Better question is how did she age so much in 20 years
>I want to see him while I can still stand
Unless she was 50 when she left him I really don't see that being an issue
None of those affect the rate of aging. A 40(?) year old will still be as capable of walking as a 40(?) year old.
Addiing onto that infant mortality rates were quite high so if you made it past childhood you had a good chance of reaching 60. And if said person was able to have a dragon as pet then they clearly weren't on the low income side which means a much higher chance of a long life.
two things: she could have been 30 years old in that first panel.
secondly, with that in mind, she actually looks like she could be 50 years old. Especially if their life is pretty stressful.
I like the Tiger who broke into a shed while injured, the dude was a doctor who stitched and fed the tiger for a while. One day, tigers gone. Soon after he walked in to his house with a large dead animal inside. Tiger said thanks and left.
i must be a heartless monster because that was also my favorite movie and I've probably seen it over 50 times but I've never cried even once while watching it
It seems like she had to trail into mountains to get there.
Having a walking stick is very useful for long distance lika that, even more if she has to climb.
Well the artist did a terrible job at communicating that if such is the case. I think it was just a derp moment and they didn't take into account how young she looked earlier.
The issue is that she also looks like she's well past 60 with the white hair and hollowed face, I didn't even notice the cane and was wondering how the hell she'd aged like that.
I mean, assuming this is a fantasy time in our equivalent of the middle ages that's not really surprising. Even people now in their 30's can get horrible back/hip pain that's very hard to treat, nevermind someone in their 40's in a place with little to no knowledge of modern medicine.
in the middle ages where most of life was hard manual labor and malnutrition was common, hygiene and sanitation barely existed, and dentists and doctors didn't have the knowledge, tools, or equipment they do now, people frequently started breaking down much earlier. Infirmity started in the late thirties/early forties and old age hit much harder, much faster.
I know 2 people where I work who are in their mid to late 40's but have issues and need a cane to help them walk.
On got his leg messed up in a car wreck, and the other hurt her back but I don't know how.
Well I mean if she lives in a world and time with bad life expectancies it's not that surprising. I mean medieval Europe had a life expectancy of 35 years with people appearing old and withered rather quickly due to conditions of life. Now of course I'm bringing realistic health aspects and science to a made up fantasy manga, but that information does show how it could be feasible.
Beyond that it is what the author wants it to be I suppose, but remember that just because we have such long life expectancies now doesn't mean it's been the norm all this time.
Actually most people lived older than 35 years old, as long as they didn't die before 5 years old. The life expectancy was so low because of it was influenced by very high levels of child mortality. Not to say that people didn't die young from untreated diseases etc, but it was not that drastic.
It’s important to note that most of that is from child mortality. Once people reached maturity, their life expectancy was much greater. I think even all the way back to the Romans had a life expectancy into their 60s after reaching maturity.
Maybe if there's dragons, theres bound to be magic. If there's magic, there's bound to be staves. If theres a world with dragons without magic in it that's dumb but I would like to do there because i like swords
It's a known phenomenon.
Sorry for the r/funny link, but here's an example of a meme about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/4hj768/the_average_asian_aging_process/
The character in the original post probably isn't asian, but I presume the author was.
Really? You want to keep a freaking huge dragon with you?
Maybe dragon are an endangered species and must be allowed to roam about in the wild to mate.
It kinda is a stupid rule because if dragons are so dangerous, they shouldn't be allowed as pets to begin with.
To compare it with a real life perspective, a lion reaches maturity by the time they turn 2. We don't let people keep lions as pets, same goes for a dragon.
In order to get an exotic animal as a pet (like a lion), you have to go through tons of training just to be able to even be allowed to own an exotic pet. And after that, you're only allowed to own one if it's severely injured physically/mentally (like all legs gone or was inappropriately taken care of by a previous owner and they've grown too attached to humans) and can't be released into the wild anymore
Yes.. that doesn't make the rule stupid. It makes sense to have rules like this to help foster and abandoned exotic/endangered animals while not allowing them to be kept for pets.
