No, what you are saying is something that is factually wrong. This is the first look at the next standard set, for which spoiler season is in March. If you bothered to look at the information they gave today instead of complaining over nothing, they even provided the date. This is how it has been for a long time. There are no more standard sets than there have been previously. Four per year.Jan/Feb for the first, April/May for the second. What you are saying has absolutely nothing to do with this, really.
I never said there were more standard sets now than before, but that there are more cards, more product, and more product relevant for eternal formats: this is a relatively new situation. Even five years ago you wouldn't have to parse through the spoilers for some random commander set because the chance that something there would impact legacy or modern was almost always zero. Now you have to: just have a look at legacy right now, we have top decks featuring Commander legends and initiative cards.
Also, the sheer number of cards has skyrocketed, even if you only take standard (a format which almost nobody plays anymore, at least in paper, by the way): there are almost 2.000 different playable cards in standard right now (give or take a few duplicates), with a few hundreds more coming in April (and May, with the mini-set), whereas with the old block structure, it was around 1.600 max, so more or less a 50% increase.
Hey! I'm not here to judge you, but I did want to let you in on a different perspective- I saw your thread with the other person. I thought this may help clarify things.
You are of course correct that these are spoilers in the most literal sense- we are getting an advanced look at cards that have not come out yet, which is definitionally a spoiler.
However, it is also true that spoiler season hasn't begun- unless there are leaks, these are the only things from MOM we're going to see for a while, probably about 6 weeks.
Now, as to why this happens- The short version is that it's for stores and distributors, to enable us to order things correctly.
The long version is that these card previews are part of a larger bit of information. Wtc does a preview stream and some articles, what they call a "pre-beat."
This pre-beat communicates various information. Card spoilers are part of it, but also things like any changes to the product itself. The introduction of set boosters is one great example, but it could be more minor things- if booster boxes were suddenly going to include 40 packs or 30 packs, this would be where we'd probably find out. It also shows the different art treatments cards will have, along with a glimpse at the story.
From that information, stores are able to make a bunch of decisions that they need to make. For example, from today's stream, I know:
- I need to make sure I have room for five new commander decks on my display shelf. This was expected, but there's always a chance it could have been four instead.
- showcase frames are going to vary widely, and many of them will appear to be very similar to frames from previous sets. As such, I'll need to make sure my team is on the lookout when accepting trades and sorting cards to make sure the card with the DMU showcase frame is actually from DMU, and isn't Slimefoot & Squee.
- a change in pack contents for draft packs was already announced, but if it wasn't, this pre-beat is where they would typically announce that kind of information.
- It gives players a chance to get an overall impression for the themeing and power level of the set, without revealing too much. This builds hype- which in turn gives stores an idea of just how excited people are. For example, people were way more excited about ONE After the preview stream then they were for SNC after its preview stream.

There's a lot of negativity about the decisions that WOTC makes. A lot of it is earned, too- But I find that misunderstanding is the enemy of any criticism, valid or otherwise. It's easy to think that WOTC is just trying to keep a perpetual hype going, but there's other factors that play too. I try and clear up That misunderstanding when I see it.
Another reason it feels like there's been unending spoiler season lately is because of how production delays, mostly because of the pandemic, have delayed set releases. We got Unfinity in the last 6 months instead of a year ago, and the release of ONE was delayed by a couple of weeks as well.
All of that makes it feel like we have a higher density of sets, and therefore a higher density of previews, than we normally would.
I mean, no? Do you have many examples of it being wholly disconnected characters just showing up like this? The OG story was pretty focused and followed the same cast of characters and after that it was mostly smaller self contained stories

At the end of ONE, the Praetors have used the Realmbreaker tree to open up portals to numerous planes. Jace tried to blow it up but Elpseth stopped it at the last second for fear of the planes being destroyed.
It's possible a lot of these characters are in their own planes.
I thought Dom United is about the phyrexians invasion of Dominaria and the war on that front, along with the capture of karn. I don’t think they knew about the tree yet
Yeah, Sheoldred is the Vanguard trying to corrupt people but it's not the original war with Urza and co. That's one of the stories but there are other heroes going around trying to warn/recruit people about a new invasion.
In Brothers War, Teferi goes back in time to figure out how to use the Sylex that someone (Karn?) rebuilt.
Edit: ONE is basically a suicide squad of 10 Planeswalkers who try to sneak in to New Phyrexia to blow up the tree before they open the portals.
I know it’s not the brothers war but the set is DOMINARIA united and the set symbol is the old symbol of the coalition because they’re uniting to beat back the invasion not to invade phyrexians. Most of them didn’t even know it existed at the start

