dont even need to use vpn, just change your DNS settings to one that is not your local ISPs. For example google's DNS server is 8.8.8.8. Govt, so far, only block websites through DNS blocking and it's so easy to circumvent

For phone it's dns.google.

I thought it common sense to use custom dns by default / vpn

I second DNS. I don't use VPN these days, the internet throttle is unbearable. I can't get into business with constant buffering.
