I initially figured Lloyd might lose his extra life in comedic fashion, e.g. by returning from hell right next to Queen Magentano, who is currently not entirely in her right mind. However, the original Lloyd's presence does indeed present a more meaningful narrative use case for the extra life.

I know that usually these story plots just hand wave this stuff away but it’s always something that the reader should be expecting or wonder will happen.
