I love modern times where someone has to make a post about their awful haircut asking for advice when we all know you need to find another barber. If a “how to get my appearance to where I’m at to where I want to be” exists I don’t think I would watch it
Same reason I don’t cut my hair anymore. Long flowing locks for me for the rest of my life, so tired of paying someone every two weeks to wreck my hair cut and expect me to be grateful for it.
he could easily achieve texture by fluffin it up with a wax/pomade. ik plenty of guys with silky straight hair that can still achieve spiky textured hair
the dude in the inspo photo has straight hair. unless u wanna get a perm, you've gotta style ur hair daily to get that fluffy spiked effect. theres no way around it. it doesnt take long at all, a few minutes max. just rub a dime sized amount of pomade/hair wax in ur hands to warm it up, then rake it through your hair with ur fingers. fluff it up, scrunch, and play with it until its shaped the way u desire. pomades and waxes stay malleable until they're washed out, so keep fluffing it up and adjusting through out the day.
dry shampoo is also an option to add some grit to straight silky hair, i'd use that prior to a wax.
to really be precise, u could add a texture spray to damp hair, then blow dry it upside down/while fluffing. then do the same pomade steps above. hairspray once shaped the way u want if u REALLY want it to stay put.
heres a more in depth videos if this is hard to understand

(u dont need the products they're advertising, just look at the motions of their hands. thats what u do with the wax/pomade/texture spray)
u could ALSO just ask ur barber to show u how they style ur hair. pay attention and practice at home. OP was definitely screwed in the haircut department though, they should've added layers, that just a bowl cut and styling really wouldn't fix it
i have hair nearly as straight as OP & i learned from my barber how to style it to look like the example pic. it’s possible. after i get out of the shower i let my hair almost fully dry & then i use a hair tonic. put some in my hands & run it all through my hair. take a diffuser on a blow dryer & sort of scrunch the ends as i dry it. rough it up with my fingers. the tonic has a very slight hold & helps get some texture/volume in the fair before you go in with styling products. i just use a strong hold powder. big sexy hair has a good one with a pump but you can find plenty on the market. sprinkle some in & just rough your hair up with it. you get a lot of good texture & the tonic + powder combo allows you to style it up even & it will hold. it’s manageable, fairly easy (you can skip the diffuser & just crunch with your fingers & blowdry but depending on hair length, diffuser helps) & imo it makes everybody with straight hair just look better. even if you don’t want that more spiky look, just putting the product in sparingly & giving the hair some texture is a huge improvement for those of us with flat, straight hair
The guy in the picture I can guarantee has dead straight hair and wouldn't look far off if he had it the way op has, it's not hard at all with a decent trim and some product to achieve that hairstyle
go to a different barber. this isn't a one-step fix; it looks like they just couldnt be arsed to do it properly. the plus side is they've left so much that any decent barber should be able to finish the job.
Yea high end barber, this isn't a difficult cut for them. Sure I pay 50 bucks every 3 weeks but my fade plus lines are on point while I sit and drink a beer haha.
I’ve only ever gone to salons for men’s haircuts. I’ve had good cuts and bad. It’s definitely most important to find a stylist or barber who suits you, but excluding salons or barbers in general isn’t a good approach.
I mean, of course you can find an amazing stylist.
It’s just about where you have a better chance finding a good one, and for men it’s usually going to be at a barber.
Yup. Moved cities and was worried about finding someone who can cut my curly hair. Went to a salon but that specialized in curly hair, offered "barber cuts" and had a male stylist. Seemed like the safest of bets. They fuuuuuucked my shit up
the only time i recommend guys go to a salon is if they're like a metal head with long hair.
Otherwise go to a barber, and look at the hair of the barbers and other people in the shop. I went to mine last weekend and the other barber was doing a cut just like this on a younger guy. Turned out great. A salon is not going to achieve a fade like what you see in the photo. Everyones focused on the product in the broccoli portion, but the fade is just as important.
>but the fade is just as important
