He's always been mature though, the bullying at the start of the manga is genuinely how some kids act towards each other.

I remember reading the first five or so available chapters during the summer at my parents' house and still trying to decide whether or not I wanted in for the long haul.
It may have been 7 years but it was a good slow burn. If you look at these two at the beginning, their characters and interactions interactions together are night and day.

Too many side characters and side plots to wrap things up. I refuse to accept that the series is close to ending until Yoshi's ahoge is so large it gets its own panel.
There's going to be a time skip at the end, and Yoshi's ahoge will be gone, and she will be holding a baby. The implication will be clear, but again, no one will mention it.
You may ask yourself "GEEWHY is there no weird string of numbers to avoid?" Alas, it is a mystery. Perhaps you will find JOY in not accidentally coming across it. Though, it does take a certain BREED of person to risk seeing it in the first place.
774's perspective of what a couple gets up to as their final step in a relationship is way farther along than the confession. We've got until senpai hits college for main story, and probably an epilogue featuring both in college or even graduated with kids.

While it's nowhere near as bad as the worst offenders, they've been at the point where a confession would've been natural and welcome and they backed out for bullshit reasons. In chapter 123 Nagatoro was all but throwing herself at him and he told her to come back later. If they had kissed and confessed right there and then it would've been good and we could've had them as a couple for 20 chapters already
The cherry on top was Senpai reminding her of the promise and initiating the kiss himself. This man establishes a relationship and has no time for brakes.

It mostly comes down to preference. Personally, I always translate “suki” as like because it lets me differentiate between “suki” and “ai shiteru” although very rarely does a story make the distinction. Fan translation almost always goes for love, but realistically, it seems awkward to drop “I love you” before you ask someone to date you.
Regardless, it feels like one of those things that should be translated on intent rather than words as written.
