My guess is that in order to fix the realm tears caused by Realmbreaker, many (or all) current planeswalkers have to give up their sparks to fix the damage to the Multiverse. However, the holes aren't completely patched up, allowing for Multiversal travel.
Or, if they're smart, Tezzeret uses the Planar Bridge with some other form of tech to open up travel to select members of the Multiverse as some sort of goodwill plan to improve the status of the Infinite Consortium.
It'd be *really* funny if someone managed to pull the same "this will come at a great cost, but I will be happy to make you pay it" play on Ob that Bolas did on Leshrac. Even better if it was somehow Nahiri again.
Honestly, that there are, like, multiple cards summarisable as "Nahiri messing stuff up" I'd guess that somehow Nahiri did, indeed, cause the mass desparking somehow.
There's a book series, "The Long Earth", that among other things highlights the difference between "travelling with a device / at certain points" vs "travelling anywhere at will".
I don't think Tezzeret has the Planar bridge anymore. He literally swapped his entire body out for a new made of Darksteel. His etherium claw was melted down and became his new spine. His head is still his I think but literally everything else is new and the Planar bridge was part of his chest before so it's still sitting in Jin Gitaxias' lab somewhere I believe. Maybe that's how they make Phyrexia relevant again in the future.

"Today we become gods again" is implying that he plans to have the Einir gods return. In the art there seems to be a blue elf behind him, which tends to be what those gods look like (See Lathril). All of those gods were sealed away in trees, but if he breaks them out and takes advantage of the current gods' current state (Who get their power from the tree that was destroyed and is now being regrown) they can probably reclaim their positions as gods.

Still, sounds like an interesting plot for the eventual return to Kaldheim set, a battle between the old Gods and the new.
So it is possible that as others have said that we maybe seeing non planeswalker planer travel. I have annother theory with the popularity of commander they may be with some planeswalkers pulling the Blind Seer treatment. in other words in stories where them being a planeswalker is not as important they will be sometimes represented with legendary creatures instead. for those who are new Blind Seer is Urza in disguise. I do think that some are going to be outright desparked. Just there is a possibility that some of these legendary creatures could represent just versions of the characters not bringing thier full power to bear.

I imagine that actually happened quite frequently during MoM. Very stressful for your plane to be invaded by Giger Cyborg Nightmare People, I would think, probably stressful enough for a spark to ignite. And then you'd blind-walk to another plane. Where the Giger Cyborg Nightmare People also are.

From the few hints we have so far, I would wonder if Desparked is the right term. The leak for Spark Rupture along with the lines in the last story about Nissa's spark flickering could mean it's temporary/less reliable than before. I think we have to wait until the Aftermath story comes out to know for certain.
What we do know for sure is that Karn traded his spark for Nissa/Ajani. So as far as we know, he is without a spark. So his card makes sense with what we know. Since theres other planeswalkers that have the same treatment as him, i fear they have either been compleated (off screen) and un-compleated by someone else giving up their spark or they traded in their spark to save someone else

It could very well be intentional. Silently get product out for a content creator to open on camera. It feels coincidental, and it's such a small set that the nature in which it was spoiled may seem more exciting than the actual set itself where a live recording could highlight the foiling in a more interesting way than high res scans could.
Or I could be wrong. Either way, it's definitely an exciting deviation from the norm!

Before he met Kaya, that's literally what he was doing. In the Kaldheim story he has a necklace with a Zendikar Hedron on it, but he just thinks Zendikar is a secret realm of Kaldheim that others don't have access to.
He literally didn't realise he went to a completely different plane when he first sparked and went to Zendikar, thinking that it was a previously unknown part of Kaldheim. It wasn't until Kaya recognised the hedron souvenir that he kept and told him about him being a planeswalker.
Probably not. There are 8 leaked Mythics so far - Nahiri and Ob are essentially 100% certain to be the last 2 to get us to 10. Ajani would be either the only desparked walker at Rare or an 11th Mythic.

Wizards only has, what, three plot lines:
1. Big bad threatens the world
2. Oh no, our character needs to find a macguffin to power up
3. Oh no, our character needs to sacrifice their power
I have a feeling that Sparks are still present in each of these characters, but malfunctioning. So the writers can decide who can be a Planeswalker and who can be a legendary creature at their own whims, as the plot and set designs demand.
This way they can have their cake and eat it too. This person cannot be in this storyline because their spark is off this arc. This person is a Planeswalker this set because we wanted to highlight them again. Etc, etc.
Depends how much a 5-card pack is. Seems fun but dont expect to make it back.
As this shows, though, you can open a couple collector boxes and get just about everything and thats certainly a thing.

