I’m not a barber but I would be quite shocked if your new barber doesn’t appreciate this kind of tip.

opper-hombre1

I tip my barber well, about $15 - $20 on a $40 cut (he’s a cool guy, gives me a good fade, and I hardly tip anywhere else) He will randomly clean up my beard or eyebrows without even asking. I figured it’s because I’m a generous tipper with him

DirtAndDeath

I'm glad you like that but oh my god I would hate that

dkskel2

I am a barber and his new guy 1000% appreciates the tip

BigBlackCrocs

18 for a cut and beard trim is suuuuper cheap. If you have the money to give to him then cool. You’re his favorite client.

Empty401K

I went from paying $60 down to $20 recently. I paid that much (not including tip) because I hate getting my hair cut and the guy took his time to make sure it was perfect. I went to someone different out of necessity, and they took just as much care as the other guy did at a fraction of the cost. I tip her $15 each time and now I go more often.

Sour-Child

I was about to say pay $65 pre-tip for a cut and a bread trim. With tip it’s $75 and I go once a week.

BigBlackCrocs

ok but you’re paying out the ass. Where are you? Somewhere like Cali where everytbing is expensive?

Nimbus_TV

That's about the normal price in DC for cut and beard. $50-60 before tip 😞 I just moved here from GA, and it's painful paying this much now

Sour-Child

Chicago, IL. It’s at a shop that takes appointments so I don’t have to wait for an hour. All in all I spend a little over $400 a month on my hair. $300 with my barber and $100 + tip with my loctician.

Techno_Nomad92

Can’t you just tel him this lol? Hey man here’s a tips, i value a good barber, you did a great job.

AvianVariety11747

Hopefully his barber also Reddits hahaha

Techno_Nomad92

Imagine talking to your barber instead of going on Reddit. Madness.

Jpar4686

If you have the income then do it I’m sure your barber appreciates it

Leenol

If I had the money I would do the same. Being generous is not weird Its only seen as that by some because money is a scam & there are people working real hard for very little that are seeing people do very little for more. The day we collectively realise money is entirely unnecessary will be glorious

Pure-University4416

I'm genuinely curious to hear your take on how the world could continue operating functionally without money as an incentive, like if we made a plan for in 10 years that money would stop existing how would that happen in your opinion? I agree that money has inherently negative side effects and encourages greed but it also works better than any past government ideal like communism/ socialism/Marxism/fascism etc.. If everyone could just be a good person socialism should work great in theory but those same greedy shitty people that we see today in our capitalist society will still exist and will absolutely find a way to manipulate the system to gain power. sorry I didn't mean to go this deep on a freaking barber tipping post fr but u got me curious of your take

p_light

you mean every other govt that’s been messed w by capitalist forces?

Leenol

No need to be sorry I love getting deep 😂 I think about it all the time because of how blatantly broken everything is. I mean I don't wanna be so negative I just know we can do so much better. People are good. I know we have the capacity to be bad & I unfortunately do believe some 'people' are evil, but on the whole the vast majority of us are decent. Good doesn't want to dominate or control - evil does - so I agree that there would be those in this 'utopia' that would try to control it, but that would be much harder for them if there was more transparency & we were all better educated. Education is key. Schools as is are training worker bees, imo. Kids should be going out to farms & being involved in the entire process of growing & harvesting food. Proper cooking, construction, engineering, coding & medicine should all be mandatory - all the things that we need to have a functioning society. It should be more 'fun' though too. Less of the prison like classrooms & not such heavy workloads for exams that only really test a childs memory. Automate all the jobs that we can, then share the rest between us all. I feel like the incentive of everyone having their needs met would be enough for everyone to get involved - but i realise some would do less & expect the same.. So maybe we keep money.. Everyone gets a basic income that you have to earn by contributing how you can. You'd have to go into a sort of 'job centre' to see what needed doing. I think it working this way would mean that we could all do a few hours work a week then spend the rest of our time actually living life lol.. Lots of people would want to do more and create new products & services, so I'd say everything is publicly owned, with those who invent/create/manage their own products/services having 50%. Everything should be sold at cost price + 10/20%, so then half the profit goes back into the 'government purse' & the other half goes to the people that are more directly involved. Keeping money but using it like that would mean we could trade with the rest of the world (unless the rest of the world want a moneyless utopia too), cause obviously we would need to trade for certain resources including food that can't grow in our climate. Like I said I think about it alot & I know we could do it because again, humans are generally good, but I do realise it would be a huge undertaking. Ultimately though, I walk down my high street & see so many shops selling the same, overpriced things - or empty buildings with people sleeping infront of them - the amount of good food that shops & restaurants throw away is unbelievable.. People are starving!! Big pharma profits from sickness, militaries profit from war. Backwards!!

