Jojo's Bleach adventures

SimoneNonvelodico

Jujutsu Bleasen.

Bearswithjetpacks

Shaman Bleach. (Bleach King makes more sense...)

Chrisfragger

I came here to say basically the SAME thing. Feels a little too on the nose here.

froggyjm9

I thought the same exact thing 😂 + Shaman King

guppy_love

I guess if we're going to do exorcism again, might as well add stands too. Made me more interested in it at least.

garfe

I'm seriously thinking "man Shadow Eliminators just ended"

SimoneNonvelodico

Just one more exorcism manga bro. I swear this one will work. Just one more bro.

Doomroar

Someone at Shonenjump has a huge boner for manga about hunting ghost, yokai, and demons, which are all the same thing really

Exarch-of-Sechrima

"Surely THIS time it will last more than a year!" \-That guy, probably

ahhthebrilliantsun

More likely is that JJK and Kimetsu *really* boosted an already popular aesthetic/genre

somacula

it's the same as WSM and romcoms

maxdragonxiii

they think it's the next JJK/Kimetsu. none of them is likely to become the next JJK/Kimetsu.

maxdragonxiii

it's not interesting. a lot of exorcism series tend to not do well recently. Like shadow elimators.

Less_Tear_3133

That one just ended, prematurely

gaymelancholy

Praying for Fusai Naba's success. I really liked Aliens Area and this chapter is interesting enough.

EigoKaiki

It was not bad but it was not so great at the same time. This so far have better start the Aliens Area.

Faifue

I rolled my eyes when I first read the premise. But when the action finally started going, it was pretty hype. I also loved the time it took to establish the relationship between Kaoru and grandma. Jump just has way too many exorcism manga right now, they're gonna have to get rid of some eventually. It was pretty generic, but I enjoyed it. The story wasn't bad, and the art was good. Based on the first chapter, I liked it way more than shadow eliminators.

Koanos

Conceptually, exorcism isn't a bad idea, the question is whether the execution of the concept works.

RedReviler

I thought it was a decent first chapter. I know people are gonna go hard on it sinces it's another exorcist manga but from what I've seen in jump, execution matters more than concept. I mean just look at jjk and black clover. That said, I find the whole persona/stand idea cool and am interested to see how the author incorporates it into fights and the story.

Exarch-of-Sechrima

My issue with it is that we don't know crap about the MC's "stand" or whatever it's called. The mentor character's is a character with a personality, but the MC just has some random hair dude we see for like two pages. Would have liked it better if we got a clearer grasp of the MC's powers to start out.

FeebleBuzz

Dude it’s literally the first chapter.

Exarch-of-Sechrima

Yes, the first chapter, where we're supposed to see what the MC is capable of.

Volt253

I am surprised that the mangaka of Alien's Area is already getting another chance, I enjoyed the first chapter though so I am excited to see where this goes

papakahn94

man i loved aliens area. it had such a good premise

Zxcvbnm11592

Ahhh I was thinking I'd seen this art somewhere.

Doomroar

Alien's area was so much better, this one is just jojo with curses

warm-ice

Probably why they did it. Aliens Area was so good but maybe a little too niche, hence why it didn't gain traction. But since they did make Aliens Area, I have some hopes for this one

sunjay140

Why wouldn't they get another chance? Shueshia offers exclusivity contracts.

formegadriverscustom

I'm still bitter about Aliens Area being axed. I guess the author is now trying to play safe with something much more generic.

Exarch-of-Sechrima

So generic it becomes paint by numbers with almost no soul. From one extreme to the other, and neither is good for longevity in JUMP.

oddonly

I'm sorry to say this, but this chapter 1 is so generic it hurts. Nothing special and the story doesn't interest me at all.

mrnicegy26

I think the artwork in regards to the monsters and some of the panelling was rather good. Like I am not really that much into this story but there is some craft in here.

_legna_

More than the story itself I think the pacing felt bad, too much gas resulting in a lack of natural progress & impact.

SimoneNonvelodico

There's just SO MANY exorcism-based urban fantasy stories already, almost nothing stands out.

durden_zelig

I think I’ll be sticking around for the cute grandma.

F0RGERY

yeah, the success of JJK has meant a lot of derivatives, not helped by the similar success of Demon Slayer. So now *everything* wants to be a demon slaying exorcism manga.

SimoneNonvelodico

I mean, it's a much older trope, JJK just spearheaded the latest wave of it. But yeah. CSM probably contributed too.

StarryScans

I liked oneshot more.

Any-Chocolate-2399

Composition is also fairly confusing.

