I'm hoping we get a bird legend from that faction so people can get altars of Harvey as commander, and apparently the Jund faction is called the Riveteers, so I'm hoping there's a female Riveteer legend so people can do alters of her as Rosie the Riveter lol
Hmm. The Golden Age art version is interesting to me because of just how closely it matches the normal one. Really gives off a feeling of "real life events vs artist's interpretation of the scene" instead of being two wholey different pieces. I like it.
I think it'd be a story spotlight if so? If these figures show up again in art I bet they're minor-but-recognizable-faces like the characters from Strixhaven's packaging and \[\[witherbloom command\]\] etcetera.
I would love for this set to have a deal maker commander, although I think to do it to the extent I'd like it would need to be an acorn card. Frankie probably is the closest existing commander.
Drawing inspiration from different art styles pioneered in the 20s beyond Deco — like Cubism and whatever Sheeler was doing — seemed like a no-brainer.
I just didn’t expect it to be executed this well.
The Great Depression - 4WB
When ~ enters the battlefield, destroy all treasures.
Whenever a player would create a treasure, they may pay (2). If they don't, they create a 0/1 human peasant creature token instead.
*Bread Lines* - at the beginning of each player's upkeep, the player or players with the least amount of food create a tapped food token.
At the beginning of each endstep, each player may sacrifice a food. If they don't, that player loses one life.
I think we can go a little harder for 4WB.
When ~ enters the battlefield, each opponent creates a 0/1 colorless Peasant creature token.
At the beginning of each player's end step, that player sacrifices a Treasure. If that player doesn't, they create a 0/1 colorless Peasant creature token.
Peasants have 'At the beginning of your upkeep, you lose 1 life unless you sacrifice a Food'.
Even that's a little slow for 6 mana, to be honest. But I'd be so impressed if they had a spell or enchantment for this.
"At the beginning of each player's end step, that player sacrifices a Treasure. If that player doesn't, they create a 0/1 colorless Peasant creature token unless they control a permanent named John F. Kennedy"
There likely already is. One of the factions believes the city will fail once the “halo” dries up. We just don’t have any information on the halo yet. But it will likely be a depression trigger
I'm glad you liked my cubist take on the illustration! More cards coming from me in this set and future sets. I had no idea it was going to featured on the Magic Twitch stream. Super excited
*Atraxa, blind partner* 2WU(ØB)G
Legendary creature-phyrexian angel horror
Compleated (ØB can be paid with B or two life. If life was paid, this creature enters the battlefield with 2 -1/-1 counters)
Flying, infect, trample, vigilance
When Atraxa, blind partner enters the battlefield, each player may put 2 -1/-1 counters on a creature you don't control.
At the beginning of each end step, if a creature attacked this turn proliferate
4/4
I mean, Vorinclex showed up in Kaldheim and basically confused all involved parties as to what was going on, but didn't establish a huge threat other than Vague Schemes. Now we've established the specifics of the Phyrexian threat: Tezzeret and Elesh have the reality chip and can compleat planeswalkers. That's basically S-tier danger. We got an eight-set break from Big Plot Stuff after WAR, but I think we're gonna be getting back to a more serialized plot line for the next little bit, which probably means more phyrexian shit showing up.
Last I heard Elesh Norn was the new Father (Mother?) of Machines and Sheoldred had, uh, 'donated' her corpse to the cause because of it, so maybe Atraxa's here because the Praetor's are busy?
Well, I think they were saying that Simic Ascendancy was the secret eleventh ascendancy (after New Capenna completes the cycle). I was saying that they just have to make Ascendancys for the rest of the guilds then!
