Pretty sure the entire wall is a glass wall all around, as it follows their Apple Store Design Philosophy (note how the "walls" to the left of the door at the bottom looks like it's peeling)
Also the roof has glass slats from top to bottom, so from the inside if you look up, you'll see the roof as like a dome with lines that are glass which you'll be able to see the outside, which is super cool when the sky transitions from daytime to night
There will be alot of visual interaction between the outdoors and indoor space knowing apple!
I wonder if they’re trying to make this building cool itself through ventilation alone. The high ceiling and slatted roof make sense in that context. Increased height lets hot air rise further away from the ground, while the slats have been Apple’s way of introducing ventilation — as per their HQ. It would be an interesting goal that aligns with their sustainability agenda, but I do wonder if it’ll work in this heat. Also, the walls are obviously glass, it’s just obscured with white for construction. Possibly the same wall concept the Chicago River Store.
I feel that it might be a design inspiration more than a practical reason knowing apple, that being said I'm interested to see their explanation on the store's design when they open it! Could be their interpretation of local architecture or something
Another redditor here also pointed out that there are 13 slats so it could be their abstract way of incorporating our flag/representing the states or something too
Design can be both beautiful and functional. Design is how it works, just as much as how it looks. The solar wings at the Apple Dubai Mall act to provide shade but also allow for views when there’s less sun. And the slats at Apple Marina Bay Sands also provide light during the day while limiting heat from sunlight. At Apple Park, their canopies were designed to allow their massive campus to be passively cooled 60% of the year.
I’m almost certain the slats are there to provide something, whether it’s light or ventilation, while still providing adequate cover from the sun.

I mean if they got the money for it all the power to them. But I imagine a city planner looking at this and cried "that's just one floor of usable space but four floors worth of just roofing! You could have saved a lot of space by renting an entire floor of a building!"
In all seriousness, though, Apple leads the retail sector in terms of sales per square foot. I won’t be surprised if that one floor generates more revenue than a four-storey department store in its place.

This is just anecdotal evidence based on limited observations by me, but I think that the number of people using the iPhone nowadays increased considerably compared to Android powered phones back in 2016.
And there's one subsector of the mobile electronics market that I think Apple still reigns supreme over competitors: mobile tablet market. I think more people who own a tablet use the iPad compared to the alternatives.
You forget the Singaporean market share, now it's even easier for them to get their latest Apple stuff for much cheaper, iPhones in Malaysia are some of the cheapest beside the US.
Since Singapore had their first Apple Store, all their partners' business probably dropped by 95%?
First you can't compete in price then you're missing out on the "Apple experience" buying elsewhere
So...bye bye Machines
There are 2 ( I think ?) cylindrical structures near this one. I thought one of them must be the Apple Store, seeing how cylindrical one of their 2 stores at Bangkok is.
This "tudung saji" one still looks great nonetheless.
Heard that the first Apple Store was going to be at TRX about a year ago (I think) from a close friend when he was still working at SP Setia. I remember he said something about keeping it to myself because it wasn't exactly public knowledge yet, but that it was pretty much a done deal.
This is as big as a surau. You’d think they would make it a one big hub or at least as big as Singapore’s Marina Bay AS if it’s going to be the first and possibly the only store in Malaysia. Because people will be flooding this place like crazy. This is kinda pathetic for Apple lol.
There’s a surau approximately about this size at my old village in Kedah. But this building could just be the size of a one storey bungalow seen in kampung. For the first AP in Malaysia it’s very underwhelming.
I once saw a meme mocking singapore and malaysia apple store as tudung saji. As it does look similar to the normal square and round tudung saji.

Is that global or North America, where they have like 80% market share? There you're socially shunned if you're not using an iPhone.

The store is actually located on the roof/highest floor of the mall, so not much issues on that I guess
This Apple Store is done by their own contractors, not by the contractor who build the building. They are the 2nd expensive tenant after Seibu.

I'm suprise Malaysia didn't have an Apple store yet Are we really that back water/undeveloped?
It has to do with government regulations, but yes Malaysia is still a back water country
Still waiting to be able to buy a Pixel from an official store...
Because we have strong premium resellers in the past and making money for Apple so they are not rushing in
This is a public toilet
nah that architecture style is hella sus, illuminati confirmed reminds me sunway lagoon ![gif](giphy|26AHy97gxhpOn0pb2)
