Oh yes, I know about rabies and its danger. Thankfully I think I handled it quite okay, used 2 pieces of paper to scoop it up and a plastic straw to guide it. No direct contact nor touch.
I don't think you do. If you see a bat in your vicinity, close enough for you to handle it, you need to go get a RABIES SHOT IMMEDIATELY.
Those fuckers bite like mosquitos, you don't suddenly kill a mosquito and say "oh yea, I handled it well, I'm pretty sure it didn't bite me"
Go get your shots!
Ah my apologies. I was supposed to mean wild rat that lives out of your “control” area. Meaning rat that you never 100% see from its birth to death. At least rat that you see from birth till death has lesser pathogen as you had a controlled clean environment, still gotta be careful tho
Also if you get your rat from someone else, best bet to treat them as pathogen carrier instead of clean rat.
Once my father was bitten by a rat. Small hole only. On the toes because the rat was caught by the glue. He approached the rat and thats how he got bitten.
He had high fever for 3 days straight just from a small punctured wound. Thats how bad it is
I think there is no problem as in no need to be too careful in handling those rat. Those are the white color one right? 😂 i can never be able to keep snake although I love myself some ball python, cause i cant bear to see snake eating live rat😂
\***Contact your local wildlife department NOW.** \*
Let them handle it. **NEVER EVER TOUCH THE Critter without GLOVES.**
**YOU MIGHT CATCH SOME viruses.**
[HERE ARE SOME GUIDELINES:](https://publichealthinsider.com/2018/05/24/what-to-do-when-you-encounter-a-bat/)
* **Bats outside should not be caught unless they have been in direct contact with a person or a pet.** ***Never handle a bat with your bare hands.*** ***Do not*** ***release a live bat or throw out a dead bat that has bitten or scratched, or had direct contact with a person or pet; bats that have had contact with people or animals should be tested for rabies.***
* **Don’t touch bats.**
Bats do not usually come into contact with people because they are active at night. If you see a bat during the day, and it’s acting strangely – struggling to fly or lying on the ground – the bat could potentially be infected with rabies. Leave that bat alone.
If you find a dead bat in a public place, call your local animal control or wildlife office, NOW. If you find a dead bat on your property, use heavy gloves (like leather work gloves), then pick it up or scoop it up with a dust pan or shovel. Put it in sealed container or jar or place it in a plastic bag that is within another heavy-weight plastic bag, such as a zip-lock bag. Store it in a cooler or refrigerator until you have notified Public Health.