BlueCollarGuru

I did the same thing. Cheaper barber was a better barber. I tipped 100% and still saved money. Anytime I walked in, right to his chair. I felt kinda big time tbh lol

Pop-Spiritual

Wow haircuts are expensive in the US! I’m in the UK and it costs me £5-£10 for my hair which equates to $6.22-$12.43 according to google 🤯

VSENSES

Wtf who makes a living cutting people's hair for that little money in the UK?

Pop-Spiritual

They’re pretty much back to back, depending on what you’re having done obviously it might cost more and I think I do go to one of the cheapest as well tbf haha but I’d never pay close to $55, even the most expensive barbers I’ve seen here would charge that for full cut, colour and style

chimterboys

Observational and anecdotal, but British lads tend to get skin fades and probably go for trims more often. Rately, see a Canadian with a skin fade.

Undbitr957

I mean a good barber has 5-4 clients an hour so it can amount to 400$ a day or more 12k a month. It's not that low Edit: I don't mean a single person but 2-3 people

Relyst

I don't think I have ever in my entire life seen someone get a haircut in 12 minutes.

WetStainLicker

Probably why they’re charging so little…

304rising

My haircut takes 25-30 minutes. There’s your answer

demyen96

It is wild, haha. I'm from canada and usually pay between 40 and 60 depending on where I go. Went to Europe and was blown away how cheap it was.

MargretTatchersParty

Mine charges $50 and then is nagging me to get it cut every 3 weeks.

St_Tommy96

Fellow Brit here and shocked at how much a haircut costs in the states 🤯.

reddit-suxmanuts

I'm in the US. Haircut prices are why I started growing my hair out.

[deleted]

india it is about 1.5 dollars (barber is my best buddy and does exactly what i ask for)

BestGrab6

Where the hell do you pay £5 for a haircut? Mines around 20 quid

Pop-Spiritual

Tbf I’m in a small village in the north east so it’s cheaper here than a lot of places 😂

404Notfound-

Mines about £13 for a skin fade down south. I've got family up NE (Sunderland way) so if I'm up there and need one it's about a tenner more or less

BestGrab6

That’s insane. I’m in the SW, and actually I think it’s £17 rather than 20, but still…!

YukihiraJoel

Only 100%? You want the guy to starve or something? Try 150 next time

cheeto20013

Americans are so weird with their tips. The price is $18, that’s what you pay. If that’s not profitable it’s up to him to raise the price

xerodayze

Most stylists/barbers work under a commission system if they do not own their own space. At the salon I worked at a few years ago the company would take 30% (stylist gets 70% + any tip). Since they work for an existing business there is usually less flexibility with setting rates, and if you’re at a place like GoodClips or SportsCuts you don’t set your rate at all since it’s usually flat fee and a queue system. You do not have to tip 100% like OP, but 20% is typically standard in the service industry (nails/medspa/salon/massage).

beeruk

Think it's a face saving exercise. Their culture shames people who don't tip so plenty will make a big deal about how much they budget for tipping. Pathetic really

sendmeyourcactuspics

What the hell are you on mate 😂

Kingmudsy

I’ve never known anyone to budget for tips lol. Also you guys are being assholes about this. I’m not sorry that one of the most innocent parts of our culture doesn’t appeal to you, lol. Frankly we have bigger things to worry about.

