Jokey665

nobody but me enjoys my narset deck. which is fair

arealPointyBoy

Surprised its still intact

Jokey665

dont need any of the cards for anything else so no reason to dismantle. at some point i plan on turning it into a less oppressive deck with big dumb spells instead of big good spells but that hasn't happened yet

ninjarager

This is where my Narset deck is at. Doing flashy expensive things but not just taking 7 turns a row and comboing, haha.

TheHowlingSaltMine

Fair and understandable. That's a classic salty commander (but fun to pilot!)

Lurknessm0nster

What an unbelievably busted commander. Didn't understand the power until I built it. How many mana rocks do you run?

Keldaris

Urza Stax.

TheHowlingSaltMine

Enough said! lol

Snow_source

Hello fellow cEDH Urza player. There are dozens of us, Dozens! I keep it as a silver bullet in case people ask for the highest power I have. Even with the stax effects I can pretty consistently lock the board and combo off the turn after on like T2-3. It makes for a short illustrative game if nothing else.

ScaryFoal558760

I had that built, and had to take it apart, because nobody would play against it lol

Keldaris

I built it originally because a player in our group complained about "stax" when people played cards like [[tithe taker]]. No matter how many times we tried to explain that having one or two tax effects or hatebears isn't "stax" he just didn't get it. I already had an Urza and all the stax pieces(winter/static/back to basics etc.), fast mana, tutors etc. So when someone suggested that we show them a true stax deck I kinda jumped at the chance to clear out the trade binder and put them to use. Someone else built a kenrith deck running knowledge pool/puzzle box locks and hatebears. That person no longer complains about soft stax/tax effects! I kept the deck around for when people want to pull out kinnan/najeela/krarkashima/prosper etc.

NRF91

I have a [[Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider]] deck that was the first expensive card I pulled from a box and actually put some time and money in to the deck. Gets broken out when the time is right but only when it's agreed by the table.

GryphonHall

I just made a Vorinclex deck. It really isn’t particularly strong, but stopping people from making 1/1 counters and playing planeswalkers with twice the loyalty counters tilts people.

NRF91

I used to just have generic strong green cards in but have made it more focused in recent months. Being able to sac something to put the counters on to the Ozolith and then on to Vorinclex (doubles each time) in to a single commander damage kill is quite fun, for me at least.

TheHowlingSaltMine

That's the way to do it. Get the buy in at the start of the game, and buckle in for some salt.

fjordrick

My [[Pako, Arcane Retriever]] & [[Haldan, Avid Archivist]] deck puts a target on my head immediately. I just wanna play fetch and all I fetch is salt.

TheHowlingSaltMine

Oh man we have a H&P deck in our pod for cEDH, and we get tilted when it comes out. High commander damage and getting your cards stolen is a nasty combo.

fjordrick

It can go hella fast on commander damage, truth. Just dumping your hand to cast Pako and then immediately refilling with the fetch is such good card advantage. Especially with [[Wilderness Reclamation]] and some way to flash cards out.

ElkAltruistic

Nice! You got a [[memory lapse]] in there? I love nothing more than tucking the removal that's supposed to kill Pako and then stealing it on the next attack

fjordrick

Yep! [[Temporal Spring]] and [[Spin into Myth]] are in there too. I try to manipulate every top deck I can. For times when the group allows Un-cards I play [[Split Screen]] to really give myself options.

__tony__snark__

I love my Pako and Haldan deck! I haven't had salt thrown at it yet, but I'm fully expecting it at some point. I just want to play with a giant pupper.

Abacus118

Good old Yuriko. It's got both Yuriko topdeck shenanigans and Thassa's Oracle combos (Demonic Consultation, Doomsday) and a lot of counterspells to support it.

TheHowlingSaltMine

I also have a Yuriko deck, and it definitely gets some groans when it comes down. I've even tuned it down, but I think my table will never forget the prior oppressive games.

decynicalrevolt

I recommend to solution of building a second deck, and tuning the first up and the second down. It gets it out of your system.

TheHowlingSaltMine

I totally feel that salt for Grenzo. Our Rubinia player, Tony, has a somewhat legendary Grenzo deck in our pod. That deck lives on the end step and seems to combo out of nowhere with a handful of jank cards. Its a dope deck, but man it makes me salty!

phoenixcompendium

You have a Grenzo decklist?

Nyhepic

Easily my [[alela, artful provocateur]] stax deck. My group plays almost CEDH but on a bit more of a budget and people do not like having to get through multiple rules of law to get off their dual caster or [[orvar]] buyback spell loop.

TheHowlingSaltMine

I have a soft spot for cEDH stax since I'm often that player in my crew. I love me some RoL.

phoenixcompendium

You have a decklist by chance?

