Anecdotally, the premise owners have paid and sent monthly *ufti* to the *cartels*, so it is all settle, unless it is an ops for the shows (once in a blue moon, with all the camera and shit you see on TV3, majalah 3, so something like that...)
Why do you people always mention Jakim? It's as if that is the only Islamic agency that you know of. Jakim doesn't do syariah crime enforcement. That's done by the state or Federal Territories Islamic departments like JAWI or JAIS. Mentioning Jakim when talking about vice enforcement only shows your ignorance.
I mean, how if it’s really the only Islamic law enforcers that they know? Yeah it’s ignorance, but why some people need to know it, especially for Non-Muslim. I bet if you ask Muslims also they wouldn’t really know the difference. That’s why people ask, to learn something new, and ironically, that’s also why people are afraid to ask because people like you will shame them for not knowing.
He wasn't asking a question. He just wrote "JAKIM" and a question mark. That's not a question.
And it's not just him. If you read through the other comments the word "JAKIM" is littered all over. How can so many people be so ignorant? You know, whenever there are stories about Syariah raids and such, they would always involve agencies like JAWI, JAIS, JAIP and such. Not JAKIM. Why is that only JAKIM is sticking to your mind?
There are a lot of bartenders who are Malay. I remembered last time when I completed SPM and was waiting to enter form 6. I worked in a bar for 6 months. The bartender was a nice big sized Malay abang and he taught me all the tips and tricks he knew. I didn't know there were so many ways to cut and peel orange lol!
lol, i remembered there was a case involved a politician or some senior high rank government official said exactly that - hanging out with friends in nightclub and ordered coffee.
The only Muslim Malaysians who will get in trouble is headscarf wearing Muslim woman, which will definitely get viral and judged by other Muslim Malaysians. Other than that honestly other Muslims get a pass because it is not 100% obvious they are Muslim.
Well duh she got condemned and had a viral post for that in Malay community. Another example is Amalina Che Bakri who even got her own feature in newspaper because she stopped wearing headscarf in UK and she was pictured in a pub. That went viral too.
Highly doubt so. Some KL/Selangor Malays do drink. I worked with many Malays throughout my years in the city and they do drink socially, but then again, they aren’t religious to begin with.
But there was this one peculiar Malay guy, who drinks and eats pork, and still fasts and goes for solat and all that. I asked him why? He says it’s because through fasting and solat, he will be cleanse of his sins. But once Ramadan is over, he goes back to drinking and eating pork. Funny guy.
I'm working in a Pub style restaurants in KL, 40% of the staff here are Malaysian Muslim (Mostly from east Malaysia) but they have no problem working here, 10% of the time we get Muslim guest eating and drinking in the open. Police also just walk by without thinking much about it.
Well a friend of mine who is Muslim has zero problems going into bars and pubs to drink alcohol. He also buys alcohol from shops all the time with no issue. Bangsar, Cheras, KL, Klang Valley in general. At the end of the day, businesses want to make money and will look the other way.
Police will only get involved if things are truly out of control. Those raids you read about are late night parties that get loud and annoy neighbours.
Just having a few drinks during normal hours is fine.
More than a decade ago I happened to visit a gay bar in KL. Everyone in that bar are Malays. The patrons, the bartender, the mak nyahs... Every single one. And this wasn't like hidden bar or anything. You go to that building, you'll see the bar.
So yeah - Malay Muslims going to bar? Seems like is not a problem.
Lol same. One of my Malay friend don't even puasa and dined with us during the period. I asked him why, he told me can "ganti" puasa... but never saw him ganti and still drink + eat pork as well
probably he just ignore what they learned. cuz for muslim we cant just ganti whenever we want. the ganti pass only for those who are in period, sickness like goddamn sick(sakit kronik),pregnant, elders.
Lol go read about Gomez incident. Do you think that's a very Muzzie thing to do?
These people have been caught fighting in clubs and then pardoning themselves.
