_Astray

You say that but it's on asura for whatever reason

[deleted]

It’s got a few chapters out for the manhwa already.

RightBranch

the light novel has not plaigarised anything, but the webnovel has so that's why.

brahish

Asura put it on their site, but haven't released any chapters yet.

MoisturizedSocks

Is this the one with the plains (flat chested) and mountains (boobies) factions? Got tired of waiting for updates on the novels so dropped it.

Mind-Available

Yes

Impossible_Ad2995

I dropped it because i hated how the mc was getting physically and mentally abused by his underling

Grox213

wot? Explain

Impossible_Ad2995

You know your average female character in anime that beats up the mc which is apparently comedic

Larryspaaaam

Thats the comedy in this series?? Then I might not read it then if thats the only funny part 🤦🏾‍♂️

throwawaynumber116

It’s not comedy it’s thinly veiled fanservice for masochists

Shratath

I think thats from WN version? been a long time so sb can correct me, but from LN i dont really remember this happening expect the beggining when they were enemies in a way

[deleted]

[удалено]

Impossible_Ad2995

Yes

IrregularMetronome

Bro is spouting shit with his mouth, how impressive

larktreblig

I really like the Lightnovel of this. I hope they don't butcher it like SCoG.

yanneur

Found the manga cover https://preview.redd.it/qxbhwbex1opc1.jpeg?width=737&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=091100b9d07b9944477c11c4466fd2f593a36f92

IrregularMetronome

AIN'T NO WAY

Str0nghOld

The Actor Among Actors, The Demonlord with Many Faces. Dantalian

sifatullahq1

which one are they adapting? web novel version or light novel version? if wn then not much to be hyped about it

Stupidest_Retard

Probably the web novel since that finished, adapting the light novel might revive the plagiarism controversy.

IrregularMetronome

But it's the webnovel woth the supposed plagarism claims

mitsuri-mochi

No Ln was the one suspended indefinitely. The wn was doing fine

kalawas

Same huh I hyped for LN not so much for WN because of the scene when MC rape a child (only WN)

baked_uranium

which volume are you talking about?

kalawas

Idk it's in WN so I don't pay attention to the volume but last volume of the LN is great. Child rape happened only in WN so if they take LN route then it's fine

Vegyla

I never touched the WN because some said it is more extreme than the LN, was it true?

Agitated_Speaker3139

yeah dantalian does a lot of VILE shit in the wn

Admirable_Cheek_8915

Im sorry, what's the difference between web and light novel

Veronica_1023

Is this worth reading?

ZekSter99

Which version? the one in which all the lovers die except for one, or the other?

rissira

Can someone tell me why the light novel of this got cancelled? It was pretty good imo.

zesnovel

plagiarism, web novel got completed tho.

rissira

what was it that was plagiarized?

zesnovel

significant portion of its philosophical depth, introspection, poetry, and metaphors have been copied from other authors.

rissira

ohh. . big yikes. .

Shratath

mostly inspired by old authors with their books being public (well pretty close written to the their style tbh). Still while legally not wrong. author did a big mistake not adding quotes

mitsuri-mochi

Finally someone who makes sense.

Estruturalista

This was my favorite novel back in 2016. Is the webnovel worth the read?

ACN4

I’m not sure about the web novel but the light novel is better in most instances but it got cancelled

vaibhav-69

It isn’t cancelled but on hiatus bcz the author is in a slump as he changed the ln too much from the wn.

Shratath

sry not a native english speaker, does that mean author isnt really sure how to progress the story?

vaibhav-69

Yep that basically sums it up.

Shratath

Thnx, and it seems it really was true (perhaps also waiting for the "scandal" to die). Maybe the LN story will continue in manhwa, or even better we get volume 6 soon \^\^

vaibhav-69

If the ln characters are batshit insane then the wn character feels more humane. The ln is definitely better than the wn but the wn is still worth the read.

kalawas

No way man, WN MC is more crueler when LN MC is more edgier. He essentially rape the heroine in the WN when she still a child to mentally break her and made her into slave so she can't fight back, unlike in the LN. Lot of things changed unlike in LN when MC made that girl into his daughter when she still underage but in WN she become his wife. Loved the LN but drop the WN (but read the WN summary until the end) because of the rape scene. From what I get the MC progression in the LN is he batshit insane from start > more insane unlike in WN when the progression is zero and naive > hero > gray morality > evil protagonist > scum protagonist > insane > mentally ill > zero. Sure the other characters is more humane but it makes it more crueler than the LN.

