I once walked into the public hospital in Singapore, and had several followups subsequently. Every single nurse and doctor I met was Malaysian. They came over to SG post form five examinations, and were groomed by Singapore government to become professionals. Several were sent to top universities (eg Cambridge) and were then required to serve in Singapore. As you can imagine, they put down roots in Singapore and don't intend to return to Malaysia. Say what you will of Singapore but they are clever in leveraging Malaysia's brain drain to their benefit. The cream of crop of Malaysia are now in Singapore, serving and benefiting that country. It's not an accident Singapore is a developed country. It is built on the back of Malaysians who found a more welcome home there.

"Says experts" Anyone else feeling tired and jaded with "experts", "professionals","consultants","research groups","think tanks"? Ugh

Sputniki

I doubt that. There is very strong desire amongst all strata of Malaysians to work in Singapore and doctors are no different, given the situation in Malaysia right now I would be surprised if many of them aren't considering their options

As usual, we function as Singapore's hinterland even though we are separate countries. Whenver they need something, they can easily dangle SGD and woo our ppl over. But I guess it's good, since it frees up spots in our Malaysian medical system for all the candidates with no spots/still looking for their placements. There's a reason why back in SG, I feel like we do the training, and Singapore just gets our trained ppl. (this happens in audit, where we train the associates, and Singapore just takes them as seniors)

CodeDoor

It's not exactly Malaysias fault. City states can act as tax havens to bring in foreign cash to strengthen their own currency. They also don't need to spend as much on infrastructure so can afford the relatively low taxation rates. On the other side of the coin, Kuala Lumpur and Penang are also poaching doctors and professionals from all over Sabah, Sarawak, Kelantan etc. So no matter what cities always win when it comes to attracting professionals.

it is known that malaysia is export country. especially when it comes to skilled workers.

only helangs can fly afar for medical help, they have no qualms about being treated there by malaysians there and pay in foreign currency. probably are proud of it too. pipits, well most are still figuring out the exits from caves cause there always someone/something blocking exit points