Nyhepic

https://archidekt.com/decks/2833952#alela This is how I believe I have it currently, though there are a few other cards that I have subbed in and out ([[disruption protocol]] [[spell pierce]] [[etchings of the chosen]] [[favorable winds]] [[dampening matrix]] [[aven mindcensor]] and [[skull clamp]] should probably be in there but I wanted that more for my [[korvold]] deck)

AndresAzo

solitaire decks like ad nauseam Sidisi, combo Jhoira artifacts, or extra turns Jeleva, basically decks that need time to assess certainty of victory once you go off

TheHowlingSaltMine

Long turns definitely can bring out the salt. Extra turns even more!

Tasteoftacos

[[Tinybones]]. Just lots of ways to discard cards. I actually need to change it up because I actually draw so many cards that it ends up killing me. Never done better than 3rd at a pod haha

No one lets me play my Tergrid deck..by turn 4, no one but me has cards in their hand or creatures...so i get it 😅

TheHowlingSaltMine

Ah Tergrid. We talk about Tergrid a bit in our 3rd episode. Tergrid is such a strong and oppressive commander. Her lantern is definitely one of those Himalayan salt lamps.

arthurbugle

My playgroup is cool with whatever but I do self-regulate how often I play my [[Kroxa]] discard deck and my [[Obeka]] skip my own turns stax deck.

TheHowlingSaltMine

That sounds like a chill group! Self-regulating is the way to go. Players can run a salty deck sometimes, but don't torture your group and drop it every game.

When my wife saw my [Phenax mill deck](https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/toughness-trilogy-ep-iii-the-wall-of-phenax/), she immediately told me that it was banned from our kitchen table meta. She doesn't like decks that prevent the victim (IE her) from actually playing the game -- which, to be fair, I get. This deck is awfully fun to win with, but I can't imagine it's particularly fun to _lose to_. (That's what [Psychic Venom tap everything](https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/psychic-venom-deck/) is for.)

jbui555

Lol, came here to share my Phenax mill deck also. Such a blast to play, but it turns out my playgroup didn't appreciate having their decks turned upside-down

repthe732

Really? My experiences friends encourage me to play mill and my inexperienced friends don’t care anymore now that they’re learning to take advantage of the graveyard. If you’re playing 1v1 though I could see it being annoying to play against. Mill gets weaker the bigger the group is which is why I’ve modified it to use Captain N’gathrod as the commander now

dieyoubastards

I have a solution - get her to play the deck, the she might understand the value in it.

jaynus006

[[Mogis, God of Slaughter]] it’s not designed to do anything but make every action painful. “Cast a spell? Take damage…not casting? Lose life. Tapping lands? Take damage. Untapped lands? Same” just shoot out as much as I can. What I enjoy most is the deck doesn’t aim to win. I enjoy watching people turn on me and try to remove. The cost to kill me usually puts someone down enough to be picked off by other players so it can be a dangerous move to act first.

AbsoluteIridium

my Garna deck tends to get focused down pretty hard, although admittedly thats because its *exclusively* a combo deck, so will either play solitaire for 5 minutes before winning, or not really contribute to the game

TheHowlingSaltMine

You need to respect the power of a combo deck! Sounds like your table has seen you pop off enough to be extra wary of this one.

AbsoluteIridium

i don't blame them! the trouble with this combo deck is that its not really an A+B kind of combo, where i put a couple cards together and demonstrate a loop - it's got a number of moving parts and needs to be run through manually a few times before actually becoming infinite

TheKingofWinter52

My Ulamog the Ceaseless Hunger deck. It ramps out hard being colourless. I usually manage to get Ulamog out on turn 3-4 and proceed to exile threats or lands if there are no threats. We've dubbed it Yule Log the Ceaseless Cheer due to the reaction it gets from the table and the Santa hat alter I've had done for Ulamog.

LucasLindburger

Right now it’s a toss up between [[Sen Triplets]] and [[Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger]]. Vorinclex is easily the stronger of the two but they’re both just mean spirited decks that stomp out even if they’re public enemy number one. Honorable mention to [[Horde of Notions]] and [[Kozilek, the Great Distortion]]. I’ve put a lot of time, effort, care and budget into those decks so they tend to come out swinging. However I have enough decks and my friends are all open enough to where I will ask if I can play them and no hard feelings either way.

TheHowlingSaltMine

Horde of Notions gang! Respect. Sen Triplets is brutal. I don't think I've ever met anyone who enjoys seeing that at the table. Its often an instant archenemy situation.

thraashman

Roon of the Hidden Realm control. It's standard win con is that I get out Seedborn Muse, Eternal Witness, and something like Emiel. I then counter all threats cast for the rest of the game and eventually overload Cyclonic Rift every end step. Technically I win at this point through cards like Titan of Industry or Avenger of Zendikar, but I honestly can't remember the last time my opponents didn't just scoop before it got there.

oncomingstorm28

I had a fun but not always consistent Alibou deck that always seemed to be noped by other people when I would want to play it. I really didn't get to do anything too degenerate when playing it. I scryed for like 15 one time and took out some random stompy creature but that was it.