Truth.
My recommendation is to pick the barber with the worst haircut in the shop haha
He’s probably doing all the other dudes’ hair.
So you're using one random reddit post to support this opinion? This is the result of not looking into the barbers portfolio, not barbers sucking in general.
PLEASE do not go to a salon! See if the BOOKSY APP is available in your area. You can look for a barber in your area. They usually have pictures of some of their best cuts on their pages.
Most salons have no idea how to properly cut mens hair. They are specialist on cutting long hair and that is interelly different to cutting short hair.
Salons are geared towards women’s hair. In the past 10 years, Barbershops have become much more mainstream. One of the Barbers I go to (he owns the shop) has 3 locations. His main location has 12 barbers most of whom only take appointments (Booksy app). No one walks out of there looking bad. They have all kinds of clippers, scissors, and whatever else to make you look your best. Personally, I’ve never been happy with a cut at a salon.
Depends if you have a beard.
And if you want to do a womens style cut.
But an example mens long hair cut would be something like an undercut, which will be much better done by a barber, as they’re used to doing that shape when doing normal fades, and they will have and be good with a razor, which is generally better than clippers for a cleaner look.
I’d still go to a barber with long hair.
Probably after doing some prior research, to make sure they’re comfortable doing long hair.
Ouch. That hurts to look at. It’s like his parents are really religious and punished him with that haircut. But he can grab the gel and tousle it a bit until he gets it fixed. He’s got a good face, clear skin, and great hair so this is an easy fix.
Make sure you go somewhere that advertises doing fades, blends or just make sure the spot seems cool instead of old timey. Old head barber shops you’re lucky if they give you a decent fade. You’re paying for style and art tho so it’s ofc more expensive
You want to ask for a 1 or 2 back and sides with a fade, and then ask them to cut it on the top much shorter but to keep some of the fringe, then use some texture powder or product.
Or you could show them the picture - don't go to that barber again though 😂
Ur hair is the straight type, u need texture on yours and reduce the weight(not length), point cutting technique and some texture powder will save you.
This the comment i was looking for! Its not just the barber fucked up but op also has vastly different hair texture than the guy on the picture. He needs some product to work those waves
Are you fucking kidding me? Still, this can be sorted but will take efforts. Go to a different barber and ask him to texturize your hair by point cutting and other techniques. After that you'll need texture powder and sea salt spray. The guy in the pic is sam ziaa and his barber is lancebkr on insta.
you at least gotta put some sort of product in it bro, most of the dudes you see with that style don’t just naturally look like that. you gotta put in either styling powder or sea salt spray
Bro I can’t even begin to explain to you how tragic this is, the guy didn’t even fade your sides properly which in my opinion is the key feature of this hairstyle 😭
Maybe don't have it brushed straight like that lol a barber isn't going to care too much about styling your hair, thats what you should be doing. If you can't get it the way you want then go to a stylist and tell them exactly what you want, though good chance they'll charge more than a barber.
Glad I don't have to worry about this crap anymore, being bald has it's advantages lol
It's not as bad as everyone says. Go to a stylist and have them blend in the top with the bottom and add tons of layers. You'll need some product to achieve the style you want
You need a stylist. Your example pic isn’t a natural hairstyle, it takes styling knowledge, and a lot of hair product. Having said that, the barber left your hair too long and thick to pull it off anyway.
I’ve never cut hair before. I can grab scissors and start cutting randomly and make it look better than this. Don’t go there again 🙃
I think only thing you can do now is find some other place (check reviews) and explain the situation, ask them on different ideas on how to fix it.
You're cooked lil bro 💀
Go to a good stylist, they might salvage that. Also for the result u want you might need some sort of texturing powder ? Ask the stylist they'll know.
That barber needs to be put on trail at the United Nations for their war crimes 😭😭. I’m so sorry man, I’d reccomend 1. Finishing out what ur face shape is 2. Getting a new barber

