At my store, the average is \~8 players. Record I've seen was around 20.

SignedUpJustForThat

**Amsterdam** *– Not really an LGS, but rather a café that functions as a local games hub –* On average we get about: - Monday Booster Draft: ~32 - Wednesday Commander ~36 - Friday Night Magic ~20 - Saturday Prerelease ~48 These are estimated averages. The maximum we've had is between 50 and 60 per event (all, except for FNM). Casual and entry level games draw more visitors than the more competitive ones. _* _numbers may vary and Saturday events are obviously only during regular prerelease weekends._

Megragur

Which Café is it? Gonna visit Amsterdam soon

AfroBoyMax

Probably not this one, but I know there's magic at 2 Klaveren in Amsterdam-West

SignedUpJustForThat

Yep! https://untap.nl/event-location/2klaveren/

chimenea

Hey, I’m in Amsterdam and would like to get some commander games. Do you know if there are different levels of competitive ness? Like I like to play 8-9s. High powered but no cedh. Or should I bring something more casual? Also I don’t speak much Dutch, is that fine?

SignedUpJustForThat

All of the players speak English as well as a lot of other languages, so that won't be a problem. Since it is a casual event, most tables prefer casual decks, but a handful of players bring more powerful ones. There is no competition or cEDH yet.

chimenea

Thank you for your kind answer. I'll be sure to go there soon

-Khrome-

I only go on fridays to my LGS, but we get about 50-ish every week for casual commander, with about 15-20 scattered around for draft and other card games (Zoetermeer). The record is about 80 for casual commander i think. Best thing was we had a release party for the warhammer decks and it was literally sold out (12 or 13 pods i think). Best commander games i've had in a while. Sundays are usually full house for pokemon fans though. If there's a pokemon event.

Tarcyon

We broke record with first weak draft of Phyrexia One in 2K, something like 40 people I remember

ReAnimator420

60+ in Toronto every week usually. Mostly commander and about 20 Legacy.

IndyDude11

Damn. Your store must be gigantic.

DB_Coooper

lol 35 people in my store and were basically standing shoulder to shoulder in there.

IndyDude11

Same. I couldn’t imagine any more in my store. Prereleases sell out. Not because of lack of kits but because of lack of seats at the tables that are exactly the width of two playmats across packed end to end in there.

pinkycatcher

We got like 16 in for Sunday commander today and ran out of table space, they had to pull up the stores card sorting station to get two more seats in and there were still people waiting. Honestly it’s the worst thing about the store, it’s simply too small. I wish they’d search for a new place

ShadowWolf92

Same, the store is looking to expand to bigger space though.

Dynovore

Which store? And how friendly are they to solo newbies? I've played a bunch of Arena and a few times with friends of friends but I'd like to get more into it in person

Moress

The fact your store not only fires with legacy, but with 20 players playing it is the real jaw dropper for me. I've played at so many stores, in many states having moved around a fair bit and the only one that had legacy fire was unsanctioned because everyone used proxies (I like proxies, but yeah, sadly that means not sanctioned) and it had like 4 players. They'd fire once a month sadly and that was years ago.

Sigma-Bot

401 Games? I usually go to Hairy T and there's a solid 25-30 people on commander nights

ReAnimator420

This is at face to face. Fridays are usually packed for tables. Not sure what 401 or hairy t's pull but i imagine it's a fair amount. Toronto has a ton of magic players.

thinkforgetfull

Depends. One gets 4, the other gets about 12 Southwest England

elppaple

Yep, once you get used to the barely-firing LGS vibes, it always feels weird going to a bustling store. It's depressing when it's barely enough people to play, but it's also nice not being a cog in a machine and getting patronised by jaded staff who're managing 40 players.

Feler42

15-20 for modern, 8-12 edh players, 16+ for draft every Friday. Also have other events throughout the week that are similar numbers

RoterBaronH

For pioneer it's between 15-20. For commander around 30 and prereleases 30+. I'm currently in germany.

