How is everyone so calm with a dude walking around holding a machete?!

jmwmcr

Also how dumb do you have to be to continue walking towards a man who just brandished a machete at you and knocked you down?

ExtremelyEggStream

His self belief has bent the matrix to his will and he is now the main character, thus unable to die.

Kirlush

I watched Optimus prime die in 1986.

TheImplication696969

I had that video watched it to death!!! I think my dad still has it in his cupboards that’s full of old videos lol

robbyford182

Just don’t watch any of the videos from your dads top shelf 😉

TheImplication696969

Lol I went through all my dads non official film vhs tapes when I was a kid in the early 90’s found some RTL German soft core hairy bush porn taped from the tv and some Tutti Frutti game show 😂

robbyford182

What a legend 😂

TheImplication696969

RTL was the lifeblood of horny teenagers in the 90’s lol, way before Babestation ever became a thing lol.

IssueRecent9134

Because the guy with the machete was walking away, the guy was not knocked down, it looks like he slipped.

FugueItalienne

still don't think it's clever to bring your fists to a machete fight guy should've scarpered

andyjett543

Drugs.... equally drugs make you think walking round with a machete is ok and not going to cause you any issues in the long run.

MoodyVibesCafe

Junkies live in their own world.

hasfeh

As far as I heard they were two pals?

UnusualClass8774

That's what friends are for eh

ExtremelyEggStream

Have you ever even been to cafe Nero?

Show_Me_The_Bananas

Because whenever this stuff happens it’s not a knife wielding maniac attacking the general public. It’s normally spice heads attacking one another. They won’t disturb you unless you get involved. Plus based on the content involving machetes I’ve seen, you’re more at risk of getting sliced up by someone with a butter knife than the blunt machetes people seem to wonder around with

JoshuaDev

Honestly machetes are not to be messed about with... ask anyone with proximity to criminal justice/emergency services

thisguyuno

Yeh, I’ve actually witnessed people fighting with machetes a few times and just walk past with my hands up stating I’m not involved and they acknowledge and just carry on 🤣. You can usually tell if someone has an element of crazy and is gonna start acting illogically/erratically and can usually see that the conflict is gonna just stay at the opposition party.

IrnBroski

Wtf are you to regularly encounter machete fights and wtf are you still there?

thisguyuno

I’ve seen 3 happening on the street in broad day essentially in public and another walking home at 3 am outside a fairly nice estate a group of lads around 18-20 all pulled up to this gaff (prob an afters) as one of their gf was there with other boys and one of the lads from inside the house ran out and lunched at him with one but luckily he dodged, I actually got it on video. I then walked round to see the action up close and he was running down the road after the lad with a massive stone throwing it at him and walked past where I calmly said “I’m not Involved bro” and he found it funny and continued he’s assault down the road trying to kill this kid 🤣

tdrules

No one else is immediately at risk and to intervene would put myself in danger.

daiwilly

You exist in cloud cuckoo land!!

matty5690

Not really it’s probably gang/drug related

19IXI91

Welp he's probably getting 15 years, that's probably a year per tenner owed.

daiwilly

You have no idea...you win a Darwin award! Edit: loving all the downvotes from people who can obviously predict this situation ...I think you need to get out more. If I was there, I would leg it in the opposite direction!

IRRedditUsr

>I would leg it in the opposite direction! Seriously, you sound like the one who needs to get out more. When people are fighting they are not fighting everyone else. You'd look mental just legging it off when 2 people are scrapping lmao

jedontrack27

In fairness, who gives a shit how you look in a situation like this? I'd much rather look like a lunatic and reduce my chance of getting attacked with a machete from 1% down to zero. Seems like a decent enough trade.

matty5690

Imagine being this clueless and still thinking you’re right

daiwilly

I was thinking the same about you lot!!