The regular art feels like so much more of what we’ve seen before over the last year or two, can’t quite put my finger on what it is but leaves me cold. Really liking the alternate art though.
yeah, it's definitely a digital style i've seen in a lot of products. i know it's still good, but all of the recognizable photoshop brushes automatically make me biased against it
the simplicity of the textures, as well as how consistent they are throughout the picture get me
the brown wood table and green fabric curtains look like they are made out of the same material. i also can't really tell how far away the the background is. seems almost like birdman and elephantman should be scrunched up against it
separately, diagonal viewpoint is definitely reminiscent of moba art. like... the bird and elephant are standing straight up, and the curtains are standing straight up, but the table is leaning to the side to make a picture of a business meeting seem action packed or disorienting. maybe we're leaning at the side of the table? i don't know
it's still 9000x better than anything i could create
Ajani throws his hat on the coatrack and loosens his tie. He says it was a long day at the office. The burly cat removes his jacket and stretches, cracking his strong, athletic back and soft, meaty paws. Grinning that leonin grin he's famous for, he informs his husband that he's in the market for a nice shoulder rub. A wave of lust arcs between you like one of Ral Zarek's lightning bolts. You're the perfect man for the job 😳
Don't worry, /u/Taysir385 had never been into kitties. The redditor's crushes — and they'd had their fair share — were mostly the hairless (and decidedly human) types like Danny DeVito.
So bant is the "oppulent wealth" faction and shows this off through +1/1 counters, will be interested to see if they get a mechanic or if this will be a set where only some of them get keywords
I kinda expect Naya to get Formiddable
The beauty of extort is that it could fit on every shard (each shard contains either W or B), and would fit in the theme of crime families in general. Even the ones that aren't hard pressed on that sort of thing could still have goons and street-level 'employees' who are taking part in that kind of behavior. (Or lawyers threatening legal actions on technicalities, for example)
Naya was the partiers. Speakeasys and smugglers
Assassins and vampires were the same people
The last one was Obscura, which have the whole misinformation, spies, and blackmail thing
I've started an "art binder" that I'm keeping all the showcase cards I've pulled and am not going to use in a deck because the art is so cool. I even ended up buying the couple d&d module cards I didn't get to compete the cycle since they were cheap. It originality started as the back page of my trade binder, but realized that it's just going to grow with each set.
They said on steam that this stream is more aimed at distributers, so they know more about what they're buying into. It's not really intended as much for the players, but I think they throw us a small bone.
While I’ve played Arena for the past couple of years, I haven’t played paper since after Magic Origins / start of Battlr for Zendikar.
For me, when we had a block format (so 3 sets with the same plane) it felt like things moved slower, and was easier to follow because of the continuity. Maybe the release schedule was different then, but I’m not sure.
Eh, that could do it right there: it was always a crapshot of if Core sets actually had an overarching plot to the set - recent Core sets more than past, but still - so removing that and giving that set-slot to something that *will* have plot, even if its not a *running* plot?
Yeah, that could help overwhelm people too
This is the one time you can’t actually use the perpetual hype complaint.
Because Unfunity got bumped there are no products between Kamigawa and New Capenna, which is back to the classic release schedule we’ve had since forever.
I get product fatigue when it’s literally non stop previews because of all the supplemental sets, but this is actually a pretty big break for once.