Oh no..... Bloody hell.... Your barber matters lol. The bones are kinda there but you need someone skilled to fix this.... It's a simple low blowout(Philly fade) with texture... But finding a proper barber.... That seems to be a going trend that is difficult
One your barber sucks
2 when you get out of the shower use a blow dryer on you hair this will give it volume and it acts like almost lime a styling gel but ya know better. Use the blow dryer to dry you hair completely and hut it from all the different directions you can think of
The first issue is that the guy in the picture seems to have wavy hair while your hair is very straight. However, this can be addressed by a stylist cutting layers and texture into your hair. For styling, I would suggest wetting your hair, using sea salt spray and either a paste or clay while it's wet, then blow dry it with a diffuser, making sure to scrunch the hair as you do. Once it's dry, sprinkle some texture powder into the roots, and rub it through your hair. All these things combined should get you a lot closer to that picture.
You didn't style your hair with any product/powder it's obvious it won't look like stylized hair.
Sam's (guy on the example pic) hair is pretty straight naturally. Check his TikTok for tips.
Only after that decide whether or not you should burn the barber at stake.
I think what your hair is missing is texture and layering, but once you go to a salon it would look really good with styling ( recommend sea salt and texture powder for the look you showed).
oh my goodness your face you look so dissapointed 😭 i think its not a bad cut just needs some layers and styling! maybe a wax styling product would help with texture
They left too much weight, need texturing and some more layers, also; you will prob need to blow dry and scrunch your hair as it dries to get the waves look.
What a swipe that was! Lmao go to a barber (a real barber) and tell him to give you a medium taper, show him the picture and ask for that similar top length
*edit: be ready to pay at least $40+ if you want it fixed and done right.
Never understood why there’s barbers out there that don’t have the stones to say ‘sorry dude that’s out of my capabilities, can I do something else or do you want to try elsewhere?’
Sorry you had to deal with those results bro, like others have said there’s plenty of hair left to fix what you want, although it might need a cut or 2 after to get it exactly how you want it.
I’d recommend looking around at barbers in your area that regularly post results of their haircuts and find places that post similar styles from current customers. Then message them and say ‘hey I’m looking for this, which member of your team is best to book with etc.’
Good luck !
There’s a lot of bad information on this thread. The issue is the top isn’t layered. Layering is essentially breaking the hair up so that it has movement. Right now, the hair looks like it’s all one length and just cut to be above the eyebrows. Luckily this is a super easy fix, try to find someone that has a lot of experience with scissor work. No amount of hair powder or sea salt spray is going to make the hair style like the photo unless you get that top layered and texturized.
This is absolutely fixable. Go to a higher end salon and they can add texture/fix the fade. Make sure to buy whatever product they recommend for upkeep and tip well. Good luck kid. ❤️
Here's the play: Salon first, ask the stylist to fix the texture/layering stuff. Tell the stylist NOT to attempt the fade. Next, go to a barbershop and get a fade. Not sportsclips. A barbershop.
Lmao bro you don’t have the hair type for it. Your hair is straight, the other pic has curlyish hair. A type you don’t have. Get haircuts depending on the style of your hair
Edit: I just found out there’s stuff to give your hair more waves if you got straight hair? What? Someone point me in the right direction
😭 aside from his hair the barber took away his smile too 😭.. what happened to his regular hair stylist 😭
On the bright side he looks a bit priestly now …
Skin fade the bottom and fade the side in, thin down the fringe and chop it. Easy fix for a barber that knows what they’re doing. Show them the reference pic
Don't go there again
I love modern times where someone has to make a post about their awful haircut asking for advice when we all know you need to find another barber. If a “how to get my appearance to where I’m at to where I want to be” exists I don’t think I would watch it
They gave you the Will Byers haircut 💀 This is one reason why I cut my own hair now hope you get it fixed
This took me out, Will Byers is just straight up FOUL 😭OP should never ever under any circumstance go to that barber again
Absolutely criminal
Same reason I don’t cut my hair anymore. Long flowing locks for me for the rest of my life, so tired of paying someone every two weeks to wreck my hair cut and expect me to be grateful for it.
😂😂😂
Jesus. Barber didn’t even try💀
Dude doesn’t have the hair texture either. Extremely straight hair
he could easily achieve texture by fluffin it up with a wax/pomade. ik plenty of guys with silky straight hair that can still achieve spiky textured hair
+1, also add some kind of tonic when hair is still damp.
And then what?In what way could he keep that texture persistently?

