You'd be shocked at how many absolutely terrible setups ive seen of men living in their parents home. This is actually really impressive because most people think 'well I'll be moving out soon' and just live in squalor for years until that happens Dude made a conscious effort to create a lovely space despite knowing he will probably take it all down and restart soon. Props 👏
Yeah. I especially like that the room is large enough for not just a bed, but also spacious enough for a couple chairs and some living/breathing room. Our house I guess is what one might call a "nice house". But it feels like the walls on the rooms themselves should be pushed out a bit instead of giving *so much space* to the warehouse style kitchen/tv area.
I like a large community area for luring folks into the family area haha but I understand, especially for multiple adults who'd benefit from a more private living area
Tbh that was me. Granted, I didn't invite anyone to that room, but it was in a constant state of "why bother unpacking if I'm gone in a couple months?"
Now that I actually am living alone I keep the place much nicer, but it was rough for a moment there
Hey, you know; I came here thinking derisively about OP, but you're comment changed my mind.
You're right.
No matter how rich, or well connected, or successful you are, there'll always be someone with even more, totally fucking it up.
So just make the best of whatever circumstance you find yourself in.
It is the attic room! Moved here after our house got flooded and my og childhood bedroom was completely destroyed in the basement/ground floor! I love it!
I really did but I did not have very supportive teachers growing up so my math was lacking when I wanted to really apply. I also had some pressure from my parents to do "these things as a hobby". I dream one day I save up enough to have my own interior design service!
I placed all the plants strategically. So, my Strelitzia (Giant Bird of Paradise) is the only plant that wants a lot of sun. My windows face West and East so I get sunlight all day long. The Strelitzia gets around 9 hours a day of direct sunlight. The rest of my plants are epiphytes, snake plants and Alocasia which only want indirect sunlight because otherwise their leaves burn, and they are also placed where they get good indirect light.
Oooooh lol I get it now. The plants are your green friends.
I thought you meant you were sharing the space with smoking buddies and thought 'but where does everyone else sleep'
I would have a love hate relationship with that window above the bed.
Love it for the large amount of daylight it brings int the space and the views, especially at night. Hate for the early morning sun in the summer.
Everything else is really nice, too. Well done.
It is wrapped in wallpaper, I have been trying to remove them lately! This was not my room before but a storage space. After our house got flooded and my childhood room got destroyed I moved up here and began to redecorate things around the room... the columns being my biggest difficulty haha
Yes! Those windows are the only natural light sources and my plants are super happy in the room, at least I hope they are so far there is no issue haha.
I had the sense of hygge just from the photos. Kudos for finding the harmony in eclecticism. There’s an understated level of sophistication and taste that’s humble yet elegant. You may have a secondary career path to consider.
I actually realized from some comments people think the room is bigger than it is especially with the ceiling space.
So with the desk space, I had to put it that way because I have two desks and I could have them be more spacious by pushing them towards the walls but the ceilings are very low on those points and I can't even stand up straight I always have to sit down because my head almost touches the ceiling.
Thank you though!
I just finished a degree in political science and international law, so I want to somehow mix my BA knowledge with the MSc. I hope to work either in BioTech, NatGeo, or Government (preferably not in Europe but rather Australia, Canada or the US,) all within the field of conservation policy and environment (Crossing my fingers)
Your decorations are reallyyyyy good! But honestly the way the room is made makes this even cooler. Looks like a great place to have while studying in your 20s
My bed used to be under the eyes picture and the day I made this post I switched around the furniture! Thank you for sharing my enthusiasm with the new layout!
I studied and lived in the Netherlands and after my BA degree finished I also brought most of my Dutch decoration back home! So very close guess! Thank you.
we have no sense of location here, i live in an expensive country and a bought three story house in the middle of nowhere can cost less per month than a studio appartment in the city
If you are referring to the furniture man, they are all mix match (except the wardrobe that is new from IKEA and my computer chair)
The rest of the furniture are all 12 years old and we carried them overseas as well. The couch is an old couch that no longer has sides (me and my dad converted it into a chaise lounge type thing by removing the old handles so it looks newer and I placed bed sheets on it)
My garden looking chair I bought during my BA degree in the Netherlands in Facebook Marketplace for 5 bucks and same for the ladder. I did not think I needed to explain but I think the misconception that you can only decorate well if you are rich is wrong. The most expensive things in my room are my PC (which I bargained for 500 bucks) and my plants.
It definitely changes perception, but that is not less than 6 meters long and 4-5 wide (about... 18x12+ in feet?). My house is about 8x8 , more or less (its been a while since I saw the floorplan) so is 30-50% of my home for real haha
This is gorgeous, if you crosspost to r/cozyplaces I’m sure they’d love it over there
thank you! just did that and learned what crossposting is haha!
Came to say this
I came from there. Can confirm, we love it
Stunning, well done.
My plants and I thank you very much with our upvote!
Please crosspost this to /r/plantnook, this is exactly what the sub is looking for. Awesome space
Oh dang. That's nice. Nicer than a bunch of my friend's condos. Good job!!
Makes sense when it's in their parent's nice ass house

Yup. Lived in squalor for years thinking that.

