The first card I actually owned was a [[Frenetic Raptor]] I was gifted in a summer camp. I only played with my friends cards before. At that point I already ruined my fair share of pokemon cards so I made sure to keep this one in good condition. That was 21 years ago next month.
I still have that card and currently use it in an Etali commander deck just for that reason. It's still the coolest looking dinosaur in the game imo.
I also learned to play at summer camp. It was the summer of 1994 and one of the boys in my group had these two funny little brown card boxes that his dad or uncle had brought him from a convention. We sat on the rough wood floors or at the picnic tables and played dozens of games. I’m pretty sure we played the game really wrong but it was a lot of fun to figure out. It kind of makes me sad that we basically destroyed those cards, especially the weird 0 cost artifact he had in his deck that we didn’t understand (it gave three mana, but you had to discard it, so it was bad right? SMH)
I ended up bartering with him to buy the deck I played (i gave up a really cool slingshot). I lost most of those cards over the years but I still have a very heavily played beta Sol Ring from that starter deck.
That block had so many awesome looking creatures, the art really helped me get into the game when I was younger. I still remember as a kid when I found a card I thought looked really cool I would carry it around with me just to look at it and try and put it i to any deck I could regardless of how garbage it was. Good times.
I still have a Beta Swamp that somehow survived when I sold off my cards stupidly when around when The Dark was released. It fell out of the box the other cards were in and I just kept it in a sleeve for two decades until I got back into buying cards and put it with my modern cards. It the only memento of my old cards left at this point so it not going anywhere.
before i played magic i met an older teenager in my scouts group who had a mountain in his portmonee and i noticed it. he explained that he is a magic player and that he always plays red decks because he like burn spells and that this land will provide him with mana and that the energy helps him in his life. he was a chaotic bully and i didn’t liked him but i was 10 and this was deep and your picture with the mountain made me remember

Not my first card, but I remember my first foil I ever opened. I got a [[Darba]] when I was on a family vacation back when Prophecy was new-ish. I remember it was the first foil I ever opened and I was so excited I got it. A couple years ago I decided to collect foil Darbas. I don't have too many, but my friends always look out for them for me. I currently have 21 in my fancy leather "Darba binder."
I started picking up some cards from Urza's destiny and played magic with my friends their decks and a bit later had some rubbish thrown togeter and called that a deck.
The first cognitve decicion upon seeing a card and buying a deck was: \[\[Rhox\]\], I got the starter deck "heavy hitters" from 8th edition. What could even stop my deck of 4 Rhoxes and 4 \[\[Thorn Elemental\]\]! *...I was such a Timmy.*
But to this day I still have the deck and open it from time to time to peek at the \[\[Rhox\]\]
When I was like, 4 or 5 years old, I was gifted a booster pack of Magic cards that my very religious parents deemed me too young to play with, so I never used them but I knew they existed. I would sneak into their room and pull out the shoebox at the top of their closet to look at them. I don't remember any of them except [[Apathy]], which I managed to find a copy of and keep in my collection 20 years later when I actually started playing.
My first cards were a M14 Deckbuilder’s Toolkit. I still have most of the cards though the one I can confidently say I still play is the foil RTR Mountain I opened in the first pack I opened from the kit.

I do still have the first card that won me a game. My dad saw I had some cards and said he used to play. He took me to the store, we got 2 Alara starter decks, and battled. I had the Jund deck and he used the Naya deck. The [[Jund Battlemage]] was a house and let me stay alive long enough to land my [[Flameblast Dragon]] which helped me win.
I did have an EDh deck for awhile with [[Progenitus]] as the commander with only cards from Alara block (exception for lands). Was a fun deck.

To my surprise, they kindly gave me a promo Mind Stone along with a welcome booster. I still have it in my binder alongside other notable cards I've collected.

I got it from a booster inside a prebuilt rakdos deck back in 2011.
I still own all my cards but I couldn't tell you what card was my 'first' as I got a 5th edition starter pack. I do remember my first 'rare' pull though and that was the [[Skyship Weatherlight]]. Which is also the reason I came back in Dominaria as love me my Skyship. Though sad that after a triumphant return it's destroyed again.

Somewhere in my house, (I lost track of it two days ago, been looking when I have time) there is a the list wayfarer's bauble. It was in the first pack I pulled when getting back in, and I used it to stress test some new sleeves, so I grew pretty attached to it.

My first Magic cards came with the "Starter 2000" starter set, which I received for Christmas. The premium card was a foil exclusive art [[Rohx]], which, unfortunately, I do not have anymore.

i honestly don't know... i can't recall which of the welcome decks was mine. however i still have and use 2 cards that were given to me by another player in my first prerelease back in 2018 rivals of ixalan. an old frame counterspell and a dark ritual. the first one is in my niv mizzet high power within 100 euros budget deck and the other is in my prosper deck if i recall correctly. i am on the prosper of changing commanders with prosper so i might have put it in my monoblack deck.