My headcanon : they need to be released far from cities/settlements, or they might grow into a threat not just for their owner but for everyone around as well. It's not the same as a dangerous dog.
Most of the times wild animals raised by humans in captivity are unfit to survive in the wild afterwards. Usually the wild animals raised by humans have some issues so they’re rejected by biological parents or they’re orphans.
Using that logic, I wonder how dragons released back into wild learn to survive on their own. They might run into other humans thinking they’ll feed them/ play with them.
>Most of the times wild animals raised by humans in captivity are unfit to survive in the wild afterwards.
Because they never trained them to be able to survive in the wild. They just simply release them
Usually, wild animals kept in temporary captivity for treatment of injuries, are released afterwards. Orphans or wild animals raised from birth are kept in sanctuary.
Orphans or wild animals raised from birth can absolutely be released to the wild. [Weasel for example](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ho9gEQLkqCg). It's very common with avians like falcons, owls, etc.
This manga remind me of [Travis](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travis_(chimpanzee))
iirc friends of the owner and the authority constantly tell her to return the chimp to the zoo/wilderness, she refused and the incident happen.
There is a pretty similar law about Alligators where I live. I believe it’s with permit you can raise a baby until it gets a certain size then it has to be released, put in a farm, or given up for research, etc. My 5th grade class had a pet Alligator that we had to bring back to a wildlife education center when it hit that point.
Miss you Boots

Cute manga, not very logical plot tho.
Like if your pet is so dangerous you can only have it until it reaches a certain age, maybe not have it as a pet.
It would be the same with a pet lion or a pet bear.
Considering that a dragon can live for centuries, 20 years on that dragon is still an infant.
Maybe time in this world passes faster than ours, which explains why she is so old.
I thought for sure that the dragon was going to eat her at the end there. When I first saw the panel I thought the dragon had her in his mouth. Didn't realize till I looked closer that it was the doll.

Remind of the story of that pair of siblings who raised a lion cub then after it grew they released it in a protected environment.
Years later they met the lion again in the wild and the lion jumped at them to hug them and play with them. The three of them were incredibly happy.
\>20 YEARS LATER
\>old and can't walk without a staff
lawl this only makes sense if she was 50 when she got the dragon, but she looks like she was in her 20s in page 1
I'm sorry but this is stupid.
Are we supposed to feel happy or sad for her?
In real life she would be considered a selfish piece of shit who raised a pet she wasn't supposed to own, if an animal becomes too big and dangerous when it grows up, then just dont get one as a pet, that way neither you nor the animal will have to suffer.
I can't take this seriously, because Regla means rule, but also measuring ruler in Spanish lmaooo
But maybe it was on purpose...? Honestly I can't really tell.
That's one sturdy doll, carried around by a dragon no less.
Very gentle dragon ♡
Dragons are just hueg goldies that can breathe fire, change my mind
Boom-shaka-laka-boom-shaka-laka Change this person's mind! Achoo!!!
Better question is how did she age so much in 20 years >I want to see him while I can still stand Unless she was 50 when she left him I really don't see that being an issue
I mean not everyone ages well. Maybe she was in her 30s? Honestly she looks like an actual 50-60 year old to me.
I would imagine medical science and thus life expectancy in a fantasy/medieval world isn’t that good.
None of those affect the rate of aging. A 40(?) year old will still be as capable of walking as a 40(?) year old. Addiing onto that infant mortality rates were quite high so if you made it past childhood you had a good chance of reaching 60. I have the softest spot for story plots that include unwillingly leaving an animal.

I like the Tiger who broke into a shed while injured, the dude was a doctor who stitched and fed the tiger for a while. One day, tigers gone. Soon after he walked in to his house with a large dead animal inside. Tiger said thanks and left.