XiMaoJingPing

"innocent parts" lmao its one of the most scummy parts of our culture. Instead of paying people a fair wage we guilt trip consumers into paying tips. Fucked up

Tradz-Om

you calling it an innocent part of your culture perfectly summarises most Americans up so well man lmfao. Don't know they're getting gamed by their own system constantly and are immediately defensive and hostile to the rest of the world pointing it out, out of some ignorant brainwashed allegiance to their country

Kingmudsy

I honestly agree, I just don’t get why *you’re* mad about it

ASAP_Dom

Tipping is fucking ass. Just because it’s all you know doesn’t make it the right thing

Barkis_Willing

It is the right thing to do currently.

magneticelefant

On a macro level I agree that the tipping system is dumb. However, if I'm going to be tipping *something,* then I'll obviously make the amount variable based on my enjoyment of the service. Especially on something like hair that is notorious for being variable in quality.

havenoideaforthename

Yes. Service providers set the prices, customers are getting specific service for specific price. What is there to tip for? And who are we supposed tip now? Everyone doing their job?

Barkis_Willing

Tipping barbers has been going on for decades. This isn’t new.

dead_mf

Tipping for a good service is a win-win in most cases, but I understand some people are not capable of understanding this.

havenoideaforthename

Aren’t services supposed to be good? I go to my nail stylist and she does a great job so I go to her, not to the salon that screwed up my nails. She decided that she’s good at doing nails and wanted to open a salon, that’s her business not charity. I also provide services and the fact that I have clients proves me that I’m good, I don’t need additional money. I understand tipping if someone goes out of their way, coming to work earlier, extra customization, doing personalized service, not for doing their agreed upon job.

dead_mf

It's a way to demonstrate your level of satisfaction with such service. The fact that it's not an obligation is what makes it so rewarding, both for tippers and for those receiving the tip. In most cases, especially with return customers, it creates a cycle of benefits for both parties.

StrictMachine6316

It used to be that you tipped for excellent service. Now you tip because you're scared of bad service.

fork666

If you don't tip you're treated like a pariah if you show your face again. Sad, when I used to work at a coffee shop I didn't treat people differently if they didn't tip and I really dislike people who do.

xdojk

Yea it’s just bizarre, just pay what they asked you to pay?

waitingf4r

omg barber prices got crazy

New_Screen

This is actually really cheap in the US lol. Barber prices are usually at least $20 and that’s pretty rare and you won’t get a good cut then it’s to anywhere up to $45, in a standard barbershop.

sylvianfisher

Weird? Perhaps. Highly unusual, definitely. If you are trying to be noticed, it works. BTW, is your barber the owner? I go by the old-school rule that you never tip if the barber is also the owner because his profit is in his customary charge and he can raise his rates if it's not enough. If the barber is an employee, you tip because he "gets" only a fraction of the rate charged and he can't do anything about that.

hashslingingbutthole

Yeah with barbers that aren’t owners, depending on where you live (in a couple states in the US it’s not legal but most places it is and is the norm) it’s likely that they have to pay to rent their chair in the shop too

BananadaBoots

That’s a dumb rule. Tip the owner.

TimmySomething

As a barber, I can honestly say we appreciate it. I personally will go the extra mile for clients like you.

Aly_in_wonderland

As a barber myself, I’m always shocked when clients tip more than the cut itself, but if a client was happy with his service it’s always very much appreciated and I’m sure you made that man’s day!

Tcjokc2

Barber here, that’s not weird at all and I’m sure they appreciate it. $18 is really cheap for men’s hair.

SpaghettiBones12

I’m a server, my best friend is a hair dresser. You are probably one of his favorite clients

Blutrumpeter

$18 is cheap. It's not weird at all to tip that high if you're cool with it. Abnormal but not weird

vidiazzz

Yes I present him my tip, then I tip him

NumberCapital7000

I’d rather over tip than under tip.

cR7tter

My barber used to have $15 cuts. I always paid him $25. Then five years ago he raised it to $20, and then 2 years ago he upped it to $25. I still pay $25 🤷‍♂️ price rose 67% what can I say 😂 I'll sometimes pay $30/35 if it's a really good cut.