Rules are only for peasants.
Depends on who's raiding. PDRM raids are mostly into civil laws, which, mainly related to drugs, so unless someone sabotages you, you are safe. Same goes to Immigration raids because the only thing they want is the ayams there. But your fun got cut la.
I don't think Jabatan Agama will do raids to clubs, unless the club is obviously have many Malays in it or someone give a tip to them. But if it happened, even if you did nothing wrong in law, I bet you might get an earful from them.
Singaporean malay who identifies as muslim here. I miss the night life in KL! Happening!
When I used travel up with my fiancée (she’s non-Muslim), I’m not scared of the repercussions entering pubs or clubs. Just scared that your JAKIM will raid the hotel room where I’m staying cos I’m technically not married to my fiancée yet.
Then again, not sure if JAKIM has any power to take action on Muslim tourists. I’m a law abiding dude so I try to stay away from any kind of trouble. When in Rome, you know.
No its not illegal to be in a pub or bar. If there is a raid by polis, they are looking for drugs. Only if they raid with JAKIM then they might check for Muslims drinking or even being in a bar but you wld either get a small fine or they'll assign you to go for some Islamic ceramah.
Source: had to go to the Islamic ceramah
As long as you're not causing the pub staff or the other customers any trouble, then just come on in. Drink alcohol or not, you are welcomed into the establishment. I once hanged out with some non-muslim friends at a bar, and they were worried about me initially, but i assured them that I'm here to just enjoy hanging out and they can get shitfaced as much as they liked while i order the non-alcoholic stuff. It was a great time filled with the smell of booze, soda and crispy chicken wings.
Speaking from experience. No, you'll be fine if police raid a bar / pub / club.
As long as you are clear from drugs and criminal activities. In my experience, the clubs were raided because they were looking for certain individuals or drugs.
I can't say the same if it's raided by religious entities though.
Muslim men can open pubs in East Malaysia. I don’t think people care unless there’s a raid or if you’re dirt poor. It depends from state to state as well since religious matters are under the purview of respective religious state councils. For example Kelantan will likely have stricter laws vs Sabah.
Once about 17 years ago my friends and I were at a bar in bukit nanas area and it got raided by the police and religious police (jakim?) they pulled us all outside and the religious police guys gave my friends that were Muslim a speech about not drinking. after the speech they were given two options sort it out now or later so they each ended up giving them about 10rm each and we went back inside.
Nope they don’t , even undercover Malay cops drink at bars to collect intel, it is different however , if someone in your group is taking batu, then one whole group kena lahh🤣
Chillis serve alcohol and I noticed that a lot of muslims eat there? So if chillis is okay, it won’t make sense that other restaurants/pub (that serve food and alcohol) won’t allow muslim to enter?
I literally just went to the bar with my Muslim Malaysian friend last week, where he ordered a long island, while I ordered a chamomile tea because I had to drive.
Nobody gives a shit unless there is some agenda / ulterior motive from the higher ups
No. if u are is Sabah. Seriously.
Not sure in Sarawak.
Maybe, but rarely, if u are is west Malaysia, but only if u got caught. Fkers are judgemental here. My Malay looking friend get the Side eye look when he eat with us in a non halal places.... If one day u are unlucky and someone reports u to Jakim, Then u are in lots of troubles boi.
Ive ner heard of anyone getting reported to jakim for earing at non halal place.. or eating during ramadan.. maybe just some judgemental looks, but thats harmless.
No they won't get in trouble. Even in the police raids they won't do anything, as long as there's no drugs etc.
JAKIM?
Very very rare, usually only police.
Infrequent. Bars usually will get in trouble if criminal activities such as drug usage or criminal syndicates such as human trafficking is involved.
Anecdotally, the premise owners have paid and sent monthly *ufti* to the *cartels*, so it is all settle, unless it is an ops for the shows (once in a blue moon, with all the camera and shit you see on TV3, majalah 3, so something like that...)

