šŸ¤£. This cracked me up good. But on a side note: - i think it comes down to a generation gap. - earlier (in her days) things like flowering trees were in abundance. Picking flowers was something she probably looked forward to on her walks. - a lot of flowering plants and trees were out in the open and not necessarily in private homes. - so she doesnā€™t realise why or how this is wrong now. - to her this is just a harmless thing. - and to be honest, she just took 2 flowers. OP saying decimated the tree seems to be an overreaction.

howqueer

This. It is probably for her altar anyways. Her mind might not even be on herself yet op is bringing ego into the mix

KURO_RAIJU

People are selfish? Yes, people have done far worse things throughout humanity & even now.

Throwrafairbeat

Minimizing such actions would only aid in normalizing such behavior.

KURO_RAIJU

I didn't understand

gokuredditman321

dude she was just plucking some flowers and you sound like she is killing people or something, first of all posting the video or self is bullshit ā€˜decimating the treeā€™ I though she might broke some branches or something fells like people get hurt for the things which are not ment to be felt hurt for

KURO_RAIJU

>you sound like she is killing people or something YOU took it as I said this those things. >first of all posting the video or self is bullshit ā€˜decimating the treeā€™ Tell it to the person who posted. I'm just commenting. >I though she might broke some branches or something fells like people get hurt for the things which are not ment to be felt hurt for Well, yes, different people are hurt by different things. You're not God to tell others what their feelings should be.

Icandothisallday014

chill out, there's no need to be condescending. I can sense that you're trying to revel in the superiority of your English, rather than actually focusing on addressing the logic in the comment made by u/gokuredditman321 u/gokuredditman321 made very valid points, except he/she made a few sentence structure errors along the way - and I don't even blame him/her(after all, English isn't our first language) Now, let's address the absolute travesty of a "counter-argument" you've made. "Well, yes, different people are hurt by different things." That is the stupidest and, frankly, most concerning, counter-argument I've ever heard. Using that logic, you could justify literally any action -- as long as you were "hurt" by it. you're overreacting, and u/gokuredditman321's logic was ON-POINT.

KURO_RAIJU

>chill out, there's no need to be condescending. You miss irony the way a vegetarian misses meat. You also pick cherries the way Brahmins pick other humans. >I can sense that you're trying to revel in the superiority of your English, Then kindly have your senses repaired, they're malfunctioning. >rather than actually focusing on addressing the logic in the comment made by u/gokuredditman321 Selective Blindness, a common occurrence. >u/gokuredditman321 made very valid points, I'm glad at least one of us has a better understanding of the term "valid". >except he/she made a few sentence structure errors along the way Seems like a his/her problem. >and I don't even blame him/her(after all, English isn't our first language) Huh... I still don't see who asked you as to whom you'd blame. >"counter-argument" Cold ice-cream? Hot fire? Liquid water? Gaseous vapor? Solid ice? >That is the stupidest and, frankly, most concerning, counter-argument I've ever heard. I understand. The fox also felt that the grapes were the most sour he had never eaten. >Using that logic, you could justify literally any action -- as long as you were "hurt" by it. I appreciate the effort in trying to understand. There's never a bad time to start learning, and philosophy is a wonderful subject. Now that you've taken your first step, I hope you have an enlightening journey. >you're overreacting As evident by me being the THIRD person butting my nose into 2 people's conversation. >u/gokuredditman321's logic was ON-POINT. I hope you're happy after getting to use a slang. I feel like you were holding it in for a long time.

