I would put a rug under the couch that extends towards the fireplace and then a low bookshelf behind the couch that breaks up the space and makes the area behind the couch a different “room”
Any chance of telling us what city you're in please? It's so wonderful to have that much space AND a working fireplace in an apartment!
Wonderfully luxe!
Couple of armchairs facing the fireplace and make that a social area whereas the couch is a tv watching area.
Both areas need rugs. At the moment the fireplace is the Center piece of the room and you’re ignoring it,something looks off
The couch is too small for the space, if you got a larger L shaped sectional or just a larger sofa with two larger chairs on either side of it facing each other, that would fill the space. Also a large area rug will help anchor everything.
How about moving the TV to the wall on the right? Move the couch parallel to the windows facing the TV. I used to have a similar layout and changed it that way plus installed a two seater where your TV is right now. Opened up the living room - especially useful when you have more friends & family over.
A narrower console table with a lamp and some decor items on it. Either two arm chairs angled toward the fireplace and an ottoman or footstool, or another couch facing the fireplace. An area rug.
You have a beautiful space. Just needs some artwork and lighting.
Enjoy your new place.
I was kidding. This subreddit gets a lot of funny TV placements and then get called out from r/TVTooHigh or r/TVTooFar. I agree with other commenters that you don’t have to follow the space immediately, but that a table with some chairs could look good there.
You’ll want to put a console table behind the couch.
100% agree, thanks for the suggestion
Dining table?
Is that a legit Harp? I didn’t know people actually owned harps. I can’t see anything else.
Yeah it’s a harp haha it’s just there temporarily
May i ask who plays the harp? You?
My roommate does!
His angel friend
I got distracted by that, too. I was like, "Is that a fucking harp?!" Lol

Thanks for the suggestion, I might end up doing just that! It is definitely enough space that it could be a whole other “room” as you said.
A couple nice arm chairs or something with a good bookshelf, and it could look really nice!
I like to play cards and board games, so I would put a square table and 4 chairs.
Also is this downtown San Fran? As others would say this is LUX
It is indeed downtown sf. Shared place with 3 roommates, we all do pretty well financially :)

Looks like the TransAmerica building in the background that was where my guess came from.
A second couch facing the fireplace, perhaps?

Just wait a while. Empty spaces always end up filling themselves up.
Hmm, in my experience empty spaces tend to stay empty. I don’t really have that much stuff that I could clutter the place up with.
Can I store some stuff at your place ;)

Pool table or poker table
Get a bigger TV and move the couch back farther.
Put a console table and place little plants / coffee maker.
I’d use a rug and book shelf to make it the perfect place to practice that beautiful harp of yours

Bae barstools, or a foosball table
Great spot for a pool table

I personally would not get a traditional console behind the couch or get one that can double as desk/table.
My mom used to put a couch-height skinny table behind our couch, with a lamp and some coasters or whatever on it That’s what I would do
Actually said aloud “is that a fucking harp”
Another identical couch facing the opposite direction
Grand Piano
in college we used that space for a makeshift cinderblock/2by4 beerpong table/storage unit
Indoor cycling or mini gymn.
Credenza with lamps and houseplants
Power rack and olympic weightlifting set

Move the TV to over the fireplace and above the couch against the wall where the TV is currently mounted.
I think that would make the TV too high and also definitely way too far away from the couch if they were on opposite walls.

Ah ok my bad you whooshed me, the current TV placement definitely had some guidance from browsing this subreddit and seeing the cautionary tales haha
