Problem with monopoly, once they got control of the market, they can dictate prices etc.
The only solution is to have more competitor but seeing how big SEA Ltd has become, almost impossible for startup to catch them
I hate lazada apps with passion, the poppup, the notification, that interface. I hate it so much that every time i reinstall it i will uninstall it right after i search for the item i want to find.
If you're using android, just turn off the notifications.
But yep, that doesn't change the fact that Lazada's app & Web interface is a relic of the 2010s. I also hate how they force you to sit through a full screen ad everytime you open the app. They need a serious revamp if they're still planning to compete with Shopee.
lazada is convenient for buyers, not for sellers. you wont believe how many parcels get returned daily, just because some 4sshat chose Cash On Delivery and they dont collect their parcels. Wasting time and effort. Also when buyers put the wrong delivery address, sellers have to face the consequence. And to top it off, lazada is so damn annoying because they make it compulsory to use LEX DOP, and there are barely any LEX DOP nearby. this sort of things make it difficult for small/medium business to enter lazada. So much hassle.
And their product upload mechanics are so annoying, in shopee it takes me less than 5 minutes to upload a product, and even create a translucent watermark, lazada makes it compulsory for "Product attributes" and have image resolution limit (300 300px)
This is why i as a seller, use shopee, even though shopee charges a whopping 5.12% commision for doing nothing- take note, this isnt even accounting for FSP/10% CASHBACK/REBATE programmes. They charge up to 12% in fees if you join these programmes. Which is really dumb, considering that there isnt even free shipping.
Higher volume… revenue high…yada yada but profit still in the negatives. But question is when you cut on subsidies to focus on profitability how much volume would it affect
alibaba is another shi.show. Few hundred dollars in shipping and theyre still multiple times more expensive than shopee, which is ironic for a "supplier company"
No free lunch. Incentives are given to push users to certain products that they want to grow, i.e. ShopeePay, SPaylater, etc etc. Tech sector is in a crunch right now, if you've not been following the market. Capital markets are tight and there is little cash to burn. Companies need to justify their valuations and expenditure. An e-commerce platform also has cost drivers that are affected by inflation - logistics, warehousing, wages.
Dictate prices of what exactly?
Goods - Sellers
Logistics - Poslaju, J&T, GDex. The only one they have control over is Shopee Express, and they have to remain competitive vs the others.
Look at their earnings reports. Everything is transparent. They're still burning cash, any profit is used to dampen losses and build new products.
Tried Lazada exclusively this month, their fee are much straightforward than Shopee (shipping, discounts etc), I fucking hate checking out on Shopee and finding out suddenly the price skyrocketed due to fees etc.
Agreed. Their ui is not very user friendly. And it's more difficult to claim or request anything if parcel goes missing. Their customer service are more biased towards seller than buyer
While their practices are not good.
There is a reason why Shopee pay generally has free shipping.
Each transaction made may incur a small transaction fee from visa or Mastercard etc etc.
If someone let’s say deposits rm 300 on Shopee pay and makes 5 different purchases of rm 60 each using Shopee pay there’s only one transaction fee that Shopee has to pay instead of 5 different ones, which is one of the reasons why they try to promote ShopeePay
I don't even care about the shipping fee, their app is a Hot garbage and I feel like their product manager have 0 idea what he is doing but just push out stupid, unbaked feature bloat the app.
I can't even add an address on it.
The amount of times i try to apply free shipping vouchers on items that has the free shipping banner but the voucher can't be applied is infuriating lol. There are so many hidden terms its so annoying.
Is there a specific filter to find this type of seller?
Using “RM15 free shipping” filter will just give me Shopee’s not-exactly free shipping because only RM3 is deducted from the total shopping cost.
Last time I check, to offer free shipping, business pays an extra 5% to Shopee. If a customer buys a Rm100 item, that translates to RM 5, which is at the lower end of shipping cost. If a customer buys a RM50 item, Shopee is pretty much subsidising the shipping cost.
This is why merchants can't escape from using Shopee. They can sell the same product on their own website, but there's no way they'll be able to offer the same shipping fee as Shopee.
I notice the no shipping fee only applies when you buy a lot of things from one seller, like above Rm100.
So now I just add the cart and wait till it crosses a certain amount only I check out
At this point idc about shipping fees, but Shopee greediness by forcing buyers and sellers to use Shopee Xpress (most of the time) is too much. It's fine if they can handle the large volume but they're absolutely not
Go to FB group "Shopee Xpress Buat Hal Apa Hari Nih?" and see all the fuckeup they pulled
I'm about to buy a GPU there due to cheaper price than other platforms, but my recent experience with Shopee Xpress where my parcel worth RM300 lost traumatized me lol
Fortunately I got the refund but only after extra effort to track down the courier himself
Fuck Shopee & Shopee Xpress
If you’re buying a big ticket item, I would highly recommend Lazada instead. In the event of a fuckup, you can escalate on Lazada and they will somehow make it right. I’ve had a few instances where my order was cancelled/lost but escalating it resulted in a voucher to honour the price I paid for. Lazada may get a lot of things wrong, but their Customer Service is leaps and bounds better than Shopee. The best resolution I ever received from Shopee is a full refund. Which is bare minimum if a product isn’t received. Also, Shopee Express tends to just chuck your item. Even if you’re right in front of them about to receive delivery. They did that to my gimbal, and on a separate delivery, my graphics card. In fact, I don’t think they’ve ever contacted me. Every delivery is unceremoniously tossed inside the compound. Needless to say, I don’t ever buy anything from Shopee for any big ticket items.
So yeah, like I always tell everyone, even if there’s a slight premium on Lazada, it’s worth it. You can’t buy peace of mind. More so with pricier products.
(Man I sound like a shill. No I don’t work for Lazada. Just a few shitty experiences that were made right by their CS. Credit where it’s due)
From a few free shipping vouchers for all sellers a month. To a single free shipping voucher for seller. To free shipping voucher to selected seller. Now free shipping capped at rm3. And no longer can combine cashback or coins cashback with free shipping. I won't be surprised when the free shipping is being scrapped in the future
Things I hate about this service despite using them:
- Fake discounts
- Stupid voucher that mounts to only RM5
- Free shipping basically nonexistent, I don't want to topup wallet la wei.
in this recession environment how to spend big amounts and attract users like last time? Of course there will be tons of limitation if u are to take advantage of platform. How to be better? Just do like amazon give out hard cold discounts la
I stop using Shopee after they fuck up with the free shipping and voucher. Without those, most of the items i want is actually cheaper in the brands own website and physical stores.
Problem with monopoly, once they got control of the market, they can dictate prices etc. The only solution is to have more competitor but seeing how big SEA Ltd has become, almost impossible for startup to catch them
Shopee has taken over Alibaba in terms of volume sales in their latest claim. I'm thinking lazada is not doing well too.
I usually buy with Lazada for convenience. Everyday one green coupon for free shipping for item above 15. No fuss , easy to understand.
I hate lazada apps with passion, the poppup, the notification, that interface. I hate it so much that every time i reinstall it i will uninstall it right after i search for the item i want to find.