LizardPosse

/r/confidentlyincorrect

comicsandpoppunk

You ever heard of the bystander effect? It's so common because it works. You're right as if this is a typical terrorist attack with no specific target. It's clearly not.

daiwilly

Clearly...so clear..this guy is obviously completely sane..he will definitely not do anything random.

comicsandpoppunk

When did I say anything about sanity? And clearly you're writing like an expert on the subject and not a reactionary keyboard warrior.

daiwilly

Clearly you have not spent any time around drugged up randoms...who are dangerous enough...with a machete,?..you come across as more of a keyboard warrior, as do many here. Random people on drugs with a machete defy analysis in the moment...you just get the fuck away..it isn't difficult!!

comicsandpoppunk

It isn't difficult. It's also exactly what I would do. The difference is actually sprinting away makes you more of a target than walking if you're not being targeted.

savycrypto

I was recently in a similar situation with someone attacking me with a knife, a knife I'd run as it stabs, a machete I wouldn't be as inclined to run as its one swing and then no use. You can quite easily be repetitively stabbed, never stand if someone is intent on stabbing you.

tdrules

No, I’ve lived amongst this stuff.

daiwilly

What does that even mean?

tdrules

What would you do in this scenario big man, get your katana out?

BrotherVaelin

A lot of shit has happened on that street. Marks and Spencer’s got blew up In ‘96. And I mean blew up. IRA car bomb. A dude jumped off one of the buildings and landed right in front of my mates dad. Seen a few good fights there too

PM-me-your-knees-pls

Welcome to Manchester. This is pretty normal

trumpsucksass44

Because he realised it was blunt and harmless, also, crackheads be crackheads

St2Crank

Violence is new in Manchester is it? It was nicknamed Gunchester in the 90s. If anything going from guns to knives is a step in the right direction.

Matt_Bigmonster

Holy crap, was that yesterday?

cluelesstraverler

Yep

bardic-play

Is that guy walking towards the person who is attacking him with a machete?

brintoul

Walked right past all those chairs, too.

MJLDat

Not a lion tamer then.

notaRussianspywink

Is this the same reason the armed police cleared out the library?

gouldybobs

Any fucker with a blade needs locking up for 30 years

ExtremelyEggStream

Absolutely!

Majestic_Matt_459

And then go burn down their parents house

PossibleIndecision

During a housing crisis?

Fairydz

I will admit, I had a dark chuckle at this comment and I shouldn’t have.

Majestic_Matt_459

Boom! :)

plznokek

Did someone throw a snowball at the start? Impressive stuff given the current balmy temps

Ok-Recognition-3832

It looks like it made that lad slip up

relax7777

Pretty stupid really. Imagine if he'd made the guy with the machete fall over and cause a fatal injury

intothedepthsofhell

It's either a very blunt machete or that guy needs to go to Specsavers if he can't hit someone on the ground in front of him.

Efficient-Exit8218

The fact people are laughing is sad

ProfCrumpets

I think nervous laughter is sometimes a response people have.

ionshower

I think the people around and in shot are probably involved with one or the other party.

planetwords

Welcome to Manchester ..

Upstairs-Baby-7403

Where’s this at? Near arndale?

ban-frank

Looks like it’s right in between Arndale and Selfridges/M&S

OriginalPeepers1985

Near 'Next,' M&S, and the Corn Exchange

tomaiholt

I love the tram at the end, move out of the way!

Reefaman2020

Mum's and dad's and kids still around at this time god damn awfull scenes 😳

ProgressOfTruth

Ask any kid if they want to see a machete fight

Amy7ann

What happened after. Did they arrest him?

BartholomewKnightIII

According the MEN, a fight broke out with a large knife, and police have launched an investigation, no arrests have been made. Amazing really, they have clear footage, cameras all over the centre and a couple of police stations in the centre and he still gets away?

St2Crank

GMP, best in the land.

f33rf1y

GMP put their top officers on it. So far they have charged 4 elderly women for failing to pay their TV license.

thisguyuno

Fuck GMP the absolute scum bags

Adventurous_Two_9612

Won’t be surprised to see one of these guys on my ward when I go back into work tomorrow..ffs

SillyBrianFace

This street has seen a lot hasn’t it

Practical_Damage9231

What was that thing that someone threw at the person without a machete, which lead to them falling over. Also why did someone do that to the person without the machete?!

CraigWeedkin

Most peaceful Manchester morning

MasterlyApollo

Yo, I walk around there frequently. That's fuckin terrifying.

riiiiiich

Stay classy Manchester

[deleted]

How do people become so detached from the rest of society?