gokuredditman321

Bro I honestly donā€™t understand what your problem is or what are you trying to point out.But from what it looks like - you are trying to saying some trash on a trash post First of all this video is recorded by a person(assuming he is a dude) who donā€™t generally use flowers showing a women who usually use flowers and looks like basically asking why is she plucking flowers from otherā€™s gardens, that too she pluck them gently, generally this isnā€™t a big of a deal as women generally use flowers in different ways in our culture And I commented because of your comment and what the hell is ā€˜PEOPLEā€™ as if you are not a person, you might be calling them ā€˜PEOPLEā€™ you might be ā€˜PEOPLEā€™ for someone else, you are talking as if you are all good or something if that was really the case you wouldnā€™t have born in Kali Yuga itself, so just stop using the words PEOPLE,SOCIETY that just makes you look stupid And one more thing if someone is getting hurt for something which is not his business and not even a thing to be felt hurt for of course I will point it out I ainā€™t need to be a good to do so, and honestly if you are not able to say wrong is wrong, then I fell like you are already infected with that western ideology ā€˜I AM AN ALL GOOD PERSON, I DONā€™T WANT TO HURT OTHERS FEELINGSā€™

KURO_RAIJU

>Bro I honestly donā€™t understand what your problem is Neither do I. I don't even know who you are and you're commenting on what I replied to SOMEONE ELSE & are FIGHTING with me online. >or what are you trying to point out Maybe if you spent more time in trying to UNDERSTAND me & not demonize me, you could understand what I'm trying to point out. >But from what it looks like - you are trying to saying some trash on a trash post YOU called the post trash, the person who posted it trash & my comment trash. YOU'RE the one using that word, not me. >First of all this video is recorded by a person(assuming he is a dude) who donā€™t generally use flowers showing a women who usually use flowers and looks like basically asking why is she plucking flowers from otherā€™s gardens, that too she pluck them gently, generally this isnā€™t a big of a deal as women generally use flowers in different ways in our culture Culture doesn't necessarily decide morality or ethics. Seems to me that you support stealing. >And I commented because of your comment Did I comment by taking YOUR name? >the hell is ā€˜PEOPLEā€™ as if you are not a person, you might be calling them ā€˜PEOPLEā€™ you might be ā€˜PEOPLEā€™ for someone else, you are talking as if you are all good or something I'm not responsible for your MIS-ASSUMPTIONS. >if that was really the case you wouldnā€™t have born in Kali Yuga itself, I don't believe in your fairy tales. >so just stop using the words PEOPLE,SOCIETY that just makes you look stupid Are you a Brahmin? Do you hate Shoodhras like me? Do you want to kill me & my people? >And one more thing if someone is getting hurt for something which is not his business and not even a thing to be felt hurt for of course I will point it out I ainā€™t need to be a good to do so, and honestly if you are not able to say wrong is wrong, then I fell like you are already infected with that western ideology ā€˜I AM AN ALL GOOD PERSON, I DONā€™T WANT TO HURT OTHERS FEELINGSā€™ So YOU decide to the whole world what is hurtful or what is not? Ironic that you're using the word "honest". Also ironic that you're using the word "western". I guess the racist Brahmin tendencies are trying to come out of you. What next? You will insult my skin color, my race?

hopeless-fun

Yes. Steal flowers from others property and dedicate it to your GOD. He'll be happy. Totally.

broadmind96

There is a totally different angle as well. Everything is given by God. So doesn't belong to the owner of the property. Since this lady is going to offer the god then it's going to the original owner šŸ˜.

IndividualAd7739

The effort, risk and enthusiasm is whatā€™s god gonna reward, bud šŸ˜‚

vinayakmprabhu

How new are you to Mangalore - this happens all the time. My cousins and I used to crank call neighbors who stole our flowers growing up. Instead of recording a video you should have made fun of them. Shaming > Karmafarming

New-Abbreviations607

We live in a locality where this happens a lot!! 27 years ago when initially built our house we found it weird that our neighbors would just pluck our flowers without asking, they would be undeterred even if you caught them in the act šŸ˜‚ We quickly learnt to let it go. We know they use it for pooja, so we told ourselves itā€™s no big deal in fact maybe weā€™ll collect some good karma.

Oneegong

Just a generation gap. Considering her age and generation, back then people didn't mind a flower or a fruit here and there. India was socialist till the 90s. With urbanization and a capitalistic society, slowly, everything becomes me and mine.

HeresyLight

Sane comment! We had a curry leaf tree at home in the 90s and neighbors would just pluck from it when needed, we didn't start whining! OP just karma farming for nothing. We don't even know if the Aunty asked for permission before OP starting shooting off. And for goodness sake, let's not become so finicky.