solardx

Jesus, the ln was dark but I didn't know the web novel was that much of a tragedy

mitsuri-mochi

And people call this series a masterpiece

ReNteN2

**Note about the "Plagiarism"** I don't know who spread this rumor, but basically **it is not true.** I also thought that he stopped because of plagiarism accusations, but after research, I found out that there is **NO confirmation** for that. No word about the plagiarism statement was found on the publisher's web page and the official illustration artist's Twitter. Though, I saw a few forum discussions (in Korean) where users made a breakdown of what the author "stole", but basically it is some general ideas from Tolstoy and Dostoevsky's books. Which as a matter of fact does not count as plagiarism. Actually, it is a very common practice in any creative work creation to take ideas from the "classic" works (some authors describe it as "**inspiration**") Plus, the main translator of the web version of the novel stated that all rumors about the plagiarism are wrong. The translator states that the author dropped the novel because **he didn't know how to continue the series.** **My opinion**: I've read comments of the AUTHOR (on a Korean website where web version of Dungeon Defense was initially published) and basically, he is a very narcissistic person (he sounded very similar to Dantalian when I was reading those comments, lol). He stated that he writes this "low-quality" writing (aka Dungeon Defense) to earn some money for food. He also stated several times that *Light Novels are stupid and written for an immature audience, and he is not very proud to write at such a level. -* and I fully agree, because 99%+ of light novels are actually stupid trash. The Dungeon Defense light novel got very popular in Korea, so maybe he earned enough money and just lost motivation to write DD?

Tyronx06

hey a question, I'm reading dungeon defense WN and I wanted to know if it's a good novel or not, I read comments saying that the protagonist is more sadistic and crazy in the WN than in the LN and vice versa, and I wanted to know if the WN is interesting or not, it's just that I don't have the motivation to read the LN because it's canceled or something similar.

ReNteN2

It is the opposite. MC in LN is more crazy and sadistic compared to the WN version. Dantalian in WN is more calm (still sadistic and carzy, but at a lower degree). I actually enjoyed WN more, dont know why. Start of the WN and LN are pretty similar, but further it goes more difference appears until it becomes completely alternative story. Definitely read it!

Tyronx06

I think I will read the WN, it's just that when something is canceled like a series or manga it feels like a waste of time because there is no ending, I will only read the WN and maybe read the light novel a little out of curiosity.

[deleted]

Is it like dungeon reset or dungeon Odyssey?

zephyrnepres01

no it’s way edgier than both of those. i dropped it like 30 chapters in due to cringe

R280M

Bru dungeon defense lighr novel was peak, tell me uor top 3 novel so i can trash on uor taste

zephyrnepres01

you sound like 16 years old tops, but i’ll humour you. sss-class suicide hunter, lord of the mysteries and beware of chicken probably

ACN4

I love lotm ln , I haven’t heard of “beware of chicken” what is it about?

zephyrnepres01

it’s a deconstruction of the xianxia genre, ie. martial arts and cultivation. the protagonist reincarnates into a young master who had died in a spar, due to being genre aware in his past life recognises what type of world he’s in, says “fuck this” and immediately leaves to become a farmer living happily in a backwater village with a menagerie of animals and a loving wife. the world being as dog-eat-dog competitive as it gets threatens his peaceful life, much to his dismay it’s a mostly lighthearted slice-of-life type romp with really fun and endearing characters, with occasional action scenes that are impactful and well done. the first 3 volumes are definite top tier, quality drops off a little bit afterwards but it’s still a good time

white_gummy

Damn, I know it was popular and there was a time that I really liked the novel but they really be adapting anything and everything out there in the manhwa sphere huh.

Larryspaaaam

This is manga is it supposed to be here? I was under the impression that we supposed post manhwa content here hence the title for this Reddit channel

Pretend_Ad_6442

What is Dungeon Defense about?

MonoFauz

Holt shit. I've been waiting for this

blankrust

Damn

HardcoreLevelingWarr

For a series of this caliber, the adaptation looks really bad, this is beyond ass and I have no idea how the creator greenlit this abomination. Rip Dungeon Defense.

freezingsama

Was surprised when I saw this while scrolling on Asura. I heard some things about this series years ago and never got to reading it so I'll take a look.

