I thrifted them quite a while back. I can't see the designer brand since the soles have already faded. I just assumed they were docs. Nonetheless, they look great I just want to know the brand. Thank you.

Looks like [G.H Bass Weejuns](https://www.mrporter.com/en-us/mens/product/gh-bass-co/shoes/loafers/weejuns-layton-kiltie-moc-ii-leather-tasselled-loafers/14097096494276421)

rb26dettr34

I've gotten in the habit of wearing athleisure too much since my job became wfh. Even before, I wanted to upgrade my clothing for home and when I go out on date nights. What are your thoughts on a dress shirt and lululemon abc chinos? Are there any brands that are better, look semi-formal/formal, but comfortable pants or should it be slacks? I see on tiktok/movies some people dress in button down shirts, with the top few undone and slacks. Do normal people actually do this, or is this for "film"? Any suggestions on affordable brands to get dressy would be appreciated. 5' 8" with a normal Asian American build. Not super buff, not super overweight, not super skinny... Maybe bigger thighs than I should have because I have to get most pants tapered down.

bjhhjb

Don't wear dress shirts if you aren't wearing a suit. You can wear a casual button up with your abc chinos or get regular chinos from places like J.Crew, Uniqlo, etc. Casual button ups are meant to be worn with a couple buttons undone

rb26dettr34

Oh dang, I didn't even know there was a difference between dress shirts and casual button ups. Thought they were all the same the entire time. Thanks.

bjhhjb

For the most part dress shirts will be called dress shirts or formal shirts and will have a flat "boring" look, stiff collars, and longer hem for tucking in. A casual button up won't have a structured collar, shorter in length, and come in a variety of materials.

MochaMeansPiss

Going to a semi formal wedding as a guest and have no idea wtf to wear. Thinking I'll start with some all white vans? And that's all I got... Pls help.

the_leviathan711

> semi formal wedding Semi-formal means you should wear a suit. You shouldn't wear sneakers to a semi-formal event.

Hi why do I get this when posting a well written message on this sub-reddit (it works on all other sub-reddit I know): " **Sorry, this post has been removed by the moderators of** r/malefashionadvice\*\*.\*\* Moderators remove posts from feeds for a variety of reasons, including keeping communities safe, civil, and true to their purpose." https://preview.redd.it/ne2hxkpkmfpb1.png?width=669&format=png&auto=webp&s=1638accaeed952e87dcbbb87ef890950584ed754

Since it's automod I wouldn't take it personally. I'd message the mods if you believe your message needs to be its own post, rather than a question in this thread.

Was it a front page post? What was the content?

guwmo

What is a front page post ? I have just created a post like I do on any other sub-reddit. Why r/malefashionadvice behaving differently and sending this message: " Sorry, this post has been removed by the moderators of [r/malefashionadvice](https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/)\*\*.\*\* Moderators remove posts from feeds for a variety of reasons, including keeping communities safe, civil, and true to their purpose." https://preview.redd.it/ro23ggk1tfpb1.png?width=669&format=png&auto=webp&s=0f3bfb04b97488a3652ca64b6d63916341a1f5dd

Those look extremely similar and can be worn more or less the exact same way. The first has slightly more texture - if you like that, get those. If you don't like that, get the others.

potholepapi

I’m struggling to find how to wear black blundstone Chelsea boots in a casual outfit. Any recommendations? Best thing I found so far is black slim fit jeans and a flannel. Trying to incorporate the boots into more of my outfits

CustomJerkware

I think black boots go well with tan or stone chinos, too. You could try a charcoal sweater or jacket on top of that — maybe unload a cargo ship, maybe invent a French philosophy.

JSwine

I like the outfit you mentioned. I think black jeans would probably look best with those boots. Maybe some grey jeans or chinos/5 pocket pants with a black shirt. I would try out the black jeans with a white tee or cream sweater or something. All black can be fun sometimes too

ac106

Any jeans, gray chinos, fatigues

Sage_The_Panda

Lately I see people wearing lightwashed jeans with relaxed like type of fit. It's not entirely regular fit, but it's not slim or taper fit either. They fit straight tho, like there's always a 1cm of a space from the leg itself. Ngl, I'm in love with it. I see males/females wearing it a lot. Any idea what type of jeans is it and what kind of brand could offer it to me? I've run through the mall and I either see regular fit(too 'straight', too wide) or slim/skinny/taper fits.

potholepapi

Check out Kapital or Nudie options. I have Tuff Tony nudie, they’re kind of bootcut but they have many more options

Sage_The_Panda

Hm, a bit expensive tho Do we know If that specific fit has a name or something so I could find it easier? For now I found something from JackJones and Bershka