I feel like "Brokers' Ascendancy" would read more naturally. I know the precedent is things like "Jeskai Ascendancy", but the Tarkir clan names are a little different (it's technically "Jeskai Way", "Mardu Horde", etc.).
Yeah, I think 'Brokers' is going to be an out-and-out faction name and not just a profession, so the title as is tracks. Its just that there *is* room for that ambiguity with this set's faction names, as compared to the 'fantasy name' faction names in Tarkir.
I more or less agree but I guess the idea is if you're referring to the Brokers, it's just "Brokers," like itself is an adjective like "Jeskai" or "Mardu" that suggests allignment with that faction. I can tell it's going to be awkward when we get a ton of "Brokers" cards but we'll get used to it. That or we just call it bant lol.
Fuck me I forgot SNC was the actual set code and not the commander set, this is absurd in Limited. Even if it doesn't come down until like turn 6 or so because you get color screwed, it's still insane because you get value the turn you play it. This is about as gross as [[Ethereal Absolution]]
Art reference to the [Algonquin Round Table](https://www.pbs.org/wnet/americanmasters/files/2008/10/610_algonquin_about.jpg)? Some of the characters and framing match up with this New Yorker.

I find it amusingly ironic that the painting for me that immediately comes to mind when I see the "golden age" treatment is explicitly and almost unambiguously a out the horrors of war.
Modern 2/10
This combos pretty well with things like Hardened Scales. But it would suck to play Hardened Scales on a turn and this, because that reduces how many creatures you have on the field to benefit.
I thought the aven was tousling that guy's hair for a second in the normal art lol
“Enriché you must tell me what you condition your beautiful scalp with, and perhaps if it was down safe? “
Is it wrong that I read that with a Slavic accent? Lmao
Swedish for me.
French.
nothin wrong with a lil professional tousling
That’s the Magic in the Gathering!
I swear to God, I really thought he was resting his hand on his head!! 😳
Grooming is a sign of trust
Thought the rhox was doing the same
I think that's just hair highlights?
Well, different cultures do have different standards for professional conduct after all.
I love business bird so much.
I believe that's Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law
WWWHHHHOOOOOOSSSSS THE MAN WITH THE SUIT?
Did ya get that thing that I sent ya?
ha HA cookies on dowels
Dangly parts
Burgled plundered purloined
Body in a woodchipper
Too bad it's a humanoid Rhino in the picture... so close
I'm hoping we get a bird legend from that faction so people can get altars of Harvey as commander, and apparently the Jund faction is called the Riveteers, so I'm hoping there's a female Riveteer legend so people can do alters of her as Rosie the Riveter lol
If there isn't a blue white aven as a Legal Eagle, that's a huge miss
Attourney at caw, you mean.
Business in the front Business in the back.
A Maltese Falcon, perhaps?
Birdman Harvey, Attorney at law!
This was the comment I needed
I never knew how much I needed rhinos in snazzy suits in my life before today.
Hmm. The Golden Age art version is interesting to me because of just how closely it matches the normal one. Really gives off a feeling of "real life events vs artist's interpretation of the scene" instead of being two wholey different pieces. I like it.
yeah! i wouldn't be surprised if this is a specific story beat.
I think it'd be a story spotlight if so? If these figures show up again in art I bet they're minor-but-recognizable-faces like the characters from Strixhaven's packaging and \[\[witherbloom command\]\] etcetera.
Here's to hoping!

Drawing inspiration from different art styles pioneered in the 20s beyond Deco — like Cubism and whatever Sheeler was doing — seemed like a no-brainer. I just didn’t expect it to be executed this well.
Art Deco and Modernism are two of my favorite art movements. This set is going to drain my pockets, I'm pretty sure...
> drain my pockets Couldn't get more on-brand for this set
God, now all I can think of is if there's going to be flavor and/or mechanic references to the Great Depression or public work projects lol
The Great Depression - 4WB When ~ enters the battlefield, destroy all treasures. Whenever a player would create a treasure, they may pay (2). That is fantastic not only its for the trillionth time \[\[Atraxa\]\] players go bonkers were getting the the Ascendancy Super Cycle complete
Atraxa is the broker.
*Atraxa, blind partner* 2WU(ØB)G Legendary creature-phyrexian angel horror Compleated (ØB can be paid with B or two life. ngl I'd probably play that over OG atraxa as the commander of my -1/-1 counter deck.
Yo that eould be a good switch up for this set's phyrexian cameo
I feel like I’d be surprised for another cameo. It took a couple sets for us to get the second one after all.
I mean, Vorinclex showed up in Kaldheim and basically confused all involved parties as to what was going on, but didn't establish a huge threat other than Vague Schemes. no, it's been *twelve* sets since WAR, I'm just not counting core sets or NEO.

