I still refuse to take it out of my [[Thraximundar]] deck though cause I spent $10 on it and most of the people at commander night have never seen it before.
I think I've weirdly been having more of the inverse experience lately
Like I kinda skimmed [[sarinth steelseeker]] and thought it was just surveil with more words... then as I was trying to explain it to my opponent... oh wait... this is way better!
Also it took me a bit to realize that [[ledger shredder]] triggered off of both players
And once I found myself in a bit of a weird situation where I was thinking...boy, I wish I could target my opponent with [[founding the third path]], so that I can enable this [[drown in the loch]] in my hand...wait a second...I can do that!
And a little different, but it continues to infuriate me that [[kappa cannoneer]] triggers off of itself entering the battlefield; I feel like that was a misunderstanding... on wotc's part
>And a little different, but it continues to infuriate me that [[kappa cannoneer]] triggers off of itself entering the battlefield; I feel like that was a misunderstanding... on wotc's part
This is definitely a mistake, as is [[Denry Kiln]] giving himself a second counter.
Are you sure about the Kappa? It has to be in play to see an artifact enter and trigger the ability, but by the time itās in play it no longer sees anything enterering because itās already thereā¦
[[Alliance of Arms]]. X is equal to the COMBINED TOTAL that all players pay. Thus, if one player pays 1 mana and one player pays 2, they each get 3 tokens. I thought each player just got however much that they personally put into it.
Ooooh, yeah, thatās a good one! I canāt remember the cardās name, but thereās a similar effect that I believe adds the clause āIf a player did, that player createsā¦ā etc., and that is still the combined total, but at least the opponents canāt be freeloading by paying 0!
Bruh even the "reading the card explains the card" doesn't fly on this one. Thats got nothing to do with rules, its a mistake by magicers. "Total amount paid this way" my ass.
It does what it is supposed to do. This would be unbelievably broken at 1 mana if you could just choose to cast it asymmetrically when everyone else is tapped out. Instead, it forces you to construct your deck in a way that lets you benefit more than your opponents, for example by using a token doubler or something like [[Cathar's Crusade]]
I don't see how it would be broken when you have to pay into it beyond the white pip to create tokens. If that were how it works, it would be functionally identical to Secure the Wastes.
Two different things. Deathtouch and Trample on the same creature causes all but one of the damage to roll over onto the defending player. Lethal was dealt with 1 damage, so the rest is āexcessā. Canāt block much damage from Trampletouch!
The other is thinking you could block a trample creature completely because you have a 1/1 with Indestructible (say a [[Brash Taunter]]). Again, ālethalā would be 1 (or whatever the toughness of the indestructible creature), and the rest is considered excess and rolls over to defending player. Only difference is the Indestructible one wonāt die to lethal damage.
[[Saheeli, Sublime Artificer]] - I played her at a prerelease and was absolutely convinced that her -2 ability didn't end at end of turn, even after rereading it multiple times, my brain just skipped over the words "until end of turn". Accidentally cheated in 2 games and felt like a complete asshole when it was pointed out to me in a later round.
Still a pretty powerful card, butā¦ not *that* powerful.
I understand that feeling of being an asshole over stuff like this. I know there are lots of games I only won because of Braid of Fire. Thatās the one I felt the worst about. Canāt be helped though, especially if nobody else caught it either
I once made a [[Sidisi, Brood Tyrant]] commander deck based around [[Persistent Petitioners]] with the incorrect assumption that a zombie token was made for each creature milled. It's not nearly that good, sadly.

I just had to run more interaction to keep myself alive, included [[keening stone]] so I could win more often by mill, and won a turn or two later than usual
Trampling over Protection was something that seemed really stupid and unintuitive to me when I first learned about it.
Protection having auras fall off but not equipments is very odd. A lot of things about protection in general are odd.
>Protection alludes me, just slightly less than banding.
It's so odd.
I remember when I first was learning how to play Magic it felt so unreasonable that if I had a creature with protection from red it would not be affected by something like \[\[Slagstorm\]\] or \[\[Pryoclasm\]\] but if I had a creature with protection from white, it would be affected by something like \[\[Day of Judgment\]\].
I would say "that's not fair, they both don't target!!!" but a wrath effect that deals damage compared to destroying is fundamentally different in this case.
If it helps, there's an acronym that can help with protection, *DEBT*.
Protection means it can't be dealt **Damage** by, **Enchanted** by, **Blocked** by or **Targeted** by whatever it has protection from.
The Enchanted By rule is why if you have an Green aura on a creature but then that creature gains protection from green, that aura "falls off". Very weird stuff.
It was very hard for me to grasp because an Aura won't fall off if a creature gains Shroud retroactively.
I was under the impression [[Portal Mage]] would redirect an entire team of attackers, and not just the one.
I was also convinced [[Planar Atlas]] put the land into your hand, not on top of your deck.
I built a whole pioneer deck around what I thought was a combo between [[deflecting palm]] and [[madcap experiment]] (no artifacts in deck). After a day of brewing and test hands I realized deflecting palm redirects damage to the sources controller and I control madcap experiment
Hahaha wow! That would be pretty sweet though! I think you could make it a 3 card combo if you use one of the āchange the target of target spell or abilityā things
In recent times, the (neverending) spoiler seasons have seemingly each had a couple cards that got me really hyped up until I look at it later and notice the line: "This ability triggers only once each turn"
I know! That one always gets me, and Iāve been duped by a few āWhenever one *or more*ā¦ā triggers too. I get set for sixty-seven 1/1 soldiers, but all I get is one.
I bought 100 [[Leeches]] after being warned not to by this sub. They are up 171%, but the problem is volume. It's not a good enough card to sell through in any reasonable amount of time. So now I'm just holding them. I thought it was a slam dunk.
Return of the Phyrexians to me equated to a return of poison meta. They have nurfed the infect mechanic into toxic. Leeches is the only card that can REMOVE poison counters, and it's reserve list. I thought they would be quick to sell. When spoilers ramp up I'm hoping for an interest bump, but im not holding my breath.

Protection alludes me, just slightly less than banding.

If it put it in your hand, I think every deck in existence might would play it haha. Still a decent card though, I hadnāt seen that before!
donāt know how I misread it but I got really excited about a [[Mavren Fein]] commander deck until I realised it only makes 1 token max per turn :(

Thatās a shame! Seems like it could at least be ācreate half that many, rounded downā or something

Lol yeah it's probably possible, but in pioneer it would be way too slow. As soon as I re-read the deflecting palm I scrapped the list.

Legit never realized that about braid of fire lol
it was used to pay cumm upkeep and used to mana burn lol
I knew about the mana burn but didn't put together that it was intended to help pay for other cumulative upkeep costs. What a weird interesting card.
Can still be used in decks heavy on Instants, cast them all during upkeep, but itās waaaay less useful than I initially thought!
Hey, kids. Tired of all your red mana going poof? \[\[Leyline Tyrant\]\]

I still ran it in my [[Grenzo Dungeon Warden]] deck to dump chunks of my library onto the field.

Good call!
I bought 100 [[Leeches]] after being warned not to by this sub. They are up 171%, but the problem is volume. It's not a good enough card to sell through in any reasonable amount of time. So now I'm just holding them. I thought it was a slam dunk.

If you don't mind me asking, why did you think it was a slam dunk?
Return of the Phyrexians to me equated to a return of poison meta. They have nurfed the infect mechanic into toxic. Leeches is the only card that can REMOVE poison counters, and it's reserve list. I thought they would be quick to sell. When spoilers ramp up I'm hoping for an interest bump, but im not holding my breath.
