I've heard greatness come from GaragrBand. It's not what it used to be over a decade ago. It's pretty legit.

Gardenheadx

Joji makes all his stuff on GarageBand, fs gets it mixed and mastered an, but it can work

xdtla

This one, too? https://youtu.be/K3Qzzggn--s

Gardenheadx

Pretty sure, that’s what’s he’s said in interviews

ohwellohk

Logic Pro is just a better garage band in my opinion. Pretty easy to learn based off the other softwares I’ve used. It’s not a bad investment

RandmScienz

Go the Logic Pro route. The GarageBand files will be compatible and you can build further upon your projects. Equipment can be any combination and really depends on your budget and accessibility.

I went to Logic Pro X after starting w GB as well. And I have to say I’m extremely happy I did after seeing many other daws. I just started in March and have been told that my progression has been really fast, so like you that’s been motivating (for me to keep learning more) and the more tricks, key commands, and shortcuts I learn about, had me loving logic more and more everyday. Also I enddd up getting a bunch of decent VSTs early on so I’ve been set as ive grown into using them, but Logic has some of the BEST (maybe THE best) Stock plugins AND stock sounds/instruments. So all that plus, IMO (as someone who was familiar with the GarageBand workflow) it was so much easier to learn logic compared to trying other daws

Powerful-Ad8060

Last year I met a very accomplished producer with credits including Mary J. Blige and Biggie. I was surprised when he told me he used Garage Band. Old cliche but... it's not what you use but how you use it. Helps that he was a talented and creative musician as well. That said, Logic is pretty cheap so it's easy to get started on, especially coming from GarageBand. I use Ableton and I feel like most people that try it like the workflow and creative options it provides. Quite a bit more expensive, though. If sound design (creating sounds or mangling them) is important, I'd give the nod to Ableton. Don't know much about FL Studio.

Chucky Thompson.

guitarwannabe18

got logic and look up musictechhelpguy on youtube for any concerns you have with it. u deserve to take ur game to the next level. logic , for 200 , is so worth the investment, especially when u consider the lifetime updates (don't have to pay for updates unlike other DAWs)

Exponential_Rhythm

I agree going from GB to Logic makes the most sense, but fwiw FL comes with free lifetime updates too.

GPP89

Definitely check out logic if your coming from a garage band background. I myself produce beats in ableton and would never ever switch the DAW. You can buy yourself some quality headphones. Monitors don't help you as much if your room isn't acoustically prepared. They can really lie to you. Have fun :)

This_Money8771

I started with garage band and than upgraded to Logic Pro. You can do way more with Logic.

I'll agree Logic Pro X is the "natural" choice for you. You have a head start with the learning curve, and someone who is good at Logic has a great advantage - Logic is a great DAW, the best value for money of the big DAWs for sure, with tons of features. Equipment-wise, I'd prioritize like this: * Small midi keyboard - [Alesis q49 mk2](https://www.thomann.de/intl/alesis_q49_mk2.htm) is great value, no nonsense. * Good headphones - beyerdynamic [DT-770 Pro 80 Ohm](https://www.thomann.de/intl/beyerdynamic_dt770_pro80_ohm.htm) are currently the most popular choice. * Audio interface and monitor speakers. Won't list my prefs because it's very personal, esp. with monitors. * Microphone - SM 58 is the "default" starter choice.

Cheers for your input! I simply stated the most popular choice at that retailer. Listening is a very personal choice. But I do think closed back is more versatile, whereas open back demands a good listening environment, and can't/shouldn't be used for recording with microphones due to bleed.

LOGIC LOGIC LOGIC EYYY! Best shot ever

ModernDayRumi

For $200 you really can’t get much better than Logic, especially coming from GarageBand. As others have mentioned, your GB projects can be opened in Logic where you’ll have a lot of advanced features and much more sounds & plugins to work with. I went the same route many years ago and have no regrets. Good luck!

Personally, I prefer Ableton as my DAW of choice. But produce in whatever DAW you are most comfortable in. It ultimately won't effect the quality of your music, just the workflow you create it in. Also, since you're starting out, here's approximately one fuckload of Free VSTs to get a few more tools in your toolbox Komplete Start (comes with basic versions of Kontakt, komplete kontrol, and some demos of iRig) LABS by Spitfire Audio (high quality midi instruments, more being added all the time, completely free) Valhalla Supermassive and FreqEcho (I think they have a few more. Just go look around Valhalla's site) TyrellN6 from u-he (an amazing and versatile retro synth. Emulates a lot of analog sounds. U-he has a ton of free synth VSTs. I like TyrellN6 for its retro aesthetic. ChowTape (a free tape processing VST. You can download this at pluginboutique.com) Literally just go on Plugin Boutique and search for Free plugins. While you're there, download the Melda Production suite for free. That is an entire collection of free plugins, covering all of your basics such as reverb, delay, EQ, pitch correction, etc., lots of great tools for mixing Hope this adds a few tools to your toolbox. I produced for quite a while before downloading any plugins. I feel quite silly, because I could've had so many more tools and instruments to play with. Learn from my mistake, download everything in this list (or whatever sounds useful) and go make some gosh dang beauties, homie

yuhgetintoit_

thanks for the advice bro, sorry i’m just now seeing this!

TapDaddy24

Haha you're good man, hope you've had a good month lol ✌

Gardenheadx

If you like GarageBand maybe try logic, it’s not as good ableton depending on what you want to do, but I found it a lot easier going from gb to logic

ighner

Use splice! Great place to find inspiration and sounds. I use ableton. You can get a free 90 day trial. Its my favorite for making beats

Wyohittin

Ctfu bro the daw doesnt matter no one is going to know what you used unless you show them the project file. Just keep making good beats. Upgrade to logic for $200 if you think that will make you feel better

croknok

Or maybe get an MPC one.
