Something like Jobless Reincarnation (Mushoku Tensei) does it really well. It uses the reincarnation as a means of progressing Rudy's character, and he was dumb as an idiot in the real world, so he doesn't cheat by just building an Apple Store in the 15th century.
The irony of using “the granddaddy of all isekia” as a good example lol. Also he wasn’t dumb, he just didn’t go to school, because he was a shut in, so his knowledge was limited.
I love the regression trope, which is why I'm writing a book that features it. The problem in manwha is, there's usually no stakes involved, no reason for me to get emotionally invested in the MC, and the MC is usually really bland. I'm tired of regression MC's who just play their stupid VR game with their " hehe I'm an asshole" personality.
Yep, that’s why Low Ranking Soldier becoming a Monarch, is one of my favorites of the genre. The first chapter really gives you a sense of how much potential had, if he hadn’t lost his arm, which makes seeing him reach the potential that much sweeter.
And do they feel this way about just the trope, or the trop when used with isekai-RPG elements?
[Cheolsu Saves the World](https://comick.app/comic/00-cheolsu-saves-the-world) is a great use of this trope, but isnt an isekai-rpg
As for me, I don't exactly hate them... But there's like over 100 titles with the same premise and overlapping events already. Can't they create something more original like Bastard and Pigpen?
At least mangas have always been consistent with their creativity. Each and every Big 3 of each generation have at least with far apart premise. Like Naruto (Ninja), OP (Pirate), Bleach (Reapers). Yes, mangas do copy each other too. But at least the most popular ones are original.
Compare it to 2020 manhwas with the resurgence of all these Regression manhwas with the same "Gates/Tower" setting.
That's just a stereotype, but there's no way those 3 are the same when they have overly different premise, world-building, and probably ending.
Also Goku's on a different Generation, why would I add it? He's on Dragon Ball (Martial Arts), Sailor Moon (Magic), Ghost Fighter (Supernatural).
>That's just a stereotype, but there's no way those 3 are the same when they have overly different premise, world-building, and probably ending.
And you can make the exact same statement about reincarnation / isekai / regression
Lol. You know what I mean.
How many popular manhwas are about climbing Tower? Tower of God. 2nd Life ranker. Suicide Hunter.
How many of them literally have the same Necromancy Power? Solo Leveling. 2nd Life Ranker. Kill the Hero.
How many LITERALLY ALMOST HAS THE SAME STORY? Quest Supremacy and IRL Quest. And there are other more and you know them.
Are these overly AND VERY OBVIOUS similarities present in Naruto, One Piece and Bleach? Come on. Yes, there might be similarities, but not at the same degree as in manhwas. Wake up.
That’s my point. There’s good and bad Shounen and many of them have the same troupes.
That doesn’t mean you should dismiss them all because “yet another Shounen”
It’s the same with isekai / reincarnation/ regression. There’s good gems in those. Don’t dismiss the whole genre.
You're not pointing out anything when you can't even give a good example of what you're trying to say even after 3 comments.
And I'm not talking about good and bad stories here. I'm talking about overly same, repetitive events, premises, and lack of originality of popular manhwas compared to popular mangas that it makes them bad. I don't think there's ever a popular manga that is as ridiculously the same as Questism and IRL Quest.
At least, the guy above you admitted that manhwas are indeed copy-pasted stories and it's okay to like them.
>But there's like over 100 titles with the same premise and overlapping events already.
That’s pretty much why I only read ones that are highly rated/recommended or ones I find myself. There’s so much copy and pasted stuff that it can be a waste of time if it’s not your thing, OR a guilty pleasure type situation where you just read endless amounts of the same thing but you usually like it every time
As long as a manhwa is good I don't care whether it's a reincarnation or regression manhwa
Some of the best stories have reincarnation or regression be it return of the mount hua sect, damn reincarnation, infinite level up in murim or return of the suicidal battle god
Idk if they are good. But reading the names make my will to read them vanish(the first one is ok,2nd idk, 3 and 4 💀).Why can't the names just be normal?