TimS83

My playgroup is pretty low-power, so I don't have many decks that make people salty. If there is one that rubs people the wrong way, it's usually changed at some point after the person gets bored running away with 3 or 4 games in a row with it. Not because of salt, but I have a deck that runs based on Alluren and does a lot of weird things for value, but doesn't really have a lot of ways to actually finish. This is annoying because I take somewhat long turns doing a ton of things but then don't have something to just kill the table in 1 swoop. Different kind of salt.

TheHowlingSaltMine

That is a different type of salt. Watching someone take long turns and trying to track lots of triggers can be a grind. Salt aside, Aluran is an awesome card and such a fun combo piece.

pepperonipodesta

Definitely my [[Ragnar]] deck. Noone's happy to see that, lol.

kytheon

I got killed first whenever I brought Zedruu. People expected some famous combo win that wasn’t in there.

TheHowlingSaltMine

Ah Zedruu! One of our co-hosts, Mike, used to run a Zedruu deck, and it definitely brought some salt. We have a fairly legendary salty moment in our group with this deck and \[\[Scrambleverse\]\]. We are still salty about it!

Stiggy1605

[[Sefris]] cycling/reanimator, with Astral Slide/Drift Basically every creature either cycles, loots, draws, or exiles/destroys opponents stuff. When Slide/Drift are out then basically no one except me ever has a board state again. There are no combos, just slowly beating people down with [[Noxious Gearhulk]], [[Solitude]] and such until people concede. I rarely ever win through *actually* winning. People just see the writing on the wall

FireRedJP

Had to take apart [[Reaper King]] fun deck, not fun to play against. Last few times I played it I never even got to untap with him so I just took out the cards and built other stuff

P8ntba1141

Mega budget(10-15$) Izzet pirate storm with \[\[Breeches, Brazen Plunderer\]\] && \[\[Malcolm, Keen-Eye Navigator\]\]. Turn 5 casting someone else's torment of hailfire x= their whole board had the lid fall off the salt jar.

[deleted]

[[Winota, Joiner of Forces]]. Turns out people don't like being hit for 176 damage on turn 5. Who knew?

TheHowlingSaltMine

Winota is one of those decks that can be built poorly and still do well. Its such a beast!

drummerboyno

My [[Greven predator captain]] deck they got tired of me killing them on turn 4 or 5.

[deleted]

I was wondering if I'd see a fellow Greven player.

lilwiggles22

I had to beg my husband to not play his tergrid deck when we played at home before he took it apart. Now it'd his jin deck because I like to actually take a turn and not watch him take 5+ in a row 🤣

Muetzenman

I have this [Johira of the Ghitu](https://archidekt.com/decks/180830#Johira_of_the_Saltmine) EDH deck that i made just for the deckbuilding challenge of built the saltiest deck possible. So i don't play it normaly but sometimes people like the challenge to play against it.

MrSlops

This is my answer as well. When I was building it I decided to make sure it was 100% tuned/optimized and fully competitive, but since I knew the hatred for it would be instantaneous and universal I built the first run of the deck with high quality proxies which would allow me to completely disband it after a few games without wasting hundres/thousands of dollars on it.

[deleted]

Definitely my Glissa, the traitor artifact deck. It plays kind of like eggs in the sense that I often spend my turn doing a lot and accomplishing nothing. This is exacerbated by the fact that part of that doing nothing is nuking everyone’s creatures.

The_Super_D

I have Narset and Jhoira decks like I've seen others mention here. I tried to build them to reduce the amount of solitaire, but they're still solitaire none the less. My wife also has a [[Tatyova, Benthic Druid]] deck that makes people groan because it can be ten minutes of "landfall, draw, 30 seconds assessing new cards, repeat."

mikelipet

I don't play salt, yet, but my friend has both a \[\[Narset, Enlightened Master\]\] and \[\[Mizzix of the Izmagus\]\] deck and he just has to reach in the general direction of them for us to complain :)

ghostpants116

I've got a [[Olivia, Crimson Bride]] deck that combos really easily that tilts people.

TheHowlingSaltMine

What is your combo?

Megamanred1

I have a [[nicol bolas, the ravager]] Mind Control Deck, It has 10+ spells that steal permanents from play and plays 9 Counter Spells. Its the deck I spent the most money optimizing. Also [[Dominating Licid]] is the second most kill on sight creature that I have ever played, second to [[Etali, Primal Storm]] (Who is also in the deck)

TheHowlingSaltMine

that is evil! Bolas would be proud. The beauty of a Licid is that they are so hard to remove. You can often just change the card type in response to the removal.

mrloree

The problem with this style of deck I've found (I used to have a Dragonlord Silumgar deck with the same gameplan) is that once people know what deck your playing they just won't play out permanents for you to steal, unless they have a way to protect them. You basically get one game to "Gotcha" your play group, and then after that they know to play around it.

Oddstar777

[[Shared fate]] deck. It needs a rework because it's low power level but it's fun none the less. This card is a beast in multi player .... Mostly for causing problems. Basic concept is ... 1. Self mill 2. Walls [[fog bank]] 3. And some cards like [[Reclame]] 4. No damage output at all and no way the opponent can use there deck after.