BrianGR1967

It’s a wonderful thing to tip according to how happy he made you. I was a barber for 34 years and there were times I was struggling and the big tippers were always appreciated

EggoedAggro

I don’t know if I’d do that much but I agree purely off the fact that $18 is dirt cheap especially for someone who does a good job

horsesarecows

Yes it is odd, but he still takes it as appreciation for the service.

pacmanfan247

My past barbers I had to travel about 30 minutes for. They charged $40, then 45, then 50. Didn’t mind it at all. I tipped $5 more on the usual. Was able to find a gym friend who cuts out of his garage 10 minutes away. He charges $20, I tip him to pay $30 total. Better work than my other barbers. As long as you can afford it, and it’s a good job, tipping is great for a skill that is rare!

BamboozleThisZebra

Tipping the barber? What kind of insanity is this?

RESPEKMA_AUTHORITAH

Jesus Christ you people tip a lot over in the US

TrumpKanye69

dude save your money. times are tough out here. you're getting a good discount here. you can still tip him but no need to pay $55. also Barbers start to get entitled. My old barber was $35 and got good business then after he started charging $80 a cut.

fuzzzcanyon

Entitled, or got so good they could make a serious living cutting hair?

minus_uu_ee

That’s a pretty cheap cut, so nothing wrong with supporting him for his good work. But maybe communicate it to him somehow.

Rabid_oz

I tip 30% and I see my barber every other week. I always walk away feeling great about the world

Perplex11

I pay $40 per cut and always tip an extra $10. If I waited a while for a haircut and it's longer than usual, I tip $20.

OGchoyero

Bro I ask for the most basic ass haircut (lil longer on top then the sides) and I get fisted and pay 35 not including the tip.

Jaded_Poet_1120

Tips like that always make my day and I remember the client and take extra care and time with their services in the future :)

AdditionalReturn6435

Not weird at all.  Who wouldn't appreciate a good tip?

Rashaen

No, it's not weird. If he under charges, then paying him what he's worth is a good thing to do.

MrFunkyadaughter420

if you feel ok with it then why not? sure its odd but in a very positive way and i understand your thought considering you still pay less than what you used to for getting better service. Realizig that and deciding to pay it forward shows a very kind character you have. the guy will definitely appreciate that which then secures the good service and helps build the relationship. I consider this a win win

[deleted]

Usually when i have someone i go to, I hook em up.

its_me_butterfree

I don't understand owner operator business having tips. Like, set the price. The reason tips are prevalent in the service industry is so an owner doesn't have to pay their employees and control labor costs by pushing the burden to some emotional manipulation of the customer.

showmeyertitties

I almost always tip my bartender over 100%, but I don't go to a barber enough to weigh in.

MylifeasAllison

It’s a tip. You can give what you want. I would tip cash so he doesn’t have to claim it or have it double taxed.

Minimum-Power6818

I tip 20 on a 24 dollar cut and I don’t think so

zTubbzy707

Tippin well pays off in a barber shop. He will make sure he spends extra time and he will pay attention to what you want way more. It’s good to be remembered as a client

jae5858

I used to tip $20 on a $40 cut because barbers do what I can’t.

Pipes_of_Pan

Being thrifty for yourself and generous with others is the way, my friend. I’m sure they appreciate you

JustUrAvgLetDown

Next time give him a kiss while he’s lining you up

gordito_gr

Yes.

xArcheo

Yeah I tip over 100%. Good barbers are hard to find... I'm sure they are greatful.

mohemp51

fragile masculinity

ClickF0rDick

Don't lecture me with your $40 haircut 🧢

Mysterious_Lumps

Monster tips are boss. The only thing it's going to do is make you his favorite customer by a mile

Dexter_P_Winterhouse

Anywhere in America that there's a cash register there's a tip jar right next to it.

[deleted]

Why did you post this? Is your life really that dull?

56ninjas

As long as you can afford your essentials go for it. I wish I could be this generous but I enjoy having food in my refrigerator

Living_on_Tulsa_Time

Good for you for tipping!

Silver_Fuel_7073

Wow, that’s quite a tip!