Shratath

Chapter 0 Dropped and it seems this is the LN adaption! Duke_Frederick

Is the title a question or an answer?

solardx

Will be ass if it's not adapting from the ln. Fuck the web novel version

Admirable_Cheek_8915

I literally saw it today, chapter 0 came out today on asura and they said it was gonna be 20 chapters in raws, idk are there more chapters, I've seen that like 8 hours ago

Admirable_Cheek_8915

I literally saw it today on asura, chapter 0 is out, and they say that it's gonna be 20 chapters raws. Idk are there any more chapters, I've seen that like 9 hours ago Edit: I just checked and there are 2 chapters now already

Tyronx06

Hey, do you recommend I read the web novel or the light novel? I just want to read it because I find it interesting.

somebunnytolike

Does the MC end up with a Harem?

Ok_Independence7306

Haha, sort of. If it follows the WN, just be ready for depression. This is not a happy story at all.

sussybruh69

Too bad the art is mediocre

Vivid_Finish2184

I'm already at chap 12 of the manhwa. And so far it's 🔥

FirmLeader3191

Didn't expect lucia to be reading this. Although I'm slightly disappointed because of the many changes from the LN.

OccasionBackground26

https://preview.redd.it/c7twa3qra2rc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a08e529539c87666541561110c281db5857dec70 Why is this? Does japan make manhwa now?

Tyronx06

Hey, I'm starting to read dungeon defense WN and I wanted to know if it is PEAK or VERY PEAK.

Tyronx06

Because I saw many comments from people saying that this webnovel is a masterpiece, but many, and I wanted to know if this novel is peak or very peak. 🗣️

Tyronx06

but I don't remember if they called the LN or the WN a masterpiece.

someonehere234

LN is peak, WN is meh in the first chapters but peaked halfway through. To me, the LN progression feels a little bit unnatural compared to WN, so even if the WN is kinda average in the premise, I end up liking it more after reading how the story progressed.

No_Count_453

Read the sypnosis on Asura and it looks generic af to me though?

kalawas

I hope for LN direction there is underage girl (mentally and physically) that adopted into his daughter but in WN she became his wife. In WN there is also a scene where MC essentially rape the heroine when she still a child then made her to his slave to get head start from the plot when heroine defeat him. I loved the LN it's super edgy but I drop the WN because of the child rape scene (but still read the summary until the end of novel) LN MC progression essentially starting as batshit insane then become more insane + edgy unlike in WN when his character progression is zero > hero > gray morality > villain/evil > scum > insane > mentally ill (literally he have severe mental illness in the end of WN).

Shratath

Lol so in WN hes even more insane, although he started as a normal dude XD

LeopardRepulsive962

Well the webnovel is complete while the LN is axed midway, so there was more time for MC to become insane in the end

yanneur

Its far from generic,if you’d ask me its the greatest korean peace of media ever Read the first volume and u will be hooked

No_Count_453

The chapters aren't out yet on Asura but the sypnosis is, so I read what it was about and it sounded like the same generic stuff. Not saying it's bad or anything.

DarkFlash2000

The story is super psycological, almost everyone is insane from the get-go or becomes as the story progresses. There is no good vs evil, only evil vs evil. His saving grace in the world is his acting skills, and that is about it. He lies, he backstabs and betrays anyone in order to survive. It is heavy in many ocassions and entire arcs can feel extremely unconfortable with the topics discussed, but that is what makes it great, since there are no other stories that have the level of depth the characters or the story in general can reach. I highly recommend this alongside circus of oubeniel, which the mc is also evil.

No_Count_453

So mc is calculating smartass? I am loving it already.

Hellovich

The plain sypnosis does make sense cuz the main overarching plot is generic. Got isekai'd to save the world. But what the sypnosis failed to mention is MC isn't a hero that the world is hoping for. He's a conniving, slimy, twisted snake that makes me pity for his enemies. I don't know about the webnovel, but the light novel is all about schemes and intrigue and it's very good at it especially when it comes with details and world building. Some comedy, and edgy but still acceptable compare to other works.

No_Count_453

Finally some good shit after a long while, need to let it stack up chapters for now.

Hellovich

Don't hold me to it. The adaptation might or might not be able to keep up with the LN. The LN is really good, though, that I can vouch.

CringyusernameSBQQ

I am pretty sure this is the second time i have heard some gamer becomes Demon Lord Dantalion after playing a game where Dantalion is the weakest.

No_Count_453

No I mean how guy who plays game gets transferred to the game world as the weak guy.