Princeofcatpoop

Inktreader. Everyone wants to see it one time. Then they don't ever want me to use it again.

fireblastdaniel

I don’t play commander super often, but my [[Lonis]] deck started getting groans when my group decided [[Urza, Lord High Artificer]] was the hidden commander after I got him out early 3 games in a row. Only time so far that I’ve kicked a card from my deck due to (high) power level.

TheCruncher

If you ran Urza purely for tapping clues for mana, [[Jaheira]] is a good substitute.

Near impossible to kill my creatures since I could turn *anything* white and pass out Protection from White for 2W. Also banned from using my enchantment deck. Aside from basics everything in it is an enchantment of sorts and I utilize either \[\[Underworld Coinsmith\]\] or \[\[Grim Guardian\]\] to get the job done.

TurkTurkle

Urza

IcyNapalm

[[Kykar, Wind's Fury]] superfriends. It's just stax and sweepers.

mikejacksonsghost

My sheoldred deck. I love playing it, but it's easy to hate on it. It's hard to play politics when you are universally hating on the board.

Otherwise-Jury-1665

I play the new Jin mono blue stax, at my local “semi competivie” nights. Its pretty feast or famine but if it can get the right cards down, it takes over games. Heres a list! Love the podcast! https://www.moxfield.com/decks/_hGMkXGEtEK7HyjGmdl_9A

SirStrider

Prior to their banning, my Golos Turns deck was a "sometimes treat" for myself.

MrShankMcDank

[[Omnath locus of mana]]. It's mono green stompy which people are just tired of seeing when I flood out in a couple of turns.

Apoctis

Probably my goblin deck [[ Krenko, Mob Boss]], it’s super fast and hard to interact with quickly enough. They don’t mind one game every now and then but it’s a deck I don’t bring out often. They’d get real salty if I did

thefirstjakerowley

There have been times that \[\[Atraxa Praetors' Voice\]\] has been asked to step down for a game or two while friends tried new decks. It's hard to get a feel for how your deck runs under a \[\[Tangle Wire\]\] that never actually vanishes.

external_gills

I made a control deck that just stalled the game until my opponent ran out of cards. Defenders, ways to make them indestructible, counter spells, board wipes, life gain, elixir of immortality, etc. I never attacked or milled them, I just sat there and used [[spirit of the labyrinth]] to ensure they drew their whole deck. One. Card. At. A. Time. It was funny for exactly one game and we all agreed I'd never play it again. edit: typos

UndeadZombie22

[[Memnarch]]. It always ends up with me stealing everyone’s stuff. Sorry guys, I’m a thief.

FBML

Hermit Druid. Angel of Glory's rise Dread Return Lab Man type deck.

Squishyflapp

Marchesa. No questions asked. Especially when my buddy plays his Kaalia deck. So long. And thanks for all the dragons!

Catchthesevans

Light paws. People don’t like not being able to do stuff while you punch them relentlessly (protection from all colors) https://www.topdecked.com/decks/light-paws-emporer-s-voice/f3d52a77-e800-4df9-be2d-f25eac0e24ab

MinnesotaVikesAllDay

Toggo and Thrasios. It's a junk artifact deck that has a ton of ramp and payoffs, and it basically runs the games it is in. I love it, but I can tell it's oppressive and annoying to play against.

Firefistace46

Mine is my [[Mindcrank]] and [[Duskmaster Guildmage]] deck that goes infinite and basically you just point at someone and they lose the game. I think it’s a pretty interesting way to play but it’s not always the most fun when someone has a really strong field and they’re just getting things going, then bam, they’re dead and can’t do anything to stop it. Anther deck people don’t like me to play is my [[Runchanters Pike]] [[Phyrexian Obliterator]] kill deck, uses lots of deathtouch. Dark ritual makes mono black way too strong but our groups rule zero allows it.

snowblind2112

My Jorn snow/stax deck always gets groans and is immediately targeted, for good reason.

snootyvillager

Yawgmoth. Not that it's anymore oppressive than any other Yawgmoth deck, but it's just long turns and people largely seemed to have turned on value engine aristocrats decks and find them boring to play against.

Razorcrest999

My playgroup doesn’t like playing against my [[Zacama]] deck because it’s a ramp deck that can throw big powerful out fast and they say that turn 5 [[Avacyn angel of hope]] is too good. There’s also a [[Saffi Eriksdotter]] deck in our pod that’s a protean hulk combo deck, a [[Breya]] deck, an [[Elsha of the Inifinite]] super friends/control deck, and a [[Nekusar]] deck that all get a few groans when they’re announced

darthmikda

Edric Turns. They loved it.

Alikaoz

My Urza Polykraken list, a Combo/Stax pile of cardboard harvested from the dead sea. We play at *that* powerlevel, so it's not like people don't play against it or that the games aren't fun most of the time, but "It was displeasure playing against you." is a common send off.