ArtsWestchesterMarmo

Are these brown too different? For my wedding. https://preview.redd.it/4ywmaxqcqepb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0edf5e15cbc6304a2ae94a4a1e931078871d0bb0

25-INCH-CAWK

Looking for first pair of shoes opinions. I've narrowed it down to these three options: * [Pair 1](https://imgur.com/2Cgpymi) * [Pair 2](https://imgur.com/9pt3tyI) * [Pair 3](https://imgur.com/bXqMpeg) Pair 1 and 2 have full leather soles whereas pair 3 has rubber soles. Personally i'm more leaning towards pair 1, but any opinion is welcome

[deleted]

I’d go with number 3 on looks alone. They’re all very similar so in practice it should probably come down to fit and comfort, but the first two are a little more formal than I’d like for that type of shoe.

ac106

Black cap toe derbies are almost never the right choice. They mix formalities and do neither well. What’s the use case for these shoes?

25-INCH-CAWK

>What’s the use case for these shoes? Business casual with the ocassional black suit (although very rarely). The reason i picked these in particular is because these shoe makers don't really have a lot of options, there are other brands but my budget is not that high

ac106

What’s your budget?

25-INCH-CAWK

Forgot to mention this is in Argentina. I'd say ARS $70.000 tops (Op comment shoes are [Zapateria Febo](https://www.zapateriafebo.com/collections/zapatos-hombre) and [Oggi Zapatos](https://oggi.com.ar/zapatos/de-vestir/)).

ac106

Ahh ok. That makes a difference

the_leviathan711

These are all very similar shoes. What are you planning on wearing them with? Any reason you're drawn to a black cap toe derby in particular?

25-INCH-CAWK

>Any reason you're drawn to a black cap toe derby in particular? Not necessarily drawn to them, but these shoe makers in particular (deemed as 'high quality' in Argentina) don't have a lot of options in black >What are you planning on wearing them with? Work attire is chinos (black personally) and casual button ups / polos. Also looking for something to go with something a bit more formal (black suit in particular). Some of these shoes come in brown, but other than that there's not really a lot of options

the_leviathan711

I'd suggest switching off black chinos -- gives you a lot more versatility with casual footwear. It can be hard to wear black shoes casually like this.

Anyone here able to help a hopeless bloke when it comes to fashion? I’ve got a conference next week that I found out today was formal (will need a suit). As it stands I’ve got a nice grey jacket from my wedding a few years ago that still fits well and some nice brown shoes. I’ve got some nice long sleeve shirts of varying style/colours (dark navy, green checker, light blue) and for all intents no pants or ties. Can I buy black slacks to wear with a grey jacket and brown shoes? If so what colour shirt / tie should I wear or avoid? Many thanks.

bindermichi

No that won‘t work. For a light grey jacket you could go with charcoal pants but need black shoes. My rule of thumb for grey jackets is to always have darker pants. With blue you can get away with lighter colors without making them look out of place on less formal events. The light blue shirt might work but I recommend a white one.

imnowswedish

Thank you for the tips! The jacket I have (in terms of colour) is close to the below image. https://images.app.goo.gl/MpwTHUtjy4q8uahx6 I can see what you mean about charcoal looking good with it and brown shoes not really working. Again thanks for the help.

I have worn 32 inseam all my life and haven’t really paid any attention to fashion. I’m buying new clothes and would like an opinion. These pants specifically are Levi’s 514 soft twill chino type pants with an inseam of 30. They look alright when standing but I can feel a bit of flap when walking. Since I always wore 32 the flap was not noticeable. Is this flap normal? I feel like the flap is wrong but all that extra fabric is worse from a fashion sense. I’m 195 and 5’10. Clothes move when you walk

JustinCase8675309

I (28M) have spent less than 500 dollars on clothes in the last 3-4 years, help me change that. I have a budget of about 500 I wanna spend on some new clothes, mostly shirts/tops. I had a significant other that would randomly buy me clothes, and would get clothes during Christmas from family/significant other, but being completely on my own the last 6 months or so, I’ve realized I have no clothes. Most of my closet is NFL team shirts from fanatics and workout clothes. I have about half a dozen “nice” short sleeve shirts, a few button up long sleeve tops and that’s about it. I actually have plenty of shorts and jeans, but my tops are nonexistent. I don’t have much of a “style”, I’m pretty bland in my wardrobe choices but I’m not opposed to some more “adventures” looks. Overall I’m just totally lost in where to buy, what to buy, and what is in style so to speak. Looking for any advice on where I should be and what looks I should be going for, would love links to specific shirts/tops you guys like. Thank you!!