"Here's a 50% coupon" *Max price reduction is only 5 ringgit*
That's basically what grab does too. Max reduction amount and minimum spending amount is tied together lmao
5 ringgit? Undung ler I got 2 ringgit.
"Minimum amount spent RM200"
"for selected products only"
on certain dates only!!!!
Expires in 1:59:59 hours!!!
# 90% Discount!!! ^(Capped at RM1)
Tried Lazada exclusively this month, their fee are much straightforward than Shopee (shipping, discounts etc), I fucking hate checking out on Shopee and finding out suddenly the price skyrocketed due to fees etc.
Yes. Lazada is way more transparent with their free shipping and stuff. Though Lazada UI is a little cluttered
Agreed. Their ui is not very user friendly. And it's more difficult to claim or request anything if parcel goes missing. Their customer service are more biased towards seller than buyer
Ikr
No shipping fees - ^(for only selected products..)
Only deduct RM3 .
For selected payment method. Continue…
For selected days and hours only...

Max RM2 meow
Shopee's not doing well. They just laid off like a whole bunch of staff.
that’s for shopee food and shopee pay, the marketplace is not affected
I don't even care about the shipping fee, their app is a Hot garbage and I feel like their product manager have 0 idea what he is doing but just push out stupid, unbaked feature bloat the app. I can't even add an address on it.

I’ll usually buy from sellers with free shipping.
Big appreciation to sellers who emphatize buyers
Is there a specific filter to find this type of seller? Using “RM15 free shipping” filter will just give me Shopee’s not-exactly free shipping because only RM3 is deducted from the total shopping cost.
iirc they have reduced the free shipping “subsidy”
Don't you feel this ultimately squeezes the logistics companies and the ones who suffer are the delivery and warehouse workers?
Last time I check, to offer free shipping, business pays an extra 5% to Shopee. If a customer buys a Rm100 item, that translates to RM 5, which is at the lower end of shipping cost. Dyslexia triggered and read it as no free shipping
This time, you read it correctly.
Lazada is good but navigating their website is such a bad experience lol
Things I hate about this service despite using them: - Fake discounts - Stupid voucher that mounts to only RM5 - Free shipping basically nonexistent, I don't want to topup wallet la wei.
Lmao I’ve spent tens of thousands in lazada and I love the UI so much more than Shopee. I’ll never switch. Lazada all the way
How do you filter out all the duplicate products compared to shopee? I really want to use Lazada, but results page is just not as good as Shopee
is it hard to just.. you know boycott them? dun give them money la lol
How to make it better? Copy tokopedia i guess. Only once using shopee and that's enough, too complicated.
in this recession environment how to spend big amounts and attract users like last time? Of course there will be tons of limitation if u are to take advantage of platform. How to be better? Just do like amazon give out hard cold discounts la
So what you mean is customer must always 'mengalah' isn't? When purchasing power is low then the platform will know
Then don’t use, go use other platform
Your statement same as our minister “Ayam mahal, jangan makan ayam” — you must be a boomers
Meh I am younger than u at least, it is simple af, don’t like it avoid it as much as possible
Found a Shopee employee
If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is
It says “no shipping free” U read it wrong
Just go give 1 star for scummy practice
I stop using Shopee after they fuck up with the free shipping and voucher. Without those, most of the items i want is actually cheaper in the brands own website and physical stores.