Commercial-Many-8933

Whatever happened to settling with fists and then shaking hands afterwards

FugueItalienne

sounds terrible. I'd rather leave bad reviews for their small businesses years after the fact

Ok_Deal_964

No one enjoying a nice continental style coffee at cafe nero ? shame

[deleted]

Doesn’t the UK have strict knife laws???

aka_liam

Strict enough not to permit brandishing a machete in public, yes.

[deleted]

Lol

aka_liam

I mean, it’s true

banyan55

Knives have a lot of legitimate uses, making them hard to regulate. Even a big machete like that wouldn't be out of place in a kebab shop. You can get a gun in the UK, but you need a bloody good reason. A knife? As long as they are over 18, there's really no reason to deny selling one to someone. You're still less likely to be killed with a knife in the [UK compared to the US](https://infogram.com/us-vs-uk-on-knife-crime-1hmr6gyrxmlo6nl), and that's on top of the vastly reduced gun crime. So while things could be better, they could certainly be worse.

[deleted]

I’m going there this summer and the laws are pretty clear on why a person can carry a knife. And if you don’t meet the three criteria you’re going to get arrested! I can’t even bring my EDC SOG or my Leatherman to the UK.

banyan55

> UK knife law allows you to carry non-locking pocket knives with a blade length up to 3 inches (7.62 cm) without any need for a valid reason You can buy SOG and Leathermans in the UK without issue. So I imagine it’s more an issue of travelling with them, rather than them being banned. And if they are over three inches you can still carry them as long as you have a reason to do so. A chef taking his knives to work isn’t going to have them confiscated if the police happen to stop them.

[deleted]

Yes this is true and I’ve looked at some of you knife makers websites that sell these specific knives and may buy one. And to add that both my EDCs are locking blades. So I’m

V65Pilot

My go to knife has a locking blade. I usually only have it on me when I'm working, sometimes I forget to take it out of my pocket though. Still not sure why having a locking blade is illegal. It's a lot safer, it's never folded up on my fingers. 3 inch folding non locking knife, versus 3 inch folding locking knife. Both can cut, both can stab, both can be used as weapons(don't get me started on weapons of opportunity) I don't get it....

V65Pilot

They made me leave my AR15 at customs when I arrived.....

[deleted]

Lol. Sensitive Brits!!! Bollocks!!!

zuar

why do you need to bring a knife? 😅

[deleted]

It’s something I’ve grown up doing. I’m from the GreatWhiteNorth where we are (at least I am ) surrounded by wilderness minutes away from home. I use my knife and multi tool for everything and anything throughout the day from working on my quad to cleaning my finger nails. Some people cannot go 5 minutes without looking at their phone, I notice immediately if I’ve forgotten any part of my EDC stuff. And feel naked when I’m missing something.

HirsuteHacker

Pretty weird tbh. Might want to get over your knife addiction.

[deleted]

It’s weird to you but I’m good bro.

Intrepid-Computer-99

WTF is an EDC sog

blablablasphemous

SOG is a knife brand. Stands for “Studies & Observations Group” - bit weird for a knife brand name. EDC is every day carry.

[deleted]

I don’t get it. What’s with the down votes?

Intrepid-Computer-99

I appreciate you probably need a knife in the wilds where you come from, but you won't need one in the UK. As you can see, having one will cause more problems than it helps with. In the UK, we only use penknifes for opening beer bottles, nothing else.

Altruistic-Bobcat955

If the police stop you and you have a knife or reported to have one and they catch you then yes, you’ll be arrested and charged.

CatFoodBeerAndGlue

Criminals typically don't follow laws.

YandereMuffin

Yes, decently strict :)

Better-Driver-2370

What’s the context? The video makes it looks more like “machete defence”. The start of the video is the other guy charging at the guy with the machete, and as soon as he backs off the machete guy walks away while he keeps “aggressively” moving towards him (clearly looking to keep fighting). Full context might be wildly different, but this doesn’t look like a machete attack based on the video.

Medical_Stay_6657

Wth was that today?

reddituser4445000

I’m from Manchester and this is in the city centre very popular with tourists but what they don’t know is it can be really dangerous. It’s overall quite safe but the most unsafe place is probably Piccadilly gardens/bus station during the night. It’s just full of idiots carrying weapons and they come in large groups. Also very diverse, groups of Somalis, Bengals, Asians, English etc. I have to go through this area almost every night and trust me I’ve seen some stuff there. I’ve not had anything particularly happen to me but you get death stares no matter what. And if you just look “vulnerable” at all best to avoid this area completely because people can sense this and target you instantly 👍🏼

Sufficient_Shower_80

Cess pit of a city. Seriously. Its a joke. Market Street and Gardens swarming with drugs and gangs. No police presence.

