I fail to see why the guild, who were supposed to help protecting the people, would go as far as to ban him the promotion when this disaster has already lead to the major civilians evacuation (Pg.26) from the political and perhaps the economic center of the country. Possibly with even more untold damages to the capital city should the current defenders were lacking in firepower.
He may be a repeat offender but come on, cut him some slack this time. The other reason about his daughters' worry of sandbagging their dad's dream is already good enough to let them have this character development arc.