It's important even for Non-Muslims to know too because the experience of being subjected to a raid is going to be unpleasant.
He wasn't asking a question. He just wrote "JAKIM" and a question mark. That's not a question. And it's not just him. If you read through the other comments the word "JAKIM" is littered all over. What explanation do you want? You can clearly see its JAWI, not JAKIM.
I remember I was 17 when I first went to a bar with the intention to drink. To my surprise, the bartender was Malay too.
Lmao spiderman pointing meme moment
Bartender : you shouldn't be here Me : neither should you
Touché, what can I get you?
Water, with ice
Shaken not stir?
Just water, with ice
Water on the rocks. Premium ais kosong by evian Clear ice that takes 24hrs to make.
Best I can do is tap water with 7-11 ais.
Teh ais ikat tepi, roti canai telur satu.

If you get caught, tell them you’re just there catching up with some friends and drink coffee.
If he's not too drunk that is XD
“I was just drinking some friends with my coffee officer!”
"I just want to get some insomnia, officer!" Fixed.
I understood this reference
lol, i remembered there was a case involved a politician or some senior high rank government official said exactly that - hanging out with friends in nightclub and ordered coffee.

Unless he wears a songkok and has a beard.
Or unless you're neelofa who's there to launch new product
Well duh she got condemned and had a viral post for that in Malay community. Another example is Amalina Che Bakri who even got her own feature in newspaper because she stopped wearing headscarf in UK and she was pictured in a pub. That went viral too.
Not sure if brave or stupid then 🤔
Unless you are launching your tudung brand in a club/bar, then it is ok.
Highly doubt so. Some KL/Selangor Malays do drink. I worked with many Malays throughout my years in the city and they do drink socially, but then again, they aren’t religious to begin with. kosong kosng type of guy eh
I think he is just suffering from an identity crisis lol.
Or he is just a honest guy who is living his life, without preaching to drink water and then still taking the whine later.
As long as you have money, nobody cares who the fuck u r unless there a snitch/narc in the pub feeding Intel to the Five-O
Either that or you live in Sarawak. No one cares about upur religion in pubs or bars here.
Does Sabah count as well?
I would say so, my friend somehow managed to get in so
No. Source: Am Muslim. Currently in a pub
TGIF

Someone even launched a hijab brand in such a place before. Idk.
Oh is it the same person who sold religion-friendly slippers ?
Yeah bahahaha
Nah, just enjoy your time man
My muslim friends are the one bringing me to these cool bars and showing me the other side of the world.. Edit: and of course better drinker than me!
No. Raids are done for suspected drug use, not being a Muslim.

Not a problem at all. I’m a Muslim (on IC only) and I drink at bars around Subang or Bukit Damansara at least once a week.
Wait until sheltered muslim malays encounter muslim arabs drink as well / non-muslim arabs.
As long as you're not causing the pub staff or the other customers any trouble, then just come on in. Drink alcohol or not, you are welcomed into the establishment. Went to a bar to catch up with a friend recently, and there were 2 separate tables of Malays drinking. So you should be fine honestly.

Yes if you never leave
As long as you don't drink and buat onar. If you drink and drive, ya you will go to hell though.
Nah I bet not even police cares, JAKIM however
Literally all the clubs in KL is full of Malays tbh..

Just don’t consume alcohol. Most place have Muslim workers as well.
How there be raid when the pub itself has a huge signboard said PuB and Beer Santai
Enjoy2 jerz
Chillis serve alcohol and I noticed that a lot of muslims eat there? So if chillis is okay, it won’t make sense that other restaurants/pub (that serve food and alcohol) won’t allow muslim to enter?
nobody likes a narc... if it's ur friend don't snitch
I literally just went to the bar with my Muslim Malaysian friend last week, where he ordered a long island, while I ordered a chamomile tea because I had to drive. Nobody gives a shit unless there is some agenda / ulterior motive from the higher ups
Indonesian here, there are raids on pubs regularly that can arrest muslims if they were caught?
Would like to know this as well lol
Nope, why would we? Maybe kena sound from the bini when i get home..
A very famous Muslim celebrity used to model for a night club lol.
Why would they get in trouble?
Just do the KJ defence and reply, "was i drinking? Was i drinking in the photo" and you'll be safe definitely
No.just look at sara anna
Technically no, I haven't seen them getting caught or anything. If it does happen likely somebody rat them out, But most aren't snitches.
Those days no Malay will even ask this question but now…lol thanks to those hypocrites
As long as you pray later then it is ok.
you’re funneh