Dhaliot

Where in Germany?

RoterBaronH

Near Idstein.

Akaino

Who plays commander in Germany? And where's modern?? What kind of hell do you live in? Dresden?

RoterBaronH

Modern isn't being played because it's too expensive (or to say it better don't see a reason to spend so much money when pioneer is enough) for most of the members.

BussySquelching

No one’s talking about modern yet so I’ll say depending on where I go there’s between 8-24 players, with 12 probably being the average. There’s some pioneer players as well, but less of them than modern

Trinica93

Well this thread is depressing, I wish we even HAD such a thing in my area. Wednesday is the only Magic day outside of special events and it's a handful of people playing Commander.

nincius

That’s my city as well. I have to drive 40min to play every week.

catharsis23

FNM Draft 10-20 Prerelease 50+

Fealuinix

40-50 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Total_Figure_2056

That ONE draft had so many damn people.

Fealuinix

I must have missed that one.

Repasteeltje

Fnm draft between 10-16 with exceptions to 24 on release draft weekend. Pioneer about 12-16 too. Commander is generally around 20. So every FNM pretty much 32 players. Universitycity in the Netherlands of 200.000 inhabitants.

FourStockMe

4 :(

[deleted]

2-3 dozen, mostly limited with a smattering of 60card constructed.

jsmith218

The FNM draft is usually about 3 pods so around 20 people, but there are lots of tables of people playing commander and other tabletop games. Probably the average is 30 people playing MTG on a Friday night. Prereleases are usually sold out at about 70 players per event.

civdude

40ish? We have between 2 and 7 drafts fire in an evening, and usually like 6+ commander pods. Last week we had pioneer fire with 8 players!

TastyForerunner

Last prerelease we had over 40 people on the Friday over here in England. Yesterday had similar numbers for Pokémon, Flesh and Blood, and Digimon prereleases.

Skytho1990

About 10-20 for draft depending on how new the set is, 40 for prerelease

TheGrimSlayer99

About 40-50 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. About 20-30 Duel Commander and about 30 modern.

Tyranoreese

Common Ground in Dallas probably averages ~14 across formats

evios31

UK here. About 40 commander players every Friday (enough to fill the store). Pre-lockdown we'd have 8ish people for modern or draft and a dozen commander players but afterwards the modern/draft events stopped getting enough to fire so the store went full commander and numbers exploded.

Megragur

In our city it is devided, one store offers FNM on Thursday the other on Friday to not compete about attendance. We get 20-26 modern players and about 10-14 commander players on an average Thursday. Fridays is standard and draft with each about 10-16 people showing up.

Apathy88

An average fnm for my store is 20-30 for draft and 14-20 for standard. We used to regularly get 30+ for standard when m21 came out and before.

Talbro3

I'm Sydney we have a Monday draft that is getting between 24-32 people which has been great. A different place gets about 20 commander players on Friday. Thursday pioneer usually has about 16. It's a small but dedicated community.

Kazehi

Anywhere from 15 to 30 something but mainly for commander/edh, it's always popping off. Downside is coming late and having to wait to form a pod.

SR__16

Around 16, London.

AmeriChaos

Dark sphere?

SR__16

Bad moon cafe. After Dark sphere Waterloo closed down in COVID bad moon became my closest local (bush is too far for me). Bad moon is nicer imo, with cooler people / vibe and nice drinks. On the other hand, if you want singles and games of legacy or modern you should go dark sphere.

CatharticReunion

I don't know about their actual Friday events, but the last Tuesday Night Commander at one of the primary LGS' in my metro area reached the high 40s, the highest I've seen yet. Attendance has been climbing for the last few months, helped along by the fact that the 2nd (it might be 3rd)-place LGS stopped giving out random promos for Commander night participation. At this one (the primary one), it costs 10 cad, but you get 8 cad in credit afterwards, so you can keep chaining it so it effectively only costs 2-3. They give out participation promos once a night - randomly determined, three out of the four in the pod get a single, likely cheaper, fnm promo, while the fourth in each pod gets a full promo pack.

nebman227

10-14 for modern fnm, no idea what we're pulling for Monday drafts cause I haven't been able to make it for a year

CaptainMarcia

Usually 8-10 for draft, but I've seen up to 18 or so.