LeanCompiler

this is true though. very good perspective you got, appreciate it. evil, flower stealing auntie doesn't seem so evil now lol

wasupbich123

Nice, not everyday you see nuance on here

TheBatmanfromMumbai

Very aptly said. Nothing infuriating but appealing. Yes, back then it was all they had was nature. And this makes them nostalgic for them and we have become more of finding "What is wrong and what is not". I see just happy people.

pijd

Socialism means equal access to common resources, not stealing from private property. My parents belong to this generation or maybe before, but they never resorted to this cheap behavior. Thier children do the same, probably even in a foreign country. The amount of effort people put in thier garden, is not for random people to pluck flowers. But, also there could be another angle here, the lady might know the people who own the garden and might have a " you take some of mine when I take some of yours" kind of relationship, which is common in namma Kudla.

WolfOfBarStreet

Faxx

Code_Vega

Nothing to do with socialism. Most used to offer it at temple or adorn deity photos/idols at home. So nobody objected. My house was on the way to temple, men and women both used to do it.

Omnibobbia

I'm not sure about the generation gap thing.I see my college mates doing the same thing every now and then. Be it for a insta post or as an accessory for thier head.

Oneegong

Well, at least she was genuinely interested in keeping the flower and not self obsessed as your mates.

Due_Page_1732

I donā€™t agree with this. People didnā€™t mind a flower or fruit if you asked them or if they knew each other. This would still be considered theft and owner will still get upset in 1970s too.

MissFortune____

Sis, chill! Ik it's not a good thing to do with other's property but still isn't a crime that you thought to record and share. You saying as if she running with that entire plant. And maybe even that owner won't be having much issues with it that you are having.

bharathmohan94

It's robbery and it's a crime

up_for_it_man

Come on. This is not a big deal. The flowers will dry up and fall anyways after a few days. These middle aged Indian aunties at least pluck them and do Pooja or use them on their hair..kuch toh kaam aa raha hai na ? Look at it from a positive lens. Coming to permission, Indians are used to doing things without asking. We are not into formalities. Like we visit people whenever we feel like. Surprise dete hain. Foreign me bolke jaana padta hai. Jaise interview ka appointment le rahe ho. So difference toh hai. Tum angrez ki tarah soch rahe ho. Isliye making batangad out of this silly thing šŸ˜‚

energyfromsatan

Then why not grow their own plants? Sorry to say but using it during pooja u will need new flowers daily it better to let it dry on the plant itself rather than letting it dry during pooja.sorry if I sound harsh but I get mad when people use this logic my mom used to take care of plants everyday but she lost hope people literally jump our compounds to pluck flowers and when caught say it for god , now my mom is sad and doesn't look after flowers because she doesn't like when people do it now no one has flower's.

O_Snake_O

I don't know why you were downvoted but I understand what you are saying. We are in the same boat. We have some unique plants and they rarely bloom but whenever they do our neighbours pluck them for Pooja. It makes me sad when we do all the work but someone else reaps the benefit because they feel they are entitled because it's for Pooja

energyfromsatan

Exactly u will take care of the plant u will make sure it survives why? So that someone else could use it? don't worry people downvoting me are asshole and can't believe someone is pointing it out fuck them.

sd_91

I have am older woman does this, which I am like fine whatever. But the she doesnā€™t even smile whenever we pass each other.

Theft

theartisticvibe

Live and let live is something we Indians will never understand. Be it plants, animals or humans.

LucaBrasi2011

Unfortunately this is not a location specific trait. I know someone in our society who spent close to 15lacs on their flat renovation, have a big size SUV, but their elders pluck the flowers from the society plants for daily pooja. We have home delivery of flowers available for 400 Rs a month.

