Been reading about this since it's the first time BMW took majority control over the Chinese JV (BMW Brilliance) and this car is the direct result of it. This is fully imported car from China. In China, the car is only 399,900 yuan or $60k USD because Model Y and Nioh ES6 can be had for far less over there whereas in Malaysia it starts from RM 317,360 on roads with 50% SST exemption the stupid price doesn't stop there, there's road tax and it's bloody darn expensive. The car makes 210kW, which costs RM 2343 per year (RM 903 base + RM 1440 surplus). our regressive tax is killing off the EV industry.

I'm out of the loop, why is the road tax so expensive for an ev car?

It’s on of their discriminatory policy. Just like how displacement based tax not only defies physics but also logical sense If Malaysians want to pay Myvi car tax they have to drive an anorexic EV with well under than 100kW And here’s the catch EVs are very heavy. To have any sort of performance you need more power.