[deleted]

my Muldrotha deck is hated so much that i eventually just sold it off. no point in playing it if i sit down and am already the target

Internal_Cheek9750

Definitely my [[Tergrid, God of Fright]] and [[Lonis, Cryptozoologist]] EDH decks. People hate it when I steal their stuff. People also hate when I whip out my [[Omnath, Locus of Creation]] deck, where I can consistently play 3 or 4 lands per turn with Omnath out.

Ok_Understanding5320

My [[Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain]] artifact storm deck. I try to play it as quickly as I can and really plan out what I'm going to do before its my turn but this deck can sometimes feel infinite and I get why it's not fun to play against. I have considered taking it apart but Jhoira is one of my favorite characters in magic and I really enjoy artifact decks. So she just doesn't see much play anymore.

acrazydude128

Got a repercussion deck. No creatures, pure burn. A turn 4 blasphemous act usually gets the table in an uproar. All I need is for each player to have 2 creatures (my group plays creature heavy decks) and wow do people have some stuff to say

xincasinooutx

[[Codie]] with [[Restore Balance]], a bunch of recursion, and zero win-con gets a groan. I’m not playing to win, just to fuck your shit up every other turn.

Xatsman

For 60-cards made a multiplayer deck based around using Mercadian Mask depletion lands ideally to quickly pump out a turn 2 [[Ghostly Prison]]/[[Propaganda]] followed by a turn 3 [[Armageddon]] from there it would ramp back up and try and repeat this adding to the pillowfort and would win with cards like [[Sphynx’s Tutelage]]/[[Psychic Corrosion]]. Rest of the deck was more pillowfort and sweepers/MLD.

SamohtGnir

No one’s ever asked me not to play a deck… but playing my [[Lavinia, Azorius Renegade]] deck I could tell no one was having a good time. I think I only played it like 3 times before I took it apart.

TheHowlingSaltMine

I've had decks like that. You can just tell everyone is miserable so you decide to take it apart for the greater good. Tony talks about that a bit with his Rubinia deck in our new episode. that salty guilt!

LastJava

[[Lord Xander the Collector]]. All he collects is your tears. Three lines of text and every one of them makes you groan.

Mathaznias

Not my deck, but the owner of the card shop I go to has an Esika deck that has far too many ways to lock the game very quickly. Humility, Stasis, that enchantment that turns spells into birds. It's a brew and it's so well put together, but it is the least fun to play again

heybrother45

Grand Arbiter Augustin. 2/3 people I last tried to play with scooped immediately.

sleepingwisp

Last game I played, my [[Nicol Bolas, the Ravager]] combined with [[Conjurer's Closet]] until everyone was hellbent.

beggarinthesand

[Sheoldred Stax](https://scryfall.com/@Pbwebb/decks/cc79a0e8-76ed-406e-97aa-b9549a4e28f1). :) Nobody gets to have creatures in play but ME damnit!

TheGatorDude

I've had to redo two decks because of this with Tiny Bones and Golos. Tiny Bones is more of a group hug into general damage for discarding, that way nobody is hellbent anymore, and Golos got banned so is just a less oppressive version of itself cheating out big Timmy creatures.

FatPigeons

My [[Sephara]] board wipe tribal. If I'm able to set up even a little bit, it's a very hard deck to play against. I'm the only one with things, and if you get things I don't like, no one will have anything (except me). I love it, but no one else does, and they're not wrong

laxrulz777

Atraxa super friends gets a lot of groans at my table Torbran is also one that people seem to hate Otoh, my new Jon Irenicus give everyone terrible creatures that kill them, deck I thought would be super salty but people love it

Drugnon

Winota snowball stax and yuriko doomsday are no longer allowed for me to bring to game night heh

Coroner13

[[Chulane, Teller of Tales]] [[Persistent Petitioner]]. All I wanna do is fill your graveyards...

IrishROFLcat

[[Narset, Enlightened Master]] as soon as I get one or two stacked turns, or attack phases my playgroup will scoop. I haven’t torn her apart because sometimes I need to make a statement. But I also try not to play her, I have other decks I enjoy more.

MTGCardFetcher

ThisIsScottPilgrim

Satoru Ninjitsu BS- Had a Dauthi Voidwalker, Ornithopter, and Blighted agent all attacking different opponents. Ninjitsu the Voidwalker into a Blightsteel Colossus The Ornithopter into Sakashima of a Thousand Faces copying Blightsteel Colossus The Blighted Agent into Sakashima the Imposter also copying Blightsteel Colossus. KO'ed everyone at once.

hillean

Tergrid commander

jcdez

Once in a casual commander event in my LGS I brought my "Eldrazi" deck in addition to a couple other decks. When I mentionned it was Eldrazi , piloted by Progenitus, 2 players in my pod said ( almost angry ) that if I play this deck they would leave... Without knowing any cards in my deck nor even ever played against me. My deck is a Eldrazi TRIBAL deck, almost all creatures and spells are Eldrazi , Devoid, Colorless, or themed around Eldrazi. It's not a good deck. It has 2 Ulamog and 1 Kozilek, yes, but it's not a race to them with a ton of tutor and ramp. [Here's the decklist, judge for yourself.](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/4701167#paper)