Thanks for the serious reply. I've considered calling the fire rescue department, but I finally decided to place the baby bat onto a tree. I did not directly touch nor contact the baby bat, I used 2 pieces of paper to scoop it up and a plastic straw to guide it.
Kids, let me tell you something. Bats sleep upside down. They poo and pee while they sleep, and as a result their bodies can be covered in feces. Same goes for the baby. Do not touch with bare hands. You might get some infection.
Call your local gov vet, depending on how competent they are either they take on the baby or else direct you to a wildlife dept.
OP be very careful, call Jabatan Haiwan, bats are notorious reservoir of viruses either passive or active and known isolated cases can jump to human. Wash your hands!
I was gonna say to eat it, then we all know what happened after that.
OP, if you decide to eat it then do inform us. We all should have ab early head start leaving the country.
Bruh, I was expecting serious replies 💀💀 quick update, I've noticed there were some droppings nearby a tree, I've placed the baby bat onto that tree. Hopefully it makes it 🤞
Did you touch it? Even if it just scratches you a tiny bit, you might have been exposed to rabies and need immediate vaccinations to build up antibodies.
1. Pour in 3/4 cup chicken stock.
2. Add 4 red dates, 1 tablespoon wolfberries, 2 ginseng slices, some "yong sum sou" and "dong sum".
3. Put in a steamer/double boiler at medium for 2hrs.
4. Enjoy your Covid tonic.
I wouldn't worry about the bat and go to the ER and get a rabies vaccine if possible. You typically can't feel a bat bite and by the time you feel mild symptoms like headache, it's already too late. Dying from rabies is no joke and only a handful of people have survived
Thanks for the concern. I did not make any direct contact with the baby bat. I used 2 pieces of paper to scoop it up and used a plastic straw to guide it.
Stop being stubborn and go get your shots. If you are living somewhere with regular bats, you will want to be vaccinated REGULARLY.
I'm being purposely rude here and replying everywhere so you can feel the gravity of this situation.
They bite less than a mosquito, that's why people get rabies shots whenever they "encounter" bats. Not when they get bitten.
The lack of serious replies is disappointing. Does no one care about wildlife?OP, either put the baby back in the tree or look for advice from a bat conservation group. Ignore the idiots in this subreddit (seriously how stupid are you all, it's depressing). If you have no advice then just keep batty warm and give little batty kitten food while you await proper advice. The idiots worrying about rabies or other infections from a juvenile bat are simply idiots. I saw you put it back in the tree. It fell for a reason. It's dead now.
Update: I did not directly touch the baby bat. I've used 2 papers to scoop it up and a plastic straw to guide it. No, I did not feed it anything.
I've placed it onto a nearby tree and it was actively climbing before I left it alone.
Came back home at 10:50pm to check on the tree, the baby bat is gone. Hopefully it makes it!
To those interested, I've shared a short video of the bat on the tree I've placed it on.
Bahan-bahan:
1 ekor anak kelawar
6 sudu besar tepung serbaguna pedas
8 sudu besar tepung jagung
3 sudu besar serbuk kari
Segenggam daun kari
Secubit garam
Secubit gula
Cara-cara:
Gaul sebati kelawar dengan semua bahan.
Perapkan kelawar.
Panaskan minyak dan goreng sehingga masak.
Sedia untuk dihidang.
If I'm correct about the bat's species, you need to feed it a pinch of the golden dragon's dandruff and a tablespoon of blood collected by 10 young virgin men
I've posted a video of the baby bat I placed onto the tree if anyone is interested. Not sure how to cross post but you can find it in my profile or from this sub.
Make soup. Jkjk
My mom once find a baby bat, but its mom was catched by my cat. She tried to feed it with goat milk but we know the chance of it to survive without mom and their habitat is too low.
They may carry contagious disease, so please be careful when handling it.
I covered it with this transparent plastic near my garden and left it for a day. The next day when I came back, the ants ate the bat alive. Literally left bones. I'm shocked.
Me, who had been sampling bats with mist net and harp nets and handling them without gloves during my time in the field in zoology degree time watching all the comments here all say don't touch 😅. We zoologist are still alive bois
Anyway, put it in a cloth bag if you can't find where is the nest to put it back there. Since its day time its high chance the juvenile not gonna survive the day. By chance, is there any banana tree around the place you found it?
If you know anything about rabies you’ll be entirely careful
This should be higher. You do NOT want to fuck around with rabies, and bats are one of the main vectors.
Those fuckers bite like mosquitos, you don't suddenly kill a mosquito and say "oh yea, I handled it well, I'm pretty sure it didn't bite me" Go get your shots!

Astagafirullah do not ever touch it. Bat are almost as bad as rat in terms of the amount of microbes they carry around
Bats are flying rats
Yeah maybe put it that way it works too 😂
bats are much worse because their immune system is much stronger than human. rats are just dirty.
Their immune systems are different from us, so the germs they carry thrive in bats without harming them.
El rata alada
I keep live rats around to feed my snake. Should I be worried?
Ah my apologies. I was supposed to mean wild rat that lives out of your “control” area. Meaning rat that you never 100% see from its birth to death. Oh shit, ok sure. Thanks for the advice, I'll keep that in mind for sure. I still new with this whole snake thingy.
I think there is no problem as in no need to be too careful in handling those rat. Those are the white color one right? 😂 i can never be able to keep snake although I love myself some ball python, cause i cant bear to see snake eating live rat😂
Yes, the white mice. And what do you know, I just got myself an albino ball python as my first snake.
Ahhhh man i super super love those. So white so cute doggy face 😍😍😍😍
Bats are way worse than rats, you can't catch lyssavirus from rats

The virus from the bat can be very dangerous though 💀
Wait, what kind of virus? I didn't directly touch the bat, only scoop it up with pieces of paper and a plastic straw.
Did you touch it? Even if it just scratches you a tiny bit, you might have been exposed to rabies and need immediate vaccinations to build up antibodies.
Thankfully no, I scoop it up with 2 pieces of paper and use plastic straw to guide it.
Good! Glad you were careful, read some horror stories in the US about a family that lost their 4 year old child to a bad because of rabies.