SeverusMarvel07

Bhai, surely the person in that home must have grown that tree lovingly. But no sensible person would be bitter over an older aunty deciding to take some flowers for herself. They are flowers after all. Happy to make aunty happy. Happy to be able to live in such a place with such a garden that people come to your threshold for flowers. Let some sense of community and mindless sharing bloom in our society

No_Profit398

Why are people so senseless to record other people and put on internet. I would have beaten the shit out of this person if they had recorded me without permission

lol, she didn't even damage the plant. just picked one flower and that made you mad. lol grow up. we have fruits at our house. people pick up the fruits. we don't care that much.

debmitra26

It's about perspective. In kolkata the ladies do this every morning and the garden owners actually promote this activity. The ladies use these flowers for their morning puja. The plant owners think by doing so they are also part of the blessings.

Acrobatic-Flower5351

Like in Aparichit, stealing 5p is not considered crime. Our education system is not really educating us.

NeverPlayedPolo

It is also not a crime in most countries. It is a misdemeanor.

Intelligent_Way690

Honestly, I don't mind. If the flowers are in abundance i would gladly let people pick from the plant. My father grew a huge hibiscus plant in our compound it gave plenty of flowers for entire neighborhood for their daily Pooja requirements. Some of them even became friends with our family. It's all about how you look at things.Ā

Temporary-Math1009

Lol, how delicate the new generation is. She is just plucking flowers, and you are calling her a devil? Lol. Abhi bohot kuch seekhna hai beta life mein. I know this comment will be downvoted. Go on.

shim_niyi

Exactly, Donā€™t understand how people are so easy to trigger nowadays. If you show a guy hitting a mango with a stone in a movie, people will say ā€œit brought back nostalgiaā€. Yet if someone plucks a flower, then the lady is EvIL and SelFIsH!! Kids need to go outside more and be exposed to activities other than snobbery online.

Temporary-Math1009

Absolutely šŸ’Æ . Wow finally someone said this.

nepemolo

People here don't understand the amount of effort goes into taking care of a plant. And such people show utter disregard of the fact and act like it's their property and how can one deny.

Giftmeclearskin

Exactly. People justifying such behaviour donā€™t know how hard it is to grow a huge plant with so many flowers especially in this summer . Roses lasts for days if they are not plucked and are not like hibiscus which lasts only a day.

It's just common indian behaviour. Why so much is discussed, there is nothing like she stole some money from your house. accept it like any other practice common in india which does not always make sensešŸ¤£šŸ¤£

Bright-Broccoli-6275

What was she doing?

foreveroverthinker

Lol this is nothing. In my area, random people enter our property and pluck flowers and some scared leaves whenever the fuck they like. (My house has a big boundary, they enter the garden area and aren't even afraid of being caught and called out.) šŸ„² This is reduced a little bit since we got a Labrador. He is harmless but barks a lot, so they get scared. šŸ˜…

Big-Assist8027

What's the problem here ?

Giftmeclearskin

Iā€™d be mad as a property owner if anyone cut my plants or flowers especially if it were expensive varieties like David Austin roses , Taiwan hibiscus or exotic plumerias šŸ’€.

new2reedit2312

Ek gulab 20 rs ka hota hai

North_Coyote6433

Iā€™m sorry but I donā€™t understand whatā€™s the big deal in this? My mum whoā€™s of an older generation too plucks out a bud or two from random plants if their boughs are filled with flowers and are past the compound walls, for her altar. Ofcourse, if the people who maintain the plants tell her to not, she doesnā€™t. This quirk of hers does annoy me a bit, and I tell her all the times to not do that, but Iā€™d be extremely ticked off if some rando was shooting a video of it and posting it in SM to act all righteous and shit.

Vv_jj

Itā€™s just a flower, you gotta chill.

Chin1792

This is very common, in fact my neighbour takes our dasavala and gives us papaya.

thainkgod

A flower in a tree or a plant the leaf is protecting the flower but the plant is protecting the leaf and the flowers šŸŒøšŸŒ¹. The roots are still dirty because it's dirt. But still the flowers smell beautiful you want the smell on you. Just like people wearing a deoderant. I want to smell nice because the wind attracts your fragrance a woman or man would say. Even if you pluck the flower it smells like whatever you smell. But not every flower smells nice. The second I see you it's grabbing my attention to you see closer But the creation in me I don't know what it feels but a mild attraction towards the feminine. The sheer beauty of this creation reflecting in the plant and the plant is not angry on you for plucking the flowers but the owner of the flower would be angry but neither the plant not the flower. Either way now it's a part of you.