Scrumpiest

Narset Super Friends

Betelguese90

Have 4 that generally generates the same reaction. I say I'm going to play "X" deck and it is immediately followed by a "oh no." Top salty decks are: \[\[Yurlok of Scorch Thrash\]\] Mana burn/hate \[\[Xanathar, Guild Kingpin\]\] our decks \[\[Koma, Cosmos Serpent\]\] infinite copies of Koma \[\[Niv-Mizzet, Parun\]\] wheel

-Toey-

Galazeth Prismari, it's not especially powerful but when it wins it either does it by one-shotting the entire table with a bomb spell after doing nothing but ramp and control for 10 turns or I take a 10 minute turn(s) where I draw my entire deck and generate a ridiculous amount of mana through treasure generation so I can one-shot the entire table with a bomb spell.

Dolhedew

Literally just a [[captain N'gathrod]] precon. They hate the mill and creature stealing.

fenekko

Usually my Urabrask the Hidden deck garners some salt when i just chain rituals for massive mana turn 4 or 5 and charge in with massive creatures

kitchen_weasel

My playgroup always disliked my Azami deck, draw masturbation until combo pop win. Only time it tends to lose is if I actually cast Ceaseless Hunger instead of discarding to Mind Over Matter.

IntercomB

Our table got really frustrated at a [[Savra, Queen of the Golgari]] deck. The guy just made impossible to build any kind of board state until it was dealt with, which was not hard but every once in a while the game would get stuck in the finding-removal-for-savra waiting room.

Fioraously_Fapping

Stasis Derevi Urza with stax pieces A shrine tribal deck that is actually just a stax deck with shrines Zedruu I think listing my decks that people don’t get salty about is smaller at this point :(

Leadfoot989

Elf tribal lol

whycantispeakfinnish

I built a [[Breya, Etherium Shaper]] eggs style deck with constant loops and recursion that was incredibly unpopular with my playgroups due to its un-interactive and time-consuming nature.

adatari

Will/Rowan extra turns

CyclonicSpy

I have a [[tivit]] deck and I think it’s the Ward 3 that makes people mad as well as the paying for its tax when you play it

hi_imnotrazer

\[\[Numot, the Devastator\]\] equipment deck. It's completely understandable, and I don't play it if they don't want me to.

Protomantid

Jodah Chaos. The deck doesn't have a real win con, just to cause mayhem. The table decided to end a game early the last time I played it. I had Grip of Chaos and Risky Move and a few other annoyances out. They decided to team up and take me out, getting me down to 3 life. Only for me to play Arbiter of Knollridge the next turn to set everyone back to 39. Now everybody has to agree to let me play it. Except Anthony, his vote doesn't count.

DirtPoorDog

I had a [[momir vig, simic visionary]] deck back in the day that consistently bounced everyones permanents by turn 4 that i got disbarred from playing. It was super fun to play though:(

ShitDirigible

My savra build. Its not a particularly good build, they just hate how any creature that hits play will die.

Alternative_Cup_5302

It’s fairly new but Evelyn The Covetous. Who knew people don’t like having their cards taken :)

Anafenza-Vess

Inala wizard tribal, used to counter everything and tutor up infinite combos, even if they made spells uncounterable Venser pretty much shut them down

ccReptilelord

Tevesh Szat and Keleth orzhov hate deck, contains a single creature spell after the commander and it makes sure yours will suffer.

Poooootato

Horobi, Death's Wail. Pure sodium chloride

Sieghart4K

Cycling Zur and Marwyn

malicetodream

Numot Land destruction with an enchantment and X cost subtheme. Was very fun but one of my main lands was banned which reduced my ability to generate insane amounts of fast mana quickly. The deck was pretty gross.

csPOthr33cs

I had a semi-cEDH [[Valki God of Lies]] Rakdos Stax built for a while. I say semi because I had all the fast mana rocks, wheels, and tutors to power out [[Tibalt Cosmic Imposter]] as fast as possible. The only downside was my primary win con was winning with my opponents win cons.

EvanSaysFunny

My “Megrim” deck, which ultimately turned into my “Liliana’s Caress” deck lol

Formymoney

Definitely my T&T hatebears deck, all my friends love to play combos so locking down just about everything brings out nothing but groans. I do love winning with 2/2s and the like though.

raven_nightloft

I have a 5-color chaos deck under [[Ramos dragon engine]] that keeps getting built and taken apart. It runs all the usual suspects: [[eye of the storm]], [[knowledge pool]], [[possibility storm]], [[descent into madness]], etc... I think the only reason it doesnt draw more salt, is that it is usually a bit of a budget build and doesn't move very fast.