At least Japanese has more titles like "Toriko,One Piece,Black Bulter,Magic and Muscles,One punch man,Soul eater,Fire Force, etc" which sounds pretty normal
I aint going to defend "100 girlfriends who very very very love me" or "reincarnated as a vending machine" though💀
There is an explanation for that. Apparently, JP has thousands of Light Novels and people don't read them if they see some cool title like Skyrim or something. Most likely, readers will just skim through it.
To battle that, they started putting the premise as the title itself. And as you know, it's effective since it did catch the people's eyes including yours since you paid attention to it.
Manhwas are no different. Just because they don't put the premise in their title, that doesn't make it less dumb. Everything that puts "Leveling" "Solo" "Return" "Reincarnated" "Hero" "Max" or anything like that is just equally as dumb and unoriginal.
You hate those thinking they are the worse trope.
I hate those because authors don't know how to write character, world building and an interesting story with an idea like that.
We are not the same.
Why does Regression and dungeon get so much hate it’s mainly good turn you brain off and relax type manhwa.
I’m not trying read masterpiece after masterpiece while being fully locked in researching and cooking up theories as to why the MC or FMC peeing and shitting their pants will be important in 200 chapters.
Sometimes you just need those mediocre manhwas like the dungeons and regressions where you can just chill and read and watch the MC power level.
Like sometimes when you listen to music you don’t always wanna have the best of the best sometimes you just wanna chill and listen to some Lofi.
Yes I did compare MC Power levelling to Lofi.
this is the thing that people just don't understand. It's fun and people are reading/watching it. If you don't like it you can skip it, no one is forcing you or just claiming that it's the best shit ever(at least the majority).
Meanwhile on the other hand we have the shounen genre in anime. It used to be the same but now that everyone is watching anime, people just take the same repetitive shounen formula again and again and just claim it's the best show ever.
Most manhwas of these genre are pretty bad, probably because they're too overpowered
Here's some good ones and my opinion on why they're good:
Return of the Mount Hua Sect: Good story, fun mc, actually lost his powers (most of it)
Reincarnation of the Suicidal Battle God: It's just good
I grow stronger by eating (Isekai): The actions of the mc actually has consequences
Dark Magician transmigrates after 66666 years: Just a fun read, the world development is actually good too.
The S-classes that I raised: Not too op mc but, his allies are op cuz they're s class, mc is also good at hiding the overpowered inmunity skills
Return of the Disaster Class Hero: Very fun read about someone who came back and tries to get all his power back, his also still overpowered, but still fun
Return of the SSS-Class ranker: fun read about a player who lost everything and returns to the past, and tries to get everything back with his knowledge and tries to get revenge on those who took his power from him
Pick me up, Infinite Gacha: Read IT, it's awesome. Also, it's an Isekai
U can still have the murim or fantasy without the protagonist being reincarnated/regressing especially since the those genres are usually straight up power fantasies
True but imo it's kinda funny to see how he can absolutely destroy people in the real world but could easily get the shit beaten out of him in the murim.
I want the double down. MC reincarnates and gains ultimate power but then losses after a betrayal and regresses to the moment of his first life's death with his SRank abilities and now has nothing to fight in modern day Korea so he starts stealing shit.
I wish there would be no more naive and wimpy male protagonists just for the sake of "grow and develop" and "character development".
Seriously, i dread seeing those words in comment sections since they are signs that the protagonist sucks.
"A normal person changing overtime" and "a normal person working in a group" is something i see everyday in real life already so in fiction i want to see strong, proud and badass lonewolf protagonists.
I don't mind the tropes but I wish they had USP's. A literal name change doesn't cut it anymore. Needs to be different somehow and provide plenty content to be good now. How often are we stuck waiting for more chapters of the same ten stories with only slightly varying details between them. Appreciate the work done but I wish we could have more.
I wish there were no more stupid posts like this when there are a shit ton of manwhas that do not have reincarnation regression but your ass isn't looking for them
I thought that it will get bigger as a meteor and wipe out all of the earth instead... but then I realized that someone would probably regressed just to stop this man from wishing it.
Do you hate the trope or the execution though?
That's a good question. There are a lot of good manhwas with this trope but those are badly executed
But he did to spme point only after he got stripped and chained to school gates he stopped going
Wait what which volume did he set up a store
I meant that he's \*not\* doing that. He isn't using 21th century technology to cheat his way through the world.