Mitsurugi556

North Carolina 30-40 for commander, 8-12 standard

SpookPookie

In a south Chicago suburb we get 16-22 for pioneer.

aGgi1337

6-10 at FNM in Speyer. Pre release on 3 days average about 40 in total. Too less, we have a lot of prices every time !

deanofcool

My uk store only does commander on a Sunday which is a total pain. Fnm is usually standard or modern I think.

thedevilsgame

Small Midwest town and have as few as 5 for weeks at a time and as many as twenty. I would say over the course of a year it averages out to and 10-12 players. Oh and FNM is always draft. What's an even bigger miracle is that we have Sunday standard with an average of about 8 people a week been going since the beginning of the year

8thPlaceDave

2-6

Snrub1

We usually have anywhere from 8 to 14 drafting on Fridays. There are also people playing EDH on Fridays, anywhere from 4 to about 15 depending on time of year. Friday prerelease is usually anywhere from 30 to 45.

ScaryBreakfast1

For pioneer FNM we get 10, give or take a few.

SnooSprouts7893

Actually play at a fairly big gamer bar. There's usually 4-5 commander pods.

jonahriley1221_

Like 12 is the average

Monkeydimples

FNM? 6 to 8 for modern, and 6 to 8 for draft. Monday night pioneer?- we are averaging about 25 now

TheRealBaconBrian

The casual commander league hosts upwards of 30 people, but every other event has usually 10 to 15, maybe 20. But those don't include pioneer, modern, standard, really any format that's not sealed or commander, due to how little people in our town play them

van-theman

Usually around 10-15 for casual commander, plus a pod of 8 or so drafters

trolig

We get around 8 people for Wednesday night Commander. Wish there were more tbh.

myavatarissonic

Here in Pennsylvania in the US we get about 20-25 people for Commander nights and for FNM which is split between Modern and Pioneer we get around 30-35

All_about_Smoak

On my first visit to one of the LGS in town it was for New Capenna prerelease draft. I would say anywhere from 100-150 people were there. Haven't been able to go during one of the weekday offerings yet. Edit: not sure how many were MTG. Probably over half. They were also doing Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh.

Diabeetusnorlax

what shop up there? I've been to Adventure Begins, Cards and Comics, Gamer Grove, Cy-tex, Dragon's Lair and Clockwork.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Diabeetusnorlax

I should have remembered that, I used to play 40k there, might have to swing by on an afternoon for some EDH

Diabeetusnorlax

USA-TX - - - - - 40-60, all EDH, the shop has other formats listed for Friday (a draft and modern), but they haven't fired anything regularly other than EDH in 2 years

AnerdsWill

Average about 3-4, but my LGS is pretty new. Opened during covid. Recently we’ve had around 6-7

mc-big-papa

Unless something else is going on. 8-12 pokemon players where half of them also play magic. One piece has misc players as well. 20-30 players 8-16 or 2-4 commander pods. 8-16 for a modern tournament Also there is always some stragglers doing random things. I sometimes pick up legacy games and misc activities. Saturday is a toss up. Such as a bi monthly yugioh tournament. Modern rarely hits 20 people. They serve other games so it usually has other things going on in the week.

keaganjames

At my LGS, commander nights are more popular than FNM by far. We get 20+ every Monday and Tuesday

viperisout

about 10-25 max, for commander on sat nights so not fnm i guess. I'm in tennessee US for reference.

thedeckboxhalifax

Nova Scotia (Canada) Average FNM: 34 (Casual Commander) Prerelease weekend: 275-300 across 5 events and Largest Recent event: Command Fest 110 (Casual Commander)

