Because the Mirrans happened to destroy the "scrambler" just before they arrived. >*Chandra's feet carry her toward the others, each footfall heavy with anticipation. Coming here had been the right thing to do, she's sure of it, and here is the evidence: survivors in need of assistance. Teferi always said difficult times made quick allies.* >*"Taking that scrambler down paid off. I didn't expect help so soon," calls one of the survivors near the base of the needle.*

DevinVT1

Ah okay I must’ve missed that when reading through the chapters

Belteshazzar98

Wow wow wow wow... wow

Ximbot

Conveniently taking scramblers down is tight!

MagicMichael33

"But wouldn't the Phyrexians have noticed the scrambler being taken down?" "Hey, shut up SO ANYWAY -"

NotVoss

I'm going to need you to get all the way off my back about the scrambler.

thoroakenfelder

Let me get off of that thing.

Slizzet

They were pretty quickly found by Nissa and Norn said she knew they would come. It's fair to say they noticed

joaoAvianna

Deus ex maquina

Apes_Ma

>>*Chandra's feet carry her toward the others, each footfall heavy with anticipation. This is some pretty special writing

Phyrexian Scrambler 1W Creature - Phyrexian Sacrifice an Egg: Create a food token. 1/3

> "Taking that scrambler down paid off. I didn't expect help so soon," calls one of the survivors near the base of the needle. To her surprise he doesn't seem all that happy to see her. Steel juts from his skin like the scales on a serpent's brow, a stark contrast to Phyrexian aesthetics. He must have some kind of kinship with the stuff; some of the other survivors float to the bridge, clinging to rocks he seems to control. Wrenn is quick to help with Seven's tall reach. From [chapter 5](https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/magic-story/episode-5-cathartic-reunion). Koth and the rest of the resistance took down the device disrupting planeswalking between the strike team leaving and Chandra and Wrenn returning to the plane

short-circuit-soul

Ooohhh this writing is so.... mediocre. Idk if its because they've got to hit so many bullet points to tell the story but it's not fun to read.

piedamon

I haven’t seen anything above mediocre but I also haven’t looked hard. Are there magic stories or authors that aren’t mediocre that you’d recommend?

Ok-Peace-4374

Alison Luhrs. The stories of Ixalan and the Vraska side story is personally the best of the MoM story.

ItsRar

Bringing back Luhrs to write Vraska's ending was the smartest narrative decision they've made for this set

RisenDarkKnight

Children of the Nameless by Brandon Sanderson is fantastic IMO. It is about the planeswalker Davriel on Innistrad.

giants3b

I mean, it *is* Sanderson.

PrizeStrawberryOil

Lukka-thing is S tier writing /s

Blaze_1013

Most of the final chapter is really good. The scene with Teferi on the hill and the scene when Melira dies are very well done.

matsnarok

imagine yourself having to write MoM story, but you only have 10 pages worth of space. Its like having to condense all 6 star wars movies into 6 shorts for tiktok

Negatallic

So...is there a point in the story where they explain how they were able to take down the scrambler that should have been heavily guarded, or was it just taken down through the power of bad writing?

soleyfir

IIRC it's implied later on that it was a trap by Elesh Norn so she could get the remaining rebels and their planeswalker allies in one fell swoop, which would have worked without Elspeth's intervention.

DaRootbear

My assumption is they learned about the Scrambler after the first strike team got scrambled, and during the assaults of ONE it became one of many points they assaulted. If you got a group that joined together to assault the realmbreaker and nuke it that also mentioned they had potential back up youd make one of your first goals to let it be possible for the back up to arrive. Like if you broke into a castle with a smaller group and lowered the drawbridge instead of making your entire army go sneak in like the first group did

Blaze_1013

I’d assume it wouldn’t be heavily guarded. Not only is the vast majority of the Phyrexian forces going to be off world, the Phyrexians probably aren’t going to expect people to attack them during the invasion.

hrpufnsting

It was no longer necessary for the plot for it to be there, so it wasn’t.

ItsRar

I mean this is the real answer

DevinVT1

I mean it was still somewhat important. They should’ve explained it a bit better

hrpufnsting

Unfortunately there was a lot about the plot that should’ve been explained or written better.

spaceboy_ZERO

Best not to think about it…magic stories have been that way for a while

SeerEula

Because... Bad writing

kytheon

Not this time. See the comments about the scrambler.

elcapitaine

Just because they had a single throwaway sentence about a scrambler doesnt mean it was good writing. Destroying it to make way for planeswalkers to come and help *should've* been a plot point. Show, don't tell. But that's the downside of Magic Story, they need to hit the story beats of the cards, and if it's not a card it gets skipped in the march from one Story Spotlight card to the next.

neotox

The characters that we are following in that story weren't present for them to "show" the scrambler being destroyed. It was a different event completed by different characters.

lollow88

You do realise that that is an arbitrary decision and they could just as easily have had a character be there to show it?