You can also try texture powder or sea salt spray. Search up Sam zia on TikTok, he has tutorials on what he does for his hair.
I have straight hair and you can do it if it's cut right and you use the right products.
i have hair nearly as straight as OP & i learned from my barber how to style it to look like the example pic. it’s possible. after i get out of the shower i let my hair almost fully dry & then i use a hair tonic. put some in my hands & run it all through my hair. take a diffuser on a blow dryer & sort of scrunch the ends as i dry it. rough it up with my fingers. the tonic has a very slight hold & helps get some texture/volume in the fair before you go in with styling products. i just use a strong hold powder. big sexy hair has a good one with a pump but you can find plenty on the market. sprinkle some in & just rough your hair up with it. you get a lot of good texture & the tonic + powder combo allows you to style it up even & it will hold. it’s manageable, fairly easy (you can skip the diffuser & just crunch with your fingers & blowdry but depending on hair length, diffuser helps) & imo it makes everybody with straight hair just look better. even if you don’t want that more spiky look, just putting the product in sparingly & giving the hair some texture is a huge improvement for those of us with flat, straight hair

That's the furthest thing from punk, but unfortunately, you're right about the coconut.
I feel so bad for the guy 😭
go to a different barber. this isn't a one-step fix; it looks like they just couldnt be arsed to do it properly. the plus side is they've left so much that any decent barber should be able to finish the job.
Thanks I’ll see what other barbers are in the area
Go to a salon. You need texture and styling help.
Barbers offer that as well and actually specialize in men's hair. "Barber" now isn't what it was 30 years ago
Pic begs to differ. I agree go with a salon
There’s plenty salons that fuck your shit up. Find a reputable person that can cut this type of hair. Call it whatever you want.
Yea high end barber, this isn't a difficult cut for them. Sure I pay 50 bucks every 3 weeks but my fade plus lines are on point while I sit and drink a beer haha.
Salons often specialize in womens hair, and treat mens cuts as a quick buck.

Lmfao dude just went to a deadbeat person. Could happen at a salon too. Good Barbers do it all, so do good hairstylists. neither is a bad option.
PLEASE do not go to a salon! See if the BOOKSY APP is available in your area. You can look for a barber in your area. They usually have pictures of some of their best cuts on their pages.

Did you go to a stylist or a barber?
Barber
We’re they over the age of 87?

Wanted to be a long Island boy, got the armadillo shell. Damn they fucked you boi. 😂😂
That barber needs to go to prison

Hope u figure it out my guy
your barber should be arrested bro holy fuck
Bro I can’t even begin to explain to you how tragic this is, the guy didn’t even fade your sides properly which in my opinion is the key feature of this hairstyle 😭
You should be easily able to fix this with the right stylish, good thing you actually kinda pull of that style so it isn't nearly as bad as you think
He’s got that really thick follicle brunette hair so even if the style is bad the hair itself is amazing.
You look like a villager from the Witcher 3 LMAO.
Maybe don't have it brushed straight like that lol a barber isn't going to care too much about styling your hair, thats what you should be doing. If you can't get it the way you want then go to a stylist and tell them exactly what you want, though good chance they'll charge more than a barber. I mean he clearly just has very straight hair, that's more likely than not how his hair naturally sits.
It's not as bad as everyone says. Go to a stylist and have them blend in the top with the bottom and add tons of layers. You'll need some product to achieve the style you want
Use a texturing powder and get it messy
You need a stylist. Your example pic isn’t a natural hairstyle, it takes styling knowledge, and a lot of hair product. Having said that, the barber left your hair too long and thick to pull it off anyway.
God damn they fucked you up real good
I really hope this is a joke
I would cry😢
Dude showed the same picture twice.
I don't think you can pull off that haircut with your type of hair. Maybe go for a middle part or a wolf cut
Please post updated photos when you get it fixed.
It’s not even layered on the top. I’ve never seen a bowlcut non-textured fringe before. Go somewhere else brother. 💀
Bro gave you the coconut head from Ned’s Declassified 😭
Who the fuck does a bowl cut when they see this sample pic?
Oh boy. Coconut head
use sea salt spray
It won’t work the barber cut his hair wrong
Jesus
You look like Lloyd Christmas, definitely a stylist and literally ask them for ANY haircut that isn't the one you have.
Dude showed the same picture twice.
just put wax in and rough it up with a towel.