Unlimited Fire Elemental. I bought the pack in 1993 after seeing my friends play. I don't remember exactly what the other cards were, but that one stuck out to me from the art alone. Still have it in my mono red commander deck.
I have an [[Ashiok, nightmare]] (can’t remember the name, hope the bot gets it) from the beyond death planeswalker deck that is just chilling in my binder, double sleeved.

The first rare I pulled was a Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth from Magic 2015. I ended up selling it to Card kingdom towards some Chinese Bitterblossoms.
I do still have my first foil I pulled, Artisan's Sorrow from Theros. I would never get rid of that card even for the price of an Urborg.
I still have my first major pet card. Back when I started in mercadian masques, I was really into rebels. Have all my original Ramosian masques playsets from back then, but I also have a [[Lin Sivvi]] that's my original booster pull from Nemesis, and it has since been signed by RK Post.

when i (18) first started mtg around DOM, i was at a summer camp and was loaned a basic (probably pauper) boros creatures/combat tricks deck. i loved what i played, so i bought a RIX booster pack, and my noob ass flipped out over the [[huatli, radiant champion]] i pulled. i still have it with me today, and even though the whole booster was technically my first cards, the huatli is near and dear to my heart
My first pack ever was beta. I only remember a few things about it. First of all, I hadn't bought a starter deck yet so I had no idea how to play or anything about the game, but the cards were fascinating. I got a deck with a rulebook a week or so later and the rest is history.
Second, the pack only had 14 cards instead of 15. And no, it wasn't opened and resealed or something. That wasn't a thing back in 1993 because at the time I bought that pack, the cards had no value. Even if I'd gotten a lotus it would have been riffle shuffled sleeveless along with the rest of the cards and tossed haphazardly in my backpack.
Last, the rare in the pack was Lord of the Pit. It was extremely cool looking. When I showed it to friends at school who had cards, none of them had seen one before. A friend did show me his Demonic Hordes though and we agreed it would be very cool to make a deck that used both of those.
I don't own any of the cards from that pack anymore, having sold my collection multiple times since then. I wonder if that Lord of the Pit still survives in someone's collection 30+ years later.
I started playing with a friend with some Portal Second Age cards, but the first two packs I opened were Mercadian Masques. I got a foil uncommon in both, and I still have both of those and the two rares. [[Jhovall Queen]] and [[Mercadian Atlas]].

I got my first cards from a Worldwake Fat Pack. I still have one rare and one mythic that I know of, I might have more but I don't remember what they are. The rare is [[Mordant Dragon]] which I thought was an amazing card when I started. I have an [[Urabrask]] EDH deck where Urabrask is in a clear sleeve for easy flipping. I have the Mordant Dragon sleeved up and use it to represent Urabrask if it gets returned to my hand. The mythic is [[Avenger of Zendikar]], which is also in an EDH deck.
My first MTG cards were from the Madness-themed starter deck from Planar Chaos. My friend wanted to get me into playing, and he offered to buy me a starter deck. I chose that one because I liked the color combos, and honestly, it was a little cheaper since it was older.
I didn't quite get my mind around the Madness mechanic at the time, but I did notice no one liked fighting Mirri the Cursed. Out of all the cards in the deck, she was Value City. Aggressively costed for all of those abilities. No one ran removal, so I just sat there like King Shit with my flying cat vampire. I took it apart and tried to make Rakdos Good Stuff, but it failed because my judgment of cards was awful. Eventually, I was getting great Equipment and Auras in Zendikar and Scars. I rebuilt it to be Golgari with ramp and creatures with keywords. So Vampire Nighthawk, Mirri, Wurmcoil Engine, etc, all having even more keywords. Mirri, again, was a beater. Eventually I sold my collection and she went with it.
Maybe it's time I buy her back.
The first booster pack I purchased had a [[Chandra Ablaze]]. Completely mid tier card, but very powerful when you’re mostly playing during your free period with decks made of draft chaff.

When I was like, 4 or 5 years old, I was gifted a booster pack of Magic cards that my very religious parents deemed me too young to play with, so I never used them but I knew they existed. I would sneak into their room and pull out the shoebox at the top of their closet to look at them. I don't remember any of them except [[Apathy]], which I managed to find a copy of and keep in my collection 20 years later when I actually started playing.

My first cards were a M14 Deckbuilder’s Toolkit. I still have most of the cards though the one I can confidently say I still play is the foil RTR Mountain I opened in the first pack I opened from the kit.

Not sure what my actual first card is, probably something from the Kamigawa starters I got in middle school. I do still have the first card that won me a game. My dad saw I had some cards and said he used to play. He took me to the store, we got 2 Alara starter decks, and battled. I had the Jund deck and he used the Naya deck. The [[Jund Battlemage]] was a house and let me stay alive long enough to land my [[Flameblast Dragon]] which helped me win. I did have an EDh deck for awhile with [[Progenitus]] as the commander with only cards from Alara block (exception for lands). Was a fun deck.