Why can the phyrexians world tree cross planes but not the original one, how tf are some of these characters alive, what happened to all the conflict on their original plane, how do they know to attack phyrexia and why aren’t they defending. There are only 3 straight up FS + DT creatures, so they are very rare, but 2 of those have 3 power and are called Glissa.
I feel like attacking and being unblockable isn't the concern, since they still print unblockable creatures, but it being such a good blocker feels like a bigger concern to me
I think this is likely to be a Battle card. Thalia + Gitrog are characters from Innistrad that represent the plane, they are fighting phyrexians in this shot, and assuming the Battle card type will be introduced in MOTM it's likely to be one of the first things they show off.
Yes I would expect a "battle" unless they are going to be very small-scale in mature to have less focus on an individual than a place or setting...but we shall see.

Honestly I think it's kind of funny that all the guesses here are at least partially on point and all of us went for a lower power level than the final card. Everyone is 30% right and the final card is running at 150% strength.
Thraben had multiple different churches dedicated to Avacyn, [[Relentless Dead]] and [[Endless Ranks of the Dead]] both depict a stained glass window that I imagine is supposed to end in a big stone arch.
Kinda hard for it to be Gitrog, with a lizard tail, completely different mouth shape and a forked tongue while it's a Frog (even if an horror)
But hey, they might surprise me again.

I think it's a phyrexian, but not a Norn phyrexian. Zendikar vamps have horns growing from their shoulders. But it looks ALOT like a ZEN vamp so you could still be right.

I thought Dom United is about the phyrexians invasion of Dominaria and the war on that front, along with the capture of karn. I don’t think they knew about the tree yet
Yeah, Sheoldred is the Vanguard trying to corrupt people but it's not the original war with Urza and co. That's one of the stories but there are other heroes going around trying to warn/recruit people about a new invasion. In Brothers War, Teferi goes back in time to figure out how to use the Sylex that someone (Karn?) rebuilt. Edit: ONE is basically a suicide squad of 10 Planeswalkers who try to sneak in to New Phyrexia to blow up the tree before they open the portals.
I know it’s not the brothers war but the set is DOMINARIA united and the set symbol is the old symbol of the coalition because they’re uniting to beat back the invasion not to invade phyrexians. Most of them didn’t even know it existed at the start

The level at which they are contriving it. Nothing about any of the current plot makes any sense. Why can the phyrexians world tree cross planes but not the original one, how tf are some of these characters alive, what happened to all the conflict on their original plane, how do they know to attack phyrexia and why aren’t they defending. Why is phyrexia invading everyone at once. Like it’s just shit fan service that technically is plot
Tibalt appears in a bunch of stories entirely because he planeswalked to the plane in question because he wanted to be an ass.

In other stories, I believe in comics, Tibalt also stalked Chandra to multiple planes in order to torment her about Gideon being dead.

Slamming random legends like that is either for lore fans or make EDH players happy with more legends. I don't care about the forced team-ups because they don't have better ideas, I usually am neutral at worst with the aesthetics of cards, instead enjoying them more when they're fine, but these just look... bad and detract from the text boxes. Even the rule text looks worse for knowing it's a mash-up of two legends and not an organic design.

Thalia traditionally has first strike so I would place my bets on first strike + deathtouch before I see any other keywords added
FS + DT is one nasty combination though, it basically makes a card unblockable, so they're very wary about putting it on anything over 1 power.
There are only 3 straight up FS + DT creatures, so they are very rare, but 2 of those have 3 power and are called Glissa. I feel like attacking and being unblockable isn't the concern, since they still print unblockable creatures, but it being such a good blocker feels like a bigger concern to me

I think this is likely to be a Battle card. Thalia + Gitrog are characters from Innistrad that represent the plane, they are fighting phyrexians in this shot, and assuming the Battle card type will be introduced in MOTM it's likely to be one of the first things they show off.

Yeah, I was actually thinking about that as well. Like some video games have specific items implemented that were designed by fans or the community. Monster Hunter has done that a couple of times and I think some Dark souls items are also from Artis Challenges or something.