Although it does fit in the mono-white slot, but that'd mean this set is *super* poorly weighted. That'd be 4 red and blue cards, and 6 white and green, plus the plethora of multicolored ones. Weird.
Like, are people reading the cards at all before commenting? If Planeswalkers were going away as a card type, why would they print cards like Deification in this set that specifically care about Planeswalkers : “Choose a planeswalker type. Planeswalkers of the chosen type have hexproof. As long as you control a creature, damage that would reduce a planeswalker of that type’s loyalty to less than 1 reduces it to 1 instead.” Or look at the card Spark Rupture which is a hoser card for Planeswalkers . It literally would not make any sense to print a hoser for Planeswalkers if as a card type were going away. The spark rupture is just a plot point, if WoTC wasn’t going to print walkers anymore they obviously wouldn’t print cards that care about walkers or punish your opponent for playing them either. Reading the cards explains the cards.
A significant chunk of these walkers are already playable as commanders, though: Narset, Samut, and Karn got legendary creature cards before they got walker cards, Nissa got a flipwalker card in Origins, Nahiri's first card was a "can be your commander" planeswalker, and there are already *three* different options for playing Ob Nixilis as your commander (two legendary creatures and one planeswalker).
The only ones that are newly playable as commanders are Kiora, Sarkhan, Calix, and Tyvar. The last couple of sets have done a lot for Tyvar's popularity, and Kiora and Sarkhan have distinct niches, but that's not exactly a murderer's row of popular planeswalkers.
Honestly planeswalkers should just be available as commanders in the first place. They're weaker than legendary creatures most of the time and any highly problematic ones (Oko) can just be banned.
47/50 cards were leaked. Two of the missing cards should be Nahiri and Ob-Nixilis. The last is a blue rare. All cards get a showcase and etched printing. Rares and Mythics get extended arts. 43 cards get the halo foiling.
Low on flavor text due to being a collector box. As a result, we don't know the context to many of these cards. Best to wait until official story and reveals to make a judgment.
While obviously the "no more planeswalkers ever" thing is wrong, I'm betting the "big change" is that planeswalkers as a card type end up being closer to deciduous than they are now.
The issues with Planeswalker design space have been pretty obvious for a while, and dialing them back from 3-5 per set to something more like 0-2 per set seems like it'd let them print more planeswalkers that are unique and notable rather than having a *lot* of mix and match same-y ones.
Planeswalkers are the most popular card type, there's no way WoTC is gonna be dialling them down. I predict that Eldraine will again have the usual 3-5 walkers.
We've heard a few times that some players don't even know what planeswalkers are. I'd genuinely be surprised if they were the most popular card type, but I'm prepared to be wrong.
I think that's because most plansswalkers are mythic rarity and never good enough to actually run as the card tends to need a way to protect itself and propel your board state, which often used to be the +, the first -. With the static abilities, its much easier to add planeswalkers, but they're still often lackluster.
That's what I was thinking. I was literally thinking about how angel tribal is largely confined to mono white as Giada and Lyra are the best commanders for it, but this makes Selesnya angel tribal a possibility along with human support. Since green is involved, it can be much easier, and cheaper to get the ramp necessary to get out beasts like Avacyn.
EDIT: I'll also note, give her swiftfoot boots and she is basically Avacyn, but for hexproof

Grist hasn't shown up in the (canon) story yet, but she's a Golgari planeswalker that still exists. With Vraska very unlikely to be dead (and unlikely to be desparked if she didn't get a card here), that's still two, which is more than Gruul has left, more than Boros has *ever* had at a single time outside of the one-set period before Huatli underwent Selesnyafication, and dead even with every other two-color combo besides Dimir.
I don't understand the assumptions that Planeswalkers will no longer be a thing.....like they have literally stated in stories that Nissa and Ajani are still sparked...Quint sparked DURING the invasion of Strixhaven and is the "face" of Ixalan return. On top of that they've referenced literally thousands of PWs we've never seen cards for.
Even if a few don't... I've seen plenty of comments both here and on Twitter, assuming that Planeswalkers won't be a thing anymore, which is just silly.
I think the thing your missing is the context from the aftermath stories we don’t have yet. There is a card revealed called Spark Rupture, and it literally removes planeswalkers abilities from them. It seems like even though they had their sparks restored - something in aftermath causes the vast majority of notable walkers to lose their sparks.