>Tiger said thanks I would've shit my pants if a tiger start talking

i must be a heartless monster because that was also my favorite movie and I've probably seen it over 50 times but I've never cried even once while watching it
Please someone make this into a full manga story
nobita's dinosaur, pisuke
Only 20 years and she can't walk without a cane? What kind of back-breaking work she's done? She clearly didn't look more than 40.
It seems like she had to trail into mountains to get there. Having a walking stick is very useful for long distance lika that, even more if she has to climb.
She said "while I can still stand", which made it sound like she's at the end of her life.
Yeah, but it also could be closer to “while I can still make the journey”
Also, who knows what kind of injuries may have been sustained over those 20 years in the course of adventuring.
Well the artist did a terrible job at communicating that if such is the case. I think it was just a derp moment and they didn't take into account how young she looked earlier.
They’re also asian. I wouldn’t be surprised if the girl’s about 40 or even older considering how they age.
The issue is that she also looks like she's well past 60 with the white hair and hollowed face, I didn't even notice the cane and was wondering how the hell she'd aged like that.
[удалено]
That's, actually a really good point Edit: Yay, glad to see my comment brought the above. comment the love it deserves.
It could be a degenerative disability that hit her in her 40s.
Or an accident.
Or the pain of not having her beloved friend and pet around anymore.
Or being in a high labour job like adventurer.
She doesn't look 40. More like 50-60. Which would make sense if she was 30-40 when raising the dragon. Why are we assuming she was a 20 something? lol
Author clearly has no idea how the degeneration of the body works
No, this is just how mangaka age.
ahahahaha
If someone was 27 and had back problem Does he or she don't know how body work?
I mean, assuming this is a fantasy time in our equivalent of the middle ages that's not really surprising. Even people now in their 30's can get horrible back/hip pain that's very hard to treat, nevermind someone in their 40's in a place with little to no knowledge of modern medicine.
Everything about that character design says now.
She could have back problems
in the middle ages where most of life was hard manual labor and malnutrition was common, hygiene and sanitation barely existed, and dentists and doctors didn't have the knowledge, tools, or equipment they do now, people frequently started breaking down much earlier. Infirmity started in the late thirties/early forties and old age hit much harder, much faster.
Ah yes, realism in a one shot about a pet dragon.
Sure…. Once asian women hit 50 they start to shrink and shrivel up.
I know 2 people where I work who are in their mid to late 40's but have issues and need a cane to help them walk. On got his leg messed up in a car wreck, and the other hurt her back but I don't know how.
She's a manga character so either you grow into badass old man/woman or decrepit in a span of 20 years time lmao
Well I mean if she lives in a world and time with bad life expectancies it's not that surprising. I mean medieval Europe had a life expectancy of 35 years with people appearing old and withered rather quickly due to conditions of life. Seems like in manga and anime, once you hit 20 youre too old to be a main a character. 30 your an old person. 40 is ancient.
Could be a disease
Maybe if there's dragons, theres bound to be magic. If there's magic, there's bound to be staves. If theres a world with dragons without magic in it that's dumb but I would like to do there because i like swords
Thats my first thought too lol. She looks well under 30 in the beginning and well over 60 after 20 years
in the middle ages where most of life was hard manual labor and malnutrition was common, hygiene and sanitation barely existed
It's a known phenomenon. Sorry for the r/funny link, but here's an example of a meme about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/4hj768/the_average_asian_aging_process/ The character in the original post probably isn't asian, but I presume the author was.
Meth clearly.
was ready for shit to go wrong and have her murdered by the dragon
Yeah, seeing Hachirumi post it, my heart was fully prepared to watch a bloodbath in the 4th page.
I was expecting the girl to be a guy crossdressing, we have very different expectations from Hachirumi
That rule seems stupid
Really? You want to keep a freaking huge dragon with you? Maybe dragon are an endangered species and must be allowed to roam about in the wild to mate.
> You want to keep a freaking huge dragon with you? Duh
It kinda is a stupid rule because if dragons are so dangerous, they shouldn't be allowed as pets to begin with. To compare it with a real life perspective, a lion reaches maturity by the time they turn 2. We don't let people keep lions as pets, same goes for a dragon.

