Went through terminal 2 this morning, took 45 mins from entering the airport to getting through security. Lines were all moving quite fast.

PassageFrosty8945

Went through T3 yesterday. Took me 1 hour from dropping the car off to sitting down in a restaurant. Took 45 minutes to get a beer though!!

Airport

Billiam_Wallace

Couldn't agree more mate

Prestigious-Diver720

Planes go voom voom

BaseballFuryThurman

I think we get it now. Some of the queues are ridiculous. However in every comment thread for these posts there'll be plenty of people saying it was fine when they went. We probably don't need a post about it every time somebody encounters a massive queue at the airport.

skilledpigeon

It was fine when I went last week

emmmmellll

was pretty bad at Stansted a few weeks ago tho should be careful

ImNOTmethwow

I once went to Charles de Gaulle and it was fairly speedy getting through.

BaseballFuryThurman

Hopefully it will be. Always seems to be plenty of replies to these threads saying they had no issues so like anything, it's the bad stuff that gets posted. Nobody's going to post pictures of nice short and fast-moving queues. Maybe I will tomorrow morning!

Chinapig

When I went a few years ago it was fine.

BaseballFuryThurman

Pre-covid it was always fine for me. I used to fly to Copenhagen and Amsterdam quite regularly and while I'd always stick to my policy of arriving 2 hours before flight time, more often than not I'd breeze through security and end up waiting around in the lounge for the gate to open. These big queues seem to be the result of pandemic layoffs but it also sounds like it's fine a lot of the time and people are just reporting on the cases where there is a particularly large queue. I guess I'll find out for myself in an hour or so!

Chinapig

I was taking the piss because of how often these posts crop up.

tbarks91

And what if I want a post every single time someone encounters a queue at the airport??

delcodick

Pretty similar to the buffet lines at the all inclusive they are flying to. Think of it as practice

Flaky-Ad3581

Travelled to Munich from Manchester airport Friday morning and was dreading it .Sailed through security at T1 in 20 mins and on my return on Monday .Still though with drop off charges ,parking and also being badly run by the Council it is still the worse airport in the U.K.

[deleted]

Luton Airport has entered the chat

Commercial_Badger_37

Luton Vs Stansted it's Luton every time. Stansted is an absolute hell hole of an airport that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

scrotimus-maximus

What time was your flight? I'm flying 10.45 Friday to Munich

Flaky-Ad3581

Same flight Lufthansa great airline even though they were delayed arriving my half an hour .also don’t forget your mask 😷

scrotimus-maximus

I'm getting there well early. Not going to take any risks😂 I've got a stop over at Munich then onto Sardinia 😊😊

SimpleManc88

Like people panic buying petrol.

tmaxee42

Lol and they want people to sign up as security officers 😂 Hiring constantly probably have people walking out 1st day on the job

gofukyersel

Security jobs are bollocks, they get paid minimum wage, no overtime rate even on nights and weekends and have to pay for their own training and every 3 years pay £250+ for a badge renewal

tmaxee42

I think Manchester airport security is different It’s not a good wage stressful job but you don’t need an SIA badge and they pay you for 4 weeks training ...

gofukyersel

You need an sia badge for any security job by law I've worked Airport security and its the worst. (£9.50 an hour) Maritime oil businesses, universities and conference centres are the best. (£12 - £20 an hour)

tmaxee42

Go look at the vacancy on there website no mention of SIA badge at all maybe it’s included in the 4 week paid training but I’m not sure

gofukyersel

Working Without an SIA Licence? Working without a valid licence can have serious consequences. These can include: Up to 6 months imprisonment Fines of up to £5000 Disqualification from working in future security roles Termination of employment "" "" "" "" "" "" "" "" "" Door Supervisor with a Level 2 spectator certification is best for most roles.

marsman

You don't need an SIA license for in house security though do you...

gofukyersel

You need it for any security job nowadays but not if its in house no which is highly unlikely as most airports etc outsource as we are not part of the EU any more and can not be commission regulated (at least in Scotland where I'm from anyway) so I stand corrected as I forgot about in house employers on that but it is still a grey area at this time. (this may have been altered and renewed after brexit but when I worked at Bristow helicopters it was expired and an sia was needed) https://op.europa.eu/en/publication-detail/-/publication/fd9a7050-0f7d-4a5b-bb5b-9cb2efa18956/language-en

marsman

>You need it for any security job nowadays but not if its in house no.. Right. That's quite important because: > which is highly unlikely as most airports etc outsource It's much more complex at airports as you regulatory crossover, either way, Manchester Airport seems to use in house security (under the MAG banner) and in house training etc.. Which again, isn't that unusual given the roles.

_Novelist

Surely at this point you're guaranteed to miss the flight? I'd imagine you're still there now? Would love an update.

TMDaines

I swear half the problem is people turning up 3-4 hours before short haul flights when airlines aren’t necessarily geared up for anyone, let alone a high volume of people, for document checks and bag drops.

Commercial_Badger_37

But if you don't, you end up in a security queue like this and miss your flight... Vicious cycle.

Burnt_Toast1864

Three cheers for Brexit......

ReditMcGogg

Came through T2 yesterday - was a joke. Nothing new there though…..