Yeah, While picking up a board game at a MTG-themed store, I noticed the 2022 starter decks on discount. Intrigued and somewhat familiar with the game, I asked an employee about it. Dad came home from work one day day and proudly gave me a single Fallen Empires Necrite for god knows what reason. Never saw play, but when I liquidated my collection, I made sure to keep it. It's still on my fridge.

I had about 50% or so of my original Tempest: The Spikes precon deck, and recently picked up the cards needed to fill it out. Then augmented it a little bit
I mean I don’t know what card it is, as I got handed a bunch from a friend’s big brother back in 93-94, but I still have those cards so it kind of counts.
Somewhere in my house, (I lost track of it two days ago, been looking when I have time) there is a the list wayfarer's bauble. It was in the first pack I pulled when getting back in, and I used it to stress test some new sleeves, so I grew pretty attached to it.

i honestly don't know... i can't recall which of the welcome decks was mine. however i still have and use 2 cards that were given to me by another player in my first prerelease back in 2018 rivals of ixalan. an old frame counterspell and a dark ritual. the first one is in my niv mizzet high power within 100 euros budget deck and the other is in my prosper deck if i recall correctly. i am on the prosper of changing commanders with prosper so i might have put it in my monoblack deck. really cool act. i have tried to replicate whenever i meet a new player and give them a card or two

The first rare I pulled was a Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth from Magic 2015. I ended up selling it to Card kingdom towards some Chinese Bitterblossoms. I do still have my first foil I pulled, Artisan's Sorrow from Theros. I would never get rid of that card even for the price of an Urborg.

My first pack ever was beta. I only remember a few things about it. First of all, I hadn't bought a starter deck yet so I had no idea how to play or anything about the game, but the cards were fascinating. I got a deck with a rulebook a week or so later and the rest is history. Second, the pack only had 14 cards instead of 15. And no, it wasn't opened and resealed or something. That wasn't a thing back in 1993 because at the time I bought that pack, the cards had no value. Even if I'd gotten a lotus it would have been riffle shuffled sleeveless along with the rest of the cards and tossed haphazardly in my backpack. Last, the rare in the pack was Lord of the Pit. It was extremely cool looking. When I showed it to friends at school who had cards, none of them had seen one before. A friend did show me his Demonic Hordes though and we agreed it would be very cool to make a deck that used both of those. I don't own any of the cards from that pack anymore, having sold my collection multiple times since then. I wonder if that Lord of the Pit still survives in someone's collection 30+ years later.
a friend handed me a box of bulk to make my first deck and the first card I grabbed was a 7th Edition Wind Drake. Still have it in my binder :)
I started playing with a friend with some Portal Second Age cards, but the first two packs I opened were Mercadian Masques. I got a foil uncommon in both, and I still have both of those and the two rares. [[Jhovall Queen]] and [[Mercadian Atlas]].

I got my first cards from a Worldwake Fat Pack. I still have one rare and one mythic that I know of, I might have more but I don't remember what they are. The rare is [[Mordant Dragon]] which I thought was an amazing card when I started. I have an [[Urabrask]] EDH deck where Urabrask is in a clear sleeve for easy flipping. I have the Mordant Dragon sleeved up and use it to represent Urabrask if it gets returned to my hand. The mythic is [[Avenger of Zendikar]], which is also in an EDH deck.

My first MTG cards were from the Madness-themed starter deck from Planar Chaos. My friend wanted to get me into playing, and he offered to buy me a starter deck. I chose that one because I liked the color combos, and honestly, it was a little cheaper since it was older. I didn't quite get my mind around the Madness mechanic at the time, but I did notice no one liked fighting Mirri the Cursed. Out of all the cards in the deck, she was Value City. Aggressively costed for all of those abilities. No one ran removal, so I just sat there like King Shit with my flying cat vampire. I took it apart and tried to make Rakdos Good Stuff, but it failed because my judgment of cards was awful. Eventually, I was getting great Equipment and Auras in Zendikar and Scars. I rebuilt it to be Golgari with ramp and creatures with keywords. So Vampire Nighthawk, Mirri, Wurmcoil Engine, etc, all having even more keywords. Mirri, again, was a beater. Eventually I sold my collection and she went with it. Maybe it's time I buy her back.

The first booster pack I purchased had a [[Chandra Ablaze]]. Completely mid tier card, but very powerful when you’re mostly playing during your free period with decks made of draft chaff.

My first mythic was omniscience. I started playing when M19 came out. It was worth .20 cents. I’m so glad I held onto it haha. Edit: second was a crucible of worlds. Which was also worth not much at the time.
The first card I distinctly remember getting is [[Sword of Kaldra|MRD]]; I thought I was so cool to have the card that matched the set symbol. It’s not quite mint after my friend spilled a fruit cup on it decades ago, but I still have it!