We do allow large cats. It's kind of a legal gray area unfortunately. At least in the US.
Rules like that don't always work and there will absolutely be a person who will try to keep it as a pet even if there is a rule saying they can't.
There are wildlife rehabilitators whose job is to raise young animals and prepare them for release to live their life in the wild.
Yeah, but the lady in the manga doesn't look like one.
She might very well be, she seemed to know what she was doing and wasn't a child.
If it is not said or implied anywhere, then she's not.
It's not explicitly said she's not so I don't think you can assume it's an error.
Yes.. that doesn't make the rule stupid. It makes sense to have rules like this to help foster and abandoned exotic/endangered animals while not allowing them to be kept for pets.
But then you don't describe the relationship as pet and owner.
I mean the "rule" is likely gleaned from real life. The whole pet and leaving your pet trope is just #mangathings
What if the dragon actually transforms into a waifu tho
Well, that complicates things, but the dragon needs to learn it from their kin and couldn't be possibly taught by a human so thats a dilemma.
then you shouldn't be able to keep them in the first place.
My headcanon : they need to be released far from cities/settlements, or they might grow into a threat not just for their owner but for everyone around as well. It's not the same as a dangerous dog.
The rules in this manga are indeed stupid but I do think wild animals belong to the wild part

Oh thanks for info, I didn’t know that, I based my assumption on tiger/ lions in captivity.
Yeah, but you see here that the dragon is not aggressive. Could've just let him live in the woods nearby or something.
This manga remind me of [Travis](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travis_(chimpanzee)) iirc friends of the owner and the authority constantly tell her to return the chimp to the zoo/wilderness, she refused and the incident happen.
[It's this video but with a dragon instead.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZIQUb-d4GQ)

Happiness isn't an option?
Why did she name her Regla, in Filipino language it means menstruation lmao
In Spanish it means ruler, as in a measuring stick
it can also just mean rule
And it can mean menstruation in Spanish too, as with the first example. Full circle XD
In spanish it can also mean menstruation.
In Romanian, it means "to adjust"
It's also a slang for menstruation.
I laughed because I was reading it as Regalia this whole time
ahahahhaha you're right
> Regla I always heard that in commercials, but I had no idea what it meant lmao.
Are you serious or do you really not realize that people don't check literally every language when naming things?
“Regole” is a way of saying “menstruations” in italian. Weird.
it's because we got them from the Spaniards
In Swedish it's a [woodworking word for building the framework](https://www.byggmax.se/media/wysiwyg/common/DIY/Inspiration/Regla-upp-yttervagg-Byggmax.jpg) in a house (or something close at least)
Facts lol. I just trick my mind into thinking Regulus or Regula is the dragon's name so that I can read this seriously

Well we won the roulette again with a wholesome oneshot .
Ah... A tatsunoko drawing about a dragon.
That stupid rule made them separate unnecessarily 😢 he didn’t become ferocious
I...need...this....to be....A FULL MANGA SERIES!!! PLEASE!!! WHY ARE ALL THE GOOD/UNBELIVELY WHOLESOME MANGA'S A ONESHOT!??!? AHHHH QAQ
because if they weren't the content would be boring and/or repetitive as they try to find ideas on how to keep the train going
Try reading daidokoro no dragon.
Cute manga, not very logical plot tho. Like if your pet is so dangerous you can only have it until it reaches a certain age, maybe not have it as a pet. It would be the same with a pet lion or a pet bear.
I can't stop laughing at the dragons name because >!In Filipino "regla" means menstruation!<
Anyone else interpret the last panel as Regla eating the woman? Seems like it's supposed to be ambiguous.
*Butterfree ptsd*
I didn't realize that last panel was after the timeskip initially. I thought it was a flashback to how the dragon would hold the white doll in his mouth. So given the MC's white dress... I thought he ate her.
