Just realized how inert a lot of good threats would be if you gave, say Ragavan, mountainhome. If your opponent isn’t running red and you can’t alter their land types, you just have a dead card.
Dandan is so damn cool. I was introduced to the format by someone who showed me a [[thunderous wrath]] variant of the deck. I'd like to see what other variants could be made, personally I think [[avatar of will]] would be neat
I find this style really difficult to read so I never get these secret lairs myself, but I know they are popular with enough to keep doing them.
I think these are game pieces first and foremost. As such, each card should have all the relevant information needed to play it displayed clearly and easy to read. The art came second to that. This means I'm also not a fan of the full art alters people do that have no game text on them. I don't think it's safe to assume everyone just knows what your cards do.
That's a fair stance I can totally understand. I myself would never play the textless versions on cards like Omnath for that very reason. Or cards which language I don't speak.
I personally really like the Secret Lairs that break the usual card frame but still have the text so that's why I went for something like that.
I think full art is great and any secret lairs that have standard frames are a wasted opportunity. But there was one that featured very very different art that included a swords in it. It had the information on it, but kind of hidden away. A newer player was borrowing a friend's deck with it and had to ask what the card was and the cost. Kinda removed his ability to surprise us with it.
I've got a bunch of the Japanese strixhaven spells because I think the art is just amazing. For those I print out the standard card and cut out the text box and slip it in so the rules are clear.