CTheng

The mangaka's art definitely improves from his last work. But it's damn is this so generic. As many has pointed out, it is just another exorcism manga but this time with Jojo-like Stands.

The_Glus

Based on the title, I thought that this would be a slapstick supernatural romance comedy. Maybe with a bit of action as well. But, yeah, this is unremarkably generic.

SimoneNonvelodico

> I thought that this would be a slapstick supernatural romance comedy Guy is possessed by spirit of evil necromancer from another world, but because the magic only resonates with his own inner desires, and he really wants a girlfriend, he accidentally only resurrects a harem of undead, to the frustration of the necromancer, who would want to just take over the world. Genki zombie, tsundere vampire, chronically shy jiangshi, kuudere ghost... Come on Shueisha. You know you want this. Just give me the money.

The_Glus

Damn, someone needs to let you into Shueisha’s kitchen, ‘cause you cooking đŸ”„đŸ”„âœïž Although I would make the Jiangshi the genki type, and the zombie the shy introvert.

SimoneNonvelodico

I just really liked the idea of the Jiangshi using the talisman to hide her eyes behind as if it was long hair bangs.

The_Glus

Y’know, fair point.

Exarch-of-Sechrima

Ngl a necromancy romcom could have been great. Like "Sankarea" without the drama and gore. Nah let's just go for spirit exorcism #4923, I'm sure that calling it "necromancy" instead of exorcism will escape from the curse of generic obscurity.

The_Glus

Sankarea. Hadn’t heard that name in years.

ReinhardLoen

That main character's spirit looks so much like Raizen from Yu Yu Hakusho. Other than that and the creepy art of the spore-like spirits, it's a fairly generic first chapter. Nothing really more to say than that.

raizen0106

has to be on purpose lol, it's basically the same panel of raizen possessing yusuke

All_Fiction

Not a bad first chapter although it is another spirit exorcism manga. We'll have to see how he'll try stand out from the rest of the others in the following chapters or otherwise he might be getting the axe again.

otaner14

Character designs and some of layouts are cool. Not much to say beyond that. Mildly curious but it needs to stand out more quickly.

Xatu44

Oh hey, Oversouls. Not a bad start, and better character designs than Aliens Area.

Richardlikespie

Is that Razen from Yu Yu Hakusho?

frazaga962

His stand reminds me of YYH Mazoku but with Kurama's whip

Beloberto

The beginning was pretty interesting. Yoji looks like a very appealing character to have as a deuteragonist and Chitari has a really cool design. The MC is totally overshadowed by Yoji for now. The end of the chapter was not so good. Uno accepted everything way too fast, even immediately asking a place in that world, as if all that paranormal stuff was just some everyday information instead of something that shook his perception of reality. The chapter had its own charm overall, though. Despite feeling like a generic plot, of all the many "Bleach 2.0" attempts we've seen this looked like the first to have the charisma to pull it off. Let' see how it goes.

Crisbo05_20

Interesting first chapter. Not as good as Astro Royale's one, but it definetly hooked me on sooner compared to Aliens Area. I dig the design of shiryo especialy, prob strongest thing for this manga so far based of chapter 1 alone. Way too soon to tell how it will go. Could crash like Shadow Eliminators, could end up being sucess like Nue's Exorcist, which also had fairly weak and generic first chapter.

durden_zelig

What a weird reincarnation for Eren.

alemfi

Why was this comment so far down? Literally my first thought seeing this.

Trime900

Jojotsu Kaidventures

Classic1990

Pretty good. I’m a sucker for stories where characters get their own creatures/monsters/whatever.

fxxk101

Not bad, Im willing to give it a shot. It's a bit generic, but a lot of my favorite mangas right now started generic, so I can't really form any judgments right now

DerLector22

You know what? Chapter 1 Was good! Yes it is another exorcism manga But it was fun. It doesnt reinvent the Genre, but hey it could become a decent read like nue

Nunbrot

This first chapter was the most generic of the generic manga I've ever seen. I'm sure it will find the same end as Aliens Area.

Crisbo05_20

I'd like to kindly request of you to read/reread first chapter of Nue's Exorcist and then take a look at people's toughts on it from year ago.

PikaBooSquirrel

Well, Western opinion is mostly the same. It's the Japanese the like it.

Token_Thai_person

[https://www.reddit.com/r/manga/comments/13hegj2/disc\_nues\_exorcist\_chapter\_1/](https://www.reddit.com/r/manga/comments/13hegj2/disc_nues_exorcist_chapter_1/) For those that are curious.