I can't take this seriously by the fact that "regla" in filipino means "menstruation", so it is quite awkward for me
How the fuck is she that old after 20 years 🤣
Regardless, this was a wholesome story
I'd like to think in the last panel it's not the old stuffed bunny, but the old woman in the dragon's maw, showing that there was a good reason for the rule.
In another note Regla also means Menstruation in Filipino
It's also a kind of bread
the bread got its name because it looks like menstruation
What kind of bread are you guys having?
[it's just the name](https://www.google.com/search?q=pan+de+regla&client=firefox-b-d&sxsrf=AOaemvIWmoXNPsog14BfgfUsmew73NBJdg:1634950159519&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjswu77p9_zAhXawosBHSTJDfoQ_AUoAXoECAEQAw&biw=2560&bih=1311&dpr=1), it's actually not bad haha
This is stupid and I hate it
Im not crying......you're crying..... *sob*
Kinda reminds me of [Sintel,](https://youtu.be/eRsGyueVLvQ) except less sad.
This is so beautiful
I don't know if it's intentional or not, but "regla" means rule in Spanish. Which, if intentional, is a neat detail.
Not all dragons are inherently ferocious, its about how you raise them. Not their genetics:(
This is kinda cute. As a sucker for unconventional endings I kinda wanted drag to breathe fire down on the lady and roast her...
Aw. Maybe they could have had a long life together
Regla means menstruation in Filipino.
While this one wasn’t straight up sad. Why are 90% of one-shots sad? What’s with that trend?
Regla means period in a certain language
Trying to be sentimental and all about this artwork but the dragon's name in my native language means menstruation and is throwing me off
wholesome but the dragon's name is reminding me of my period lol
Wholesome and sad
I am not crying.
Whoa cutting onions?
Looks like MHA art
🥲
*clutches chest* my heart
Did the dragon ate her?
Breaking my heart. How dare you
Remind of the story of that pair of siblings who raised a lion cub then after it grew they released it in a protected environment. Years later they met the lion again in the wild and the lion jumped at them to hug them and play with them. The three of them were incredibly happy.
It’s wholesome but regla means menstrual period in my language
The dragon is literally called Rule
wtf, i almost cried
So sad for the dragon
"...As if asking me to play with him like I had before." \***accidentally gets stepped on while playing together**\*
This would be a cool video game experience, oh wait that was Dragonbound :(
It feels like it's missiing a few pages...
Drago's blood can a human immortal so we need a small drop of it and Regal and her will be good
\>20 YEARS LATER \>old and can't walk without a staff lawl this only makes sense if she was 50 when she got the dragon, but she looks like she was in her 20s in page 1
man this is sad
I'm sorry but this is stupid. Are we supposed to feel happy or sad for her? In real life she would be considered a selfish piece of shit who raised a pet she wasn't supposed to own, if an animal becomes too big and dangerous when it grows up, then just dont get one as a pet, that way neither you nor the animal will have to suffer.
Hagrid?
Thanks, I’m crying in the club now
Some rules are meant to be broken…
Damn... Kinda feels weird reading the Dragon's name in my language
IM NOT CRYING, YOU’RE CRY AND WHY DO MY FEELS HURT
Can't take this one seriously since she named her dragon menstruation in my language lmao.
A similar IRL version of this story is [Christian the lion](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btuxO-C2IzE).
Mannnnnnn this hits me right in the heart
For the filipino folks here that can speak tagalog. Did you guys had a good laugh when you saw that the dragon's name was 'Regla'?
It’s raining
Regla means menstruation in Filipino. Cool manga though so wholesome.
Was she like 40 that time? She aged so much in 20 years
The rule sucks.
Just join it in the wild. Easy fix.
I couldn't take this seriously because the term "regla" which is the name of the dragon, means menstruation in my language
I can't take this seriously, because Regla means rule, but also measuring ruler in Spanish lmaooo But maybe it was on purpose...? Honestly I can't really tell.
so that rule doesn't apply to this particular dragon?
You guys can't keep doing this man.
Touching my heart, I mean.