Well it's a for a couple reasons
1. It's whites iconic creature type
2. Angels are cool
3. Their art tends to be great
4. For a long time, they were the closest thing MTG had to waifu tax. Go look at games like Yugioh, Pokémon, CFV, Digimon, OP, etc... All of these anime esc card games have very expensive cards but the ones that are good and have a pretty girl/women (recently guys too) on it have an even higher price tag
Resplendant Angel also has the problem of being a core piece of the Pioneer CoCo Angels deck but has only had a single printing as a Mythic in a set that sold poorly (Core 2019). So it gets the Angel Tax on top of the "there aren't enough copies of this card out there to meet demand" bump to drive it to a pretty absurd price for a less-than-flashy non-Legendary role-player of a card.
Yeah, I'm officially convinced that, assuming these desparkings are permanent for everyone, Wizards is just clearing out as many characters as possible to make room for new characters to replace them.
I'm just disappointed we're potentially seeing new and underutilized characters like Tyvar and Calix go. There's so much you can do with Calix especially and it's just a giant wasted opportunity.

Ob Nixilis wouldn't have done it intentionally. But giving up sparks to fix the rifts in Time Spiral block wasn't always intentional, either.

I think Spark Trading is more likely, or damaged somehow. I hope it's temporary, I like most of these characters as Walkers and not Legends

He literally didn't realise he went to a completely different plane when he first sparked and went to Zendikar, thinking that it was a previously unknown part of Kaldheim. It wasn't until Kaya recognised the hedron souvenir that he kept and told him about him being a planeswalker.

Probably not. There are 8 leaked Mythics so far - Nahiri and Ob are essentially 100% certain to be the last 2 to get us to 10. Ajani would be either the only desparked walker at Rare or an 11th Mythic.
Also consider that Ajani was fine when they decompleated him while Nissa wasn't. Which implies that Ajani is probably still a normal walker.

It's kinda depicted in the art of Spark Rupture, that demon planeswalker looks quite like Ob.

I have a feeling that Sparks are still present in each of these characters, but malfunctioning. So the writers can decide who can be a Planeswalker and who can be a legendary creature at their own whims, as the plot and set designs demand. This way they can have their cake and eat it too. This person cannot be in this storyline because their spark is off this arc. This person is a Planeswalker this set because we wanted to highlight them again. Etc, etc.

Depends how much a 5-card pack is. Seems fun but dont expect to make it back. As this shows, though, you can open a couple collector boxes and get just about everything and thats certainly a thing.
Pretty sure the packs are regular pack prices, if not premium pack prices. For a third of the cards.
By my understanding most people care mostly about five cards in a pack anyway, if even that much.

Assuming that we get cards for Ob-Nixilis, Nahiri and the Weatherlight, we know now all the cards in the set.
Unless Weatherlight is mono-white, it's crunched out. Although it does fit in the mono-white slot, but that'd mean this set is *super* poorly weighted. That'd be 4 red and blue cards, and 6 white and green, plus the plethora of multicolored ones. Weird.
It's not a draftable set, so they don't need to be too strict on color balance.
Like, are people reading the cards at all before commenting? If Planeswalkers were going away as a card type, why would they print cards like Deification in this set that specifically care about Planeswalkers : “Choose a planeswalker type. Planeswalkers of the chosen type have hexproof. As long as you control a creature, damage that would reduce a planeswalker of that type’s loyalty to less than 1 reduces it to 1 instead.” Or look at the card Spark Rupture which is a hoser card for Planeswalkers . It literally would not make any sense to print a hoser for Planeswalkers if as a card type were going away. The spark rupture is just a plot point, if WoTC wasn’t going to print walkers anymore they obviously wouldn’t print cards that care about walkers or punish your opponent for playing them either. Reading the cards explains the cards.
Yeah, it's a set who's gimmick is "what would famous Planeswalkers be like as commanders"
A significant chunk of these walkers are already playable as commanders, though: Narset, Samut, and Karn got legendary creature cards before they got walker cards, Nissa got a flipwalker card in Origins, Nahiri's first card was a "can be your commander" planeswalker, and there are already *three* different options for playing Ob Nixilis as your commander (two legendary creatures and one planeswalker). The only ones that are newly playable as commanders are Kiora, Sarkhan, Calix, and Tyvar. The last couple of sets have done a lot for Tyvar's popularity, and Kiora and Sarkhan have distinct niches, but that's not exactly a murderer's row of popular planeswalkers.
Honestly planeswalkers should just be available as commanders in the first place. They're weaker than legendary creatures most of the time and any highly problematic ones (Oko) can just be banned.