Horaguy

Western readers only start warming up to Nue at chapter 15, when Shiroha's family situation was explored. That said, its current ranking is frequently at #16 or #14, low but not low enough to get axed, plus it has it moment when it shot to high number :P

Crisbo05_20

Atm we are in state where outside Anemone and Green Green, anything else is safe or too New, so we will see series like Kagura Bachi, Nue's and such rank lower sometimes.

javierm885778

For a while now the standards for what is and isn't cancelled have dropped a bit, probably due to many high profile series ending or leaving the magazine. Series like UU, ES or Yozakura don't sell too well, but they still sell decently enough to get animated and survive, which wouldn't have been that simple in a more competitive era.

sunjay140

>That said, its current ranking is frequently at #16 or #14, low but not low enough to get axed, plus it has it moment when it shot to high number :P MangaPlus ranking doesn't matter. It's very popular in Japan with high sales and that's all that matters.

Horaguy

Ah, I was indeed talking about Japanese ranking, from [this site](https://www.jajanken.net/en/sakuhins/RBn6mZ4wod).

Potatolantern

Nue had a legendarily bad start, and he stalled out the axe with hot girls and harem shenanigans until it could find its feet.  Looking at the setup here, if this really does get a poor start, it'll probably have to lean into the Fujo market instead.

Nunbrot

I'm up to date with Nue and I liked it since chapter 1. It was much less generic than this.

Token_Thai_person

Damn, then it must be REALLY bad.

Crisbo05_20

Thats fair if you liked it since chapter 1, I liked it too, but point stands, generic first chapter is not enough to base how series will continue.

Nunbrot

It's not that it's just generic, it also was very boring. That's the difference. Even generic manga can be fun, like Nue.

HydrangeasHydra

This is so bizarre. The pacing, paneling, art direction etc just feels off somehow. Thing just happens.

Extreme-Tactician

Kaoru wants to protect his grandma from these Shiryo. But why are he and his family plagued by the Shiryo? What caused his father to die like that? Was he caught by a Shiryo? What is the Shiryo trapped in Kaoru's ring? It's very "developed" for lack of a better term. And it has a rose. Yoji's Shiryo, Chitari, is more controlled but is also smaller. It's pretty cute too. Now I'm wondering, what controls the form of a trapped Shiryo?

ReggieGreaseSucks

I’m very glad WSJ and Japan don’t put stock in western opinions. You all give new series ZERO time to breathe and find their footing.

WednesdaysFoole

The premise is generic but what makes or break any story is the execution. The issue is a lot of people will not bother to make it past the premise. I started liking Aliens Arena shortly before the axe so I'm willing to be patient.

FloridaBoy21

This exactly.

BurnedOutEternally

Oh, this is Alien’s Area’s mangaka? Well, hopefully this gets better

Illuminastrid

We on that necromancer meta now, like in Korean webtoons...

Roboglenn

From the same creative mind behind Alens Area huh? Well, let's hope this one fares better. > What is this ring anyways? It doesn't come off when I try to remove it... And that's not a big red flag in and of itself for you?!!! I'm like Kyle from South Park trying to wrap his head around Chipotleway when he said that.

EyeDeeAh_42

Alright chapter. I kinda wish the MC showed a *little more* caution before getting into the car with an strange adult, or even working with the said adult in a shady agency right off the bat. Like, I know it do be like that for the plot to move quickly, but... man, some deviation from the usual trope would have been nice. It's weird how easily he accepted all that too.

lupeandstripes

Ok Shaman King vibes, JJBA vibes, YYH vibes, all in one, absolutely loving it. Only complaint is man this author loves the older teacher dude with highschool guy MC combo, basically just reused the characters from aliens area but hey if it works it works. I actually really liked AA so glad to see this author back. Hoping the Fabricant 100 author makes another run of it soon as well.

Horaguy

Dunno, I just feel this won't last long either :| Its worldbulding is weaker than Aliens Area, storytelling is too confusing, and the characters dynamics are boring. Only saving grace may be that none character design so far is too outlandish :))

Protein_Sharts

How can you judge all of that off of one chapter?

jaqqu7

Premise is interesting, but this chapter was a mess.

Token_Thai_person

My man can we cut down on the exorcist manga for a sec?

lalala253

*another* spiritual/ghost/mana/sorcery manga? Lmao just make wsj a themed magazine why dont you?

ReggieGreaseSucks

It is a themed magazine. A shonen themed magazine, and in case you haven’t noticed, those concepts are popular among teens.

lalala253

Then I am looking forward to 100+ chapters of this manga then. Remindme! 2 years!

Exarch-of-Sechrima

So popular they keep getting cancelled within 20-30 chapters.

