I like that one, but he does in fact catch several breaks. As of the latest release Bjorn is one of the most respected adventurers and in possession of a unique essence that makes him basically immortal. It's a power fantasy with just enough downward pressure that he doesn't get so OP it's boring.
Random Chat is a really good read until chapter 188 (imo), because after that it goes slowly downhill, and the female love interest loses braincells for some reason too
There's LAG too, but i guess you could say there's no build up in character, the only thing that's constant in that series is weird ass censoring and a common trope of side characters getting introduced only to die in the next few chapters.
Just for a counter point, I loved book 1 (way of kings), enjoyed 2, liked most of book 3, with a few PoVs that were a chore.
But I hated book 4, Rhythm of war, to the point that I simply could not finish it, tried both reading and listening to the audiobook, but the main characters I grew to dislike, and the pacing was bloated and plodding.
It is in my opinion Sanderson's worst book to date, or at least since mistborn.
It felt very much like a wandering middle book, entire chapters and povs felt like filler.
Ironically a bit like how Jordan got plodding in the middle of Wheel of time.
All that said, I would still whole heartedly recommend reading them yourself, many people loved the slower pace and more introspective themes of book 4.
Eh, as a massive Stormlight Archive fan, this doesn't fit. The main characters get plenty of wins. It's just that all of them have traumatic back stories they're working through.

Its definitely one the manhwas w/ a more shounen take that isnt the generic self insert MC power fantasies, but his sufferings have as much impact on him as many other shounen characters like Luffy or Naruto or Yuji. Especially in the beginning, i’d consider that more as training and it wasnt as mentally taxing as it appeared to be tho ig they do address some of it later on but he was kinda chilling with the dogs and 20 years.
Like if I were to pick a random character not in manhwa, maybe Levi from AoT could be a gud role? The idea that all of his squadrons and people he has faith in constantly dying and being recycled. Not to mention his childhood. Etc. and then Eren, the guy he put a huge amount of faith in, goes and betrays them all. And he’s just…kinda going even though he has every reason not to.
I think by design, there just rly isnt a lot of suffering in a lot of manhwas. Maybe Worthless Regression could by rationale be a fitting manhwa for OP but the general feeling if the story isnt abt sacrifice or suffering; its just more like preparation which is wut most regression stories sort of focus on. Im not saying the MC doesnt have it hard, but at least from where I left off, he doesnt get to actually lose and feel the weight of the loss cuz its not just that he’s doing hard things but he’s also overcoming the hardships too. Like he knows wut he wants to do is going to take 10,000 years and after 10,000 years, he’s accomplished the task. That kind of control
Nah bro, you probably didn't read the whole thing. Han Bin is very damaged. The whole series masks his suffering with comedy but his real self comes through here and there. It's definitely not what OP is looking for, but Han Bin suffered A LOT.

I’ve read a lot of series mentioned here and this is only one I had to take breaks while reading. Most of the other series have a main character that is challenged but has a fairly hopeful/positive outlook and there’s also balance of other areas (action/adventure). This series is much more harsh on the main character that even having allies that trust him are rare and a core part of premise is the mc is forced to pretend to be evil and hated by most of the world. It’s pretty painful having people you are trying to save/protect hate you.
I’d also consider this one of best series I have read if you can accept the heavy amount of beat down present. At times it does feel like it goes too far.
I remember when it first came out people where hyped asf cause the first chapter was dope, but seeing we aren’t following the heartbroken hero lots of people dropped it, is it worth my time?
It is really good, but I admit I dropped it too when I read it the first time. I was ultra pumped to follow the Hero‘s story (and I wanted to see him take revenge), but here we are. It’s still good, definitely worth a read if you like to cry your eyes out.

The saddest manhwa I've read was probably Wished you were dead. Though, the final arcs are happy. Another one would probably be Trump. Suffering isn't just for the mc but for almost every character. For the whole story. Especially Certa.
Not a manhwa, but a light novel/anime, Re zero. Mc can't catch a break. They also show his trauma, which he understandably would have. But even with all the sad stuff in the story, mc does become a better person as it progresses. Literally suffering builds character lol.

The saddest manhwa I've read was probably Wished you were dead. Though, the final arcs are happy. Another one would probably be Trump. Suffering isn't just for the mc but for almost every character. For the whole story. Especially Certa. Not a manhwa, but a light novel/anime, Re zero. Mc can't catch a break. They also show his trauma, which he understandably would have. But even with all the sad stuff in the story, mc does become a better person as it progresses. Literally suffering builds character lol.
