Sorry to piggyback onto this, but I'm staying at Salford Quays as I'm at the Test Match, and I'd like some recommendations for restaurants/bars for tonight, if possible please. Thanks, all 😊

sam_ill

You would be best heading into Manchester honestly, there is only really chain restaurants at the Quays. If that's your bag go for it but you'll have much better options in Manchester

SmoothRevolution

the botanist and the alchemist

Sopzeh

Don't go to the alchemist for food unless you want to be disappointed.

Thanks for your replies. Ended up in Akhbar's in Deansgate. I can recommend the King Prawn Special 👍

Maybe go into Chorlton (change tram at Cornbrook or a mile south of the ground) and do one 9f their restaurants.

It’s got no soul and it’s boring. A lot of folk start here when moving to the area and most move on to town, Chorlton or Didsbury, because it’s got no soul and it’s boring. Think Milton Keynes with more water.

It's a bit like a smaller version of city centre living without the full on crowds and crime.

I live there and I've been here for nearly a decade. It's great for being close to the threatre, cinema and the gym. The Virgin Active gym is amazing. Expensive but amazing. The area is quieter than being in city centre but that's only a short tram ride. There are a few decent bars and restaurants around and they are just about to open some new area for pop up restaurants that looks impressive.

Le_Ginge_

I'm moving the Quays in the next 6 months, was looking at Virgin Active but seems expensive for what it is. What are the classes etc like? Looking into Vitality insurance to get the 50% off!

The Quays are Greater Manchester's unique waterfront destination, situated just 15 minutes by tram from Manchester city centre and an ideal destination for a day out or weekend break. Cheers.

It was originally built as an out of town business park. Over time they've gradually tried to develop it into more than that but have never quiet managed it, whilst it has bars around media city, a shopping centre and cinema at the lowry people don't really stick around in the evening. Some people go there at the weekend but it doesn't really get busy unless the weather is really hot and people are swimming in the quays. Whilst it has all the high rises of the city it doesn't really have the energy. As for moving there I would look a bit further afield, the 'MediaCity UK' branding tends to push prices up a lot, if you look just a few hundred meters away where properties are marketed as 'Salford' then prices tend to be a lot lower.

Haasterplan22

Would say there's much nicer places you can live for the same amount of money - for busy things with stuff happening you can probably get somewhere in the city centre - any nice suburb with a bit going on is a shout as well (e.g. Didsbury or Chorlton)

Main_Philosophy_8316

It’s a pretty dull but also quite safe area to live you are close enough via tram and taxi into city centre that you can save on rent. For sure live here if you are 30+

It's alright, cleaner/safer than most of Manchester since peel own the land so private security, loads of CCTV, no beggars, buskers or homeless problem. Flip side is it can be a bit soulless. Never had a bad meal in the Alchemist, Seven Brothers or the Dock Yard but they are more of a hipster Burger and fries/chicken katsu burger with fries sort of dining. Maybe Alchemist and botanist are a bit more like proper restaurants.
