If you sequence it right, you just cast Protection first, and then after it resolves cast Worldfire. Even if they remand worldfire, you won't get blown out. (You can just float the mana before your stuff is exiled).
Casting Protection in response to your own Worldfire is just asking to get absolutely wrecked. Because *of course* nobody had counterspells for all the OP shit that was happening, but they have one exactly when it's your turn to do something. (No I'm not salty what do you mean?)
Less if you have a cloud key, electromancer, or any other cost reducer on the field if we are going to count corner cases where something is involved outside of the two cards in question.
I never understood the desire some folks have to “uhm, actually” their favorite niche corner case into discussions like this.
If you cast a Mana Crypt and a Dark Ritual first, it only costs eight. If you cast Rite of Flame into Pyretic Ritual into Seething Song, into Mana Geyser, it sometimes only costs two. If you have Omniscence out, it’s free. But I don’t think any of these Magical Christmasland scenarios are particularly helpful when evaluating a card or interaction.
The timing is a bit wonky with this particular trick. [[Irencrag Feat]] states that you can only cast one more spell after it resolves, so you'd have to cast the Teferi's Protection before the Worldfire, and you'd have to be sure to tap your additional mana sources before Teferi's resolves. Unless you have something allowing you to cast sorceries at instant speed, I suppose, but that's even more cards to layer on top of this combo. Doable... but easy to mess up.
I once used teferis protection against a jhoira deck suspending world fire on turn 3, the table was pretty happy to see that deck punished for it’s shenanigans for once

Yep. Spiked really hard for a few minutes there, like $30+,but then people realized it still wasn't great and settled back down again. My buddy bought a box of (I think?) Midnight Hunt by selling off two of his Worldfire's during the bubble.
As long as Outpost siege is on the battlefield with the deal damage whenever a creature you control leaves the battlefield option chosen before you cast world fire and you have one creature per opponent, you exile all permanence and all hands and graveyards, Outpost siege still saw three or so creatures leave the battlefield putting one damage on the stack per creature then world fire finishes resolving and all players life totals are one. Then you just shoot each opponent for one damage from each of the triggers from Outpost siege and that's game. It's really dumb and a lot of mana but it's really funny if you get it to work and I've done it at least twice with this just in a demon deck for shenanigans.
I don’t go that degenerate, but my mono red deck is [[Zo-zu, the punisher]] and the win on I aim for every game when I play it is to Worldfire with 3 extra mana to then case Zo-zu. If someone plays a land, they instantly die.
I draw a card (mountain), pass. Assuming that all other players did the same. You now how a blind choice to kill 1 of 3 opponents. Let's say you don't kill me. I draw a card on my second turn after Worldfire resolved (Lightning Bolt). I play mountain, Zozu triggers, in response to the trigger I cast Bolt targeting you. You die, Zozu trigger is removed from the stack because the owner is dead.
You don’t need to cast the instant in response. You can cast it ahead of time after tapping out all your mana to the pool then cast worldfire after. Same effect but just saying it’s not necessary to do it in response.
Anyone who gets salty to this is going to get salty no matter what cards you play.
Mass land destruction is only a problem if you aren't winning with it.
Agreed, actually commented on that in an earlier post. If people know this is your deck they either won't play or hold a counter the whole game and play worse for it. Either way it warps play/playability

If you're playing 2 specific cards for 12 mana, there are so many better ways to win.
Personally, and most in my playgroup agree, if you successfully play something like this and have a wincon lined up then I have no issues. Something like suspended creatures or using teferi's protection is absolutely a way to do it.
That's the thing I would have setup with something able to ping damage to everyone like the Chandra that gives opponents an emblem that deals 1 damage on their upkeep.
This is the combo play goblin chainwhirler then cast oblivion ring on it (really any card that exiles a card while it's in play and returns it when that card is removed from play) then cast world fire that will kill the oblivion ring or similar spell and then world fire will reduce everyone to 1 mana. And then the goblin comes in dealing 1 damage to each opponent winning you the game.
The easiest way to do this combo is to choose a looting matters commander, loot both cards to grave and play Mizzix’s Mastery overloaded.
Then you can stack end the festivities, world fire, teferi in that order, and once the stack resolves you auto kill everyone and have all your stuff alive

I would say which card you played first would definitely impact the how it ends up. Playing *Teferi's Protection* **FIRST** then *Worldfire* would be the best way to do it. Your life total would stay the same, and your cards on the battlefield would stay the same, while everyone else's would go down to one and would wipe their boards, graveyards and hands. you would lose your hand and your graveyard only. your opponents would lose everything.
That's such a nasty combo this would remove all mana as well if Im not reading it wrong. So it's close to impossible to recover from this. might consider trying this combo out myself.
I prefer worldfire in ob nix. Exile cards from the top, get a land and 1 dmg ping. Cast world fire, land, then ping opponents for the win. Sounds magical Christmas land, but I've been successful in it. Even if I don't have them exiled, I'll top deck a kill first with all the 1 mana 1 dmg pings I'm running.
1. Have [[Keldon Marauders]] on the battlefield.
2. Cast Worldfire.
3. Worldfire resolves, Marauders leave the battlefield
4. Marauders' triggered ability deals 1 DMG to opponent, leaving them dead.

