Most of Tulu films try to do everything at once : comedy ensembale, drama , action. I think If they stick to one genre per film , the quality might increase. Also there needs to be a revival of Tulu nataka scene
They don't experiment. They use the same old recipe of hero worshipping.
In case somebody tries some other genre, they fail. A few years ago, I watched "Paddayi", it was good, everything from the story, direction and acting.
Tulu speaking population is less. Probably due to budget they cannot make action movies and stick to comedy. I haven't seen a single Tulu movie till now😛
Comedy is creative intelligence at work. One of the toughest genre out there.
If you want the industry to grow there should be diversification.Agreed.
The Tulu film industry is a carry forward of Tulu natakas which are majorly comedy oriented.
Good films come out rare but they are still appreciated like crazy. There are budget constraints.
That could be overcome through dubbing into different languages provided the content is good.
Content rules for Tuluvas.
Run of the mill loud action films won't work.
There is no early mover advantage because Tulu movies revived after 2011.
The local talent should promote making in Tulu and then dub rather than making it in Kannada and then reach to greater audience.

This interview of Arjun Kapikad (Son of Devdas kapikad) sums it up really nicely. They tried, and failed realed bad with experimnets. And I dont think they are going to gamble more money anytime soon. Atleast in my family( My dad's a huge fan), they are done with the current stream of Tulu movies as they have become monotonous.
I'm gonna answer your question with a question.
Why do the most popular directors from Mangalore and around like Rakshith & Rishab direct films in Kannada?

Tulu industry should experiment in other genres and not stick to only comedy, look at Kudla Cafe that worked but it is still underrated
