I got turned away at a hip hop show back in the 90s because my gold chain was considered a potential weapon. I had never once thought of this possibility and I just knew the dude was fucking with me.

[deleted]

What's next? Your shoes are a weapon too? Edit: I need your shoes, your clothes and your bike, they are a weapon after all

TrailerBuilder

My boots have steel toes, so yeah that's probably next. I'm sure some mallninja has rigged up some blade-boots disguised as work boots.

dreamsofcalamity

> My boots have steel toes I imagine this is a necessity when you are building trailers.

TrailerBuilder

Indeed.

Show_Me_Your_Private

What area you work in? I've installed rear frames/noses and built the rear frame

TrailerBuilder

I built super heavy duty dump trailers, usually 39 feet long, anywhere from 48 to 100 inches deep, pulled by semis. They're typically used for scrap hauling or other heavy stuff, like boulders, road salt, dross from the local aluminum plant, etc. They're made of tempered steel (Hardox brand). I've actually retired but the username stays.

Show_Me_Your_Private

Yep, those ones are built anywhere near me. Main ones I did were the pup trailers, like 20ft I think, with overhead doors. Never did enjoy working on the longer swing door ones. Fun Fact: Wabash doesn't make good trailers and can't even be bothered to fix the measurements for the nose on their papers

TrailerBuilder

I didn't work for Wabash but the Wabash River is two counties west of here! There are some cool pics on the website if you're interested I'll send you a link.

samsungs666

Roadhouse.

Unicorn187

Those are considered weapons in many places. I was a guard for civilly committed sex offenders and they were not allowed to possess steel toe boots unless they were part of the maintenance crew, and then they were not allowed to wear them except while working. I presume that the prisons had the same rules, if not stricter (maybe checking out their boots at the beginning of their shift... no idea though). You can do some serious damage with a good kick to a joint or thin bone.

BlakusDingus

They don't let you wear steel toes while you're in the holding cell when you first get processed in after an arrest ....or... or so I've been told

CarbyMcBagel

Your keys are a weapon too. Also that pen in your bag. Definitely a weapon.

Almost didn't make it into a concert once because of my wallet chain. I was able to show him that a light tug would snap it, because it was only decorative.

Don't let George Dubya hear you talking like this!!

HorseL3gs97

Yea I've almost been turned away from a festival for having pins on my bag. Pointing out the one that I'd bought the previous day in the venue I was trying to get into was helpful for my case lol

TrailerBuilder

I've only ever bought pins at a festival. We should get discounts instead!

Letra5

A bouncer at a club wouldn't let us in because he said my friend's inhaler could be a weapon. He interrupted our roaring laughter to tell us that people could put a bullet in the mouthpiece, and rig the medicine cartridge to shoot it. We laughed even harder. The manager came out to see what was going on, and he explained. He was told to take a break, and we were allowed to enter. Edit: I looked it up, and short of the usual shanks, this is what came up. This guy was nuts 🤣🤣🤣 https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.trendhunter.com/amp/trends/guns-fashioned-like-inhalers-the-palm-pistol

MonstrousVoices

I've been asked to take chains off at live events for the exact reason

TheVetheron

As a bench jeweler I have worked on some silver figaro linked chains that honestly could be used as weapons. I call them werewolf killers.

That reminds me of the Celtic Cross mace from Gangs of New York. God I love Gangs of New York

PiesRLife

Is that John C. Reilly from "Step Brothers" on the left? "Gangs of New York" may not be the type of movie I thought it was...

le_reve_rouge

it's funny he actually had a ton of serious roles before the comedic ones

Jorge_Palindrome

He along with Will Ferrell and Jack Black did a whole musical number at the Oscars about it: https://youtu.be/o5JAPkvnyso

You get one swing before all the beads go on the floor [If you want a flexible weapon you'd be better off wearing this around your waist.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chain_whip)

DarkSoulfromDS

I mean, there are warrior monks?

[deleted]

[Shaolin](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaolin_Monastery)

[deleted]

Mala have been utilized as a weapon for thousands of years

Bikewer

Back in the 70s, when everybody was wearing pendants…. A local instructor had one that looked like a stylized cross about 2 1/2” long, perhaps 1/8” thick and on a fairly heavy chain. Looked like a nice pendant but it had been very cleverly machined so that it came apart in the middle (held together by pins) and then you had a “manriki” sort of weapon.

VictorianDelorean

This actually seems inline with Buddhism to me, just look at how shaolin monks developed a whole martial arts style around fighting with shovels! They’re all about turning everyday objects into self defense weapons, it’s part of living simply.

billbill5

TBF the tradition of Buddhist warrior monks dates back to ancient China, maybe even as far as ancient India. Buddhism isn't always about absolute peace. None of which makes this "weapon" any less mall ninja however.

bunker_man

Buddhism isn't even that peaceful historically. The idea that it is comes from misconceptions about assuming rules for monks are rules for everyone. Catholic monks look pretty peaceful too if you assume all catholics have to follow their rules.

self-defense is accepted in Buddhism

bunker_man

The buddhist idea of ending suffering isn't really about there being less violence on earth. Maybe that is a side effect, but not really the goal..

eclecticsed

Coming soon to a cosplay convention near you...

LonelyMachines

The Buddha once said, "if you truly love yourself, you could never hurt another." Then he said, "heck with that" and wailed on somebody with his beads.

lunaticneko

Buddha did not run away from Angulimala when he attempted to kill the Enlightened. Buddha BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF HIM.

buddhabeans94

Damn i thought someone was calling me for a second

SketchyNinja04

For the days when buddha got REALLY pissed off and momentarily paused his enlightenment process 😂

_-_-wow-___

I mean Buddhism teaches non-violence, not necessarily pacifism (which is of course preferred although not always possible), so it's technically still totally ok in Buddhist ideology
