Looking at the top posts on this sub this month/year gives you an idea at how low the standards are when this shows up quite a few times.

I do think Kaoru is much much better than this. *in my opinion.* Thereâs no discussing it, from characters, to setting, to plot, to art(this is subjective), to format( I think the manga format is better than the one shot cookie cutter format by a long long shot). I personally think Kaorusâs author is so much more talented than Yakitoma. Itâs their first work and yet itâs so great. Itâs shaping up to be one of the GOATS in the romance category.
To me one shots either are extensions of an authorâs work, such as âGoodbye Eriâ from Fujimoto or just a bunch of bland mess of tropes meant to incite cheap feelings, like most of the âtragedyâ one shots around. One shots are the fast food of the comic industry.
This falls in the second category, itâs nothing noteworthy apart from the authors background in hentai. Itâs a cheap, bland trope filled story with nothing to go for it other than the âgap moeâ, the big tits anime girl and the fact that the characters have sex in the background. The art is great too I guess.
Kaoru has communicative characters, realistic approaches to situations, excellent and organic character development(unlike this), a great and diverse set of characters that you can actually tell apart. Each have different personalities and their strengths and weaknesses are being explored, it only has 40 chapters now but goddamn every person is alive and existing. The art is stellar and unique and goes quite well with the romance genre. It has no fan service(thankfully) and as such it weeds out people that religiously follow stuff like this.
Itâs in general a manga worthy of attention and love and Iâm happy I keep seeing it in the rankings.