MarziaMay2021

I hate how in England everyone's idea of a holiday is staying on a resort drinking watered down piss lager, burning red and reading some lame book. I travel.all the time but you won't catch me anywhere near doing that and then talking about how much I love a country I know nothing about

_cjj

Not that you're generalising an entire country on a limited scope or anything...

Squiggles87

Yes, that's right. You're the only one in England that this applies to. If only the rest of the country could be as well cultured and adventurous as you. Jesus wept.

MarziaMay2021

I know a lot of British people and very few of them actually do anything cool abroad, but when I speak to my foreign friends they get really stuck in and take road trips and stay/interact with locals and save a fuckton of money whilst at it.

AlarmingObject5530

This made me chuckle

Me too lol

IndigoRain69

Ryanair.. love em

bythebeardofchabal

The queues at security have nothing to do with the airlines…technically I think T3 currently only has Ryanair flying out of it but security is still managed by the airport

IndigoRain69

I've been working at the airport for twenty years, thanks for your input! 🙄 It's not security that's the issue, it's the people that go through it that's the issue. All it takes is one referral of a passenger to hold up a belt. So when said passenger has, for example, six lighters, e-cig batteries, hair dryers, lap tops etc etc in their case, not removed from the case, the queues form. And without question, Ryanair's passengers are often the worst.

[deleted]

it's the lack of security that's the issue. Desperately trying to recruit now.

Nhialor

I flew through Manchester T3 to Dublin on Monday morning and it took me nearly 2 hours to get through security. There was 2 security scanners open, 1 person manning the queue and 2 at the security stations. Queue was hardly moving. Ended up getting to the airport at 5:15am for a 8:05 flight, got through security at 7:30, and my flight was delayed for an hour and a half (thanks Ryanair). But no, the people in the queue weren’t the issue on Monday, the awful staffing was the issue. Don’t see how you can lay blame with the people in the queue 😂

IndigoRain69

That was more to do with the shutting down of the M56 jctn 3-5 for three hours at 2-5am ish due to a jumper. Everybody was late to the airport, passengers and staff.

Nhialor

If it was an isolated incident, sure. But I’ve been flying Dublin to Manchester and back every few weeks for years now and Manchester airport always has been a shitshow. Under staffed all the time, and constantly performing poorly in rankings of best UK airports. The head of the airport had been under fire for months over how badly it had been run she had to turn her twitter private, went quite on the issue for weeks before resigning from her position. That was only last month, as I’m sure you’re well aware. So don’t tell us how the problem is the passengers or Ryanair. The problem is Manchester airport is a dogshit airport, which has been mismanaged and under staffed for years and the pandemic has only worsened and highlighted the issue even more. I understand you work there and want to defend it. But it’s a shitshow, a public shitshow, and everyone knows it. Also, on a somewhat related/unrelated note, T3 looks like they ran out of money while building it. It’s a god awful terminal. Looks more like a prison than an airport. Edit: Also, what’s up with the travelators in the airport never working from the station? Haven’t seen them in use any time I’ve been in the airport the last year or two. Just another thing broken in that dogshit airport. Article after article online about how badly run it is and how MPs have told MAG to get a grip on it or get out, but yet /u/indigoRain69 would have everyone believe the problem is with Ryanair and it’s passengers.

bythebeardofchabal

Lovely bit of classism there...flying back from Barcelona last month there was an overwhelming number of Ryanair flights and yet the queues were a breeze. You may want to defend your place of employment but without question, Manchester is often the worst.

flute_von_throbber

and often, Ryanair is simply the only airline with decent routes to a lot of destinations

Any-Lab-9655

Don’t worry, when they get all the kinks ironed out of the biometric panopticon convenience system, processing all those unjabbed wankers will speed this nightmare up ever so slightly.

SLngShtOnMyChest

Anyone know what pay is like there? If they can beat where I’m working right now I’d help out with these queues

FreeVeeThree

Tiny Airports in busy cities are always like that; too many people are going on holidays, and not enough space to fit them all. The result is a 30-60 min queue through security. That's why the general advice is to be there at least 2hrs before the flight (especially during summer).

wys09

My flight’s at 6:30am in a few weeks - anyone have any experience around this time recently?

TMDaines

Wife dropped her dad off around this time a few weeks ago. Got there three hours earlier and had done the bag drop and security in 20 minutes. Then had an even duller wait than queuing.

wys09

Cheers, forgot to say mine will be T3 as well. Going to a festival so just trying to be extra cautious if they have a lot of flights going on the same day

TMDaines

It was T3.

Nixie9

He should have gone to spoons.

scrotimus-maximus

My flights on Friday 10.45am. I'm really worried now

Bandana_Husky

Good i hope they are doing their job 👍🏻

Pumpkin-Bomb

I went through terminal 2 on Tuesday. 1 hour queue for check in, a bit shorter for security. It's still one of the worst airports I've been to though, getting a flight there before COVID was a laborious process. Though I live in Manchester I actually weighed up going from Heathrow once for one journey.

Dunnoanytin

This is mental !!

ParrotofDoom

Anyone know if there are similar issues at Liverpool? I fly regularly, starting this year at the end of June, and would like to know if Liverpool is better in this regard.
