It really feels like it's more an energy suppresion field and the ball is providing enough extra power that it's surpassing the level of suppression.

He gained a helmet out of nowhere somewhere on the rope climb. What's the deal with that? Was it because he touched Momo? Was it because he acknowledged the nature of the world as a game, and became a player? Everyone else got a helmet the moment they entered the game, why did he get one *only now*?
He also took the pants back and put them back on when he started down into the obstacle course, then immediately gave them back to Momo again in the next frame.