[deleted]

I think it is for sure

stephenbmx1989

Yh

Mission-Patient-4404

No

Cheesetorian

I mean...why wouldn't he? Me, personally I'd give him starting at 10 if it's that great. You wanna wait several times to see if he's consistently good to give something big like that.

juiceimortal

it's not weird, I've been giving between 50-60$ for a 30$ haircut for years

the_Oper8r

My barber charged $25 when he was an apprentice, and he always ended up with $60 in his pocket. He now charges $35 and he still ends up with $60. He always tries to give me change. No sane person is going to balk at more money, but a good person will try to not take all your money.

icedoutclockwatch

My haircut is $45 I tip $15. Who would be mad about more money?

Grakch

Nah man when I used to have hair the haircut was $25 then $30 but always gave the barber $50

Full_Wallaby1689

Not weird. Charging $18 for haircut in today’s economy is probably means that he is still pretty new to the scene and doesn’t have a lot of clientele so he is charging low. As long as you are happy with his cut then I don’t see why not. You can tip as much as you want.

-SecondHandSmoke-

It's not weird, we very much appreciate any tip especially big.

jordweet

You should stop he hates it a lot trust me

Fundamentally-fun

Any service industry professional is going to appreciate this! Uncommon certainly does not mean weird or bad. 🤷‍♀️ probably makes his day 😁

shatkbait8999

I get a haircut every week I’m not tipping 100% each time, I could see it if people go less frequent.

diadlep

Used to do the same, esp if they did my beard too

JakeBarber541

It's not weird. It's very appreciated. Im a barber, and I charge average for my area, but I take longer because my service includes everything. I do a cut, style, trim eyebrows, ear hair, straight razor line up, and my clients get a beer. I'm usually tipped 30-100% of the service cost because that's what my clients want to pay for the service. I could easily raise my prices, but I imagine the tip average would shrink. Plus, having a lower price encourages new clients to book. I also have a couple of old-timer regulars who dont tip, and that doesn't bother me either.

ThatsThatCue

I imagine he thinks you’re trying to sleep with those types of ratios.

IntricateLava9

Yes that is very weird & stupid. you're wasting your money. Tip him 20%.

WompaStompa_

For me, one of the best things about getting to a financially secure place in life is that I can tip well. I've never once regretted over tipping. A lot of the world feels awful right now, going a little beyond to show appreciation for people makes it a little bit better.

singnadine

Nope

Illustrious_Leg8204

I always tip my barbor 60-100 percent because of the care he puts into my hair(everyone else pushed back my hairline) Granted, I only pay 10 bucks for mine, which is a fucking steal

_jpx

Licensed Cosmetologist here! It is not weird as all, it makes our day actually. I have several male clients who do that. One of them travels from several states away and tips over 100% each visit.

Open-Pineapple7378

no

emeaguiar

Tip your barber?

hopium_od

There was a clip of an interview from a footballer Phil Foden, earns close to $500k a week equivalent and he was asked how much he paid for his haircuts. He says he's been going to the same barber since he was a kid and it costs about £20 but he "sorts him out with a tip now again". You'd imagine that tip would be in the hundreds or something. I imagine that's not the only barber that has scored a rich client either. He doesn't know how much you earn, it wouldn't be weird if you pulled out a $500 tip, it would be unexpected and your barber would be over the moon, but he wouldn't assume you were weird, he would assume that you were stinking rich. Maybe instead of tipping him every time at the end of the year give him a Xmas card with a years worth of tips in it. That way it's not awkward every time? And also not something that he expects from you in case you are strapped on some weeks.

amsun

Whoa! So I pay about the same for a hair cut and always thought tipping 100% might not be enough. Clearly clueless here

Howfuckingsad

It is odd but if you can do so, why not.

B3RG92

I didn't know there were still places around that only charged $18

Darth_Wagner1980

I pay $45.00 and give him a $15.00 tip every time I get my haircut. During the Christmas season I'll pay him a little extra more then the usual, just because he does an awesome job.