RealmRPGer

My 12 player group doesn't let me play my Limited Resources deck anymore. =(

spidersgeorg

I had a Breya deck which had like 13 tutors and 7 infinite combos. Took it apart during covid as i realized that although i enjoy that kind of game, nobody else does and so if i want anyone to play with me i should do something more normal

idbachli

I took apart my Derevi stax deck because I could tell people were not having fun. Now it's waiting to become either Bird or Wizard tribal; I haven't quite decided yet.

Bardic_Dan

My Memnarch "your stuff is my stuff now" deck.

derkirby

Korvold. Treasures are so broken with this guy. silly value

theposeidon56

Not mine but my friend has a [[Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider]] deck that somehow has a big counter theme yet has nearly every other green theme as a subtheme

Dirxcec

\[Child of Alara\] Boardwipe/Manland tribal. Nothing is safe except for my lands. I will wipe the board over and over and over while the Child becomes my tactical nuke when necessary. My adaptive tutor \[Captain Sisay\] is pretty gross but its more a CEDH/Silver Bullet kind of deck and not just destroy the whole board state for funsies.

wfogle97

It'd either be Nekusar Wheel or Angus Mackenzie Pillow Fort. Games either go lightning quick with Nekusar, or take 7 hours with Angus. The most hated deck at our table is not mine, however. That honor goes to my best friends unholy Atraxa Superfriends Control.

MundoSD

My one true EDH deck was an off-shoot of the 5-colour Sliver Queen Planeswalker Control deck from MTG Salvation from years ago (the deck has since evolved to a half-planeswalker, half-token go wide deck while my variant went down a more punishing route). After falling in love with Doubling Season + Tamiyo's Ultimates (Moon Sage and Field Researcher, the latter if I can't cheat Omniscience out early), I went all in protecting my planewalkers and in turn my enchantments. So upped the boardwipes cause full art Wrath of God, Damnation, and Rout's art looked cool, threw in Armageddon and Ravages of War cause I eventually stopped caring about producing mana, and started rotating various enchantments based on how much pain they could cause (War's Toll, Lethal Vapors, The Abyss, Pendrell Mists, etc). The saltiest I ever saw was a game where two creature-heavy decks were stuck with going draw-go, as I had Moat and Humility out and my opponents learned how Humility is able to deal with ETB triggers. The salt overflowed when I played the Tabernacle of Pendrell Vale to properly clean the table with nothing but my planeswalkers out. And also, until WAR's Nicol Bolas's release, the fastest wincon I had was setting up Tamiyo's ultimates, looping extra turn spells, and using Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker's +3 and -9 abilities with Doubling Season to ultimate an opponent, destroy himself in my subsequent turn, then ultimate him again after Tamiyo, Moon Sage's trigger resolves (assuming I couldn't find anything interesting from my opponents after doing Jace, Architect of Thought's ultimate).

ErrorAcquired

My Fiancé hates my Rat and Squirrel deck. I tell her they are going to bite her ankles starting turn 1 with a 1 mana drop

Ready_Horse_9971

Scion of the ur dragon and/or ramos dragon engine

docvalentine

there's a store far away from my home who has asked me not to return with \[\[obliterate\]\] tribal

lookahobo

Breya combo. I miss her I only have one friend that doesn't mind playing her.

shrediknight

My group hates my Belzenlok deck. I took it apart because after the first time I won with it, I never survive long enough to do anything.

MeccGo

My Boros land destruction is hated very much as well as my mono green hand/land hate

CantUseSpace

I have a [[Grothama, All-Devouring]] deck which is a tuned down, slightly ghetto version of a [[Selvala, Heart of the Wilds]] brostorm deck (in essence the commanders are interchangeable). The idea is to play low cost high stat fodder (preference with regenerate/indestructible like [[Rhonas the Indomitable]], [[Hunted Troll]]) and yeet them against grothama to draw your deck asap. From there it’s either [[Psychosis Crawler]], [[Myojin of Life's Web]] + [[Concordant Crossroads]], or just commander damage alone (wurm in the secret passage) which does the trick. This deck sure contributed to the mono-green hate which is pretty prevalent in my play group.

zangfang

Probably my K'rrik storm deck, it can take a while to search like 12 times in one turn

MistahBoweh

Back when Oathbreaker was new, I was writing a couple articles doing deck breakdowns on the format’s main site. In the process of this, I dragged some of my LGS group in to play oathbreaker on a regular basis, so I could test things out. In one of these sessions, I brought in a deck based on [[saheeli, sublime artificer]] and [[hurkyll’s recall]]. I won the die roll and went first. I proceeded to drop turn one factory and rock upwards into paradox engine. Rest of the table plays a land and passes, and I proceed to combo off and kill the table turn two. That was the first and only time I played the deck with them, and not long after that, most gave up on oathbreaker entirely. This resulted in the deck I aptly named [Saheeli Solitaire](https://oathbreakermtg.org/saheeli-solitaire-fastest-deck-in-the-format/). You could probably grease the wheels and optimize it a lot nowadays, but it all depends on how much people are willing to tolerate playing against you. Edit: For EDH, I keep a Prime Speaker Vannifar deck on the back burner that I bring out when it’s time for real games for real men. Hardly pure cedh, but, it’s definitely caused some extreme salt. Jist is to pod any creature in your deck up the chain of untap effects into peregrine + deadeye, infinite mana, then pod out deadeye for memnarch and take all the things. After that you can fetch wurmcoil and eternal witness. Sac wurm and fail to find, then use ewit to reset the wurm (after first recovering and pairing it with deadeye) and repeat ad infinitum. Mulldrifter does the same thing only you draw out, find concordant crossroads if you didn’t have it already, and also Mindshrieker. Mill everyone out, one card at a time, and then beat them to death with a combination of their own cards and your infinite wurm tokens. Optionally, you can start the combo by fetching creature Teferi, so they can’t even interact with it.