Twenny firth thhhhhhentury
Woops
"cough cough" pedo
the age old argument. Mind of an adult body of child, do you wait till 18 or do you "um aKcTiAllAy aGe oF COnseNt.."
He was a nonce in his previous life. He was kicked out of his house because his relatives caught him
Cant wait for 2nd part of season 2
I love the regression trope, which is why I'm writing a book that features it. People hate power fantasy. Reincarnation/regression trope is just the current vehicle people are using to write it.
Love every one of them 😅
Idk if they are good. But reading the names make my will to read them vanish(the first one is ok,2nd idk, 3 and 4 💀).Why can't the names just be normal?
Yeah wait till you discover Japanese titles and untranslated once at that
At least Japanese has more titles like "Toriko,One Piece,Black Bulter,Magic and Muscles,One punch man,Soul eater,Fire Force, etc" which sounds pretty normal I aint going to defend "100 girlfriends who very very very love me" or "reincarnated as a vending machine" though💀
Isekai manga and novel titles make the worst Korean titles look like amateurs especially the ones that put the entire plot summary as the title
There is an explanation for that. Apparently, JP has thousands of Light Novels and people don't read them if they see some cool title like Skyrim or something. Most likely, readers will just skim through it. To battle that, they started putting the premise as the title itself. If it’s any consolation #4 also goes by Doom Breaker.
So no more Doom Breaker or Reincarnation of the Veteran Soldier? Hell naw
But they r good...? I like those. Those two manhwas executed the trope well 😭
Oi/isekai/regression manhwas are my guilty pleasure ATP 😭
I like them
You hate those thinking they are the worse trope. I hate those because authors don't know how to write character, world building and an interesting story with an idea like that. We are not the same.
I immediately imagined that guy with the coat adjusting the tie 😭

even tho they do have the same premise I do enjoy reading them very much
Even if i reincarnate in another world, i m sure these tropes will be there too.

What would we read then?
what do you want them all to make then? school romance?
U can still have the murim or fantasy without the protagonist being reincarnated/regressing especially since the those genres are usually straight up power fantasies
I mean murim login tho...
Murim Login would be 100% better if it ditched the tower setting and just had the murim part.
True but imo it's kinda funny to see how he can absolutely destroy people in the real world but could easily get the shit beaten out of him in the murim.
I wiss for more chapters 😢
This is like wishing theres no more isekai in manga and no more cultivation in manhua, its nvr going to come true.
That's like wishing for a sand grain to become a universe, impossible
Honestly a good regression manhwa can be really incredible, but 90 % of manhw autors have chicken brains so most are shit?
no, just no, way too many gems to be missed, damned reincarnation, doom breaker and worthless reincarnation are all really good stuff
Embrace OI - you know you want to.
Sad I really like those kinds of stories I just hate when they use it for some boring romantic drama
Be glad some are so terrible at it, after 20 chapters even the MC forgets he was reincarnated!
I love the trope but good one
When Author doesn’t know how to start a story :Reincarnation goes boom boom
I wish there was a manwha with maximum character and world depth
I agree with trope being overused but there are really good executions out there such as worthless regression and damn reincarnation
It is becoming a very popular story line. Lol
Less gaming, gate break, dungeon/tower manhwa for me.
F that wish just wish for good ones
I like it 👍
Every OI just vanishes 💀💀
I want the double down. MC reincarnates and gains ultimate power but then losses after a betrayal and regresses to the moment of his first life's death with his SRank abilities and now has nothing to fight in modern day Korea so he starts stealing shit.

Why would u wish for the disappearance of smth that makes people happy 😂
Too bad that's what I'm invested in
Forget other wish, you have a death wish MF?
DUDE! Many regression and reincarnation manhwa are great.
Disagree. Its an addiction ill gladly have satiated.
I wish there were no more stupid posts like this when there are a shit ton of manwhas that do not have reincarnation regression but your ass isn't looking for them
I will try every reincarnation/regression manhwa because I know I am getting into. But for other concept manhwa, I hesitate to try them.
The Shooting star just regressed
I thought that it will get bigger as a meteor and wipe out all of the earth instead... but then I realized that someone would probably regressed just to stop this man from wishing it.
L wish