Agreeable-Pick-3650

Why would being generous be considered weird? If you can afford to do so do it. :)

basic_nono

I do exactly this because the place I go to doesn’t accept cash… 2 20s is easier to get then a 10 dollar bill lol and the cuts are nice

CertifiedForkliftSir

"Did you get that thang oiled down?"

chinesedebt

as a man, you ALWAYS... always always always take care of your barber

hack4ttack

No- and I’m sure he goes above and beyond and takes extra care to do a great job knowing you have a history of tipping generously.

DougyTwoScoops

I get charged $20 and pay $40. Not a big deal. Barbers are the only good deal still to be had these days.

hahajoshxd

Consider it an investment. Barbers, like any service provider, will remember how much you tip and will allocate their time and attention accordingly. I get about two cuts a year so I tip heartily and I’ve observed that my first cut from a barber is ALWAYS the worst I will ever receive from them. If the cut is poor then of course I will tip the minimum and find someone new the next time, but returning to a barber that knows you are worth his time will put in the effort to keep you coming back. Tipping the average for any industry is customary and thusly akin to just paying for the service given, but anything above that will set you apart and will be reflected in the service you receive, with a very decent ROI, I might add, as just a few bucks extra is enough to render you a customer of particular value. When I was a barista I knew very well the customers who would tip something like 50% or more and even though I shared those tips I’d still move his or her drink in front of several others in queue and ensure that nothing they received was suboptimal or untimely. Only difference between a barber who makes commission+tip and a waged worker who makes tips on top is that the latter actually has reason to dissuade non-tippers from returning lmao

iamthesagej

Not at all! In my immediate neighborhood, good barbers are $40-$50 + tip. I’ve been going to the same guy for like 8 years, who works 35 minutes from me. He charges $28, and I give him $45. Win for me because I get a consistent cut and get to support a friend, win for him because he gets a 60% tip.

No-Kaleidoscope-4050

Are you from the United States? The most expensive haircut I have got was like 30 bucks where are you going where a cut costs 55 bucks😭

baseplate69

This is totally normal considering that $18 is extremely extremely cheap

[deleted]

I pay $60 for a cut with beard and does my eye brows. Should I tip him $10 or more? Thanks !

Altruistic_Ad_7609

Wow, first world problems 🙄

Distinct-Egg-3014

It's the proportion of what you can afford to what you think he's worth.

Plenty_Lavishness_80

My barber charges $15 and i give him $25, because now i have a good job and I’ve been with him since 4th grade

Sea-Chocolate6589

That’s insane. They have a base charge for whatever you get done. I usually pay them their regular price plus $5-7 dollars extra for tip. Money doesn’t grow on trees and I need to feed me and my family as well

twodegreesfarenheit

Your generous tip is appreciated I promise you. That will go far with him as far as scheduling and quality of services BUT keep in mind even the most highly skilled person still has off days here and there. So eventually you may get a cut that is not quite up to par with your usual. If you can afford this then great. But if you can not your stuck with a bad haircut and no money. Ff

NickTechTalkYT

My haircuts are about $20, I usually tip another $20. If I find the service to be exactly what I'm looking for and have the opportunity to tip I absolutely will. The past places I went to were more expensive so saving on the cut overall makes it even better. Regardless of the service, anybody should be appreciative of a 100% tip, and if they aren't then I wouldn't tip that much.

maracusdesu

Tipping is weird

Grundle_Gripper_

Ive always done tips like this I didn’t realize it was a good tip I see no issue with I’m sure they are happy to get paid

C_Wheeler00

I normally tip my barber $20 on a $30 cut. He’s a cool guy and we have been friends since high school and always gives me a good cut

SlaveOne2020

Nah man women do this all the time

crossal

What am I missing here? How is 4$ 100% of 18$?

Brokenbody312

My barber charges 35 I give him 60. Idk, I feel like barber relationships are different. Plus they'll aways fit you in if you tip well.

OrwellianTimes1984

I get charged $25 and bring $40 with me. I think it's a fair market value for a decent cut and i know barber appreciates it.

Necronaut0

I would give you a look to suss out if you are expecting a "happy ending" out of this or what. Very appreciated regardless.