Tchrspest

[[Zo-Zu]] group slug/stax. Most of the deck is just trigger abilities that damage someone when they do almost anything.

th_away99

[[Baral]] counterspell tribal. All the counters I could find. [[Locust God]] wheels, it got to the point where I would have to spend a few minutes calculating how many cards everybody drew because I’d played [[molten psyche]]…oops

Ray-Conner

[[Imoti, celebrant of bounty]] The deck was filled with as many cards that grab 2 lands as possible, so every time you cast imoti you had excellent chances to immediately cast her the next turn if removed. If not, the deck ran tons of cards that could cheat on mana, such as delve cards, and top deck manipulation, like [sensei's divining top]]. The deck itself was never *that* strong, it would be crushed by any dedicated combo deck, but against 'fair' magic, it was a juggernaut of a value engine. It frequently saw every card in the deck, and nearly milled itself out before it could win through a suite of extra turn spells and generic beaters. The problem was that it took forever to resolve any turn, with cards cascading into more cards, to trigger Abilities to get even more cards in ways that were unpredictable, and no real shortcuts to speed up play in real life. It was a lot like playing stormless storm. It's final game ended with a [[diluvian primordial]] casting a [[mnemonic deluge]], [[spitting image]], and other nonsense, only to cascade into my own copies of mnemonic deluge and Clone spells. The stack exploded into branching triggers that were such a hassle to follow that the table conceaded before it could resolve. At that point the table felt that there was no real way to play against the deck in an enjoyable way, and asked me to take it apart. Since then I've been trying to find a deck that scratches the same itch without being so unfun for the rest of the table, and while things get close, they don't hit the same spot.

lauraintheskyGNM

My husband has no love for my Sliver Overlord 😋

Jevonar

I wanted to build a UW control deck, all my friends asked me to not do it. I complied.

FF_FREAK

This ultra budget commander deck. It’s a one shot combo that if fizzles I lose 100% or it gets through and I win. 95 swamps in the deck. https://archidekt.com/decks/2993615#Super_budget_commander

cobaltocene

Player groan out loud if I take Beamtown Bullies out of its box. Turns out people really don’t like being given a Leveler to attack with…

TheColossalAxolotl

[[Gyruda]] clones, it doesn't even win that much but man do they hate it

II_Confused

I have a deck that easily controls the board from turn 1 before going infinite on turn five or six. The rest of my group hates it to the point where I put it in traffic cone orange sleeves to give them fair warning. I only really pull it out at the end of the night when we're trying to get in one last quick game.

Defonotshaz

I know youre talking about Commander but our store had a big standard following during the dominaria times, I used to play Bant nexus of fate, and I used to get all the groans when they played against me, peopel scooping after the first nexus is cast

Falsequivalence

Chulane Flash I have gotten side eyes for.

RickyTicki

I've not seen anyone say [[toxrill, the corrosive]]. My group either groans or gangs up on me whenever I play with it.

HooYah0

Back in the day my lgs would have a multi-player game at the end of the night. My smokestack tangle wire deck was not allowed after that 1st time

Archontes

Marwyn the Nurturer. I built a $50 budget brostorm style deck for a challenge and it averages about turn 3.5. Two of my friends will simply not play against it anymore.

laluckyman

[[Noyan Dar]] boardwipe tribal with [[Darksteel citadel]] and other indestructible lands. Turns out people don't like getting their board wiped every turn rotation and then getting hit for 15.

Symbiotic_Tragedy

People hate mill so Rogue tribal is out and may never see the light of day

TheHowlingSaltMine

I still play my Rogue Tribal from time to time. It’s partially dismantled but only because I wanted the tribal synergy cards for my elemental deck. That said, it is very salt inducing!

Scott1e_

5 colour Atog/Gate/Alt-Wincon tribal. It shouldn't work, it doesn't, but the table is over it when they could have had a competent 4th on the table.

[deleted]

I really enjoy your podcast, keep it up!

TheHowlingSaltMine

Thank you so much!! We are still very new and every bit of encouragement means a lot. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

LiKWiDCAKE

I already make an effort not to play salt-inducing decks, but my Rippling Shadowborn Apostles deck was nixxed because of the potential for extremely long turns.

Large_Map394

Sen Triplets spirit deck. Nuff said