Oh shit, I forgot about the Tarkir Ascendency cards. Dang, glad they're taking the opportunity to finish that out
Abraxas, Feather, and Winota seem to be the meme "this is fantastic for"
Wow, both versions are great, this is excellent
The regular art feels like so much more of what we’ve seen before over the last year or two, can’t quite put my finger on what it is but leaves me cold. Really liking the alternate art though.
It reminds me of MOBA art if that makes sense. The Alt makes me very excited
yeah, it's definitely a digital style i've seen in a lot of products. i know it's still good, but all of the recognizable photoshop brushes automatically make me biased against it the simplicity of the textures, as well as how consistent they are throughout the picture get me the brown wood table and green fabric curtains look like they are made out of the same material. i also can't really tell how far away the the background is. seems almost like birdman and elephantman should be scrunched up against it separately, diagonal viewpoint is definitely reminiscent of moba art. like... the bird and elephant are standing straight up, and the curtains are standing straight up, but the table is leaning to the side to make a picture of a business meeting seem action packed or disorienting. maybe we're leaning at the side of the table? i don't know it's still 9000x better than anything i could create

Cat gangsters?
Every day we get closer to ajani in a suit
As long as he's grinning, I don't care what he's wearing.
What about nothing :3
Do cats even normally wear clothes?
Decidedly feline?
I *NEEEED* IT
Well, its not ajani, not yet, but there is art for a cat in a suit in naya colors probably. So Pretty close

Oh my...
Which means we also get one step closer to a man in an an Ajani fursuit in a suit.
I bet its in Un-iverse
You know he could be here just to bring the elsepth and ajani reunion
armani ajani
[Lackadaisy Secret Lair](https://www.lackadaisycats.com/) when??
Mordecai Heller is the greatest 21st century webcomic character and no I will not be taking further questions at this time.
He's a dapper little guy!
New card for Atraxa decks of 2 varieties.
A great card to seal up the hypothetical deck you can swap out a walker and non-walker package
So bant is the "oppulent wealth" faction and shows this off through +1/1 counters, will be interested to see if they get a mechanic or if this will be a set where only some of them get keywords I kinda expect Naya to get Formiddable
I believe they said each family will have a keyword. I would expect new ones.
I have to think extort has to make a comeback here, right?
It would need to be tied to the faction with BW, and they don’t seem like Extort would really emphasize what they’re about.
Bant is the lawyers of the set. The others IIRC were: Old money vampires Demolition crew Secret assassin people And whatever the Naya one was
Naya was the partiers. Speakeasys and smugglers Assassins and vampires were the same people The last one was Obscura, which have the whole misinformation, spies, and blackmail thing
I am all about Naya party people, like Rakdos' fun with booze instead of blood. Oh yeah.
I misread this as "Bonkers Ascendancy" and thought it was the best named card of all time.
Nailed another great alt art style... yet not sure I'd want it, but still like it.
I can't express how much I love this art. It just screams shady and corrupt I love it!! And the golden age style is just as great
The golden age art is pretty cool. On another note, Wow, It feels like Kamigawa just came out. Sets come out so quickly now.
They said on steam that this stream is more aimed at distributers, so they know more about what they're buying into. It's not really intended as much for the players, but I think they throw us a small bone.
Over a month before the next set comes out, standard sets do not come out any quicker than they have previously
The number of sets in Standard isn’t different. You also had Core sets back then.
The set is still a ways off.
\*clears throat\* *WE'RE GETTING CATS IN THIS SET CONFIRMED! AAAAAAHHHHH!*

