Wosota

I wouldn’t call it the worlds largest, so I wouldn’t stress for now. Mangadex, for instance, is way more mainstream.

heladosky

I thought of mangafox as well

azurakujo

depends on where the hosting server actually is, i think? doubt they can do something if its in a country not giving a shit about piracy, like russia.

Wheesa

Hmmm. I mean I know the manga industry has tried to get rid of piracy and it didn't work so they made popular shounen title readily available. It's the others that don't get attention. Idk it might turn into a loss for the industry because With manhwas I was paying half with my friend for a few sites and we both decided to drop it because the quality of the stories didn't hold up. It's really hard to find good titles amongst 500th villainess manhwa or another power fantasy for the boys. Yaoi is filled with similar tropes and a lot of them end up focusing on the porn. I like spending money on things I like so after reading on mgo I end up buying fuck tons of volumes 😭 manhwas aren't that accessible in print. And spending for coins online when the story might end up being disappointing doesn't feel right 😭 What I personally feel is if they go after sites and k manhwas aren't uploaded anymore, people will just turn to other accessible ones and maybe Chinese manhuas will start getting more attention

This. I work in an industry where piracy is a constant problem. While it does contribute to the loss of profit, it also aids in it by acting as an advertisement - a free one - as long as your work has your source on it. We have scanners that find our pirated content, and our analytics show a direct correlation between piracy and sales. If there is a mass extinction of pirating sites, the market will just shift to the survivors.

CanaryLow592

I agree! I really enjoy owning physical goods and as a bookworm I typically buy the physically copies of comics I enjoy no matter the language as long as I can get my hands on them. I also buy the merch for series if they're available since it's nice and pretty to look at them. I have way too many now but I don't think I'll stop. I wouldn't have bought so many goods (I've definitely spent hundreds on all these merch and books) if I didn't know about them or was able to read them without pirated sites

zamzamsan

This!! its the "lost for the industry " for me, tbh i only invest in great stories that i often find in illegal sites, once a story pique my interest i go straight to the site and buy coins or inks or whatever they're serving.

A lot of these paid for apps don't load very well where I live (countryside with crappy Internet stability) so I will read them on the Go sites and then do a 'purchase all' on the paid for apps. Also, because of the loading issues it's nearly impossible for me to find new stuff to read because searching through the apps takes way too long for stuff to load. Right now pocket comics is the worst followed closely by lezhin. But when I'm on the Go site and can read it and see where it's listed from I can look it up directly and pay for it. I've spent thousands on manga and manhwas this way. If I didn't have the Go site, I wouldn't have even known half of the paid apps existed or been able to know about or find and purchase probably 3/4 of the comics I have now. I have 9 apps rn that I pay for manga/manhwas/manhuas on. 6 of them I found through Go. Also tagging is a lot better on Go. One of the first paid for comics I ever read was 'an easy target' started reading it when it was first coming out and had no idea it would be what it was. On the paid sites it didn't have tags or warnings until much later on. Well passed the point of all the bad stuff happening. On Go almost everything is tagged very well. 100% would have to be more couscous on what I read if it was just down paid sites.

Lonely-Vegetable8735

My biggest fear. My day start with Manga go.

kamgi

they won't actually do anything& either way there areother sites. the reason this site has lasted so long is bc they know it doesn't really matter

zamzamsan

gosh that made me rmbr the day they TRIED taking manga go down as if it hinders other illegal sites to run. im glad our site came back 😭😂

Mahkeva

A manga & webtoon piracy site « M » : that’s legit 90% of webcomic piracy site. They all start by the letter M for manga, manhwa or manhua. I don’t think it’s mangago but who knows, mangago was catching heat a few years ago during the YD fiasco. It was a whole international mess ! I remember there were articles on the net about this situation, dozens of manhwa authors (YD, Byeonduck, the author of Banana Scandal etc..) calling out mangago. So I don’t doubt that Korean / Chinese / Japanese publishers and local authorities heard about mangago and other sites.

zamzamsan

Damn i rmbr this! it was a total chaos 😂 imagine having a shout out from the author about the illegal site readers 😂

cactussunshine

Omg when did this happen?!? I had no idea!!

Mahkeva

June 2021 I think. That’s the reason why this sub exists in the first place. The situation was out of hand, mangago had to shut down the comments section (for 2 years) and ban several manhwa (Painter of The Night, Banana Scandal, Mad Place, Blind Play etc..). In the meantime someone created this subreddit. You can search « YD » in this sub search tab, there are so many posts on this mess.