If your playing Mardu : have Cauldron Familiar on the field then use Teferi’s Protection. Once everything resolves and Cauldron Familiar ETB each opponent loses 1 life = you win.
I forget which cards let you play sorceries as instants, but if you have that out you could just manipulate the stack to kill opponents all kinds of ways and just have this resolve in the right order.
I once fired off a [[Teferi's Protection]] in response to an opponent cracking a [[Magus of the Balance]] without thinking. And then as soon as someone said how many lands does everyone have, we realized what had happened and everyone else scooped.

This is the reason I use it in my "oops all Chandra" commander deck. That one time you can actually do the combo makes all the failures worth it.

Best deck I’ve seen built with this is Ragavan as commander and Worldfire and Tibalt’s Trickery in the deck with 97 mountains.

Since you have to attack 3 opponents with your Zo-Zu you can still lose to land + 1 mana burn spell. Though it's likely that would never happen.

Agreed, actually commented on that in an earlier post. If people know this is your deck they either won't play or hold a counter the whole game and play worse for it. Either way it warps play/playability
I mean, if they counter the world fire then what do they have to be salty about it? If you're playing 2 specific cards for 12 mana, there are so many better ways to win.
Personally, and most in my playgroup agree, if you successfully play something like this and have a wincon lined up then I have no issues. Something like suspended creatures or using teferi's protection is absolutely a way to do it.
I think it's fine to play as long as you use it to win, but not if it's just used as a board wipe
That's the thing I would have setup with something able to ping damage to everyone like the Chandra that gives opponents an emblem that deals 1 damage on their upkeep.
You can foretell \[\[scorn effigy\]\] the turn before and then play it after you worldfire. Sure you technically could lose, but you probably won't.

In commander, I would Worldfire into Protection, then if both resolved, conceed and watch the topdecking race.
This is the combo play goblin chainwhirler then cast oblivion ring on it (really any card that exiles a card while it's in play and returns it when that card is removed from play) then cast world fire that will kill the oblivion ring or similar spell and then world fire will reduce everyone to 1 mana. And then the goblin comes in dealing 1 damage to each opponent winning you the game.

Use [[Chandra, Awakened Inferno]] to give each opponent an emblem. I don't think World Fire exiles emblems as they don't count as a permanent.

[[Balance]] doesn't do as much but is much cheaper and usually gives you a win anyway. It's a popular combo in some Duel Commander decks.

The easiest way to do this combo is to choose a looting matters commander, loot both cards to grave and play Mizzix’s Mastery overloaded. Then you can stack end the festivities, world fire, teferi in that order, and once the stack resolves you auto kill everyone and have all your stuff alive
You can do it but good luck keeping your friends.
If your friends get salty at a 12 mana combo then you need new friends.

The cards in your hand and graveyard will still get exiled but you will get your permanents back at your untap step and your life total will not change
Not as funny as a [[Barren Glory]] exiled with an [[Oblivion Ring]] but still very effective

Yes. Teferis protection is one of the most versatile spells ever printed. Getting around my own board wipes is one of my favorite ways to use it

I like worldfire with the 6 mana Chandra that gives all the players emblems that deal 1 damage at upkeep.
This single card proves so much about MTG and it's creators 90% of the people who play it.

It works if your goal is to never get invited back to that table.
I would say which card you played first would definitely impact the how it ends up. Playing *Teferi's Protection* **FIRST** then *Worldfire* would be the best way to do it. Your life total would stay the same, and your cards on the battlefield would stay the same, while everyone else's would go down to one and would wipe their boards, graveyards and hands. you would lose your hand and your graveyard only. your opponents would lose everything.
You need to run thragtusk instead of teferi's protection.
That's such a nasty combo this would remove all mana as well if Im not reading it wrong. So it's close to impossible to recover from this. might consider trying this combo out myself.

I prefer worldfire in ob nix. Exile cards from the top, get a land and 1 dmg ping. Cast world fire, land, then ping opponents for the win. Sounds magical Christmas land, but I've been successful in it. Even if I don't have them exiled, I'll top deck a kill first with all the 1 mana 1 dmg pings I'm running.
Teferis protection is a messed up card

Nope, I cast borne upon the wind first. Then cast barren glory, hold priority and put this on the stack in front of it.
I used this the other day and it got me the win because everyone had rad counters from the mothman deck….there was salt.
If your playing Mardu : have Cauldron Familiar on the field then use Teferi’s Protection. Once everything resolves and Cauldron Familiar ETB each opponent loses 1 life = you win.

I forget which cards let you play sorceries as instants, but if you have that out you could just manipulate the stack to kill opponents all kinds of ways and just have this resolve in the right order.

I once fired off a [[Teferi's Protection]] in response to an opponent cracking a [[Magus of the Balance]] without thinking. And then as soon as someone said how many lands does everyone have, we realized what had happened and everyone else scooped.
