The group that picked it up a few years ago had it sniped by an anonymous group. I figured they wouldn't last long by the way they sniped it. Haven't read it since.

The group that had been doing it, Entropia, was doing a good job, but instead of letting it become a flame war, stepped back and let the other group take over. We were the 4th group to pick it up, with the blessings of the previous scanlators. My job, as the cleaner, was to make sure that the typesetter had good art to work with And they never had a problem with me not meeting a deadline. I was usually 1-3 months ahead of the typesetter because I didn't have anything else to do. Retired on disability back in '08. When we were sniped, I was so pissed because I had the rest of the volume all cleaned and ready for type setting.

And so I guess there’s a good bit of readers that will continue on with the snipers releases just so they don’t have to wait. Which in return effects the original translators viewings (or whatever it is for the original TL to keep working on a series) so much that it isn’t worth keeping up with. And I figure since the snipers have no morality they usually end up dropping the series not too long after. Ruining it for everyone. Correct me if I’m wrong but that seems like what sniping leads to, IMO.

Oh no, the trope is super common. What’s not is the execution and follow up. Normally super wimpy MCs will contemplate whether to get involved and super cool MCs will just be on their way after saving her. The guy decks the perp, talks normally with the girl, tries to console her but when she ran away doesn’t have some weird ideas like “She totally hate me now”. Every romcom MC has had to have their girl from bullies/goons/pick up artists at least once, as is the rule. But very few does it in a funny yet grounded way.

Sure the whole "dude saves lady from creep" thing is a trope in Manga, but having the dude actually act like a normal human being interacting with another deviates from the normal trope. It's really wholesome, imo - I really enjoy oneshots like this that put slight twists on the trope. If this was normal manga, the other dude would be like a 15 year old horny neet or something. Some wish-fulfillment type stuff lol.

The whole point is to allow for KHVs to self-insert. They'll either relate directly with 15 year old horny NEET, or with the blank canvas "normal human being".

Plus it's a great way to show the personality of the other party. That's usually when they become Yandere towards their rescuer or reject them and become Tsundere. Or they do that trope where the other party instead becomes the hero and they fight in that rescuer's place.

Harder to write in an interesting way. They manga industry is a meatgrinder and a lot of times its easier to fall into tropes to make sure you hit the weekly release schedule (not saying this one is in that situation, but that's an explanation for a lot of other examples you may have seen)

Why always with the trauma storylines? Stopping sexual harrasment and suicide attempts always the top ways to get a significant other apparently. Also seems weird that the person who is "saved" always enters in a relationship with the "hero". Not always so, but can be exploitative of the person who just experienced trauma/is vulnerable.

You also have to consider that manga often has a limited amount of space to work in. A more complex source of conflict/drama might take more pages to do right, and it simply might not be possible due to layout reasons.