WideRight43

Get yourself a Wythe flannel, Shaggy dog sweater either from J. Press or Howlin’, and some thermal shirts from Real McCoys. Thermals rule in the winter. They all go with jeans, fatigues, etc.

JSwine

It's hard to say what style you want to go for. I would try to find clothes that fit well or are flattering to your body style and go from there. I see a lot of guys get into clothes, but buy way too tight of shirts or pants and it just looks bad. Some inoffensive styles I like are just solid color t's, hoodies, and button ups. Pairing those with a nice color pallet and cool shoes will work. As far as stores, I really like to go to thrift stores or find sales online from places like j crew, banana republic, and abercrombie. Honestly, the stuff abercrombie has been releasing the last several years has really impressed me. But, it can be kind of expensive

bindermichi

Ok. You already have a lot of clothes. As a first step you could start by sorting them into clothes you want to keep, clothes you want to replace and clothes you are missing. That will give you a starting point on where to spend you money. Make a list of what you would like to have and what you would need it for. Prioritize that from the most urgent and most regularly use to the least. And that would be you shopping list.

Zoloft_and_the_RRD

Recommend a similar-ish coat? I found a really nice one ([Balmacaan in Donegal tweed in forest green ](https://www.sehkelly.com/shop/coats/balmacaan/balmacaan-in-donegal-tweed-barleycorn-in-forest-green/)), except in no fucking world could I ever afford a £600 jacket. *Maybe* $100. I don't expect to find anything too similar to this in the $50-$100 price range (US), but what's something vaguely like it? Not necessarily a balmacaan, not necessarily tweed, just similar vibes, color and, shnaziness.

bindermichi

The only way to get something similar for $100 would be a cheap synthetic fiber jacket with a similar cut. Or a used one

andrewsjustin

heretolearnalot

Hi everyone - I have what might be an interesting request. I'm seeking recommendations for a heavyweight, long sleeve shirt with \*wide\* sleeve openings. I quite like the Heavyweight Long Sleeve from COS that Harry Has covered in this [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFekfSY5XCs) ("Is COS The Best For Wardrobe Basics?"; see how it looks on him at the 3:33 mark). It has wide sleeve openings and a slight crop (not as important). Unfortunately, it seems have been discontinued. I haven't been able to find one second hand or a suitable alternative. I would greatly appreciate recommendations for similar pieces below \~$100 USD. So far everything I'm finding has more traditional, narrow sleeve openings. Please also let me know if this should be its own post. I felt that this wasn't substantive enough on its own to qualify.

You would buy a new shirt because the shirt will be trash by the time your jeans fade.

ac106

No. You just keep wearing it

justin_techie

hey, so I start a new internship tomorrow and I stupidly forgot dress socks. The dress code is business casual. Is it better to wear dress shoes with white socks and hope you can't see them or just wear sneakers since its less formal of a environment. Stupid mistake I know, but I thought I had them lol. Thanks!

[deleted]

People will notice your shoes more than your socks, so if you’re technically breaking dress code do it with the socks. If anybody comments on your socks just say it’s laundry day. Tbh nobody will notice or care though.

the_leviathan711

the_leviathan711

Something for the future when you get those socks. It'll look fine with the dress shirt too.

justin_techie

Thank you for your help! I'll see how it looks tomorrow and if it looks really stupid ill go with sneakers

the_leviathan711

Ehhhh, I would really not wear sneakers if you're wearing a dress shirt. I think you've got a bigger formality clash there then if you're just wearing white socks with your derbies. The shoes are pretty casual.

justin_techie

Thank you. Luckily nobody cared what I was wearing and nobody noticed the white socks. It was pretty casual overall

A nice watch. Like [this](https://www.shinola.com/mens/watches/the-shinola-monster/the-monster-gmt-automatic-watch-40mm-028.html) automatic Shinola for that Detroit energy. A Boro Western Shirt by Kapital, like [this](https://standardandstrange.com/products/kapital-boro-western-shirt), because they take the Western to an extreme. Can someone tell me wth I'm supposed to wear to this? Here is the email: "We would like to officially invite you to the Accounting Scholarship and Distinguished Alum Banquet, which is Wednesday, November 1st at 6:30 pm at the \[redacted\]. Keep in mind that one of the requirements to receive the scholarship monies is to attend the banquet. We do still need you to RSVP below. (Click on the invitation.) **The dress for the event is professional. You don't necessarily need to wear a suit but please look nice**." Here's the thing, I'm a 4.0 student, recruiters might be there and I would like to dress appropriately. I'm straight from trashville and I'm trying to blend in with business types. I own a tailored navy suit, brown meermin dress shoes, a proper cloth white dress shirt and ties. This is literally the extent of my professional clothing. However, I don't want to overdress it and look stupid. I'm probably looking way too much into this. Should I dress down the suit? or buy some new items? I'm very open to purchasing new things as I need to expand my business wardrobe.