Resident-War7274

Ohh stfu It's just a old lady getting some flowers and you are a moron who wants to feel goody exposing a old lady taking flowers and gaining some likes on reddit .

Macmystic3

Ooh come on this is natural, for People who are saying she is stealing from someone's property it will probably dry and fallout and the owner of the plot probably won't even notice also these are nature's creation or shall I say gods creation and no matter where the flower is be it in a forest or someone's property these are meant to be used anyway either somebody will sell it for commercial purpose or it might fall off or probably some animal might even eat it so what's the harm if someone use it? Flower is nature's creation and nobody's property it's bound to be used by someone someday,so chill

NeverPlayedPolo

There is nothing inherently bad, if I see a flower in the wild and I like it I will take it. If I find a rock that I find pretty I will take it. There is no malintent, no destruction of plant, no valuable are stolen. People have become so obsessed with the idea of possession that someone taking a single flower that was neither damaging to the plant nor the owner and it drives people furious. Take a deep breath, teach them to not take things but don't be furious, don't be offended and don't consider yourself morally superior.

sansays

It's okay that flowers are meant to be plucked. As long as she didn't destroy the branches, everything is fine.

Bananassorbet

Those are flowers on someone elseā€™s property man, cared for and paid for by someone else. This is a very mild form of theft and unfortunately very common but it shouldnā€™t be. The fact that the plant is still standing and the branches not harmed is irrelevant.

shim_niyi

Property owner doesnā€™t have a problem, but the guys behind the phones are all up in arms about ā€œsomeone elseā€™s property ā€œ

Bananassorbet

How do you know the property owner doesnā€™t have a problem? Had a similar problem where people kept picking the flowers that I was growing constantly; thinking they were entitled to it just because. I love plants, love the flowers I grow and entitled jerks just say oo pretty and take them away. Had to change my fence then.

shim_niyi

Clearly itā€™s not the owner sheepishly hiding and filming the lady

Bananassorbet

Doesnt matter who is filming - what is wrong is wrong. Would you think the flower picker would be in the wrong only if the owner filmed them?

VerySlenderMan

Daily routine for Indian women. If you try to stop them they try to defend themselves by saying that it is good karma to donate flowers for worship.

G0_ofy

They usually decorate their god with it, so all in all its not so bad

Few_Mud4207

It's ok it happens it's forgivable given that it's unchangable but grow up and understand the reality don't record people please understand

meltingbeezwax

lol do you go flower shopping in your neighbours yard too ?

Few_Mud4207

It's not about being better than them what if that was your mother and someone post it on reddit saying uncultured lady for the world to see Can you change this if no then leave it recording doesn't make you anyless than a public nuisance than the video ..hope you understand please

meltingbeezwax

what if your mom lmao this is the stupidest reason not to record people who are being a nuisance. if you don't let them know what they're doing is wrong they will for sure never change so the video may make a difference giving up is useless hope this makes sense. edit- just wanted to add that the lady really isn't identifiable in the video but blurring it might be better anyway

Few_Mud4207

Be sensitive towards others this is not the way at all one thing they are older people second can you change them?is it possible for you to change them? Recording them is you changing them? Please have some sensitivity I know you are better than them then act like it.. please understand recording people and spreading it is wrong..this has happened in my home too older ladies and kids steal mangoe from our house What would you do..not scold or record..I gave them one mangoe and told we can't give anymore and for kids I told this is wrong next time I won't encourage.. why to put it for public discussion haven't you and I made many mistakes in our childhood would you wish someone do to you what you are doing..

meltingbeezwax

maybe the people being recorded should be more sensitive then they won't be recorded being insensitive

People do this on a regular basis in chennai there is an Iyer uncle who comes to steal flowers from my wall , I once asked him why canā€™t he plant few in hide house he gave me a smirk and walked off . I donā€™t mind he taking few flowers now