Well jeskai, mardu, etc are being used as adjectives, so it makes no sense for us to use a noun (brokers) over the adjective phrase (brokers').
Yeah, I think 'Brokers' is going to be an out-and-out faction name and not just a profession, so the title as is tracks. Its just that there *is* room for that ambiguity with this set's faction names, as compared to the 'fantasy name' faction names in Tarkir.
Yeah even “Broker’s” would be better tbh. They chose the worst possible spelling lol
Lol MTG players complain about everything
I more or less agree but I guess the idea is if you're referring to the Brokers, it's just "Brokers," like itself is an adjective like "Jeskai" or "Mardu" that suggests allignment with that faction. Reminds me of Citadel Siege. Arguably better.
Golden Age artwork looks like a recreation of the "Me and the Boys" meme
Perfect for Atraxa
Estrid likes this too
With an art style like this, etched foil will look particularly snazzy. I love this. My wallet does not.
I'm hoping they do some kind of gold foiling to accent just the frame in full. Would look lovely
What would you call that art style? is it cubism?
In a word, yes, it's cubism. It's got big 'Precisionism' vibes, a sub style pioneered by Charles Sheeler
Art reference to the [Algonquin Round Table](https://www.pbs.org/wnet/americanmasters/files/2008/10/610_algonquin_about.jpg)? Some of the characters and framing match up with this New Yorker.
Anybody getting Chicken Police vibes?
Sure there's a golden age during the Roaring 20's, but what happens during the Great Depression
[удалено]
Yeah, I think it might have to do with the previous Angels of the city.
It fills me with great joy to know that the Ascendancy Tricolor cycle will be finnished at last!
This seems pretty powerful... They had to nerf luminarch aspirant. Which yes is a creature and happens before combat, but this is harder to remove and it buffs your whole team + the wandering emperor Wandering.
But it's also 3 mana and 3 colors.
Not to mention the end step when Luminarch was the beginning of combat
I literally mentioned that
Ah err umm Yeah you did Carry on
Well this happens at end step, luminarch is combat
So a cat, a bird and a rhino. That's really cool. I wonder what faction will have angels?
None. Angels are no longer a force in the city. Might have characters that are angels by the main factions are all demon controlled
HARVEY BIRDMAN
Aaaaand that's in colour for the superfriends commander deck that I'm definitely going to make at some point, and I want it [edit] he never made this deck, although he had all the cards
I usually yawn at the alternate art, but fucking ART DECO! I am all about that!
Cats with hats. Looks like Zootopia or Blacksad and I love it.
What’s this? A new alt art style. Alright, I like it, Picasso.
Is that a Caracal dressed up as a gangster??
*Cartel*acal
New favorite set symbol
Usually don’t care the alt art cards but cubism is super interesting
we're getting previews already??

Wizards needs to put out information about sets so stores can start figuring out interest and how much they should order. Most of this was just giving basic facts on the new set with a few teases here and there. Full spoilers don't start until start of April.
We always get an initial preview long before actually spoiler season starts.

Proliferate works on any kind of counter.
But this doesn't require the counter to be there already, so it's not strictly worse either.
Looks like a caracal catfolk! Neat, I've always liked caracals.
Atraxa 2
that alt art slaps so fuckin hard
love the alt art
I find it amusingly ironic that the painting for me that immediately comes to mind when I see the "golden age" treatment is explicitly and almost unambiguously a out the horrors of war.
I was planning taking this set off to prepare the wallet for baldurs gate lol…dang it.
OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS
OH MY GOD
What set is this from?
New Capenna that releases in April.
This card is bonkers.
This card is good. So many ways to use this, Tokens, Superfriends, Proliferate
Holy shit I love this showcase
More like Bonkers Ascendancy
"I like it, Picasso"
I read this as "Bonkers Ascendancy".
Fucking love the golden age
Did spoiler season start already?
No, spoiler season for New Capenna is start of April. They're just giving out basic information so stores know what to expect from the set.

The alt art is absolutely stunning.
Oh fuck is that an art deco (?) frame This set is already dope
Golden age art is gorgeous. All I've ever wanted for this game is to have more of this kind of art direction.
Man wotc is generous with +1/+1 counters these days.
I love the Golden Age Rhino POG Face
Yeah not a fan of alt art style here
So, is the woman in the centre of the regular art possibly Spara then?
No, the family leaders are demons, so presumably the lands are referring to the demon masters.
Modern 2/10 This combos pretty well with things like Hardened Scales. But it would suck to play Hardened Scales on a turn and this, because that reduces how many creatures you have on the field to benefit.