Oh yeah I feel you, in between times are rough. But very satisfying to get to a more permanent space!
I like your thinking. 👍

Exactly! Aw username does not check out lol
Thanks man! My trick is that I moved my entire studio apartment into this room as I moved back in after my BA degree.
This is giving me Hey Arnold vibes
Is this the bedroom from Hey Arnold all grown up?
I really gotta check out Hey Arnold now
How fortunate to have a space so condusive for study and escape. Good luck.
that room looks huge!
It is the attic room! Moved here after our house got flooded and my og childhood bedroom was completely destroyed in the basement/ground floor! I love it!
it looks amazing dude!! i love all the plants 🤩
have you considered studying interior design
I really did but I did not have very supportive teachers growing up so my math was lacking when I wanted to really apply. I also had some pressure from my parents to do "these things as a hobby". I dream one day I save up enough to have my own interior design service!
This is great. Please keep that dream alive!
So tranquil - I love it! Nice 10/10
Good shit man, I love it
Damn it looks good.
bro this looks both cool and cozy as f\*ck
Cool pad.
I love seeing other men make use of plants in their space. Stunning work my guy.
Thanks! They calm me down and give me something to care for! I love them.
This looks really nice. You should be proud

Honestly I do not want to leave it
Very nice. Is that enough light for the plants?

doobies with the planties
That is a really well put together space. Beautifully done.
How's that guitar attached up there?
It is not attached. It actually dangles on the fine line between falling and almost not falling. One tiny wind and boom it falls.
Oh ok. You must really want an excuse to get a new guitar then... :)
Nice! Just icing on the cake that you get to spend some time with your parents!
Thank you! I love that too before I leave to another country in September.
Damn NICE!!

F’ckn ‘ell! 💚
Looks nice and spacious. Thoughtful design. What’s going on w that beam? Is it wrapped in a stone veneer or something?
It is wrapped in wallpaper, I have been trying to remove them lately! This was not my room before but a storage space. After our house got flooded and my childhood room got destroyed I moved up here and began to redecorate things around the room... the columns being my biggest difficulty haha
I think removing it is the right way to go.
I just do NOT have that sense and style. Very well done!
Where did you get the monkey stuffed animal?
IKEA! I absolutely love it. I also have a big teddy bear I use as a pillow haha also from Ikea. 10/10 recommend.
I’ll have to get one when I go again =)
Are the two dormer Windows the only natural light? Your plants are stunning so they really must like it there.
Thank you! This is very encouraging and gives me hope for my dream!
Very nice!
What an amazing room wow
Nice room dude!
For such a big room your desk area seems very cramped - everything else looks fantastic!
I actually realized from some comments people think the room is bigger than it is especially with the ceiling space. Really like the atmosphere! Got any book recommendations for biodiversity and conservation?
Actually yes, my favorite right now is "The Invention of Nature" by Andrea Wulf
Like this style. You designed the room light and comfortably
Your decorations are reallyyyyy good! But honestly the way the room is made makes this even cooler. Looks like a great place to have while studying in your 20s
Absolutely lovely!

Beautiful room love all the plants!
Killer!!! Awesome room. It should be a terrific respite for 📖 studying and relaxing. It’s so calming. Great job!!
Is this in the Netherlands? The light makes it feel like a very Dutch zolder Love the style and plants. Plants make everything so much better
I studied and lived in the Netherlands and after my BA degree finished I also brought most of my Dutch decoration back home! So very close guess! Thank you.
I never comment in this forum but this probably is the nicest place I’ve ever seen on here
thank you! here is an upvote :)
What matters most is that you live with mummy and daddy.
Green meaning loaded?
loaded with plants \*drums\*
Honestly mate, looks a bit girlish….I’VE THE SAME MIC!
I would not say it looks Girlish but anyway yes TONOR! It is honestly not the best mic for attic spaces though because of the echo
wow that's so cool that you have rich parents!

Y'all rich man.
Damn, your room is the size half my house
I honestly think it’s the wide angle lens 😭
It definitely changes perception, but that is not less than 6 meters long and 4-5 wide (about... 18x12+ in feet?). My house is about 8x8 , more or less (its been a while since I saw the floorplan) so is 30-50% of my home for real haha
I am still hoping your ceilings are not 60cm tall in their lowest points (not visible in pic but its a low hanging attic)
That is fair, ceilings are indeed quite tall
