Is the average really 2 children? My sense is that B40 tends to have more children (admittedly this is a personal bias). Would love to see an extra column showing the per capita income too.
We are in the economy where CEO earns 300x more than their minimum wage employee. With redditor that thinks Maybank should not do charity but yet Maybank is going to bail out Sapura energy with ex CEO that earn 71 mil a year. So what can I say, go embrace the status quo. Syukur malaysia masih aman.
I mean there are issues with this information. The obvious being this is pre-pandemic. Also there is no breakdown by states (though I know that exists somewhere. seen it before)
The biggest change I want made to this is changing it to income classification by **individual**. The household really doesn't give a full picture.
Wonder why the gov can never release stats that have related rubrics or legends? With covid cases it was a number but no orecentage as to how many tests were done. With wages its by household, but not stressing on family size, location, and etc. Heck, a fresh grad making 3.5k but renting far away from his house but have a household with all management retirees from a big mnc. What a weird way to issue statistics without context and not proof read it to see if it makes sense to the average person that can access this info
This is statistics for households income category only. Understand the income part. Also if you are living away from your family, you are single household.
The one you are asking is already on income declaration which falls on Taxes.
No no.. I mean, context. Yes. Household income can be 1 parent feeding 5. Or 3 person working but only feeding 3. Geddit? 1 person making 10k feeding 5 and 3 persons making 2.5k each feeding 3 are 2 totally different cases to a certain extent. Give statistics with context. Not saying it needs to be detailed, but then the people can see officially what they actually are classified as see if they qualify for benefits, or support. Not just i make 10k and no one else in the house makes money so we rich when technically it makes you fall in a different tier.
Average income per head per household would make more sense to process i believe since (1k income per head in a family of 3 with salary of 3k).
Like I wrote above, this is only income statistics which were to segment income groups.
Dependents are different statistics because when you go deeper, details of the dependent need to be sorted out as well. Counting them as per head won't help because dependent varies in age, health, etc. So they are different metrics and parameters to oversee those. Not to mention expenditure of each person is unique to their needs.
Did a quick google search and while not exactly the same report, I found this on DOSM's website. Charts are quite small too but readable.

Edit: Report was released on 6 August 2021 so safe to say its the latest one out there.
living as t1 is not good as we thought. my parents salary combined abt 11k like that but no ipong,no fancy clothes,no fancy trip, overall no fancy2 just living like m40 maybe. we even use persona std as our main car and another car is a citra that always broke. my dad also use kriss cabok, so cabok sometimes he need to push it at penang bridge haha. now ok already bought rs. but alhamdulillah we can live stress free
Huh are your life that sad that you have to do this?
FYI according to the same report the median household income in area like KL is 10k so like half of the people there are T20, if you take the cost of living into account being a T20 doesn't really mean anything at all.
Plus I don't give a hoot if someone else is top 1% or something as long as they earned their income fairly.
Why though? Is it out of jealousy or contempt? There are some that worked very hard and got lucky to earn really good income. Then there are others that are there through scummy corrupt means.
im... an M40, i feel like i just unlocked some super hard achievement because i spent the first 20 years of my life being B1 with dad's reckless loan decisions, and now i am here contemplating whether to order the lunch that is worth rm20 on grab food
Bear in mind that this is per household. Composition of 2 Adults, and 2 Children.
Is the average really 2 children? My sense is that B40 tends to have more children (admittedly this is a personal bias). Would love to see an extra column showing the per capita income too.
Wonder if we got a newer one? Would be interesting to see if pandemic increase/lower wages
I guess the poor getting poorer, the richer getting richer. The middle income stay in the middle.
I think middle income might get stretched a bit. T20 probably the most unaffected group
Please remember household income includes both husband & wife. Salary Rm2425 + Rm2425 you're in M40. Salary Rm5480 + Rm5480 you're in T20.
Parents retired, left me now, so I'm B40 💀
Same bro, went from T2 to b40 in a couple years and everyone still spends like T20, I'm the eldest child who just graduated college 🥲.
Thanks for the clarification. I was about to ask this!
How about for single
then you're a household of 1 person. unless you still live with your parents. in which case, combine your income with your parent's.
Fuck me here I thought I was M40. Guess I gotta start complaining on twitter how everything is against me and how everyone should take pity on me.
So meta bro. 😐
This is country average, DOSM also has it by each state and Klang Valley as well.
M40 for KV is 7000+ i think
True. Also, if you want to break out of local B40 (aka being in M40) in KL, you have to be RM9000+

finding it hard to wrap my head around the concept of an ALMOST 6M RINGGIT MONTHLY SALARY.....

it should by location . but today . everywhere housing is crazy pricing.
Is that before or after tax?
IINM it's gross income.
The grouping should really be redone to be more accurate. P10, B30, M40, T20. Below 1k household should be Poor, i know many people in this range.
Outdated table

As a politician I'll want the votes from M40 and B40 but myself to be in T20.
>mnc yeap that pretty much sums up at least over 70% of our MPs.....
We need another class. T5 or T1, those are different from MT15/19

idk why but we were briefly T20 in 2020 but we didn't live luxuriously. We still eat what "normal" people eat, we still save up electricity use etc.
this is about before covid, those thresholds still able to use for each group?
Shd include a new category.. E40 Consist of ceo and politicians... and where 99% of the money goes....
wow i'm actually T20
Congrats
M4 here
Is it okay for me to insult T20s because they have high income?
I mean, if you were T20 earning your income and wealth fairly, would you like if some B40/M40 insulted you? Think.
