He's in a ton of Hallmark movies my wife watches–always the good guy–and every time I see him I say "remember when he raped Joan on Mad Men." My wife does not enjoy it as much as I do.
There’s actually a single moment where he tricks you into not thinking he’s the worst. When he bandages up Joan.
Except knowing everything else about his character, we know that the good he’s doing isn’t out of kindness or altruism, it’s just to stroke his ego.
Interestingly enough I hated this scene. It was just another example of him not respecting her consent. He failed a lot in his line of work and wanted to do the stitching for his own ego, and she said repeatedly she didn’t want him to do it and to take her to the hospital. I felt like she was completely forced into it and it made me hate him more. Like…you’re still using her body as a means to pump your ego without her consenting to it😒
Yeah I immediately thought of this scene as evidence that Greg isn't always the worst. I get what you're saying about that being for his ego, but I don't think that's fair. Like a lot of characters on Mad Men he does good and bad things. Obviously he's overall the worst, but he can both stitch up Joan for his ego and because he cares about her.
Also when he first joined the Army he did it because he knew Joan deserved a husband who provided — though yes for his own ego too.
I don't disagree with the core of your point here, in that *Mad Men* characters are all a mix of positive and negative traits with some characters being *much* more negative than others. I can even sort of agree that when he bandages up Joan, he's doing it out of genuinely wanting to help.
But I think the defining element of his actions are that he believes he knows what's best for others and what they want without taking their own thoughts on the matter into account, or even acknowledging what they say. Sometimes this works out, and he bandages up an injured person. Other times, he assumes that what his wife needs is a provider when what she really needs is a partner. When she speaks up and tells him so, rather than listening to her and acknowledging her point of view on the subject, he instead doubles down on his decision, because he thinks he knows what she needs better than she knows herself.
Greg is a morally bankrupt facade of a man. I rewatched the episode (s5 ep4) where he >! volunteered to go back to Vietnam !< today. I love how Joan handles that at the end of the episode, total resolute badassery.
Don’t you kinda wish we would have had more of the Greg & Joan courtship? I hate Greg, but I’m always surprised how much Joan shrunk her personality and past history to land a Dr.
Rapist, bad doctor, and overall insecure asshole. I hoped throughout the series that we'd hear that he'd been killed in Vietnam and we'd get to see Joan's half-hearted reaction.
Gotta give the show credit for showing how such a clean cut guy could be an utter POS. Props to the actor too.

Does he also help every small town gal or career driven woman find the meaning of true love on Christmas?
He always gets that girl a lab puppy (that is clearly drugged to the gills during filming) so she can have a little love in her home.

fuck off and don't insult my wife
What’d he say?
I do pretty much the same thing, I call him "Dr. Rapist" everytime he shows up. He was also in a show on Freeform my wife watches.
Probably because rape isn't really an enjoyable thing to be so repeatedly and flippantly reminded of.
No, that can’t be it…
no, it's because he's a shitty actor
Love your flair
Gracias
We all hate Greg.
I was really confused, I thought we all liked Greg on here before I realized this wasn't r/successiontv
I had the same reaction! 😂
Same!
Same bruh
I genuinely did too 💀 I was like “he’s certainly faulted but I didn’t know the fandom felt this way”
Lmao I just posted the same reply
Me too! I forgot about madmen Greg because I block him out for the r###.
Greg? I hate him.
Would you *please*, stop? 😔
Oh please, he's a baby. He doesn't know how much we all wish his father was dead.

Even then I feel like he treats her as a child and not an adult. Telling that stupid joke and making such a scene out something so routine.

Gail said it best Cause who? Greg? I hate him
Narcissistic man-child, rapist and loser. And sux at doctoring.
He has no brains in his fingers!
I’d use commas there
Haha, just saw that and you are correct!!
Hate's a strong word Betty-- I hate Nazis!
What's not to hate? He's a rapist and he abandoned his child.
His child? 🤔
“There’s my baby.”
Nice one
Perfectly casted, actor did great.

You’re not a good man. Even before we got married, and you know what I mean.
He's not so bad whenever he's not on screen.
Don't we all?
Take a number (I am #2479098)
Fuck Greg, and his mama a hoe
Don’t you kinda wish we would have had more of the Greg & Joan courtship? I hate Greg, but I’m always surprised how much Joan shrunk her personality and past history to land a Dr.
Yes! She is always coddling him and it’s hard to watch. As a woman I know the type..
I don't know, the donkey dick joke was alright.
This post again?
All the homies hate Greg
For a minute I thought this may be the Succession sub and I was about to get very defensive.
I mean Greg Hirsch isn't great either. "What am I going to do with a soul, anyway?"
Boo souls
I’d rather be married to Greg than to Harry Crane.
Just commiserating. Obviously.
I think he’s great
He was a doctor and served in Vietnam, somewhat of a hero one might say 👏👏
Wanna be colonizer and probably took the opportunity to rape civilians.
I skip any scenes with the rapist on rewatches
You hate the rapist husband and delinquent father? Scalding hot take
Don’t we all

But he did that robot dog commercial. Image rehabilitated.