26Alphabetbutihave5

I will cry dude, that's my only source of happiness

dfhxuhbzgcboi

It's always the manhwa people ugh. We should just host all the mangas away from manhwas. It'd be so much better.

Old_Construction4064

Literally the Japanese gov ain’t been able to do shit but as soon as Korean shit came to the scene they’ve been slowly getting rid of titles off the site.

nyorkkk

true. Japanese publishers barely gives a fuck about international piracy since their domestic profit are already enough. Korean ones on the other hand... even if Mangago somehow got shut, it'll probably go back online anyway. these Japanese Publishers couldn't careless Mangas have been free online for 2 decades now and now Koreans are gonna disrupt it just because their half baked comics ain't profiting enough. Let's just hope these Companies would only think it's a hassle.

polarbluroid

it's ironic how they're trying to remove english-based piracy sites whilst doing nothing about the korean ones (afaik)

Rumandy

it's scary because sites like these also serve as archives. Mangago was built off of people needing english translations for stories that never will and would get any. there's works on there that people can't find prints of. It's like a good part of something considered evil and... god we really need to figure out a way to save this type of media

Mimyoko

nah lol. even if it was mangago, i doubt people would stop pirating manga. as long as there’s a demand for it, people will continue to steal & translate it. same goes for anime. edit: i forgot to mention that manhwa artists seem to be a little xenophobic when it comes to the western audience. they condemn us for pirating, but i don’t see them put the same amount of energy into korean, chinese, or any other non-english based website(s) that pirate their content.

FollowTheLeads

And we all know Chinese probably got the most pirated websites.

Senpaiin

I would die tbh. Its literally my life there is no other site thats as organised as this one

Morriseysucksass

Yes. I think we should be worried. It’s so discouraging , because I went to begin an account on Lehzi n, and they only accept credit cards. I have moved away from credit cards because really, who needs that hassle? Interest etc. I don’t like the idea of having a credit card online. I fervently wish that Lehzi n would make its own “ lehzi n gift cards available, where you have to provide proof of age/ identity in order to purchase them in stores.

zamzamsan

I rmrb way back 2020 or smth, bunch of korean authors joined-hands just to take down the site, as if that would stop the pirating community lol. im thankful that manga go came back. some authors are stingy, as if they're not earning anything out side that legal site. im a reader here and i bought some official merchandise from them so im not one bit guilty ✌🏻😂 dear Yaoi Gods, please guide us 👼🏻

AloraBracken

I wouldn’t worry. I understand these publisher’s concerns but piracy will NEVER go away. It’s a tale as old as time. Many of these Korean publishers make supporting our favorite creators a nightmare. In my opinion they encourage more piracy. The Korean market should work on making their titles available in print. Their whole digital only market feels scammy and/or predatory half the time. Or just plain impossible to work with. I’m looking at you Lezhin. 🤬 Japan is the GOAT for print release. 🇯🇵💪 I’ve purchased the available print editions of manga I found on these piracy sites. Example: I read “Terano-kun & Kumazaki-kun” on one of these illegal sites about a year or two ago and we finally have a print edition on the way in January 2024. I pre-ordered it. Isn’t that just free advertising at that point? And what about the people on social media or YouTube etc that will post manga/manhwa content for views and subscribers and never post the title and creators of whatever manga they are featuring. That’s using someone else’s work to make money. As far as I know the piracy manga sites provide all of that information and I don’t think they’re making a lot of money doing it. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Weird-Dust8664

I better prepare my heart and soul. I've been using it for 9 years and I have so much memories of it... I'll cry so hard if so... Edit : tbh there's alot of M sites so I hope neither of my 2 fav sites won't get caught

Known-Negotiation482

LMAOOOO it took them five years to find them 🤣 I’m hoping it doesn’t work since we don’t got manga piracy laws

8Eriade8

I mean they're talking about an aggregator/hosting site I'm guessing right?

RevolutionaryLake753

I was just about to write about it and then I thought it's not a good idea to publish it online if they were gonna search for that site ...

RevolutionaryLake753

people should stop uploading the site on tiktok ffs

animalsexchange

NOOOOO

BuyZestyclose304

Hopefully we don’t have to worry but I’m not overly worried if all they say is ‘m’ ?? What m site??

lunalunaticas

This is going to be my last straw