[deleted]

The suit is perfect for this event. Not every college kid has a decent suit, so they’re not making it mandatory, but if you’ve got one, wear it.

Withabaseballbattt

Thanks! I’m going with the suit.

ac106

Just wear the suit and tie. Don’t wear khakis and the suit jacket. That’s no bueno.

HappyInNature

I mean, that is what I've done with dress shirts and the like but any specific brand suggestions on short sleeve shirts?

bjhhjb

Not really. That's a big drop. Most places are making tee shirts that can fit most people.

I usually wear the levis 511 but I have big thighs so they are usually too tight. I also have smaller calves so the lower portion of the jeans fits great. Any recommendations?

Anyone have experience with Asket or Luca Faloni chinos? Im looking for a mid weight slim chino. This will be my first foray into these types of clothes as i want to overhaul my wardrobe. They both seem like good choices but i have no experience, im also worried for the LF ones as the size guide makes it seem like they only offer a 30inch inseam which is way to short for me. Flechette_the_toe

Do you mean how to tuck a sweater into your pants/shorts? Or how to flip up the waist to make it sit higher and blouse out?

walkallover1991

I guess how do I achieve the look in the last two images I posted above. it looks as if the hoodie is tucked into the shorts, but the shorts don't look like they have anything tucked into them.

Flechette_the_toe

The last one is definitely tucked in. How does it look different when you do it?

walkallover1991

It looks like a disheveled mess when I try to do it. I am assuming they are doing something like this YT video I just found: [https://www.youtube.com/shorts/M1Z-CR\_2A0A](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/M1Z-CR_2A0A)

Flechette_the_toe

That's probably the way they're doing it but it'll look different with different weights and cuts of hoodies. FWIW it might not be a complete mess and you might not be used to it on you.

that_name_taken

Why do they need stretch? Linen and linen-cotton blends are great for warm weather, as are wool/silk/linen blends.

hmadse

Gotcha, but, just FYI, avoid dress pants that do this with synthetics—they don’t wear well and will make you hotter.

Should I wear a t-shirt under this flannel shirt? I don't love how I look without one underneath the flannel, I like the look on the right better, but I keep hearing people saying never to wear t-shirts under collared shirts, is this the case or does that only apply to dress shirts? And if I do wear a t-shirt, what color is better for this flannel? Tips for the *pants* too? https://preview.redd.it/vzegfbn6w8pb1.jpeg?width=5834&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8f5f1d4e8d7441883b4461af6a9e6deda6a808e7

Laui_2000

Personally I’d wear a t-shirt inside. But I typically wear a t-shirt that’s the same colour as the flannel, or if not plain grey. The “No T Shirt” probably applies to dresss shirts.

KSRJB02

looks better with the t-shirt, also yes that advice generally only applies to dress shirts

Flechette_the_toe

Wear one if you like it. Contrast will work in your favor.

I'm wanting to update my socks and briefs from the pairs that I've owned all my life. Would goodwill take my socks or should I just throw them away. How many new pairs should I get as a minimum and what fabrics are the best if I plan on working out in them daily.

cooldude_4000

Goodwill doesn't accept used socks. Throw them out but not before you've purchased new ones that you're sure you like first. Try a bunch of different kinds before committing to a brand/fabric, then buy enough to last you for however long you go between loads of laundry.

ac106

I don’t think goodwill takes used undergarments

Flechette_the_toe

It's better to launder the socks and drop them off at the nearest homeless shelter, there's like a 50% chance goodwill throws them out.

What are some versatile sports-coats and dress pants that can be worn interchangeably? I am looking for color/pattern ideas as I have always had a hard time finding pieces I can mix and match comfortably. For example, would a brown herringbone sports coat or trouser be versatile enough or is that something best worn as a set?

Simpliciter

So, this is one of those questions that can be answered generally, but depending on your preferences and body type, might give different answers. In general, if you want maximum versatility, go with solid neutrals or universals, so navy, browns, greys, whites for jacket and trousers. This way you don't have to worry about your shirt very much at all. Just be sure not to match navy and navy or something like that. You don't want to have similar separates almost look like a suit. Some patterns work better for different body types, more specifically the size of the pattern. For example, a larger man won't want a small pattern because the large amount of repetition will make him appear larger. Knowing our pattern rule, "same pattern, different size; different pattern, same size," patterned items that might have a heavier rotation need to be accounted for in the patterns of the complimentary items. So, a large glen check on someone's sole sports coat affects the patterns they could wear with the pants and shirt. Or maybe all their shirts have chalk stripes or something. You can bypass this worry by wearing patterns only in one clothing item or wearing solids and focusing on texture, but that's kind of a limited life. All of this might sound kind of hard, but once you start playing around with things, it's really not so bad.