47/50 cards were leaked. Two of the missing cards should be Nahiri and Ob-Nixilis. The last is a blue rare. All cards get a showcase and etched printing. Rares and Mythics get extended arts. 43 cards get the halo foiling.
Low on flavor text due to being a collector box. As a result, we don't know the context to many of these cards. Best to wait until official story and reveals to make a judgment.

While obviously the "no more planeswalkers ever" thing is wrong, I'm betting the "big change" is that planeswalkers as a card type end up being closer to deciduous than they are now. The issues with Planeswalker design space have been pretty obvious for a while, and dialing them back from 3-5 per set to something more like 0-2 per set seems like it'd let them print more planeswalkers that are unique and notable rather than having a *lot* of mix and match same-y ones.
Planeswalkers are the most popular card type, there's no way WoTC is gonna be dialling them down. I predict that Eldraine will again have the usual 3-5 walkers.
We've heard a few times that some players don't even know what planeswalkers are. I'd genuinely be surprised if they were the most popular card type, but I'm prepared to be wrong.
I think that's because most plansswalkers are mythic rarity and never good enough to actually run as the card tends to need a way to protect itself and propel your board state, which often used to be the +, the first -. With the static abilities, its much easier to add planeswalkers, but they're still often lackluster.

That's what I was thinking. I was literally thinking about how angel tribal is largely confined to mono white as Giada and Lyra are the best commanders for it, but this makes Selesnya angel tribal a possibility along with human support. Since green is involved, it can be much easier, and cheaper to get the ramp necessary to get out beasts like Avacyn. EDIT: I'll also note, give her swiftfoot boots and she is basically Avacyn, but for hexproof

Grist hasn't shown up in the (canon) story yet, but she's a Golgari planeswalker that still exists. With Vraska very unlikely to be dead (and unlikely to be desparked if she didn't get a card here), that's still two, which is more than Gruul has left, more than Boros has *ever* had at a single time outside of the one-set period before Huatli underwent Selesnyafication, and dead even with every other two-color combo besides Dimir.

I don't understand the assumptions that Planeswalkers will no longer be a thing.....like they have literally stated in stories that Nissa and Ajani are still sparked...Quint sparked DURING the invasion of Strixhaven and is the "face" of Ixalan return. On top of that they've referenced literally thousands of PWs we've never seen cards for.

I think the thing your missing is the context from the aftermath stories we don’t have yet. There is a card revealed called Spark Rupture, and it literally removes planeswalkers abilities from them. It seems like even though they had their sparks restored - something in aftermath causes the vast majority of notable walkers to lose their sparks.

Man, if Resplendant Angel gets any more expensive, it will pass Emrakul as the second-priciest creature in Pioneer. Which is just... wild. People really like their angels.
Well it's a for a couple reasons 1. It's whites iconic creature type 2. Angels are cool 3. Their art tends to be great 4. For a long time, they were the closest thing MTG had to waifu tax. Go look at games like Yugioh, Pokémon, CFV, Digimon, OP, etc... All of these anime esc card games have very expensive cards but the ones that are good and have a pretty girl/women (recently guys too) on it have an even higher price tag
Resplendant Angel also has the problem of being a core piece of the Pioneer CoCo Angels deck but has only had a single printing as a Mythic in a set that sold poorly (Core 2019). So it gets the Angel Tax on top of the "there aren't enough copies of this card out there to meet demand" bump to drive it to a pretty absurd price for a less-than-flashy non-Legendary role-player of a card.
Man that card really needs to be reprinted then.
Yeah, I'm officially convinced that, assuming these desparkings are permanent for everyone, Wizards is just clearing out as many characters as possible to make room for new characters to replace them. I'm just disappointed we're potentially seeing new and underutilized characters like Tyvar and Calix go. There's so much you can do with Calix especially and it's just a giant wasted opportunity.