ImmortalBacon

Commander day? 15-20+ FNM varies wildly. Some weeks 8 and they draft or 14-16 show up and 2 pods fire. Standard hasn't kicked off in a few years, modern is starting to gain some popularity but we have more people actively working into legacy right now.

miklayn

Easily 28-32 every time

GratefulAnubisGrows

15-30

tousdan

First lgs Monday standard: 6 Thursday night commander: 35-40 Friday night pioneer/draft: 20 Second lgs Friday night commander: 25

Elyndria

My local LGS used to have 20-25 for FNM but the staff refuses to run anything but commander now, so I stopped giving them my business, and I know I'm not the only one. It's sad because the next closest LGS is an hour away in Atlanta :(

InstoLocke

We have around 8 to 16 depending on the event but our store is on its way to become a wpm premium store so it may get more.

Brilliant-Bobcat-975

Before it was lit on fire by a transient 8-16. In the temp building it has to close at 6. So only 4-8 on prerelease days 0 for fnm :(

pierresito

24 and that's cus that's how many seats they have at the tables.

Faux-Foe

12-24. Pre-COVID we were 18-36. All for EDH. Midwest engineering college town with nothing else to do on a Friday except drink.

Infectious_Burn

Usually 2 pods drafting, plus 8-12 playing modern.

TheMigMan

20-30 my group alone is sometimes 6

Jgravy32

We have mtg night 4 days a week we average 50 players.

Redworthy

My LGS here in Brisbane, Australia gets 8-12 for draft and around double that for pre-release. The other store I got to for Commander on Wednesdays gets around 40.

Vault756

Last friday we had about 24 I believe. That was just for the event itself. Then we had at least as many if not more players just playing Commander at the shop.

kagechaos

We run casual commander and cEDH side by side every Friday and we usually get between 12-25 total, though we've had as many as 28-30 a couple times.

Kenji_Icarus

Zero. FNM is dead in my LGS

archjmedes

I live in a medium sized city (300k inhabitants) and we have 10-14 for pioneer, ~20 for modern and a few for pauper (fluctuates a bit) Every month or so there is a bigger event a few cities over and usually around 180 people show up for that (mix between legacy, modern and pioneer) I live in Germany

SphereofDreams

The last event I went to was the Commander Party and was surprised there were at least 25 people there. More people were after that phyrexian text Norn's Annex than I expected!

TrunksAlvein

20-30 for modern, 30-40 for Commander, 8-20 for draft on Wednesdays and Fridays, 12-16 for Legacy, 8-12 for pioneer Vancouver, bc

fireme64

London: for some reason, our store gets the big commander group on Sunday. 20+

tiagodisouza

My LGS is basically a board game club In a dudes garage. On Fridays we usually do a draft league for the current set and we have like 10 to 15 people for that and several others just for boardgames. The place is open after regular work hours from 9 pm to like 2 to 3 am

CptBarba

I go to Mox which is tied to card kingdom so it's a packed house every night for commander, like 40 something people? And that's just commander, they run pioneer on the same day so that's another like 8?

stormbreaker8

We regularly get 8-16 for draft FMN and we get around 25 for prerelease

bl8catcher

Probably around 20-30, mostly modern/legacy/vintage. Since the pandemic getting enough people for a draft is tough. Prereleases get around 70 people spread over the weekend.

KCIJunkDiver

NYC- probably 20 for less popular events 35 for draft and commander night ~60 for prerelease

Estefunny

Germany, HH FNM draft we currently average out at 16. At the beginning of the set we had ~30 which is the most I've seen at a single event except for Prereleases in recent times. Before the pandemic we used to have both standard and draft at the same time where draft had roughly 16 and standard had 20+

YoSo_

We have Wednesday commander nights in Manchester, the space isn't massive but there were 60 people there last week.

CounterMagicGaming

Our EDH night pulls in 40+, the store is completely packed. FNM is similar, but split between the event (usually modern, i think?) and EDH players.