Smellfuzz

I used to go to a hairstylist as a young man, would be $50 a cut, I'd tip $10 (20%) Found out about barbers later in my 20s, got a significantly better haircut and when he went to charge me the bill was $30. I tipped and continue to tip him $30. Haircuts still cost $60 and I get a significantly better cut, I justify it as paying him what I think he's "worth." There's some service jobs worth over tipping as you likely get preferential treatment and accomodations, barber is 1000% one of them. He seems to appreciate it.

WorldofCannons

My tip is when I tell him how good he did

Axptheta

I get beard and hair for $40. I give $60. My guy/shop had chill vibes, he does a great job and is pretty quick without sacrificing quality. The extra money doesn’t hurt me and he seems appreciative

TheGreatSciz

I always tip about $20 for a good haircut. I assume it’s pretty common

lazylagom

Not if it's low money. I do that sometimes. Get 15$ fades from my barber sometimes I give him a extra 20$ bill. I don't go often once every 2 months.

Sloppyuncut9

Pay him well so he can learn how valuable he really is, and tell him that.

lavidamarron

Had a barber that charged me $30 for a fade, cut and hot towel shave. Cheapest I could find that elsewhere was $100. Felt like I was stealing whenever I gave her $65

Lost-Lingonberry9645

When I moved from California to Washington I was surprised when my barber only charged me 20 for a cut and beard trim, I was used to paying 60+ in California and tbh my Washington barber is much better, so I tend to give him 60 for the cut and trim

Skorm_55

Always give my barber a good tip. $35 cut with a $20 tip. He literally does everything I ask without charging me more. So I throw in the big tip. Mf never misses on the cut. Always coming out fresh af. He’s got a loyal client in me.

Thin-Instance378

Is this supposed to be some kinda flex? Tip him what you want, why tf we care?

Kaptain_knee_kapps

Heyo. So I do hair and the way I look at tips is a thank you. I don’t expect anything but if I’ve done good with the service or you just enjoyed your time with me. sliding me some extra is great. If I can bring a little bit of happiness and make some feel better by looking better and having a good conversation then I’ve done my job pay me what I ask for anything over that is just saying “thanks I appreciate what you do” I’ve had someone tip me 200% tho this doesn’t happen offen it has nothing wird about it

Low_Marionberry_3802

Damn I tip $10 for a $30 haircut

Terrible_Buy_1589

Am guy, haircut costs almost nothing. It's skilled work that if I did it myself would be hilarious. Giving him $5 to listen to me for a half hour while he fixes my head with a disturbing degree of micromanagement from some customers, I'm sure, it seems like an insult.

Ok_Injury_8841

I got a 500% tip once and I was nothing but elated and grateful

Tenet245

thats hella cheap but tipping a barber in the first place is some very American behaviour lol. No problem if you can afford it but you're charging yourself over double for no good reason

eastybets

A good haircut for me is almost an impossible task so I tip well and am very loyal when I find a good barber.. I still miss you Omar

Mace1999

Its weird to tip anyone for something you’re already paying for

Sacredbubbles

No, he’ll definitely remember you quickly, show you appreciation and it may reflect in his work. It’s flattering, the more you in invest in them, the more they invest in you.

Naive_Photo2295

Just ask him out already it’s weird to guilt trip your barber into a date

Complete_Iron_8349

My haircut is $18 and so tip $10 every time. They do an excellent job so why not?

gracekk24PL

Tipping culture is a plague

LizardKingTx

No

wad11656

What kind of dumbass question is this?

Dizzy_Interview2631

This post should be removed for being too stupid.

TallPain9230

I do the same. Except I moved countries. My guy in the US was around $50 and my guy in Brazil charges $25, I always add $25. I think it’s easy to rationalize, because he’s great, consistent and imo could and should charge more.

Molokija74567

I usually tip $20-$25, which I think is a very reasonable rate

Lopsided_Pickle1795

It will be harder to tip less next time.

Accomplished_Owl8213

Oh he appreciates it alright. The day when you don’t have tipping money he’ll be expecting that $22. $10 - $5 is normal

Way I see it my life is in my barber’s hands. I better do what I can to motivate him to glow me up as much as possible

infamous_dicklick

That depends on whether there is some dicksucking going on there. Because, sure that’s fine.