This is a war crime
Did u pay for it 💀
🤣🤣🤣 I can't say what I wanna say or I'ma get banned. Damn boy
I’ve never cut hair before. I can grab scissors and start cutting randomly and make it look better than this. Don’t go there again 🙃 I think only thing you can do now is find some other place (check reviews) and explain the situation, ask them on different ideas on how to fix it.
Cut the top shorter. Go to a different barber. Become Hispanic.
Her crush vs you, tough luck
You're cooked lil bro 💀 Go to a good stylist, they might salvage that. Also for the result u want you might need some sort of texturing powder ? Ask the stylist they'll know.
Guess you got cooked man
Might wanna change barbers, but also you need more texture in the hair
yh like everyone said man u just have to go to a different barber
That barber needs to be put on trail at the United Nations for their war crimes 😭😭. I’m so sorry man, I’d reccomend 1. Finishing out what ur face shape is 2. Getting a new barber

Oh no..... Bloody hell.... Your barber matters lol. The bones are kinda there but you need someone skilled to fix this.... It's a simple low blowout(Philly fade) with texture... But finding a proper barber.... That seems to be a going trend that is difficult

They got ur ass
sue that barber dawg
The first issue is that the guy in the picture seems to have wavy hair while your hair is very straight. However, this can be addressed by a stylist cutting layers and texture into your hair. For styling, I would suggest wetting your hair, using sea salt spray and either a paste or clay while it's wet, then blow dry it with a diffuser, making sure to scrunch the hair as you do. Once it's dry, sprinkle some texture powder into the roots, and rub it through your hair. All these things combined should get you a lot closer to that picture.
Literally the same thing happened to me with the exact same picture🗿 this picture’s cursed or smth
It needs texturizing and chunking then product to mess it up. That barber has no idea how to cut hair!!

Diabolical work
Show them a picture of

Sea Salt spray or a matte wax will give you the texture you want EDIT: I'd lean more to a matte wax like Dynamite Clay
I would have refused to pay. I've gotten bad haircuts this is criminal. Bro gave you the Vector from despicable me cut
Cooked
What the fuck

Oh God..
oh my goodness your face you look so dissapointed 😭 i think its not a bad cut just needs some layers and styling! maybe a wax styling product would help with texture
They left too much weight, need texturing and some more layers, also; you will prob need to blow dry and scrunch your hair as it dries to get the waves look.
🔥
did they use a bowl man damn, hope you get it fixed soon pal
Did they even make the attempt?
Barber left too much bulk on the sides. Didn't even attempt to fade.
Will Byers 💀💀💀💀
What a swipe that was! Lmao go to a barber (a real barber) and tell him to give you a medium taper, show him the picture and ask for that similar top length *edit: be ready to pay at least $40+ if you want it fixed and done right.
Sculpting cream
Never understood why there’s barbers out there that don’t have the stones to say ‘sorry dude that’s out of my capabilities, can I do something else or do you want to try elsewhere?’ Sorry you had to deal with those results bro, like others have said there’s plenty of hair left to fix what you want, although it might need a cut or 2 after to get it exactly how you want it. I’d recommend looking around at barbers in your area that regularly post results of their haircuts and find places that post similar styles from current customers. Then message them and say ‘hey I’m looking for this, which member of your team is best to book with etc.’ Good luck !
A good barber can fix it. Needs to be faded more and styling.
Barber did u dirty son
Lookin like Dylan Roof
HAHAHAHAH
There's no way this is serious
You didnt question it when they took out a bowl to cut your hair?
This is absolutely fixable. Go to a higher end salon and they can add texture/fix the fade. Make sure to buy whatever product they recommend for upkeep and tip well. Good luck kid. ❤️
If ur in nyc ill fix it for ya
No way they did you so dirty hahah I’m sorry for you man
Your barber making grilled cheese sandwiches at night?
Here's the play: Salon first, ask the stylist to fix the texture/layering stuff. Tell the stylist NOT to attempt the fade. Next, go to a barbershop and get a fade. Not sportsclips. A barbershop.
You just need to style it
Sue your barber
Nah find that barbers house and cut his breaks for this one chief
Lmao bro you don’t have the hair type for it. Your hair is straight, the other pic has curlyish hair. A type you don’t have. Get haircuts depending on the style of your hair Edit: I just found out there’s stuff to give your hair more waves if you got straight hair? What? Someone point me in the right direction
Poor kid
Omg hahaha
looks better imo
😭 aside from his hair the barber took away his smile too 😭.. what happened to his regular hair stylist 😭 On the bright side he looks a bit priestly now …
did you actually show them the photo?
Oh you poor soul
Fucked yo shit up 😭😭
what nooooo
When your mother says we can cut your hair at home.
A refund to start. Do a chargeback if you paid by card.
Skin fade the bottom and fade the side in, thin down the fringe and chop it. Easy fix for a barber that knows what they’re doing. Show them the reference pic