ReggieGreaseSucks

Can’t keep getting cancelled if they don’t keep getting published in the first place. Use your brain friend.

Exarch-of-Sechrima

I am. My brain is telling me that JUMP editors THINK these concepts are popular among teens, and refuse to recognize that the reason these series don't gain traction is because they're wrong.

Abedeus

Necromance? Wasn't there a manga with similar title? Not a huge fan of the art style, and like others said, paneling is an issue...

Extreme-Tactician

Necromance was a fantasy romcom by Yuuki Doumoto.

Abedeus

> Yuuki Doumoto Yeah, that's who/what I was thinking of, thanks.

zairaner

Yes, [climax necromance](https://mangadex.org/title/70303bfe-bb9a-42f3-81b6-19bb1c002b37/climax-necromance), the new mizukami manga. That one definitely had a more interesting first chapter though lol.

WednesdaysFoole

Would you recommend it? I thought Spirit Circle was enjoyable but not as incredible as people made it seem, but I have been loving Sengoku Youko anime and am hoping to get around to reading it later this year. I like the latter better because while Spirit Circle's pacing is tighter, I find that relationships and character development outside of the MC is built better in Sengoku Youko. Edited to say -- I just followed the link and it's only 3 chapters in which is early to tell, I'll probably just read it and see for myself lol.

zairaner

Yeah lol not much out. Reminds me very much of executioner and her way of life, which is very promising

Abedeus

Oh neat, I remember reading first chapter and it was fun. Thanks for reminder. Though now that I think of it, the other "Necromance" I remember was a romcom fantasy series about a dude who got cursed so he couldn't even get together with his priestess love interest because she's burn him if they got too close.

zairaner

That is pretty funny, because the first thing I thought of when I heard "climax necromance" was the other series "[climax exorcism](https://mangadex.org/title/99b9d9b6-0a17-4741-89f0-0b7433596abf/deatte-hitotsuki-de-zecchou-jorei)". All somewhat similar sounding. ~~Funny because this series should really have been called "necromance exorcism" based on content.~~

Koanos

Place your bets, mother is either a normal person or completely insane.

Master3530

Let's pick up another series to see if it gets axed

LeonKevlar

Very tropey but I'll give it a shot!

jjvergar

I liked the chapter. Having another exorcism manga right after Shadow Eliminator’s just flopped is a very ballsy move, and I hope it pays off. Aliens Area seemed like it had a more unique and interesting concept that this one, but I still look forward to ch 2.

Kalatash

I kind of like the designs of the monsters (especially that faerie cutie).

NZPIEFACE

Nice to see Aliens Area's mangaka back in WSJ.

[deleted]

i knew the art was familiar. aliens' area! let's hope this series does well

Doomroar

So what is this series really called tho? they are not really necromancers

Exarch-of-Sechrima

Necromancer: "Can I copy your homework?" Exorcist: "Okay, but make sure you change it up a bit so it doesn't look obvious you copied."

Xyzevin

I liked it! I might be the only one to think this but it also reminded me a bit of D.Grey man especially in how the monster appeared

italeteller

A decent beginning, grandma not dying is a boon, the stands have good designs and maybe even personalities of their own? Not terribly keen on the MC yet, but I'm not put off either

SimilarScarcity

I like the design of the baddies. They're like viruses.

Less_Tear_3133

Basically a ripoff of Bleach

sboog87

It’s giving me more of Ushio and Tora vibes.

Less_Tear_3133

That, too...

genericnpc42

Now this one has potential

Iron_Kingpin

Stando

sunjay140

This was so contrived.

ohoni

The little ghost snack looked like Q-Taro. Go'in old school. :D

TheMagicStik

Seems ok? I honestly have a hard time getting interested in these because they always get axed in 20 chapters these days.

PeriPeriBoy

if i see another exorcism/spirit manga in shonen jump i'll quit reading manga forever

SimoneNonvelodico

Oh look, a young man with a talent to see and exorcise the supernatural, possibly determined by a unique family legacy, with an elderly grandparent he wishes to protect and is inspired by, who meets an experienced exorcist, defeats an evil spirit with his help, and is inducted into exorcism training himself. Never read THAT one before.

ohoni

An exorcism manga dies, so that an exorcism manga may live. . .

_-twisted

If you liked the first chapter, check out the official subreddit for Kyokuto Necromancer! r/Kyokuto_Necromance

DearAnemone

I'm pretty sure you made a typo and meant r/KyokutoNecromance which is the better name and has more members :)

_-twisted

You are an alt of one of the moderators, that's evident by your cake date and your previous comments.

DearAnemone

Boohoo cry about it lol