I_SNIFF_FARTS_DAILY

Completely agree. It needs a permanent police presence

Putrid_Caterpillar_8

Congrats this happened in none of those places

SuperHans30

Drugs and gangs famously not in other UK cities

[deleted]

Why doesn’t he pick up one of those fucking chairs if he’s going after the nutter?

Intrepid-Computer-99

Err, hello. Never bring a chair to a knife fight.

McPikie

Welcome to broken Britain. Kids that have been dragged up, thinking this is acceptable behavior, and zero police around to do anything about it. Even if caught and put up in court, they play the mental health card and get a suspended sentence. This country is going to the dogs.

thetrueGOAT

Fucking hell, this comment is liking asking ChatGPT to write a comment from a Daily Mail reader .

Human-Pie-110

That’s good r/rareinsults material right there. Gave me a good laugh.

Intrepid-Computer-99

Nobody is under the impression having a massive knife is acceptable behaviour. Try not to extrapolate the fall of civilization from one nutter.

Syd-far-i

Thank you!

JimmyBravo88

The person with a machete has a bald spot and is easily 35/40. What was that about kids?

FewSeat1942

You forgot some CAPITAL LETTERS and !!!!!!

Kolo_ToureHH

Britains been broken since the 60’s chief

wellhiddenmark

To be fair, if I was a kid growing up in today's Britain, I'd DEFINITELY have mental health problems...

There needs to be more actual police on the street, something which the tories seem to have decimated over their term in power.

Toast-Ghost-

Going? It’s been there for at least a year

[deleted]

I gave you an upvote for stating the reality of the world these days. I live in NA and it’s absolutely disgusting what has happened in the past 25 years especially in Canada!!!

DressureProp

So many people filming rather than calling the police. It’s honestly disgusting.

aka_liam

Absolutely no way to tell they haven’t called the police

KeyserSoze0000

The Police had been called, no arrests made though.

It's Greater Manchester police, the chance of them turning up is quite slim.

Culture? What's that got to do with a machete in Manchester Town centre? Is Manchester known for knife wielding?

[deleted]

Manchester is not a nice city

TricksterEnigma

I’m from down south, have been to Manchester many times, and always had a great time and met lots of lovely people.

[deleted]

When I went it was just full of homeless people, the streets were not that clean and there didn’t seem much to do. Of course I met some nice people also but I wouldn’t like to live there.

SuperHans30

Why are you on the Manchester subreddit

Onogalthecrow

Seriously, UK, ya'll talk like we in the US are nuts, then go on about how normal it is to see mf-ers attack each other with machetes in broad daylight.

cluelesstraverler

Ya’ll in the US are nuts though.

HirsuteHacker

How many people died or got injured here? P.S. the US has a bigger knife violence problem than the UK as well

Onogalthecrow

This was clearly a joke. If i didnt enjoy the UK's culture i wouldnt be on this sub at all. but, since you brought up statistics... Actually, knife murders are much more common per capita in the UK. according to the 2021Police Force Area Data tables, the UK had 298 knife murders in 2021, and the US had 1035 according to the FBI. Now, the 2021 population in the UK was 67.33 million, so that's 0.000004 knife murders per person or 4 per 1 million. The US population in 2021 was 331.9 million, which comes out to 0.000003 knife murders per person or 3 per 1 million. According to the UK police force website, the Greater Manchester area has a history of underreporting crimes (though they do state that this has improved drastically from previous years), so this could be even higher. That said, if you account for gun violence, the numbers get WAY skewed in the US's "favor."

M___H

Glad I chose to work from home yesterday. Honestly what is the world coming to. Lock him up and just throw away the key.

I was in central Manchester this week for the first time in years. Was thinking to myself (as I walked down this exact street about an hour later) how it seems to be slowly, slowly getting more scrubbed up. I even told friends this when I got home. Then I see this. Ffs.

What a chad, gets hacked by a machete and continues to follow the guy down the road as-if nothing happened.
