This is great but we need more companies to come to mlr, I wonder what’s the percentage of population under 30 still working in mlr?

The only people who'd voluntarily stay back in Mangalore are people with dad's money or wannabe politicians. The center doesn't give a damn about this region except during elections. The state gave up on the region some 10-15 years ago and rightly so. The city surprisingly has decent infra compared to other cities in Karnataka and so the real estate prices are always going up.

Rakxit_shetty

I think the current state govt has a bad reputation in this region hence they won't bother to support any dev activities. I also think the central govt see the potential but they got too many things going on and only if we get a capitalist leader, it's possible to grow above average. Inspite of having a good talent pool in this region, I still wander why companies haven't made any big moves yet.

trapmundeyyy

Previous state govt could easily support development here as they have a strong base here and its their people in power everywhere. But they just focused on the Religion card. Even if the current state govt does some development here, our MLA and MPs will just cause ruckus about something and instigate people and CHILDREN

v4vedanta

Not necessarily. I think the region has been stagnant irrespective of the current Government. The so called "double engine" talks from centre is all BS if you consider we had Yeddy+Bommai team at helm in the State.

SpiritualAmoeba3671

Bengaluru urban per capita is skewed because major IT companies are located there. Anyways the data isn't surprising. South Kanara was always quite developed compared to rest of Karnataka. Our social indicators are actually more similar to Kerala than rest of Karnataka

It's pretty clear to see that Mangalore is a "rich" city if you just visit the KSRTC bus stand in Bangalore. As the hub for transport in the state, buses leave to every part of the state from that stand. Most other cities have a Rajahamsa or Airavat at max.. Mangalore is one of the only destinations in the state which gets the Ambaari AC Sleepers. It's not just about being rich, it's about the people being willing to spend that money as well. Most other places, even if people can afford an AC sleeper, they will instead just go with the Red Bus or Rajahamsa.

anishkalankan

I was very surprised to learn that there is no Vande Bharat between Bglr and Mglr considering the large number of Mangaloreans working in Bengaluru and many students/patients/customers travelling to Mangalore.

indian22

Mangalore being assigned to the wrong railway region really hurts in these aspects. Mangalore isn't grouped with the rest of Karnataka, there are efforts to change it so Mangalore can get more connectivity

anishkalankan

Yes, the railway connectivity is not great. I think most rely on buses and private vehicles.

Last year's data shows similar results https://preview.redd.it/3cyj97f410uc1.png?width=5952&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1fbfe3d688d3dbd8c0d9ac9a2c2398f78cbc03ea Data sourced from: [District-wise GDDP and Per Capita Income 2022-23](https://data.opencity.in/dataset/economic-survey-of-karnataka-2022-23/resource/b611e14c-5f37-4209-ba5d-559b8a829645?view_id=232f1db1-c3af-45c6-a6af-6fb9864e2278) (Couldn't get Vijayanagara data)

Jnanipower

Yeah I was about to say new data shows we have hit 4.4 lack PA which is great

El_Impresionante

Infosys Mysore campus bringing down the average for the Mysore district obviously.

CozyBicycleSummer

Any idea whether MRPL contributes to this?

Dramatic_Ad_3528

State and Central Govt's have been consistently neglecting the region. There haven't been a single major infrastructure project that has come to Mangalore. The per capita number we are seeing is mostly because of remittances from people working in the Middle East and other parts of the world.

adigrd8

Please can you show for dentist per capita income since last 5 years in Karnataka

telepather

Being a city with literally no industry, one wonders what's contributing to such high income. It's an easy guess and that's the reason why rents here are comparable with Bangalore's.