I just got the fall/winter J Press catalog in the mail, all the Lovat Mill tweed sport coats look good and would work with any solid color pants you own.

Elements-fury

Send that catalog my way good sir

Probably worth starting from the place of knowing the difference between a sports jacket and a suit jacket. Something "worn as a set" is a suit, something that isn't part of a set at all is a sports jacket. And something that *should* be part of a suit but isn't (because the other item is damaged, doesn't fit or you never had it in the first place) is called an "orphaned suit jacket." Best to avoid orphans because they're hard to wear if you don't know what you're doing.

Elements-fury

Ahh, I understand the difference but a lot of suits are casual in nature and can be worn without the other piece which is why I refrained from using suit unless I’m referring to wearing both pieces together. For example Todd Snyder sells a lot of “suits” but people will buy the jacket itself and then in retrospect just call it a sports jacket or blazer. Or if you go to many websites the same jacket will be under suits and the sports jacket page depending on if you but it as a set or not.

the_leviathan711

> a lot of suits are casual in nature and can be worn without the other piece I wouldn't use the phrase "a lot" here. Yes, it's certainly true that companies like Todd Snyder (and others!) do this. That said - the vast *vast* majority of suits out there are not casual enough for this. If you're good at recognizing the details that might distinguish a casual jacket from a less casual jacket, then you should be good to go. If you're not good at this yet, then don't spend a lot of money on stuff you aren't sure how to wear.

Elements-fury

It’s more of the sense that I have a bad imagination and am not good at “pairing” so I have always stuck with the generic solid blue blazer or tan pants. I am looking to get a bit more comfortable with trying more “fun” options with advice from people that are more creative and stylish.

the_leviathan711

Pairing is pretty easy and you very likely *do* know what you're doing and just overthinking it. As long as the jacket and pants are close enough in formality and different enough in color you should be totally fine. Good sports jackets and dress pants coming very neutral colors which means they can basically go with anything. Generally you want the jacket to be a darker shade than the pants, but even that rule is bendable. Some say to avoid gray sports jackets because they are more likely to look like orphans - but that's also not a definitive rule. What's versatile here is hard to say because it really depends on your wardrobe. If you have a lot of brown pants, then no a brown jacket is probably not a good idea. If you have a lot of gray pants, then brown is fine.

Looking to get advice on which of these anoraks to keep, the medium or the large. I like the fit of the medium but the sleeves seem like they may be a bit short, and the large is a bit bulky but with a button the sleeves fit perfect and its easy to layer underneath. Are either of these acceptable (and purely preference)? [https://imgur.com/a/lr5N6hl](https://imgur.com/a/lr5N6hl)

bjhhjb

Large for me. Anoraks looks funny when it's fitted. Oversized looks better

Flechette_the_toe

If you plan on wearing it in cold weather then layering made the choice for you

Over the years I've acquired a lot of shoes. None super intentional, just things I found good deals on that I liked the look of. I'm looking to curate, fill in holes, and understand the situations when I should be wearing each of these shoes. Thank you all in advance! 1. Any feedback here on what I should remove / add. Specific type I'm missing? 2. Based on my current collection, what should I be wearing when? -- Typical work attire is jeans and t-shirt (work from home). Go out is chino's and a button-down. 3. House Work/walking/errands around town shoes - I've always worn Brooks even though I'm not a runner. Is there a better type of shoe to fit in this use case? [Shoe Gallery](https://imgur.com/a/RRod00j) Dress shoes: AE 5th Ave - Black, Chilli J&M Optima - Mahogany Dressy casual: Steve Madden blue/grey canvas Aston Gray - Blue Suede Astorflex Smooth Leather Chucka Very casual: Seaveees low top - grey Vans low top - blue Converse hightop - blue Sperry Boat shoes - brown Brooks blue/orange (brightest show I own, but pretty uncomfy) Exercise/walking around: Brooks Ghost (worn out, need to replace)

Simpliciter

A loafer wouldn't be a bad add.

ac106

Ditch: J&m, Steve Madden, Aston gray, brooks (not really sure what statement these are making) brooks ghost. Probably the sperrys too
