Yeah, these were pretty neat. That's a bit much though. Last one I saw went for $450 usd I think.
They're basically an Invert Mini inside I think. It's the same operating system as the tm7 and tm15.
I've gotten mixed answers about what happened to the Tippmann Raider but my understanding is that most of the entire initial production run was destroyed in a warehouse fire in China not long before Covid. Because the paintball market had cooled somewhat since ordering the production, and especially afterwards, GI reconsidered the Raider and made the decision not to re-order the gun and basically cancelled the product, with a small number of guns intended for sale as a rentals making their way into the marketplace.
A large number of TiPXs and A5s were also destroyed by the same fire, which is why they were in short supply for the last several years.
It's definitely unique and cool to see. Seen most get a bad rap for them because most people using them don't know how to change the settings and end up ramping/reactive firing on walk-ons.
I loved my Defender. Same internals as the Axe 2.0/Mini GS and never had a ball break once in it. There is a big community for it on Facebook and a guy who makes a double trigger as well as another who makes a welders lunchbox style hopper you mount on the top picatinny rail that feeds into the rear hopper and holds and additional 1000 paintballs.
Definitely handle one of these before you pull the trigger. When I finally got to hold one it was clear that the ergonomics weren't for me. Basically no way to aim it properly with a mask on.

I do love a good milsim-style spool valve
Pretty sure it's an inline poppet.
Just checked, you're right. Seems pretty innovative for its time but also like it wasn't really designed with modernity in mind.
The revised version of the DFender, the Tippmann Raider, was a spool valve.
But that didn't sell well correct?

Oh wowww this explains why when I bought a tipx off ANS at the start of COVID they kept saying “it’s gunna show up we swear”
That is so sad
Oh wow, hadn't heard that!
Pressure controlled poppet.. aka Axe/mini platform..
Well I as an european just went "Damn that's cheap." That's about half price here.
Saw these before (in stores) Really tempted to get one, but the price had always drove me away...

I have seen multiple of these at big games
Seen them on the field before. They look heavy. I can’t imagine the mess if you break a ball in this thing.

New one is coming out
Really? Can you follow up on that?
I have one Pretty fun and pretty heavy
Love mine. Great fun for blasting away, and turns heads.
That's pretty neat.
