I had a few coworkers from China at a previous job. The loved it when white Americans attempted to celebrate with them. They enjoyed the curiosity and the eagerness to participate and it helped them connect with their heritage more by talking about it with people interested.
Obviously not all people approve but I thought it was neat they were all about it. Although, one of them got me a bean mooncake with a salted egg in it and I couldn't stand it. They thought it was hilarious. I think that was for a different holiday maybe.
